Anonymous B1G players speak on Michigan

Submitted by Wee-Bey Brice on

I know ESPN or another outlet routinely does one of these every preseason but Zach Shaw from 247 surveyed some opposing players about M:

“We won more games last year, we won more games the year before that and we won more games the year before that. That’s all I’m going to say and to be honest I think that’s all I need to say.”

There's a 127% chance this is an MSU guy.

Not all responses lacked respect, though:

“What they did last year proved that they deserved this recognition, being in the top five and whatnot. And when we went against them they beat us, and beat us bad. I’m excited for the game and I’m excited to go back to Ann Arbor, one of my greatest football memories was going to Ann Arbor and beating them. But that’s a very, very different Michigan team than what they have now.”

let them have it. I made my decision when MSU was at thier last zenith, during the Duffy years. I knew all about Bubba, George, Clint, Gene and even their FG kicker from Hawaii.

All it took for me though was one afternoon in November 1969, watching a team in black and white with very strange, but very cool helmets run out onto the field under the leadership of a brash, young coach that used to work for the guy on the opposing sidelines. That man just happened to be leading "the greatest team in the history of cfb." At the end of that game I was a Michigan fan for life. When I got to know its traidition and storied history well....... I just loved this Michigan of ours.

Would love a post-game conference to go something like:

Q:   Jim, why did you feel a need to go for it on 4th & 1 from the MSU 20 with only 11 seconds left?
A:  Because we wouldn't have been able to score 100 if I didn't.

Q:  Was it really necessary to slap Coach Dantonio on the back so hard?  They say you might have broken a rib.
A:  Just one?

It will never stop.  Even if we win the next 20 against MSU, they'll have taken residence in the wins these past few years.  Just a fact of life.  Still, comparing against State sets the sights too low.  Keep the eye on the prize at the end of the season, and take care of business when we head up to East Lansing.

My ideal for this year's MSU game:

Michigan dominates and batters Sparty all game. With about 2 minutes left in the 4th, UM is up 21-0 with the ball inside the five yard line. Harbaugh plays it classy and has the QB take a knee. Then MSU calls timeout! Dantonio doesn't want charity! OK, so the next play, UM goes 5-wide and throws a quick slant to Harris for a TD. MSU gets the ball back, the QB drops back and gets leveled and drops the ball. Lawrence Marshall scoops it up and walks it in. Final score, 35-0.

I wouldn't think a PSU player would say that Michigan "beat us bad" last year considering they had a chance to win still in the second half.

Has to be a Maryland player.

EDIT: Oh yeah, can't be PSU because Michigan beat PSU in 2014 at home (18-13, yay!)

I don't just want to beat MSU this year. I want it to be a blowout. Yes, I know they are still a good football team this year and it should be very close. I want this team to humiliate them on their own turf.

I want them to lose their cool and act like children. I want them to floor slap when down big. I want to go for two on every TD, onside kick every kickoff, and go for every 4th down because we know we can stop them I want to win and win big, but I also want some Sparty No! moments

“They’re a great team, but I think every team here is great. They have talent, but this is the Big Ten, I think everyone can say they have talent. One thing they have is that they’ve been playing together better and for longer than most teams have, so they could start strong. But you’ve got to deal with injuries, different situations and other teams can adjust, so we’ll see.”

Obviously Purdue.  Because, A: They actually think they're good.  B: Their coach thinks they have the 3 best players in the country.

Just like Sparty to bring up past years when asked about the current year.

Zach: "How good is Michigan this year?"

Sparty: "Well, we have been better them since college football began... in 2010. That's all I need to say about that."

Zach: "That didn't really answer my question."

Sparty: "Didn't it though?"

Zach: "No."

Sparty: "Look Zach, you are keeping me from fulfilling my daily regimen of shoulder chips and steroids."

They still can't fill their stadium unless they're playing us or another big opponent that they know everyone else cares more about than MSU.

I love pointing that out. It's hysterical. They've had some good seasons lately and they can't fill their shitty 75K seat stadium. Not even 75K.

We led the nation in attendance during 2008 and 2009.

Over/under has to be something numeric, i.e. "Over/under on how many times someone will guess that the first quote is an MSU player."

First quote is msu, second quote is Maryland.

Also not sure why people are upset about the first quote.  Its true.  The past isn't predictive but until we actually beat osu or msu us being championshipis more of a hypotehtical than a reality.

I just can't get mad at MSU.  Maybe it's because we dominated them 90% of my formative life.  Also I don't see any MSU fans where I live.

Only 1 disrespectful quote from all who were interviewed. The rest seemed to have a lot of respect for the team and expected them to be very experienced this year b

There is no chance that the first quotation is from OSU. They don't play the disrespect card. As much as I hate them (and I do HHHHAAAAATTTTEEEE them), they let their play and the scoreboard do the talking.

State is perma-bitter because they will always be the second most popular school in their own state.
