According to Pete Nakos from On3, Keon Sabb is headed to the portal

I was hoping we wouldn’t lose any depth, especially in the secondary. Moore needs to lock this last spot down quickly.

Not a surprise when both Moore and Paige return next season.  Most of us expected to lose one or both next season.  But with everything happening and these guys returning it's not unexpected.  Does suck cause I thought he'd be a starter for 24 and 25 seasons.

Lol I watched the roundtable podcast yesterday and Webb was talking about how our NIL collectives have done an amazing job at keeping the current roster intact....

This one definitely hurts for depth in the secondary, but I completely understand feeling like you need to go somewhere where you are THE starter to be showcased. I don’t fault him for wanting that, especially if he’s trying to make the 1st round of next year’s draft.

I think the secondary overall will be fine as there are still some young guys with lots of talent that’ll make pushes for the nickel and cb2 spots.

If he is leaving for the money, good riddance.

This new era of college football is going to be extremely annoying. I'm finding it difficult to care about players when I know there is little chance they stick around.

First, I'm not pissed. If your point here is to point out that coaches can leave for career advancement and I/fans don't care then I/fans shouldn't care when a player leaves for the same reasons and I am hypocritical, you are incorrect. Everyone on this board should make decisions to improve their lives, futures, and families without judgement. Keon Sabb is obviously included.

What upsets me is the use of money or advancement, real or promised, to influence player mobility when it is pretty clear the lack of any rules or guidlines allows for tampering with other teams under false pretenses. If money is the only thing keeping someone in a program than I would rather see them move on.

I understand its not how college football works right now. Hence why I am finding it difficult to invest in players. If there was a way to add more structure and rules to player mobility that made it at minimum appear like there was good faith between actors I would feel better about a lot of things.

Hopefully this is just a 'wild west' period as a new economic system finds a place in an archaic institution.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I'm sure there will be more guardrails but money being used to entice players is nothing new and has been going on at schools, including UM, for a long time.  "Tampering" is a word made up because certain people in power don't want to make it easy for people below them to move around; I have largely given up caring about it as an issue but if it matters to you so be it.

There are already a ton of limits on player mobility, from the academic calendar to NCAA limits on transfer windows and conference-level rules about communications between programs.  There can be some more structure but we've already made it way harder for the Alabama player to leave then the Alabama coach, for example.

My issue with your comment was if it was only about money, as if most decisions people make aren't to some healthy degree influenced by finances.  Guys attend UM for access to money both now and in the future via degrees, alumni networks, etc.  Complaining now about money in college sports just unnecessary now, more a realization of something that's been in the ether for decades and not some new phenomenon.

Sucks to lose him, but UM will figure it out.  There's also a chance he comes back if Morgan gets in board and talks to him.  But wish Sabb luck where he lands.

He wants to start, wants to show out for the NFL, and is worthy of a big bag at an Ole Miss or Oregon type NIL program.

Rod Moore's return was a bit surprising, but Sabb would still have seen a ton of playing time next year alongside Moore and Paige - specifically with all the hybrid defenses we play.

Hopefully UM can put together a solid NIL package to keep him, as well as a plan for him to see quality snaps if earned, but I'm not holding my breath.

There are a bunch of programs where he can get paid legit $, be the #1 safety on day 1 - Texas for example -  and he's already gotten the amazing experience and development at UM the past couple years.

Love him to stay, but there may indeed be more upside for him personally at another program.

Ouch.  He has stardom written all over him.  This seems like NIL-related from schools who see his stardom.  Hopefully a staffed defensive staff can pull him back from the portal.
