Thoughts on Fred Jackson returning?
I haven't read anything to suggest Coach Jackson would or would not be returning. But being that he is a Lloyd (the only Lloyd) holdover on the RR staff, I would imagine he is a favorite to return. His recruiting contacts in Texas and Lousiana have always been a plus.
Should Coach Jackson not return, one interesting name to consider would be Tyrone Wheatley who is doing a great job as RB coach at Syracuse. Not sure whether he has developed strong recruiting relationships just yet in his young coaching career. Again, my money is on Jackson coming back.
Fred Jackson's assessment of Brady Hoke? "He's got the speed of Desmond, the size of Branch, and the leadership of Griese (without the Scorekeepers part)." Not bad.

The Hokester telling Fred Jackson he no longer has a job, he's staying. Were going for BrOke!! <----see what I did there.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
He's staying.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
I hope he gets the job. For me it comes down to two things:
1) I think he is a good coach and recruiter. And would love to keep hearing him describe his players.
2) Mostly selfish, but would like my username to be relevant.

And Hokes current rb coach can stay with his DC who took over as head coach
January 12th, 2011 at 3:20 PM ^
But the guy is also his recruiting coordinator. I wouldn't be surprised to see the guy get a new position group, and Jackson be retained.

Not worth another thread, I wouldn't mind seeing Loeffler brought in as QB coach and OC in waiting (Borges is no kid).

"Joke"?
Freudian slip of the keys?
January 12th, 2011 at 3:37 PM ^
We need to get behind our program!
January 12th, 2011 at 3:48 PM ^
The "h" key is right next to the "j" so it might just be a typo.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
I'm guessing (from some of your previous comments) that "Joke" was a harmless typo. But funny nonetheless.
I agree with the Leoffler pick completely though. Dynamite hire. I also think Hoke might be bringing his brother, Jon. Who is the current DB coach of the Bears. Yes, please!
EDIT: Jon Hoke speculation isn't just wishful thinking, Chengelis asked him about it:

I like the kind of nepotism that nets you coaches that oversee a rugged, physical NFL unit. Definitely cool with that, and suffering from acute Hokemania right now.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:28 PM ^
Most of my day has been 503 errors, so I've been on the mobile, mostly. So it's 50-50 on auto-correct for "Joke" or "Hike". I think I've made it clear I'm not making fun of HOKE. But my apologies anyway for crappy typing and proofreading.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
I think that was his WR coach.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
His RC was his RB coach at SDSU but WR coach at BSU. I'm hoping to keep Jackson and bring back Loeffler and Campbell. That would leave OL. If he can't do that then I'm hoping he can just be a special teams coach.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:56 PM ^
How many assitants are we allowed to have again? Is the recruiting coordinator different from what Singletary did?
January 12th, 2011 at 4:01 PM ^
9 assistants. Usually it's 4 on defense and 5 on offense. I'm suggesting they take one from the offense and assign him to special teams. I don't know what you are talking about with your second question.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
I think his name was Singletary. I'm not sure if he was on the football staff or if he worked with the AD. I just wanted to know if one of the coaches would fill his role.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
"I'm probably the greatest RB Coach of all-time. If I were to compare myself to a player I would say I'm the Chris Perry of RB Coaches, but faster."

I don't see Fred Jackson going anywhere. He has been apart of this program as long as anyone as far as I am concerned. He does a nice job coaching the young RBs and will continue to do it.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:02 PM ^
I see Fred Jackson at nearly every Michigan sporting event I attend. Volleyball, soccer, water polo, basketball... The man is everywhere and seems to have a handshake and greeting for all.
He's a Michigan treasure!
January 12th, 2011 at 4:09 PM ^
Actually, Jackson's almost never been apart from the program over the past two decades.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:25 PM ^
I'd like to see him stay. He knows the current players better than the new coaches. It'd be good to have atleast some overlap for the players sake.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:27 PM ^
I don't have a link, but I read somewhere yesterday that Fred Jackson's firing was symbolic, and they never had any real intentions of getting rid of him.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:34 PM ^
Bring him back. He's a great coach and good with recruiting.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:37 PM ^
He's like teflon, only stuff slides off him faster.
January 12th, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
I'd be shocked if it wasn't. He's been here for so long and is such a part of the university that it would be a mistake to get rid of him in my opinion.

Change the banner back or to something more positive now, please.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:38 PM ^
Once is enough. If you can't get your point across with a simple post, try yelling, maybe that will work.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:13 PM ^
PLEASE CHANGE THE BANNER.
But, it all seriousness, this is a widely read blog and probably should be changed. I'm sure Brian has been busy with all this CC stuff.

Don't be a jackass.

please change the banner back.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:33 PM ^
i concurr on ty wheatley. i bet he's a strong recruiter. if possible, it'd be good to have him and jackson onboard.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
Without his hyperbole, I'm like the 2006 team, only without NFL-caliber talent on both sides of the ball. Or the 2008 team.
I love me some Fred Jackson Quotes
January 12th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
.....much as the next UM fan, and if he's rehired then I'm good with that. What I'd like, though, is to get Tyrone Wheatley as RB coach and rehire FJ into the AD as the spokesperson for the football team.
As for those saying Jackson is a Carr holdover, it is true that he coached on Carr's teams but he was hired by Moeller and Schembechler.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
He is back, along with others from the LC era now unemployed. SC at Florida, for example. Ah, this attempt to recreate the LC era will be very interesting.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:06 PM ^
As long as Mike DeBord and Andy Moeller are not on this staff, I've got zero problem with Hoke hiring back Carr's guys. Urban Meyer, Kirk Ferentz and some NFL head coaches snagged some of them three years ago. I definitely want to get Erik Campbell back from Iowa.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
Some people think that just because someone is related(football-wise) to Carr that it reeks of cronyism and that Carr is some kind of master planner behind the scenes. Personally, there are many ex-UM coaches that coached under Carr that I'd love to have back, Loeffler being one of them. Vance Bedford and Teryl Austin are two others that would be great to have back.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
In coaches.
January 12th, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
I really hope Fred Jackson is on our staff next year.
January 12th, 2011 at 4:11 PM ^
Randy Shannon for DC anyone?
January 12th, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
I'd love to see Shannon as our DC. Good record as a DC and always good to keep those Florida ties. That being said if Heater or Austin is the choice, I won't complain. Loeffler? Yes, please. Let's make it quick though to make a final push in recruiting!
January 12th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
Just don't use something cute like:
"Hoke is a many dreaded thing"...
I love the "Hope" version of the above...
January 12th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
We need some youth on this staff. If it comes in other places, great. If not, me and Erykah Badu think we better Call Tyrone.
January 12th, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
...and well said!
