For All Fans Who Want A New OC, Who Did You Have In Mind?
I keep seeing comments about how Harbaugh needs to go out and find the next Don Brown but for offense. It is my opinion that Don Browns don't grow on trees and are pretty hard to come by. So, is there a specific coach that any of you have in mind or are you all just talking out of your asses?

TCU's OC is really good at what he does and revived Kenny Hill's career.
Sonny Cumbie. Only 36 years old so he can adapt and learn.
Drawback would be if Kingsbury get fired from Texas Tech b/c they'll probably look to hire Cumbie since he's also an alum there.

I'm not refusing to hold Harbuagh to his $9M/yr standard (part of that is NFL value), but his situation at Michigan has been unique. He's only had 2 full recruiting cycles, and this year in particular was always going to be a struggle considering how Hoke left the team structured.
Harbaugh needs to shake up his offensive staff, we all know that, but these complaints about not having a quarterback by Year 3 are meh. O'Korn, who is the backup, looked competant, despite our pass protection and receivers letting us down.
The main takeaways from Saturday night are 1) Penn State is legit 2) the answer to the spread (zone) offense is zone defense, or at least more of it - Don Brown, the dude that he is, got exposed taking key match-ups for granted 3) if one guy needs to be fired, it's Pep Hamilton. The routes he draws up take too long to develop, and the pass plays he convinces Harbaugh to green light are just wrong half the time.
We'll be good next year. Save the season by beating Ohio State.

My guess is that he will not. I'm not sure why I say that other than that it would probably help and the Universe apparently wants Michigan to suffer... Weird, but I would bet the house that everyone is back next year coaching their same positions. Hope I'm wrong...

Come on man, Penn State's offense was in this exact position just two years ago and they went out and got a top notch OC. It's not unreasonable to expect Harbaugh to find someone just as capable.

Particularly when the passing game looked quite competent under Fisch. It was a mistake letting him leave.

I really want to agree with this. My only reservation is that I don't know what goes on inside the fort and if it was more the fact that we lost 2 senior receivers who were able to get separation and are now in the NFL.
Perhaps it was a bit of both - Jedd leaving AND losing Darboh and Chesson. Either way, it has been abysmal this year. If Tarik stayed healthy I dont think it would have been this bad.
I guess when your QB breaks his neck and your best receiver breaks his foot this is what you get.

love reid's schemes, but why leave the chiefs? especially if they go deep in playoffs, this guy will be on NFL radars

Jedd Fisch, Mike Yurcich, anyone whose most recent job wasn't working for the browns?

by Franklin from Fordham. Not only is Fordham FCS, but it is not a very good FCS program.
It worked out for Penn State. But Moorehead was not really on everyone's top wish list for OC jobs in 2015. An outside of the box hire. Risky at the time.

I got to think having the dynamic duo of Barkley and McSorley in their 3rd seasons is a huge part of the success. How good is Moorehead once these two leave?

Moorehead to those who follow coaching and XandO's is a highly acclaimed OC. There is a great article about his time at Fordham. He will be a top OC for a while, probably a head coach soon. But Moorehead would be my choice. This game was lost by coaching more than anything, he came out and put on a coaching clinic Sat night vs Don Brown.

I don't think Moorehead would move laterally from PSU to UM. Are there any other names in the lower division ranks that having been getting attention in coaching circles as potential OCs at the next level? (Chip Kelly was New Hampshire's OC for a number of years before making the leap to Oregon.)

X's and O's vs. Jimmy's and Joe's.

The development of McSorley and Barkley should be a check in Moorhead's favor, not against him.

UCLA's offense has shown real flexibility and life. And the fact that Fisch has coached all over the country in different stops could work to his benefit, since he's not tied to one particular region the way some coordinators or G5 coaches might.

Doesn't Matter, no top OC would take the job in its current format. A real OC wants total control and who can blame them.

solid Michigan Man with Ohio roots (good for recruiting) and of course..close pals with Tom Brady doesn't hurt

Uh, wow.
October 23rd, 2017 at 11:56 AM ^
Yeah we should totally hire him. Maybe if we do, then we could convince Brady to come back and give inspirational speeches to the team! Oh, he already does that? Nevermind.
October 23rd, 2017 at 12:00 PM ^
Brady's pregame speeches plus Jon Falk returning to his duties as equipment manager.. how could we ever lose again with Loeffler?
October 23rd, 2017 at 12:09 PM ^
Wow I just came to sarcastically suggest Loeffler and was going to check if someone had already done so. Didn't expect to find a serious call for arguably FBS' worse performing coordinator.
