high upside, not even remotely close to being ready to start right away.
Sounds like he could be great, but sounds more like a redshirt on a high level team than a starter.

Don't think so, that one always felt like he was going elsewhere and the "extras" were blatant. In this case, it seems like he wanted to play in the SEC and had an awesome visit to Georgia and Georgia has always been one the cleaner SEC programs. There're a lot of reasons for a player to pick Georgia that don't involve shady shit, I hate that we keep breaking that out as an excuse, when it just may be that a high school kid likes another school better.

We can go ahead and post the Harris to Bama link now right? Remember when we thought we'd have 9 OL committed and thought our lower ranked guys were going to give us depth.......yeah.

Wow. I guess umbig11 had to be wrong about something eventually.

And how does our O-line gonna look now? I know this is a big disappointment, but what does Harbaugh and Co do from here?

Jim has time to work his magic. At least he knows who the competition is now.

Losing Wilson doesn't change as much as you might think. We're still going to get Ruiz and push hard for Filiaga (who we migtht already lead for right now). The only thing that's different is that now there's probably a spot for Makhi Becton, who Sam Webb has said is higher on M's OL board than rankings would indicate (Sam insinuated that Becton was more of a priority than Banks, for instance). It's a bummer, but things could be much worse.

Seriously.. at least get the right breed of dog for an announcement. No bulldogs owners around the school? A pug is as similar to a bulldog as a chihuahua.
Yes, sorry. Somewhat annoyed right now.

Why? Commitmas is still on. Ruiz and Jordan Anthony are coming next week and Drew Singleton is supposed to be committing soon as well. Not to mention Najee....

December 16th, 2016 at 2:26 PM ^
Isaiah Wilson choosing Georgia has no impact on the (probable) silent commitments of Ruiz, Anthony, and Singleton. You don't have to reject all other information just because one recruit picked another school.

Except for the fact that he CONSTANTLY chimes in with recruiting tidbits pertaining to upcoming commits... He put his balls out there several times saying this kid was BLUE. Just look at his recent post history. He very will could be tied to the team, but his tail is now tucked deep in his legs with this recent announcement. Dude should be embarrased as fuck!
December 16th, 2016 at 4:52 PM ^
I doubt it. Maybe the coaches were as surprised as we were today. He has provided a lot of very good and accurate info and I hope he continues to do so.
Mike Weber went to bed last year, with coaches and everyone else thinking Michigan was the pick. Then it changed. Crootin' man!

Wasn't it UMBig who implied that Peppers was going to be suspended for at least the 1st half of the Hawaii game? This is not the first time he's been wrong.

December 16th, 2016 at 2:18 PM ^
How are we so sure he was wrong? Maybe he, along with all of michigan's coaches, expected Wilson to be blue and he surprised them all? umbig11 has been right too often to let a couple of recruiting misses make him uncredible.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
December 16th, 2016 at 12:11 PM ^
am not really suprised, and I don't consider this to be too big a deal. Would have like to have got him here because I think the kid had a very high upside, but he could just as easily be a bust imo. If one of his high school coaches gets hired at Georgia anytime soon than we will know the rumors were true.
Not to be a debbie downer but if they were able to pull Wilson, they probably gonna get Soloman as well.

Hmm. Alabama insiders said that the kid wanted to play in the SEC. Guess he wanted early/lasting playing time. Knew he could start here immediately, but would be replaced by Newsome soon too.
December 16th, 2016 at 12:11 PM ^
and let's just move on without the snide comments; only makes us look bad.
December 16th, 2016 at 12:37 PM ^
Good luck to him. If he wanted the SEC, he has a good school there, and I wish him all the best. imagine he was your neighbor's son, not a prospective talent we need. He's an 18 YO kid trying to make the best decision under a ton of pressure. All the ballz in the world are just guesses. Yes, I'd love for him to have come here. Now I simply hope he has a healthy, succesful career and *gets his degree* out of UGA.
December 16th, 2016 at 12:11 PM ^
? Filiaga, or did he have his own lane already?
December 16th, 2016 at 12:11 PM ^
Why did he move his announcement date up?
December 16th, 2016 at 12:11 PM ^
Doesn't anyone want to play tackle for us next year? Not this kid, not Leatherwood...
Watch for the late offers flyin' out in the next 'crootin update.
December 16th, 2016 at 1:55 PM ^
Honigford, Steuber, Herbert, and Hall in this years class would probably be a good start as far as an answer to that question.
Filiaga and Becton are still on the board and I have a feeling the coaches are going to watch some extra OL film in January to see if they can find any late bloomers.
December 16th, 2016 at 1:04 PM ^
Sucks when we were out front so long, but...'crootin'. That's just the way it goes sometimes. I'm happy that DPJ and Tarik Black choose the Michigan Difference.

December 16th, 2016 at 12:12 PM ^
It seems like we were banking on Wilson to fill the void potentially lost by Newsome not being ready next year. Do we think any of the current verbal commits have the ability to contribute early or are there other elite tackles left on the board we have a chance with?
December 16th, 2016 at 12:23 PM ^
It sounds like the OT commits we have right now are more projects than instant impact type guys. People who are more knowledgable than I am about these things have said that Chuck Filiaga is the type of prospect who would be in the mix for playing time from day one, though. I'd imagine he'll be the highest priority left on the OL board now. We're getting Ruiz on Monday and seem to be in good position for Mekhi Becton and TJ Slaton (who is an interior player, but still) too. Losing Wilson hurts but we'll be fine. Still in great shape to land 6 or 7 solid prospects.
December 16th, 2016 at 12:31 PM ^
Filiaga is left, but he isn't a plug and play as a frosh. As for the current commits? None of them have the ability to play for 2 years! at least, but thats just my opinion. OL is a MAJOR concern from here on out with these misses. Filiaga and Ruiz are musts
December 16th, 2016 at 12:43 PM ^
Wilson wouldn't have been a plug and play as a frosh either. Not sure why not landing Wilson makes you any more concerned about OL depth next year than you would've been if we'd gotten him.
December 16th, 2016 at 1:30 PM ^
December 16th, 2016 at 2:24 PM ^
....who wouldn't have been starting next year. If you're just talking about OL impact next season, you want Chuck Filiaga more than Isaiah Wilson (who would've either redshirted or gotten mop up time next year) anyway.

I assumed a 5-star guy that looks like him and has his size (6'7" 354 lbs) has a pretty good chance at getting playing time as a true freshman. Granted, looks don't mean everything, but he's pretty physicall mature and looks like a big strong kid and I generally get the consensus that what keeps kids from playing early on the line is size and strength. If he's a 5-star and already has the size and strength, given our lack of depth, I'd assume he's got a good chance at early playing time.
Our tackle depth now is Newsome (if healthy), Dawson, Bredeson, Onwenu, JBB, Ulizio, and the true freshman. Judging by the fact that Bredeson and JBB are the only ones that have seen any significant snaps, Bredenson got moved to the interior, JBB got pulled after not faring so well, Dawson is a senior, and we haven't seen much of Ulizio, and Newsome might not be ready, it seems like the tackle positions are wide open for a talented 5-star true freshman that is already college ready in terms of size and strength.
December 16th, 2016 at 1:29 PM ^
aren't plug and play as true freshmen. There are exceptions but usually if you're playing a true freshmen on your oline it speaks more to the lack of depth in the program at that position than anything else.. and usually that position is not a strength on your oline.
