Stroud is one guy who I got totally wrong. That was mostly due to his affect wrt the Michigan games, his lack of mobility, and his inability to take a punch
Turns out that much of that may have been due to Ryan Day and not Stroud at all.
Given the recent history with Burrow, JJ, and Stroud I am thinking that Day's reputation with QB is a little exaggerated. Has he gotten any of them right? I will LOL when McCord is a 1st round pick in '25.
Given that fewer players have left/decommitted than the coolerpoopers and couch burners, and given that most of the coaching staff returns, I feel "gutted" might be a bit hyperbolic
While his annual flirtation with the NFL may have impacted the trail and portal, it hasn't impacted the results.
I'd rather a coach who is always testing himself and considering greater challenges. The alternative is Matt Campbell or James Franklin or Coach Third Base
I'm in a hard place right now. Not as hard as anything you endured, but hard enough
It is redemptive to be reminded that there are better days ahead and people who I love and who love me to share them with.

forget Michigan and think of him: coming back he'd be Heisman frontrunner and likely QB1--the way Caleb Williams was.
Williams would have gone last year and been the first pick in the draft if eligible
To me this is like CBB. Once a guy is a first round pick there isn't much value to improving his draft stock. There are still a lot of reasons a guy might return but in J.J.'s case he had no goals left to meet - and the very real chance that even avoiding injury his draft position wouldn't improve enough to justify returning just for financial reasons
The Stalions on the CMU sideline thing is really bizarre
Unless I've missed something (not unlikely) it's been radio silence since the picture dropped, other than McElwain saying that Stalions was not issued a sidelines pass
It seems that by about five minutes after that picture dropped they should have known exactly who that is. Oh that guy? It's Bob. He's a second year intern.
Haller was "afraid" that MSUs players would get hurt if UM knew Sparty's signs
Wouldn't they be less likely to get hurt? Guys get hurt when people fly at them at weird angles, not when they are standing right in the hole where they are trying to run?
people inside the Michigan program think he’s now ready to take a huge step forward as an impact guy. He’s up to 307 pounds and is more powerful and explosive than ever. He did 32 reps of 225 on the bench and did 760 pounds on the combo twist. Only last year’s top Freak, Mazi Smith, some 30 pounds heavier, did more slinging around 800 pounds.
Jenkins recently did a Turkish get-up with a 170-pound dumbbell — the heaviest Herbert has ever witnessed. Jenkins does pull-ups with a 100-pound weight strapped to his waist. He also moves incredibly well for being a 300-plus pounder, running a 7.16 3-cone, a 4.33 shuttle, broad-jumping 9-8 and vertical-jumping 34 inches.
Jenkins’ shuttle and 3-cone times are both almost two-tenths of a second faster than the quickest interior defensive lineman did at this year’s NFL combine. His broad jump would be tied for the best. His vertical jump would be second-best, and only Smith topped his number on the bench press.
12. Amorion Walker
he’s made an eye-catching transformation since arriving at Michigan at 156 pounds. Now, he’s 6-3 1/4, 180 pounds and has crazy athleticism. This offseason he blazed through the 3-cone drill in a stunning 6.10 seconds.
“It’s the fastest time I have ever seen and likely the fastest I will ever see,” strength coach Ben Herbert says. That time is almost a full half-second faster than the fastest time recorded at the combine last spring (Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s 6.57). It would also blow away the combine record of 6.42 set 12 years ago by Oregon’s Jeff Maehl.
Walker’s 3.89 shuttle would’ve been tops at the combine as well. Smith-Njigba ran a 3.93 with Brandin Cooks’ 3.81 in 2014 the record. And there’s more: Walker vertical-jumped 42 1/2 inches. He did 11-4 in the broad jump and he clocked a 4.34 40, and he did it out of a two-point stance.
20. Sonny Styles
38. Zane Durant
50. Alex Orjii
The 6-3, 237-pound sophomore quarterback ranks No. 1 on the team in its cumulative KPI score, which is made up of 48 Key Performance Indicators they use to track frame analysis: flexibility/mobility; strength/power; and agility/speed.

Penn State with a bunch of guys, maybe the most in the conference
I don't think it's an OSU thing, I think it's an elite college program thing.
Look at how rare it is for top NFL QBs to come from top college programs. Hurts and Lawrence and Watson and Brady? Yes. Rodgers, Mahomes, Burrows, Wilson, Newton, Luck, Jackson, the Mannings, Roethlisberger, Newton, Brees all from more moderate programs*
I feel it comes down to how much they are challenged in college. Stroud had Wilson, Olave, JSN then MHJ and Egbuka. Waves of elite receivers who were always open. Contrast this with players who didn't have those weapons and had to process better, find targets better, outthink their opposition more
Look at how much Fields - an eminently talented athlete - is struggling as a passer in the NFL
*some of these guys made their programs great (Burrows,Newton) only to fall back a bit after they left. Watson falls into this category
** running quarterbacks from top programs (Watson, Hurts) tend to do better. required to process more than pocket guys who can go to their first option
There's really no such thing as a blue blood any more
I set my bar for that standard pretty high, elite success across multiple generations of coaches on programs that recruit themselves. Can't think of any other then UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA, Indiana - and Indiana pretty shaky.
These programs have built in advantages, but those advantages have narrowed significantly. Can't just rely on recruiting and stacking classes. Coaching, cohesion, and development play a much bigger role. It is the schools who do this well and are flexible enough to adapt to a fluid environment that will succeed in the near future.
One party paying another party to do a thing does not define capitalism. This exists in every economic system.
This isn't an economic system at all. As discussed above there is no economic or profit motive. The motivations are driven for purposes of social status. This is a patronage system, not unlike the wealthy retaining artists and musicians for amusement and prestige.

After using this tool and Seth's and Ken Pom (redundant) and Vegas odds I have all Big 10 teams losing in the first two rounds
Then took another look at MSU and flipped them to a loss tomorrow because that will be more entertaining and my expert analysis is that whichever team plays better between them and USC will win.

I've never heard a broadcaster more miserable after a victory than Costa postgame after the Lions beat the Chargers
Team guys have to walk a fine line of enthusiastic criticism. Jansen and TJ Lang are excellent at this. Costa? no.
I'm disappointed he will be on am drivetime. To me a somewhat more talented Brian Chapman

Oh yeah, and national championship thingy.
Harbaugh is how they got all of those coaches in the first place. Best coaching staff in CFB.
Just setting up the Ravens pipeline alone should be enough to give Harbaugh a lifetime pass.

It was cold and windy in Baltimore. Totally unfair to Stroud
