Game just ended.

Naz Hillmon is glorious. Thank you Ms. Hillmon for all the wins, all the Fun!

Love this TEAM. (reminds me of the softball Teams, together, connected, hard working, talented and superbly coached.)

Go Blue!

Great... and yes, a really…

Great... and yes, a really interesting decision. Along with the reasons cited by BlueinRock... the only thing I could think of is that maybe, if he has another stellar year, even if not quite at this level, he can leverage consistency and get drafted.

I don't know about NFL $, so this may be stupid, but say he gets drafted and makes even $200K more a year than the minimum for at least 2 years. So, he is getting paid for this year plus... his regional NIL stock is fully thru the goalposts of life brah.

Hard working, football-knowing-&-teaching studs. Appreciate Thee.

And as long as I'm at it... Special Props to All the DTs and to Vincent Gray for his titanium mental toughness... kept showing up, kept working and delivered! Most courageous Mr. Gray... Happy for you and all of your teammates...

Dumb Fantasy—Fantasy…

Dumb Fantasy—Fantasy—Reasonable Fantasy  ?

JJ gets 3 plays at some point. Max protect. 2-man route, vary formations, go routes 3X straight (rotate receivers, hurry up, have the 4 fastest in simultaneously so WI can't sub corners?).

If JJ goes 1 for 3, we gain 40+ yards.

Or, do that with McNamara?

Given the likely futility of the run, let's have some fun!

Might this help?

QBs (&…

Might this help?

QBs (& others) get VR headsets and in the off-season they rep the read/s over & over under myriad defensive scenarios to improve their reflexes / muscle memory. One could even adjust the speeds of the defenses as they improve. Augments that cliche, the game slows down; and they get instant feedback.

Welcome Jayden Denegal!

Welcome Jayden Denegal!

This QB is talented, smart, hard working, a winner... and as busy as he is, he's getting down and dirty for tortoise housing upgrades. Hey, even that he has a tortoise... I've found that generally, people engaged with animals people are high quality people. (Interviewed a few prominent ones.)

Major Props All Around Jayden. Go get 'em man...

Great photo of Coach Hutchins... love the clarity and engagement in the eyes, & the facial lines are clean, lined by a life of engagement and integrity.

At no point has anyone in media launched a fusty jeremiad about the entitlement and corruption of today's cheerleaders.

Beauteous man. $20 bucks for "fusty jeremiad" ...  but the whole damn sentence is great.

Dig Mr. Brooks... seems quite intelligent, can see his evident humanity and his toughness.

Almost any of these guys would be fun to hang with for an evening, in part, because they're not civilians, eg the dues they've paid, the endless hard work, the various pressures they've faced and the media/social media that have to put up with... schmucks like me writing shit like this...

Looking forward to watching Mr. Smith and Mr. Jackson as well.
Think this team will have genuine grit per its experienced elders and the excellent coaching.

Bigger picture, complexity increases are a, if not the, fundamental cause of the collapse of civilizations.
Exponential gains in complexity are the dominant, emergent phenomenon of our era.

Further, collapse is when-not-if physics.

Apocalypse Dot Drop …

Apocalypse Dot Drop (incomplete)

The homicide detective said, "Before you connect the dots, you gotta collect the dots."

Fundamental Dot:

“The most fundamental phenomenon of the universe is relationship." Jonas Salk — Anatomy of Reality

Fundamental Dot:

"The story of human intelligence starts with a universe that's capable of encoding information." Ray Kurzweil — How To Create A Mind

What do Covid-19—genes—money—language—racism—etiquette—software & religion have in common?
They're all code for relationship interface.

Fundamental Dot:

“Initial conditions rule in complex systems.” Stewart Brand

Code is Relationship Infrastructure, an initial relationship condition in bio, cultural & tech networks.

“Code is a constructor.” David Deutsch

Code builds turtles man, lots of variation. Code builds nations—novels—religions—apps.

Code & Complexity — Rule of Thumb

“The rule of thumb is that the complexity of the organism has to match the complexity of the environment at all scales in order to increase the likelihood of survival.”  physicist, complexity scientist Yaneer Bar-Yam — Making Things Work

Code & Complexity — The New Natural Selection Tests
Natural selection tests have become more complex for many species. Genetic codes remain on the exam; human culture codes have been added — e.g., elephant & dolphin survival are no longer merely a function of their biological genomes, but also a function of the human cultural genome, that is, of moral, legal, monetary & other cultural coding structures.

Code & Complexity — A Fundamental Relationship Consequence

Complexity increases weaken the efficacy of code, whether the code is genetic—language—moral—religious—legal—monetary—software, etc.

The Dom Phenom of Our Era

Exponentially accelerating complexity — the dominant phenomenon our era — is an emergent phenomenon. Briefly, add more than 6 billion people since 1900, and simultaneously, give billions of people an unprecedented aggregate-reach by way of access to exponentially more powerful technology — technology born of another emergent phenomenon, exponentially accruing knowledge.

eg

Never-Been Relationship: Human Knowledge doubles roughly every year…

Never-Been Relationship: The aggregate & accruing Reach of our numbers & tech.

ie

We're the dominant drivers of evolution & selection, short term.

Short term indeed...

Like politicians could possibly encode the global, exponential dynamics, the relationship-values, the selection consequences, of that unprecedented-relationships beatdown.

"Natural selection is a brutal form of learning." Donald Hoffman 2020

Collapse is an episodic relationship pattern of continuously dynamic (non-equilibrium) systems — when-not-if physics called self-organized criticality.

We've poured accelerants on those physics for centuries.

“You're a bitter man," said Candide. "That's because I've lived," said Martin.  ....

"If we do not exert the right of eating our neighbor, it is because we have other means of making good cheer."  Voltaire — Candide 1759

“This future speaks even now in a hundred signs, this destiny announces itself everywhere; for this music of the future all ears are cocked even now. For some time now, our European culture has been moving towards a catastrophe, with a tortured tension that is growing from decade to decade: restlessly, violently, headlong, like a river that wants to reach the end, that no longer reflects, that is afraid to reflect.”  Nietzsche 1901, sensing WW1; &

"Two fellows die of tetanus. Their skin turns pale, their limbs stiffen, at last only their eyes live—stubbornly. Many of the wounded have their shattered limbs hanging free in the air from a gallows; underneath the wound a basin is placed into which the pus drips. …

A man cannot realize that above such shattered bodies there are still human faces in which life does its daily round. And this is only one hospital, one single station; there are hundreds of thousands in Germany, hundreds of thousands in France, hundreds of thousands in Russia. How senseless is everything that can ever be written, done, or thought, when such things are possible. It must all be lies and of no account when the culture of a thousand years could not prevent this steam of blood being poured out, these torture-chambers in their hundreds of thousands. A hospital alone shows what war is.” Erich Remarque – All Quiet on the Western Front 1929

Aceness, great Naz photo.

Aceness, great Naz photo.

Dig that you're giving the women's team some love. They deserve it.

Enjoy watching 'em. (Softball too.)

"It may not have been the…

"It may not have been the most beautiful basketball game."

Ace brah, that be a tad understated...

That game put the ug in ugly.

I try to never criticize college players. They're busting their ass; they're young; every one of 'em could kick my ass all over the lot in multiple domains; additional reasons; & this counts too: it's the goddamn apocalypse.

Still, until starvation, genocide, etc., set in: I beseech thee Mr. Wagner, please stop overreacting to every foul called on you. It's unbecoming.

Michigan Wins: Fools Gold?

Michigan Wins: Fools Gold?

Complication: Self-deception is a fundamental, selected app for relationship interface.

eg: People think they're about 20% better looking than they are.

“When people are shown a full array of photos of themselves, from 50 percent more attractive to 50 percent less attractive, they choose the 20 percent better-looking photo as the one they like the most and think they most resemble. This is an important general result: self deception is bounded—30 percent better looking is implausible, while 10 percent better fails to gain the full advantage.” Robert Trivers — The Folly of Fools — (Trivers: Stud biologist)

Well Done Gentlemen!

Well Done Gentlemen!

Especially enjoyed the history lesson.

I too want it to be a beat down, but also suspect (fear) it won't be.

I've noticed that my over reactions to mistakes by MI are more ridiculous than ever — even when watching the women's basketball team, an undertaking I genuinely enjoy. I submit that this is largely due to the stress of reality, you know, this being my first apocalypse and all.

Veritable Wowness...

Just…

Veritable Wowness...

Just watched my 1st Coach Howard press-con. Dude reeks Stud.

Strong sensing of Strength, coded thusly: Mr. Juwan Howard is an elite human being.

It may take awhile to build a champion, but I have no doubt the players will run through walls for the Man.

Looking forward...

Fine Work Mr. Anbender —…

Fine Work Mr. Anbender — appreciate Thee.

Read today: Coach "Howard said that sophomore guard David DeJulius sticks out as the player who has made the most strides since the coach's arrival." That's encouraging.

Also encouraging & interesting are Eli Brooks defensive stats.

Given the makeup of this team, and this is not a criticism, just an observation, think Coach Howard can accentuate the grit of the many high-character studs on this team. You can't be as successful as John Beilein without toughness. Still, intuitively, seems like Coach Howard will be able to pull a bit more from that domain.

As Bill Hicks said, if you…

As Bill Hicks said, if you don't get it, "just relax and enjoy your hair."

Yes Brian.

And more…

Yes Brian.

And more fundamentally, i.e., evolutionarily, i.e., taking one's pattern recognition from the 4.54 billion year sample space of evolution: World culture's dominant app—people deploying monetary code—can't generate selectable relationships in-&-across Geo Eco Bio Cultural & Tech networks, and across Time.

Exhibits A & B: Sky; Ocean.

The app's information-processing competence lacks Reach Speed Accuracy Power & is often used to throttle Creativity... all of which are fundamental info-processing criteria for passing selection tests.

Verily, if your culture's relationships with the Sky & Ocean are deadly, your cultural genome sucks.

Oh my Brothers-of-the-Brian,…

Oh my Brothers-of-the-Brian, the no-play-bowl problem is yet another symptom of a far more fundamental problem.

World culture's dominant app—humans deploying monetary code—can't process complex relationship-value information in-and-across Geo Eco Bio Cultural & Tech networks with sufficient Reach Speed Accuracy and Power. (Exhibits A & B: Sky; Ocean.) Further, the app is often used to throttle Creativity. And tragically, all of those information processing criteria are fundamental to passing multilevel selection tests.

This accruing code-to-environs mismatch is part of the Emergent Complexity Apocalypse.

But alas, emotionally, I love MI sports ... hormonally? groomed as a young child, I'm fully attached & want them to continue.

Divine Workmanship by the Blue Team.

The mental and physical domination, but esp the mental ... I don't remember seeing that in such high resolution in a game.

Wow man.

Loved DPJ's Bunyan-esque TD pose & the fine aesthetics-of-attitude he added.

Well-toned Savvy.

Reminded my of Jordan Poole ... obviously, they should do a TV show together. (or at least a podcast)

Kilgore, you're killing me…

Kilgore, you're killing me brah ... McKeon is on the line of scrimmage, split end, as noted.

Btw, prolly do, but wonder if you know the stud writer that Kilgore Trout was named after?

Okay, here's my not wholly…

Okay, here's my not wholly thought out speculation: Big Spread.

Put McKeon, Gentry & Eubanks out to one side. Patterson in shotgun; Evans or Higdon in backfield.

Maybe put McKeon as split end; Gentry & Eubanks off the line of scrimmage.

If you get the ball to Gentry or Eubanks, they can pick up 3rd and 2.

Gentry could throw to a releasing McKeon, Evans, Eubanks, or even Patterson ... even if a short pass, could have space to make it a big chunk play.

Or: One of them can go in motion and set up as a blocker for Evans or Patterson.

You could also get the ball to Gentry or any of the big tight ends and they cut towards the middle of the field and pitch to Evans/Higdon swinging wide; or while Evans is swinging wide, Patterson is swinging wide, but not as wide as Evans and Gentry flips the ball to Patterson who cuts right behind him like he's a pulling guard of sorts.

The defense is unlikely to have 3 people who can defend 3 guys that big all on the field at once, and there's also a blocking size advantage. With motion, there are lots of quick and significant formation changes where again, size and/or speed mismatches with specific linebackers, corners, safeties, can be generated.

Major Props Brian; again. As…

Major Props Brian; again. As others have said: well argued.

Clutch Hutch

Ms. Hutchins is extraordinary.

I love watching these young women play. They're tough, talented and disciplined; they consistently exhibit class, and they seem to have genuine fun. I started watching a few years ago and have recently started watching Michigan women's basketball. Go Blue.

Radiation

The fully radiant joy and the clean lines in the face of Ms. Way in her brief comments at the close of the field hockey clip ... made me tear up. In recognition of her glorious Yes to life, the human spirit, exuberant in youth.

You can't fake that ...

And in recognition of the circumstances of our era, the threat to youth ... of course, threats are always there, just not at this scale.

Big Pic: Human Run Over Soon

Dominant phenom of our era: Exponentially Accelerating Complexity, which includes exponentially accruing knowledge.

Human reach, power, numbers: Unprecedented.

We've generated novel & alien environs that we can't handle; i.e., we can't process the onslaught of new relationship information.

Exhibits: A: Sky. B: Ocean.

Code & Complexity

Code is fundamental, physics generated and physics efficacious, Relationship Infrastructure in bio, cultural & tech networks: genetic, language, math, moral, religious, legal, monetary, etiquette, software, etc.

“The story of human intelligence starts with a universe that is capable of encoding information.” — Ray Kurzweil -- "How To Create A Mind"

The new relationships sired by exponentially accelerating complexity weaken the efficacy of code attuned to older, less complex variations of network relationships.

Humans aren’t sufficiently coded — biologically, culturally or technologically — to pass natural selection tests in environs undergoing exponentially accelerating complexity for X number of years.

Year X approaches.

Enjoy your cornflakes whilst you got 'em.

Class Act

Major Props to Mr. Irvin.

From this distance, 4 years, no drama, tough, contributed at various positions, grew as a player both on offense and defense, good teammate, won some games.

All around I'd say a class act. Wish him all the best.

Old & in the way ...

Can someone tell me the name of the first song, or the artist/s name in the Hawkins' highlights?

Thanks ...

Chant-ations

This guy looks ferocious.

Stadium chant: 1/2 yells MMM, other half responds Bosse.

(Thought of that all by myself ...)

Mr. Donnal

Don't want to be harsh on a collegiate player. They bust their ass to perform, are not civilians in carrying that heavy load plus classes, but man, I wish Mr. Donnal could generate some confidence. Maybe if he just says F it, I'm going to be aggressive, and make mistakes (who doesn't) but make aggressive mistakes. Have some fun man!

Best to you Mr. Donnal.

Greatness

More sublime scribblings Brian. Thank for helping me, and I assume others, get through the day.

"Hannah Davis is a professional attractive person."

I'll be ripping versions of that off; ascribing credit when I can. Best . . .

Reply to: R U High

Nah man, but thanks for asking. As physicist David Deutsch answered in an interview when asked about his new ideas and getting high:

"The ideas always come by an undirected variation of existing ideas, and it could be that that's what getting high is."

Getting high alters your "neuronal weather."

Now if you gots some green on the cheap, you know, that artist discount thing . . . let me know.

Verily, I could use the variation . . .

Art & Monetary Code

"... a competitive industry that can no longer afford to consistently value art over commerce."

But art, importantly, like constitutions and coding structures, helps generate necessary homeostasis at the scale of culture (Antonio Damasio; Self Comes to Mind) . . . just like genetic codes provide for homeostasis at the biological scale . . . like when you drink too much and hurl with extreme prejudice, thereby allowing the organism to retain its structural integrity for another day.

Exponentially accelerating complexity has eroded the efficacy of monetary code for the fast, accuarte and powerful calibration of relationship-value.

This contributes to broken art, and a broken sky, ocean, etc., to averageness.

But the margins of selection are tight, impersonal and brutally enforced.

Passing our natural selection tests has become more complex.

Like this: Genetic codes remain on the exam; culture codes have been added. E.g., elephant survival is not only a function of its bio-genome, but of the human cultural genome as well: moral, $, legal codes, etc.

Monetary code has been rendered as shit culture code for our long-term survival by accelerating complexity.

Software code is to monetary code as alphabet code was to pictograph code.

Brandon Not Hiring Harbaugh

Thanks for the excerpts . . .

That Brandon wanted a coach he could dominate, a certified underling, was my intuition. Didn't chalk it up to insecurity, but that fits. Fits with those arch emails he sent as well . . . what a schmuck the guy is, a little man.

Absolutely great writing man; so many fine lines. Thank you.

Re these feline ballers, call me a wimp (I prefer sensitive artist), but I almost always cry/laugh simultaneously when I read about them.

Their joy, enthusiasm, dedication-to-task-and-one-another, their youthful innocence, toughness, etc., is so inspiring . . . especially juxtaposed to the omninous crap of the world. I just try to let their evident "best of humanity" stuff roll through me.

And: HUGE PROPS TO COACH HUTCHINS!

Man, I really want them to win! But understand Florida is awesome too.
