I’m local so went to the game - first time I’ve seen M play at msg without a ‘home field’ crowd advantage. Good representation but I’d say 85 pct in red - which i suppose is expected for a nyc based team.
Takeaways -
nimari when aggressive going to hole is v effective, he is strong and goes hard to the hoop, hope he keeps that mindset
st j had no one who could stay within 2 steps of dug off the dribble drive - though as others mentioned the refs let st j hammer him repeatedly in the lane…another iversoneaqe similarity
soriano is a load . When reed was out we really had no one able to push him off block, though tschetter tried his best . Is lack of size at 5 beyond reed a concern ?
All 5 moved their feet and switched really well innhalf court defense
My very suburban JV HS basketball team scrimmaged Detroit southwestern’s team one year which included he and Jalen. As a combo guard I had the pleasure of being matched up with both at various times.
I was working in the financial district about 10 blocks from ground zero
A buddy and I walked/ran down 41 flights of stairs to leave building, there was enough aash/debris in the street he stepped off 4-inch curb without seeing it , rolled his ankle. We walked about 90 blocks back to upper east side while buildings were collapsing . So much adrenaline pumping he says he didn’t feel any pain on the hour+ walk/run next morning ankle was ballooned up and throbbing, went to ER and they said he clean broke it at the curb.
4 things I won’t forget -
1. We had a big dog we used to let run off leash in Central Park early in morning way up around 96th street - every morning same group of big dog owners. We still all met everyday after - dogs had to run. But for the following week or so, even that far away, there air was filled with an acrid , burning asbestos type smell. Oh yeah and f16s were buzzing over at low height a few times a day in groups of 1/2/3
2. the sound of chirping alarm type noisemakers the first responders wore so that they would be more easily found if there was a collapse and they got buried . That sound was everywhere downtown for a few days, on all the news clips and reports etc
3. horribly for a couple days after first responders were using any refrigerated trucks they could find to recover remains - so there was no road traffic except fire, police, national guard and all types of refrigerated trucks from grocery chains, florists, fish mongers . Which made you sick thinking about it
4. Sadly that morning was a beautiful crisp , clear blue sky where you could see for miles, no smog or haze - perfect conditions for visual flying
DC was a tremendous talent without a lot of help - forced to run the offense and be the #1 option every possession. Sandwiched between ‘89 NC and fab 5.
He was the start of my time at UM which then ran into the glorious but bittersweet fab 5 era - bittersweet only bc the fab5 never won the whole thing -
Yes I was early 90s third fl mosher end - agree on both the straight halls for windsprint / races and Palmer field access. Also the tennis courts and that one basketball court outside was handy. We had one of those inter tube-style window catapults and would fire water balloons hundreds of yards into Palmer field , would knock people over . Maybe not prudent in retrospect. There was also some gas-station housed overstuffed pizza place we’d order from on the other side of Palmer field in that era ….Anthony’s maybe (?). I fondly recAll a small convenience / party store near mojo / stockwell we’d stumble over too late night for munchies - can’t recall the name sadly - they had booze too but notoriously tough for fake IDs
A friend worked at State Discount (RIP) late 80s and I recall each year they'd time the big annual cleanout of the cellar/back rooms with art fair so that the employees could drop handfuls of the junk and expired foodstuffs (think cans of expired off-brand tuna, stale bazooka gum, sun bleached bottles of wishbone italian dressing, dusty sets of terry cloth wrist sweatbands, loose paper clips…) surfaced during the cleanout into brown paper lunchbags, label the bags with a sharpie 'Bag O' Fun', and sell off a broken card table outside the store for $2 to drunk/high art fair patrons. Pocketing the proceeds, of course - all this stuff would have o/w been thrown out. They'd sell dozens of bags on busy days, free beer money
Warde's immediate groveling to the dirtiest program in the BIG post-incident indeed was a sickening reminder of Hoke apologizing to MSU after Bolden showed some fire on the field. pathetic
Thanks for sharing - just confirms Wisco instigated across all of head coach, assistant coach and players . F them , really hope administration shows some backbone
Peppina’s twisty dessert FTW. I also loved the amethyst garden. Was so sad to see it go - fond memories . We also used to hit Cathay house just down dix Toledo regularly way back when…
Father being from Randolph, used to visit from MI every summer as a kid in the 80s - many hours spent at Lynwood with my uncles, listening to them tell me how the pistons would never beat bird, mchale, Parrish, ainge et al
that single email he sent had more impact on the program than the combined rest of us will ever have. Shame he’s gone, board was more interesting with him around
I vaguely recall during that era bells had a Tuesday night special where larges with a couple toppings were like $2 delivered or something? I think you had to buy a full price 2 liter of soda though so total bill with tip approached $10. Loss leader to gain new clientele who might buy on days other than Tuesday perhaps
Also early 90s alum i recall having it delivered to mojo freshman year if we all chipped in as it was rather costly ... and dense ...and full of meat . Pie weighed like 15 lbs. I used to split one with a buddy, at my current age/metabolism that amount might last me a couple days ... and yes it certainly was connected to a gas station -Great memory !

Any tear gas ? I hope so. As an early 90s grad that was requisite for a real street celebration, you never forget the taste !

plus It’s fun to see timme scared to do his typical d-bag flexing after making easy layups -hope to see Duren put him on a poster in 2nd half

Yes, wish he would have connected after #0 suckerpunched TWill . Facts are:
- Wisconsin coach laid hands on Howard as Howard attempted to ignore him
- Wisconsin Asst coach grabbed our players as coaches exchanged words
- Wisconsin player threw first (sucker) punch . Good for Diabate having his teammate's back
Comments in these threads are pathetic
First coach to lay hands on opposing coach --> Wisconsin
First coach to lay hands on opposing player --> Wisconsin
First player to throw a punch --> Wisconsin
