Ahhhh, my eyes!  As a dark reader extension user I cannot get behind white backgrounds that bypass it.....

Edit: Solution I don't like but it does work.  Block the background image from loading...

Thank you, so tired of the…

Thank you, so tired of the pessimism.  I hate that college football fandom has become this pessimistic all or nothing thing.  It's absurd when you consider that 99% of college football has not been, nor will they be, what Alabama or OSU has been the last decade.  It's like fans want to be miserable.  It didn't used to be like this.

This 100%.  I get the…

This 100%.  I get the feeling, as I to get it too, but I also know it can be so much worse.  I do not understand why more of the fanbase doesn't have that same feeling.  I mean, we all lived through the RichRod/Hoke years right?  The reality is that almost all of college football is in similar or worse situations to Michigan, and actually, this year you could make the argument that everyone is.  Perspective is important.

It's better to take a step…

It's better to take a step back and fix yourself than to continue the status quo, especially since the status quo was already affected.  You can't write well if your heart isn't in it and, for me, I've seen it in your writing for awhile now.  So, take the time, fix yourself and I hope, at some point, we see the old Brian.

They should be happy…

They should be happy Michigan thinks winning that game was worth celebrating on their field.  That won't last once we've won a few more

I feel like people need to…

I feel like people need to get some perspective.  You have two programs that are playing at unheard of levels, OSU and Alabama.  We want that as fans, but that level of success is not historically a thing.  Teams don't go undefeated that often, go back and look at our past seasons even before the decade of suck.  What was the average for wins under previous coaches, yes even highly regarded coaches.  I get wanting to win, I get how sometimes it can be frustrating to watch a particular aspect of a team, but get some perspective.  It's one game at the start of the season.  Let's see how it plays out.

Well said, thank you

Well said, thank you

Agreed, we're supposed to…

Agreed, we're supposed to feel good going into a new season, not be talking about how we're going to lose 3 games before any games have even been played.  I get losing to OSU continually sucks and I don't enjoy the week of that game anymore and won't until we win more, but to have this attitude is just nuts.

What is this, Depression…

What is this, Depression Blog?

I would agree with this and

I would agree with this and unfollowed as well. I originally followed for sports reasons, not interested in political or social opinions.  He's entitled to them and to post whatever he wants so don't get it twisted.  I just have no need to see the vitriol in my feed.

That was definitely an off

That was definitely an off game for the coaching staff and it happens.  It happens to every coach, even Saban.  I'm not ready to get out the pitchforks over one game.  I don't really have any quibbles with the way they coached this season.  Young team and QB issues make it hard to draw up any fancy offensive schemes.  After the Hoke and Richrod years I'm ready to be patient and see what they are building.  I think doing anything else is crazy.  You can't build a great program by firing coaches every few years and I think Harbaugh is a good coach.  I also think a lot of fans have rose colored glasses when it comes to the past.  10 win seasons are a rarity if you actually look at history.  It was an off year, so be it.

I think it's important for

I think it's important for future games.  The officiating was horrible and I think it needs to be addressed so that it doesn't happen again.

Started reading and got to

Started reading and got to "offensive line."  I just couldn't read any further.

My question is why is it Ok My question is why is it Ok to suspend due process at the University level? I find this to be repulsive.
Guilty until proven innocent Guilty until proven innocent doesn't sit well with me. It amazes me that people are so ready to give up due process.
I've been doing this every

I've been doing this every week, but it sure would be nice if the podcast would sync with my phone the same way all my other podcasts do.  This "solution" is kind of a pain in the ass, not to mention that the podcast usually gets posted while I'm at work and if it would sync with my phone I could listen to it on the way home.

I don't think a nationally

I don't think a nationally known band needs the Michigan brand to get noticed.  You might not know of this band, but as somone who listens to rock I can tell you that this wasn't done to get noticed.  Heaven forbid a nationally known band from Michigan would want to write a tribute to a Michigan team.  You might not like the song, and you might have some valid points about when it's played, but you don't know what you are talking about regarding the bands motivations.

Right, because everyone

Right, because everyone should like the same music.  I don't generally agree with the "get off my lawn," crowd a lot, but I do think that some things should be untouchable.  The band playing The Victors while the team runs out of the tunnel being one of those things.

The negativity on this board

The negativity on this board toward Brian is beyond ridiculous.  After three years of getting your hopes up only to have them trampled on, I think he's entitled to some skepticism.  I was a RichRod supporter all the way up until about November of this past year and I'll be a Hoke supporter now.  However, just because someone wants Michigan to win doesn't mean it's going to happen and voicing those fears isn't trashing the new coach, it's being realistic and trying to soften any future dissappointment that may or may not happen.

Give it a rest

Seriously, the negativity is annoying and not funny.  Yes, corner is screwed.  It was screwed last year and we were still less than 10 points from a bowl game so excuse me if I'd like a little positivity with my doom.

Honestly, my first thought

Honestly, my first thought is, "whatever."  That isn't in relation to Troy getting hurt, just to the impact on the season.  After the last two years I believe I've seen the worst, so really, bring it on.  One guy isn't going to make or break the season and the corner position already sucked on paper.  That hasn't really changed and I had already figured that freshmen would get extensive reps at the position this year, so this news doesn't really change anything.  Every team has weaknesses, some more than others, and it's how a team makes up for those weaknesses that determines what the season holds.  Let's all just let the season begin before proclaiming the season a disaster.

He does need more time, and He does need more time, and he'll get it too. The majority of our problems can only be addressed with recruiting and, unfortunately, that takes time.
Great Post Yet another example of what we should be seeing on the front page of this blog.
We need more posts like this We need more posts like this and less negativity on this blog. Please. This post lays out exactly why we have issues and laying blame on a second year head coach needs to stop. It is utterly obvious that there is a huge depth problem on both sides of the ball. It is also utterly obvious that there has been some huge improvements over last year. I expect there will be further improvements next year. That doesn't mean we'll be up there with OSU or USC, but we'll see more consistency and growth as this team continues to add depth and experience. Let's get some perspective here and let the coaching staff do its job. We've all had to deal with enough negativity from other sources and I don't think we need to here it here too.
I'm seriously close to I'm seriously close to writing this blog off. Questioning a coaching staff in year two when the previous coaching staff left the cupboard bare or if your nice, very questionable, is ridiculous. I'm not sure what to do with the idea that one of my favorite sites on the internet is going rogue and helping fuel crazy talk.
The negativity that is The negativity that is starting to permeate from this blog is starting to get annoying. We've known for a while now that the defense has serious depth issues. Complaining about it and then blaming the defensive coordinator isn't going to change it. Yes, I'm reading blame when I read this UFR. As you so correctly put, what exactly is he supposed to do with the talent he has to work with. I'm at a loss as to what defensive scheme is going to make up for lack of talent. The last thing we need right now is to change defensive coordinators for the fourth straight year. That position needs some stability right now more than anything else. There is a lot to critique but, please, lets keep things in perspective and just be happy with the improvement we've seen this year. When you factor in the lack of depth on this team it's amazing that they've been able to do as well as they have. That should be praised. Edit: Just to clarify, maybe you aren't being too negative. Maybe I'm just reading too much internet crap....
Speak for yourself, I'm not Speak for yourself, I'm not pissed at all. There is absolutely no reason to be pissed. We were 3-9 last year. We are performing above expectations. Everyone should be extremely satisfied with what they see and be excited for the future. Perspective people.
I actually see the logic I actually see the logic behind going for two after the first touchdown. If you go for two in that spot and miss, you'll get a second shot at the two point for a tie should you score the second touchdown.
My expectations haven't My expectations haven't changed from the start of the season. I still believe we'll be 8-4 or 9-3, but could see 7-5 happening as well. I'm happy with just having a winning season this year.
Exactly. I don't think Exactly. I don't think changing players in and out of the offensive line would be a good idea. I also think you have to take into consideration the weather and the fact that we have very few upperclassmen on the team right now. Would Molk have been better? Probably. However, he's not an option right now and I don't think that second guessing the coaching staff when they have the benefit of seeing the players everyday in practice is a smart thing to do. Hell, even Brian was second guessing having a walk-on or two on defense when you have a scholarship player waiting. If you've been reading the UFR's then you know how wrong he was. The coaches know what they are doing. If there was only one thing someone could learn from last year I would think that it would be patience.
I'd wager that there isn't a I'd wager that there isn't a play in the playbook that doesn't have multiple options. I've got the distinct impression that RichRod likes his players to have choices on every play. For the record, I think this is a good thing even if it leads to a bad read on a punt in your own territory. The upside is far greater for this kind of offense that the stagnant stuff we used to run.
Look, there are going to a Look, there are going to be a lot of converted 3rd downs against us this year. It sucks, it's frustrating, but it is what it is. Our offense is more than capable of keeping us in games and all our defense needs to do is be good enough to let us score more. That, however, isn't going to work every game and there will be games like this. There is a ton to be excited about and I don't see the purpose in second guessing the team right now considering the circumstances. It's a very very young team and the fact that RichRod has Michigan at 4-1 right now speaks volumes about his coaching ability. Enjoy it, enjoy being a part of this culture change. Enjoy watching as Michigan continues to defy expectations. Make no mistake, they'll continue to surprise and amaze, but there are going to be bumps in the road. This team still has a lot of growing to do.
I thought a 2pt conversion I thought a 2pt conversion was a good idea too, however, I have absolutely no problem with either play call in that situation.
He did try to pass and they He did try to pass and they were dropped. I think the weather had a lot to do with the play calling. They didn't go to more passing until it was necessary, and even then it was dangerous (although necessary) considering the downpour.
We have something they don't, We have something they don't, a coach with common sense.
Lloyd deserves credit for Lloyd deserves credit for being a great human being. I wouldn't extend that credit to the football field in his last few years. While he may not have had any 3-9 seasons while he was coach I think that if the current depth on defense is any indication then we would have been in for much worse.
People need to calm down. We People need to calm down. We knew this was coming, at least, anyone paying attention did. That being said, yes, it sucks to lose to sparty but there is a lot to be happy about. I wouldn't let this loss affect that good feeling we all have about this season.
Is there a way to add the Is there a way to add the mgopodcast as a subscription in iTunes? If not, are there any plans to make one available? I listen to all my podcasts while at work and it would be nice have iTunes have this automatically on my ipod ready to go whenever a new one is posted.
The NCAA should have gone to The NCAA should have gone to RR behind closed doors and allowed the Michigan coaching staff to handle it. Allowing the NCAA to publicly handle discipline is a dangerous precedent to set.
The "...pride...fall" remark The "...pride...fall" remark was in reference to a Dantonio quote and very relevant considering their performance this weekend.
Seriously, and ND fans wonder Seriously, and ND fans wonder why people hate Weis so much. The officiating is irrelevant when the other team scores 38 on you with a true freshman quarterback.
I fail to see how it's being I fail to see how it's being taken too far. The article in question is a joke. The author didn't research countable and non-countable hours. He had a conclusion and set out to prove the conclusion. It's like a religious zealot that only seeks out evidence that supports his worldview. It's ludicrous and needs to be scorned and ridiculed. If anything, this article and the author that wrote it needs to be ridiculed more by the national media instead of being supported by them.
You can call it profiling all You can call it profiling all you want, but when a newspaper publishes trash like that and then proceeds to defend it, well, they get what they deserve. Any newspaper or news organization that publishes something like that will get the same treatment. They aren't worth my time or money.
Riiight, because 1997 is Riiight, because 1997 is soooo relevant to 2007. Get real.
I also never said I didn't I also never said I didn't like the kid. I said he's not a good QB and there's plenty of evidence to support this statement. I liked Carr as a person too, but that doesn't mean I wasn't glad he retired. There is a difference between expressing an opinion about whether a player should start or not and how you feel about that player as a person. People need to stop conflating the two. Also, -8, really? This system is seriously flawed when I can get a negative score for an opinion.
Wow, -8, really? There are Wow, -8, really? There are that many people that have a problem with my opinion that Sheridan won't be the starter. That's funny too!
"Roles are reversing..." lol. "Roles are reversing..." lol. They win one game where the Michigan team they beat isn't even capable of beating Toledo and they think they've started a dynasty. How can you not laugh? Seriously, every time I read one of these articles I bust out in spontaneous laughter.
That's just it, he didn't That's just it, he didn't progress.
Even a freshmen plays better Even a freshmen plays better than the wretched performance last year.
Except I'd bet money that Except I'd bet money that Sheridan isn't capable of that. A QB with even a little competency wouldn't perform as badly as he did last year. I just don't get the, he's got more experience line of reasoning. He had experience by the end of last season, didn't see much improvement. Exactly what kind of experience in the off season is better than the game time experience that he gained throughout last season? I'm sure he's a great kid, but he's not going to be the starter. I wouldn't rule out a snap or two at the beginning of the season, but he'll quickly be replaced. However, I don't really believe he'll even take a meaningful snap.
