The 2024 Rose Bowl checked off a major item on my bucket list. I had wanted to go to Pasadena my whole life. I won’t ever go back because I could never match the experience. The final minutes were played in my corner of the field. I could feel the energy created by the crowd for the team. It was an unforgettable experience. The fact that it came against Alabama, made it even sweeter. They have been the gold standard in college football for the last decade plus. We sent Nick Saban into retirement with this game. I am sure he will never forget it either. Go Blue!!!
The tunnel incident coupled with the intent to injure at Big House last year hit home with me, Their long history of hitting late especially when games are lost are well documented. Ghoulson’s attempt to break Denard’s neck was disgusting. Going back to 1984, they knocked Jim Harbaugh out for the season on a cheap shot. I vividly recall that one. I had a perfect view of him diving for loose ball on his stomach reaching for the fumble. Sparty went straight for his arm, not the ball. Elephants, Schembechler, Ufer, and JH never forget, If we have them down next month, in East Lansing, he will run it up, and I will be there to enjoy every second of it.
They were 4-7-1 in 1988, John Cooper’s first year. Cooper was 6-6 in 1999. In 2011, under Like Fickell they were 6-7. Those were 2 of only 3 losing seasons in the last 7 decades, going back to and including the Woody Hayes tenure. Woody was 3-5-1 in 1959. He started there in 1951. I hate them, but I do respect them. Our games have always been hard fought but clean. MSU, on the other hand, can kiss my maize and blue ass. The tunnel incident and deliberate attempts to injure over the years led me to feel that way. If JH has a chance to run it up on Sparty in East Lansing, you can be sure he will. Like elephants, Ufer, and Bo, he never forgets.
I thought the new rules were designed to shorten games. What I saw was less football and more commercials. Game was as long or longer than usual. I have gone to my last home cupcake night game. I got to bed at 1:00 am, and I left after 3rd qtr. If I had stayed til end, it would have been 2:00am,
If they can be as good or nearly as good as last year,, I would be thrilled. Because the offense could be unstoppable. That combination could be good enough to run the table and win it all..
Call me an old fart, but I like the retro plain silver no logo. I grew up watching them dominate the NFL in the 1950’s wearing that helmet. Notre Dame has always had plain gold and it works for them.
I hate to see fan bases in Florida and Vegas be rewarded with a Stanley Cup. I know what hockey means to people in Toronto. I was feeling for them when the Leafs got knocked out.
JH won day games as coach in 2015 and 2021. Lost at night in 2017 and 2019. Noon works for me. We can get back to hotel and sports bar in plenty of time for MSU vs OSU.I highly recommend going to Happy Valley. It is a cool venue.

As a kid thru the 50’s, I remember the Lions had their number. They played for the title in 1952,1953,1954, and 1957. The only time Cleveland won was 1954 by a score of 56-10. The Lions responded with a blowout win in 1957 by a score of 59-14. I think Jim Brown was a rookie and he scored a touchdown early in the game, while it was still competitive. Bobby Layne was out with a broken leg, sustained against the Browns during the regular season. Backup QB Tobin Rote filled in and did a great job. I took my dad to the playoff game against Dallas, when we beat them after the 1991 season. I remember thinking it had been 34 years since the Lions won a post season game. Now it has been 32 years since that one. The NFL used to have a runner up bowl between 2nd. Place teams in East and West divisions and the Lions won that a couple times, but I don’t count those. Those were the years when we couldn’t get by the Lombardi Packers dynasty.

I have had season tickets since 1984 and couldn’t even get one ticket for Indianapolis. I also donated all of my 2 season ticket cost during Covid year. That didn’t help either. I ended up going to Indy with a friend. As far as final four, nothing. A friend received an option for two tickets to final game in Inglewood, I was offered a chance to commit on his offer. He had to agree to put credit card info. on line, to secure tickets if the team qualifies. Only problem was the ticket amount per is at the discretion of the Michigan ticket office. Cost could end up being anywhere from $475 to $1200 each, take your chances. I did a hard pass. I can go on a couple road trips on that amount next season, hotel included.
