As a member of the hockey band from 1989 to 1992, I can tell you that the first director to dance was Matt Ludwig (aka Disco Matt) back in the 1991-92 season.
Prior to that, the director was John Wilkins, but he didn't start dancing until several years later at the basketball games as the director of the Alumni Pep Band. John would only dance during the song "Woodchoppers Ball" He was aksed not to dance during the Dave Brandon years.
I can also tell you that the first year that the Hockey Band was so popular that students had to audition was also the 1991-92 season. Prior to that, the directors occasionally had to ask for memebers of the regular marching band to fill in the empty spaces in the hockey band.
