Yes, looked like he strained…

Yes, looked like he strained his hamstring. WIth these injuries, an aggravation can be worse and take longer to recover from than the initial injury so best to be conservative with it. It would make sense to hold him out for Illinois and hope to bring him back for Penn St.

We owe Pep a huge apology.

I have to say. I don’t want…

I have to say. I don’t want to like Urban, but he is really good on TV.

The Wisconsin hit was a…

The Wisconsin hit was a horrible cheap shot that would have injured any QB, but I agree in the sense that he plays too recklessly for someone with the body that he has. It’s not like he’s Cam Newton just bowling over defenders.

He was an extremely raw…

He was an extremely raw prospect, not even close to a sure thing.

Agreed. If he ever plays a…

Agreed. If he ever plays a meaningful snap for M we'll be in deep trouble.

The offense has been…

The offense has been terrible and the defense has been terrible. There seems to be a major problem with leadership and culture in the program, as there is too much talent, both in the players and the coaches, to be performing at this level.

But football’s a weird game. I remember watching the Pats get blown out by the chiefs 41-14 on Monday night in 2014, dropping the Pats to 2-2 after 4 lackluster weeks where Brady looked flat out washed up. I remember thinking Brady was done, the Pats dynasty was over and it was probably time to start transitioning to Jimmy G. Of course, they proceeded to go on a major tear after that disastrous game and went on to win the Super Bowl that season and then win 2 more after that.

You just never know what’s going on in that locker room. Hopefully Wisconsin was the nadir for this team and a major wake up call for both the players and the coaches. I still believe in Harbaugh as a coach, and I still believe in the talent on this team. If they believe in each other they can still turn it around. We will find out soon enough.

Good point. I'm sure if Jim…

Good point. I'm sure if Jim had any role in designing the plays he would have at least kept all of the effective smashmouth goal line packages.

I get that, but short…

I get that, but short yardage situations are completely different. It doesn't matter if it's connected to the rest of the offense.

You beat me to it in my comment below, but I agree completely.

I would like to see them go…

I would like to see them go under center and run behind a fullback on short yardage. Running out of the shotgun in short yardage is asinine. I don't understand why the entire playbook from last year was scrapped. They should have kept the effective parts.

Not only is the mouth guard…

Not only is the mouth guard thingy ugly, but it covers up most of the block M. Weird design choice. Why not put the block M more toward the front or middle?

Were his clothes dry or not? Trying to decide who's the guilty party here.

The part I just can’t get…

The part I just can’t understand is that (according to Brendan Quinn) other than 1 text message, Warde had no contact with Beilein for 11 days after being informed that he was going to have discussions with NBA teams. It may not have made a difference in the end, but how do you not stay in the loop and aggressively try to keep him?

Warde is hamstrung by the…

Warde is hamstrung by the timing and the apparent lack of institutional support to throw out huge money offers to tier 1 candidates, but he also hasn't done anything to inspire confidence by hopping on a plane to South Africa and not staying in touch with Coach Beilein when he knew he was interviewing. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

I don't want to bag on the…

I don't want to bag on the kid, but I don't think he was ever going to be a fit at Michigan,. He never seemed very interested in the program, other than taking in some free basketball games. Not what we need.

I don’t want to be Ohio…

I don’t want to be Ohio State either, but I wouldn’t mind being Duke.

IMO it's time to relax our thinking about dogmatically following corrupt rules that are flouted by Michigan's competitors and not enforced by the NCAA. Arguably, the over-reaction to the Fab 5 era set Michigan back much more than the scandal itself. Imagine the alternate reality where Michigan had stood behind Steve Fisher and continued to go about its business over the next decade.

I wish this was true, but is…

I wish this was true, but is there any evidence to suggest Michigan is treating this coaching search like money is no issue? I don't see us making market-setting, godfather offers for Donovan, Beard or the other tier 1 options, and I see us balking at the buyouts for the Tier 2 options (at least to the extent that they are factoring into the thought process). Money seems to be no issue for the football program, but I'm not so sure about the basketball program.

Nope. The extension and…

Nope. The extension and raise without the buyout was perhaps justifiable as a reward for past services, but had no retentive purpose. Without a penalty if he left early, Beilein was a free agent even after he signed the contract. It just meant Michigan would have to pay him more if they fired him. It was like a perpetual one-sided opt out.

There's a continuum between…

There's a continuum between constant communication/badgering and this :

"Athletic director Warde Manuel, Beilein’s boss, was given a sliver of notice. Beilein alerted him two weeks ago that he was going to engage in conversations with NBA teams. No specifics were given. No teams were mentioned. Things were exceedingly preliminary at that point.

Soon after, on May 2, Manuel traveled to South Africa with the Michigan football team. The only communication between the two in the days that followed was a text message from Manuel to Beilein asking how things were going. Beilein responded that all was well and the two should catch up. Their next contact was 11 days later, on Monday morning, when Beilein called Manuel to tell him he had accepted the job with the Cavaliers."

It may not have made a difference in the end, but I would have liked the AD to have made more of an effort to stay in the loop and try to keep Beilein and/or to plan for life without him over those 11 days.

Warde only moves quickly…

Warde only moves quickly when a buffet is involved.

The smart play for Donovan…

The smart play for Donovan would be to try leverage a strong Michigan offer into an extension from OKC, and if they don't offer one (which in itself should be telling about their future plans for him), then make the jump. Jobs like Michigan don't open up every year.

I'm afraid the timing of his…

I'm afraid the timing of his departure, with very little advance notice, almost certainly means he didn't leave the program in great shape. Unless we make an improbable slam dunk hire, things could go South fast. It already looks doubtful we land any of the targets for the currently open roster spots, and now we have a good chance at losing Wilson and Bajema too, not to mention any transfers from the current roster that might follow from this. The roster is looking dangerously thin for next year and no great/obvious successors have emerged to lead the program.

Lol. People on this board…

Lol. People on this board wanted Beilein fired 3 years ago.

Agreed. I think he's talking…

Agreed. I think he's talking about bringing back the swag of the Fab 5 era, signing 5*s, having a more star player oriented than coach oriented culture etc. Honestly, I don't think it's a crazy suggestion, but it was poorly worded tweet as it suggested that there was a problem with the culture under Beilein. I'm afraid that this coaching search is going to be too oriented toward bringing in someone to replicate Beilein's choir boy culture. Achieving success that way doesn't feel at all repeatable without a visionary basketball genius like Beilein at the helm, and they don't exactly fall from trees.

You lost me at "shitty inner city university". Nova is in the tony suburbs outside of Philly.

Under. Trey Flowers averaged…

Under. Trey Flowers averaged 7 sacks/season with the Pats over the past 3 years. That seems like a more realistic number, but probably optimistic in his rookie year. The Pats also really emphasize containing the pocket over sacks, so it's not a great scheme for putting up gaudy numbers. With that said, however, I see the Pats as an ideal landing spot for Chase and he will fit perfectly in their scheme and locker room.

Perfect pick for the Pats!

Let's not get all high and mighty. Sam said that JP is currently in CA preparing for the pros. I'd like to know how many guys that have declared for the draft with no intention of returning finish out the semester. Probably very few.

Exactly. If Michigan is…

Exactly. If Michigan is paying for basketball players it would be pretty sad considering we are never even remotely in contention for any 5 stars.

FYI-Dax's big brother, Justice Hill, with a strong score of 30. Can't wait for the Dax Hill era to begin!

I agree. It would have been…

I agree. It would have been easy for him to shut it down for the season like Bosa, but he battled through it as best as he could. I get how the Rashan Gary era was largely a disappointment for us fans but I hope he still has best football in front of him and will prove the doubters wrong.

He's been battling this…

He's been battling this injury over multiple seasons and missed time and not produced much relative to his physical talents, so I would say it has been somewhat debilitating and likely will continue to be until he gets it fixed.

Fitzpatrick has one of the…

Fitzpatrick has one of the weakest arms of any starting NFL QB. The fact that he’s been able to stick around this long is definitely a testament to his intelligence.

The decision to get ND back…

The decision to get ND back on the schedule is looking pretty dumb in hindsight, especially the fact that they agreed to resume the series starting in South Bend last year. They easily could have been undefeated last year going into the OSU game (not that that it would have mattered much in the end, but still...)

I love the source for this…

I love the source for this news:

The news of Beilein's trip to Germany comes from an unlikely source, as 2019 three-star combo guard Nah'Shon Hyland tipped TMI off to the trip. When asked whether Beilein will be visiting him next week, Hyland told TMI that Beilein wasn't expected to be on the trip.

"No, Beilein will be in Germany I believe," Hyland told TMI when asked whether Beilein will be visiting him this coming week.

These are 18 year old kids…

These are 18 year old kids. There will always be a certain percentage of guys who wash out because they're not on board with the culture of the program or because they make a rash decision over playing time. Not much you can do about it. When you start catering to these guys is when you really lose the program.

I hope they try Dax as a…

I hope they try Dax as a solution at slot CB this year. He seems better equipped to do that effectively than other options on the roster.

The biker gang heist of the projects stash house from Season 1 of TD is definitely one of the best (if not the best) action sequence ever filmed for TV. Amazing tracking shot. IMO Season 3 lacked the action and set pieces from Season 1 that put it over the edge for me, but the acting was great and overall it was a compelling story.

I appreciate the sentiment,…

I appreciate the sentiment, but isn’t arriving 20 minutes early to class actually a poor use of time? These guys could use the extra 15 minutes of sleep.

I tend to agree and overall…

I tend to agree and overall thought Carr did a good job. The decade we spent in the wilderness after he retired proves his worth. However, I still think he did a really bad job handling the Brady/Henson situation in '99. He let politics get in the way of giving his team the best chance to win that year.

Pass pro is clearly the…

Pass pro is clearly the biggest concern. A Turner/Charbonnet rotation on early downs with Tru as the 3rd down back has promise, but it's only 1 injury away from disaster.

We might have lost the…

We might have lost the Illinois game anyway in '99, but I've always felt like we would have won the MSU game if Brady hadn't been benched in the 2nd quarter. He was bringing us back in the 2nd half but ran out of time. The 2 QB rotation in '99 was truly one of the dumbest things to have ever occurred in the modern era of Michigan football. This isn't revisionist history. It was obvious at the time that Brady was better.
