Yeah i mean that's my…

Yeah i mean that's my problem with him.  Yes, May was a great hire, excellent job Mr. Manuel.  BUT, they had to call in Beilein to close it.  If he continues working like that, bringing people together to get the job done, absolutely.  He hasn't done that before though so it would be a change for the better.

Same with Harbaugh's renewal, Santa Ono had to step in to stop Manuel from messing it all up.  So even though this is great, I need to see continued humility and teamwork -- otherwise it looks like those around him are doing his job for him instead of letting Michigan fail.  And for that, he wouldn't need to stay in his role.

That said, I hope he proves me wrong.  Keep it going, people absolutely can learn to get better at their jobs.

Not true.  I wanted to and…

Not true.  I wanted to and always got downvoted to hell for it here.

That's been the case for…

That's been the case for like 100 years though at Michigan.  Even when the football team was bad, we always are like top 10 for the director's cup.

I mean, isn't insider…

I mean, isn't insider trading considered immoral if not outright illegal in many cases??

Taking him at his word, but…

Taking him at his word, but if it wasn't true it should have been trivially easy for MLB to show the receipts that he was lying.  AFAIK, they never accused him of throwing games.

Well, his main defense is…

Well, his main defense is that he never did anything short of trying his best to win games.  I guess as a gambling addict in recovery, i empathize with the idea that he had a hard line on what he wouldn't sacrifice for gambling, even though he knew gambling was a vice and not a virtue.

I mean, these guys made…

I mean, these guys made Piazza look like a contact hitter and he's the greatest home run hitting catcher of all time, never took steroids.

Idk if this is fair, but i feel like bonds deserves nothing for being greedy.  He was already well on his way to being the greatest hitter of all time, and he was also an elite defensive player, 3x national league MVP by the age of like 29.  But that wasn't enough! He got jealous of like mark mcguire and jose canseco and started juicing to bump up his HR stat.  Idk, to me that's a huge betrayal of sportsmanship.

I mean, the whole point of…

I mean, the whole basis of defending pete rose is the understanding that he never threw any games or bet against his own team.

I mean people do grow and…

I mean people do grow and change.  Doesn't change the fact that he has been a shitty AD for years, but the Dusty May hiring is excellent.

Idk awd doesn't do anything…

Idk awd doesn't do anything for me. I drive FWD and never had an issue that awd would have helped.  Main thing is sliding while braking in the snow and awd doesn't do anything for that so im not sure the point if youre not offroading.

Lots of people go to college…

Lots of people go to college for seven years.

Yeah, they're called redshirt + covidshirt + medshirt ncaa athletes.

I suppose they were *trying*…

I suppose they were *trying* to be funny, but yes i negvote unfunny jokes

So you want him to recruit…

So you want him to recruit ten freshman? How does that work? How do we recruit anyone for 2025 when we have a monster ten person 2024 class??

I dont like him but a…

I dont like him but a mediocre team would be a huge improvement for us right now.  I'm not going to necessarily say we should go after him honestly i dont know much about him, but just any half decent coach who will be a good culture guy (i.e. sure to avoid any scandals) is what we need for a year or two.  Build the team back up to a .500ish team with half decent bench/underclass.   Then we can offer some homerun longterm excellent coach.

Remember we were dead last in the conference, outside the top 300 nationally.  And all the players from this trash team are about to transfer out.  Oh yeah and our dogshit AD is on the hotseat.

We are rock bottom right now, no great coach will touch our program with a ten foot pole at the moment.

I have no idea but i would…

I have no idea but i would guess gambling is so normalized, like any of these mega millionaires might blow $1000 on the roulette table and nobody bats an eye.  Because $1000 is nothing to them.  But there might be no way of knowing if Ohtani or anyone else then goes on to lose millions over the course of a year.  Ive had friends like that, not millionaires but they lose 100$ along with the rest of us livebetting at the bar and we all just have a good laugh about it.  Then we find out much later that one of us in that group had a massive gambling addiction, might only lose $100 in front of his friends, but we had no waying of knowing he was losing thousands a week.

It's just polluting the…

It's just polluting the message board.  Like, if any mgouser posted about their own family member struggling with cancer i would 100% upvote and leave a supportive message.  But like why are talking about a random person somewhere far away from Michigan with no connection at all to the university, to the state or to any mgousers at all?

Like if you care so much about fuck cancer go help any of the thousands of people here in our state with cancer.

Seriously, might as well be posting some random person in timbuktu got cancer you guys.  But if I post that now i get downvoted to hell, oh well, im obviously the minority here and the vast majority thinks the royal family matters to them.

the implication is that…

the implication is that ohtani was making those bets, the translator just used his own name to avoid getting ohtani in trouble.  so really this looks like it could be ohtani's gambling debts since he was so willing to pay 4.5M "for his translator."

for the most part, got…

for the most part, got arrested for a bar fight i think a few years ago but nothing came of it.

Change the channel or record…

Change the channel or record and skip the commercials.  Like we suffer through all this garbage tv, including commercials, but they get millions of eyeballs and make money to continuing putting this crap on the airwaves.

Michigan is the greatest…

Michigan is the greatest university in the world, including our athletic department.  That's not an issue at all.

But, because of the state of the basketball right now, you are absolutely correct that this is not a desirable head coaching position.

No great coaches are coming here rhis  offseason.  They might only do so to collect a massive check and coast, in which case they would no longer be a great coach.

Our basketball team is a total shitshow right now, any mediocre coach would be a massive improvement.  We just need a mediocre coach with great "character" to get the program stable, even if only at .500 and then after a season or two, go for the homerun hire.

Honestly, if Martelli has two seasons in him before retirement, he might be the ideal candidate, would happily be replaced for a homerun .  Or someone like that.

We basically can't be worse…

We basically can't be worse.  We can get a team of walkons from the student population and win about as many games as we did this season.  (Maybe not if they were coached by Howard i suppose)

No need to act quickly but…

No need to act quickly but no need to delay either.  We aren't going to get a great coach for next season, our team is a total dumpster fire.

We just need a mediocre "character" guy to stabilize the program, get us back to .500ish and then go for the homerun hire when it wouldn't be insanity for a great coach to come here.

Wont miss him, he's barely a…

Wont miss him, he's barely a rotation player on any other tean in the conference.

Dont need a home run hire.  Just need a mediocre coach to get us back in the .500 ballpark, stabilize the situation and then go for the homerun hire when we're not one of the worst teams in the country anymore.

We ended up winning a game…

We ended up winning a game that was a war of attrition, but it was way too close and extremely uncomfortable.

Against a top ten Penn State in a sold out Beaver Stadium! Are you freaking kidding me?  Close wins are not allowed anymore??

Plenty of bad stuff is…

Plenty of bad stuff is really popular unfortunately, that movie was pretty dumb.

Yeah, with Hart at least in…

Yeah, with Hart at least in my head he left because he was upset Harbaugh was leaving to the NFL, not because he didn't love working with him.

Make your own podcast then,…

Make your own podcast then, you'll get like four people to listen to it when they accidentally click on it because who else would want to hear about the god awful basketball season?

Technically wouldn't be …

Technically wouldn't be "employees" then, but yeah i dont get all these complicated potential solutions.  There is no actual problem to solve, just get rid of all the rules, just follow all the current labor laws that apply to all adults.  There's just no reason we actually need special rules for people who play sports and are registered to take college courses.

Howard is supposed to be a…

We dont need a good coach…

We dont need a good coach right now, just a mediocre one to build us up to being a .500 team and then be ready to hire a great coach when the opportunity arises.

Sure, totally logical to…

Sure, totally logical to have some fear of change when you have something to lose.  Like a .500 team could do worse with a change, even if that team aspires to compete for championships.

We have nothing to lose.  Our only possible accomplishment this season might be keeping St John's gets out of the tournament because of how bad that loss is looking on their resume.

  I would accept it.

  I would accept it.

What do you mean by that?  I haven't even watched a game in several months, i changed the channel Sunday when it came on.  But sure, i accept the fact that legally speaking nobody can force Manuel to fire Howard.

Since mentioned issues, it's…

Since you mentioned issues, it's not that I have a specific problem with cowherd.  It's that he's just another talking head who has no idea what he's talking about and that's his whole job.  To talk and fill airtime with inane babble.

In other words there's just no reason to care about what he says.  Half the time the team he predicts will win, and half the time they wont, hes like a broken clock if you will.

If it's good background noise when you're at home or driving, then great.  But you add zero credibility by citing him.

Brock Huard was an NFL quarterback, that gives him some authority to be listened to, even though it sounds like this donovan mcnabb comment makes no sense at all.

So, to resolve the "issue" just quote Huard and dont even need to mention cowherd because it just doesn't matter at all whether Huard was talking to him or any other talking head.

Your kids aren't special. …

Your kids aren't special.  They're special to you, sure, but when they go out in the real world at the age of 22, they're just an adult who will get called out for messing up.

I mean, what does Tuttle…

I mean, what does Tuttle have if not experience??!?

Well he lost two quarterback…

Well he lost two quarterback battles to the two guys who were starting the National Championship game a few weeks ago, so you can't really hold that against him.

I was at that point with the…

I was at that point with the start of the four team playoff.  None of this makes sense, and even if it did it wouldn't matter to me.  I watch Michigan Football to watch Michigan students kick buckeye ass.  The first eleven games are all practice for the ohio game.

Really dont care at all what anybody in the big ten office or ncaa office has to say about  it.

man i couldn't give the…

man i couldn't give the slightest shit about that, we just went 15-0, three wins in a row over ohio.  i wouldn't even be mad if they just banned us from the playoffs.  i dont let the mickey mouse company control my feelings about football.

Besides the snow, if you're…

Besides the snow, if you're someone who hates the snow, there's no better place to live in the US.  And I've been to quite a few really nice places but AA is just the best.

Dude i make $60k and i cant…

Dude i make $60k and i cant afford to live in ann arbor but i have a pretty great lifestyle, never worried about making rent or buying pretty much whatever i want, can afford vacations, etc.

Anyone who can afford to live in ann arbor based on their income is in fact filthy rich.

Really you're gonna try to…

Really you're gonna try to garner sympathy for a bank making loans??

That's what they do.  If the loan isn't a good one they have all the resources available to them to not make the loan in the first place.

When thousands of people get laid off by a corporation, it's just business.  But when someone freaking DIES and the bank eats the loan somehow thats a moral failure??

I agree, but having to sit…

I agree, but having to sit there and watch nothing happen in the freezing cold in the middle of the game is a way bigger deal for me than the prospect of having ads in the stadium.

Has any team gone from…

Has any team gone from runner-up in the CFB Playoff to unranked (currently #29) in the following preseason?

Didn't TCU do this the year before?

That's interesting actually,…

That's interesting actually, as NIL starts to spiral out of control, a draft might be needed!  Especially if the sec/b1g are allowed to collude, it might make a lot of sense in the not-so-distant future!

Good to hear the boys made a…

Good to hear the boys made a good effort, better than i expected and a good sign for the improvement of the team culture.

It's hard to say.  An…

It's hard to say.  An otherwise mentally healthy person who looks like a perfectly well functioning adult could have a gambling addiction and go broke.

Another person who looks like a disaster, with documented mental illness, but if they just don't ever dip into their savings like theyre supposed to, they could stay wealthy their entire lives. 🤷‍♂️

Idk what you guys are…

Idk what you guys are talking about.  Every single student has a contract with the university they're enrolled in.  Like im pretty sure the first student who ever went to harvard college in the 1600s had a contract with the university.  Some students make a ton of money outside the school working for banks/law firms/ or just being famous and doing commercials. Some students like phd students have multiyear contracts where the students are paid directly by the university.

But for some reason we start talking about student-athletes and people make up all these incoherent objections.

Who is Ben?

Who is Ben?

I just dont give a shit…

I just dont give a shit anymore about any of this.  It's simple, Michigan tries to win the next game, one game at a time.  I just dont see any point to trying to understand how the conferences decide these crazy schedules to maximize TV profits.
