I see Martavious Odoms,…

I see Martavious Odoms, right in the middle of the picture.

My memory of the Amazon…

My memory of the Amazon special in 2017 was that McCaffery had the ability to get on camera a lot. Like he was always in the right place to be in the shot. So this check out.

Slightly related, has anyone else noticed this about Fred Jackson? Maybe I'm only noticing because it's on my mind, but it seems like I see him in sideline shots at least five times a game.

I bet he jumped in…

I bet he jumped in celebration two seconds before he got the news.

It’s a great name!

It’s a great name!

Did you know...that if you…

Did you know...that if you live in Ironwood, you're closer to five other state capitols and the capitol of Manitoba (Winnipeg) than you are to Lansing. And a couple more are only forty miles further (Indianapolis and Pierre).

Interesting that your …

Interesting that your "joined" date is just a few days after that Purdue game. Misery and company and all that I guess.

Don't worry, it's almost…

Don't worry, it's almost over!

Aww man...I can't believe I…

Aww man...I can't believe I did that.

Thanks! The shirts were the best back then: the Mike Martin Hulk shirt, the Will Campbell Thor shirt.

You should bring back the Barwis shirt in red and white.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Sorry this is late. I…

Sorry this is late. I finished it up in a maternity recovery room at Butterworth hospital after my wife delivered twins. That's the good part. The bad part is that I was working through the final two days of August - when the Freep dropped their allegations - during the first half of the Army game. I think needles under my fingernails would be preferable to that combination.

Hanging out on the 7th floor…

Hanging out on the 7th floor of Butterworth in Grand Rapids. Excited to watch the game with our two day old twins. Also, slightly excited to watch the game without the distractions of our three older kids.

Such a sad story, and such…

Such a sad story, and such classy actions from the Harbaugh family.

Also, as an Ionia resident, it's crazy to see Saranac in the news. I just stopped at their Speedway an hour ago.

My apologies if there there…

My apologies if there there's anyone who missed this feature in March. It was a busy month.

Yeah, events like that are…

Yeah, events like that are why I continue with this series, even through the football months of 2008.

Yeah, well said. It just…

Yeah, well said. It just comes down to winning. I think people like to grasp on to something to complain about. I always thought it was ridiculous how upset people got about Hoke wearing short sleeves or clapping or not wearing a headset. Probably there was a correlation between all that and not running a stellar program and then not winning, but if he had won, those would have been seen as a signature style that set him apart, "look at our guy winning big games in late November...with no sleeves!" If Rodriguez had won, those who truly didn't like his offense would have faded away, instead it became an easy target of criticism.

Also, I agree it's interesting to go through these past games and remember personal history. My wife and I were married in August 2008, so these games are memorable as far as where we were and what we were doing. I only have a vague memory of the OSU game though. I think I was watching, but also desperately trying to find something to distract myself.

Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks for the kind words!

Good point. I'm interested…

Good point. I'm interested to see when they're used next. Maybe a basketball win over MSU? Maybe a commit - Gardner or Dorsey?

My apologies for the delay…

My apologies for the delay on this, but I'm guessing there aren't many who are ready to relive this month. October is about half done, so hopefully that'll be ready in a week or so.

Thanks for the kind words…

Thanks for the kind words. No you haven't missed anything; I've just been procrastinating. I've been working on it more lately and plan to power through October too, so hopefully I'll have both up in quick succession.

Here is a tidbit I just came across though: September 2008 was the first time that the two Muppets videos were found and came together. Not that there was a reason to use them...but this was the inception the MGoBlog tradition.

Yes! That's a good one. I…

Yes! That's a good one. I like the alumni association ads with The Victors motif used throughout. Both of these make me want to keep listening to the commercial rather than turning down the sound.

That's excellent! Crazy that…

That's excellent! Crazy that's it's 104 years old. Thanks for sharing.

Nevermind, I just reposted…

Nevermind, I just reposted it to the board, if this could be deleted that would b awesome. Thanks!

Mods...this was supposed to be on the message board. Mea cupla. Can it be moved to it's appropriate place?

This is an impressive post…

This is an impressive post. Thanks for not just posting the title and including something like "let's hope this is good news!". Well done OP.

Ah, thanks! That's going to…

Ah, thanks! That's going to be very helpful. I appreciate the help.

I apologize ahead of time, I…

I apologize ahead of time, I haven't read through this thread, so these might have already been mentioned. First thing is that it would be nice if diaries were easier to access. Especially on mobile, but even on the website, I'm not sure how to find diaries past the first three that are listed on the front page. Google helped though.

The second is probably pretty specific to my "This Month in..." diary, but it's difficult to go back into the previous pages of front page content. Before each page of ten or so articles was given it's own unique URL, so you could change the number in the URL and get to where you needed to be without too much difficulty. Now every time you click to another page of older articles the URL stays the same (additional stories). To get to July 2008, I had to go back to December 2004 and click through enough times to get where I needed to be.

Sorry to hear this. I worked…

Sorry to hear this. I worked with his (Josh) uncle Nay for awhile. Great old guy, except for being a huge state fan of course.

THIS. This is is the most…

THIS. This is is the most amazing thing I've seen on the MGoBlog board I have ever seen. This needs to be put on the user curated HOF. Also, I want to hear the King's Singers sing this now.

Based on that last post, I…

Based on that last post, I think we're now in MGoBlog 4.0. I'm not sure what distinction was between 1.0 and 2.0 though.

Ah yeah sorry, I wondered

Ah yeah sorry, I wondered about that a little while after I replied. Your comment seemed believeable since the pending update has been so long in coming.

Fixed, thanks!

Fixed, thanks!

Well, no. That update

Well, no. That update happened. That's what you're looking at right now, i.e. the last big update to the site.

Oh man, I forgot about those

Oh man, I forgot about those types of Facebook groups. That was a long time ago...

Ha, yeah sorry. I realize

Ha, yeah sorry. I realize it's Poole, but it did take my eyes a bit to figure out what I was looking at when I first brought up that post.

True, what was written had a

True, what was written had a lot of historical president to go on. But it's still a rough read.

Yeah that's an interesting

Yeah that's an interesting point about this class. I think Omameh was the lowest rated too? I think Mike Martin could be that conversation, but his career has been stalled by injuries.

Yeah, there were a number of

Yeah, there were a number of things in this month that pointed to his work habits as being slipshod, at best. In one of the mailbags there was someone who claimed to work for a major booster at Tulane who said RR wasn't considered for the head coach after Tommy Bowden left because he always had one major skrew up (something to that effect). Now, it certainly seems like more of a pattern.

Growing up in Armada

Growing up in Armada Township, Dick Enberg was certainly extra famous. Sad news.

Ha, yeah sorry, but I'll

Ha, yeah sorry, but I'll probably continue. Maybe I'm just a gluton for punshment.

One of the reasons I started this series two years ago was a faint memory of the crazy days just before the 2010 season. I think Pete Carroll was just dismissed from USC, and I think Troy Woolfolk had just been injured for the season. The college football world seemed to be tipped upside down, and the season hadn't even started. I think this was the time of the original posbang because everyone needed an emotional lift. I want to go back and see what that was all about.

I would be interesting to try to find all the board posts throughout these eras too, but I don't have time for that.

Yeah, I wouldn't take that as

Yeah, I wouldn't take that as fact. There is a lot of stuff that gets lost in ten years. The Blogspot page kept a little more, but even then it will say zero comments but Brian will later make reference to the comments in the open thread or comments on the post, etc.

Yikes! Thanks. Autofill

Yikes! Thanks. Autofill giveth and autofill taketh away...

Ah thanks. Sometimes Brian's

Ah thanks. Sometimes Brian's writing in this era was obscure. Some big event would pass and he would only give it a passing mention, or he would write about a basketball game but you wouldn't know the score or even who won without looking it up separately. It doesn't help that most of the ten year old links are broken.

The Jason Witlock piece was

The Jason Witlock piece was November 2005.

I grew up about a mile from

I grew up about a mile from Blakes...and was probably only there once or twice in my life. It was a lot cheaper to grow our own strawberries, and we would buy apples and cider from the orchards in Romeo.

Oh you know, the uneventful

Oh you know, the uneventful Carr to Harbaugh transition was so easy. I thought this timeline gave the history some spice.

Stevie Brown got a -5 on the

Stevie Brown got a -5 on the third play of the season in 2007. Oh whoops, I just gave a big spoiler to This Month in MGoBlog History. Not that anyone will want to read it...

I would like to see some things like this tracked. Who has gotten the biggest negative/positive on one play. Who has gotten the best overall score at east positions, etc.

Ah good thought, thanks.

Ah good thought, thanks.

Yeah that didn't turn out

Yeah that didn't turn out very well. I'm not sure if there's a good way to block quote block quotes. The preview is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, or like watching a

Yeah, or like watching a suspense movie that you've seen before and yelling at the person not to go into the basement because you know what the next seven years are like, but you also know that it's pointless because they aren't going to stop.
