I get that wins matter, but I believe Beilein is a very good coach (and one that is great for Michigan) and I don't think the last 2 years are a strong enough sample size to make me change my opinion. That's my analysis in a nutshell.

RR failed and was fired because he was a bad fit. Beilein is a good fit and has had success, so I don't see comparison there. Respect is just a factor I believe should be included in evaluation (akin to scouting in baseball).
And if missing the tourney 2 years in a row is such a crime, why did Tommy Amaker get 6 years?
Funny, I just pulled up the old "Has Beilein passed Izzo" thread for laughs and you thought Beilein was a hall of famer "guaranteed" and you'd take him over Izzo.

Beilein has done some great things at Michigan and this year's offense is still at #16 on kenpom. Fran McCaffery (of the first place Hawkeyes) called him "one of the greatest coaches of our generation."
The defense and recruiting have been frustrating, but knows what he's doing. The other coaches know that. Lots of smart people in basketball know that.
How about being respected among his peers? Being voted one of the best offensive coaches in the country? Fellow coaches rave about Beilein.
How aboug going to many different programs that have had no history of success and then laying a foundation of winning? Taking 4 different schools to the NCAA tournament? Winning everywhere he's been?
He doesn't have a spotless W/L record because he took a strange route to get where he is today. Turning around those types of programs doesn't happen overnight and it leaves you with some bad looking W/L records.
And then come on. "Solid" coaches don't win conference championships and a final four in a 3 year stretch.
I get that people are frustrated with the basketball team, but come on. Let's not act like Beilein can't coach.
McGary scored points because he could shoot. JMo couldn't shoot so he contributed in other ways. Beilein does not need a 5 who puts up double digit PPG to win.
His lack of scoring points didn't stop them from getting a B1G title outright 2 years ago. Or from getting to the Elite 8 (and damn near another Final 4).

The Sixers are getting a lot of heat, but at least they have a long term plan: Stink for now to get top draft picks. Eventually (assuming the prospects don't all bust), they'll have a lot of young, cheap talent to win with. They aren't gonna stink forever.

A 60% career win percentage is different at Miss St than it is at a powerhouse. Considering his resources and recruiting, it's quite impressive what he's done.
I just wish he'd do more though. Like bringing in another lefty to compete with Phil Coke in spring training. Perhaps instead of spending big on a few guys, spread it out. Sort of like what he did with SS this year, threw a bunch of guys at the wall and went with what stuck.
Maybe could have made a move for Andrew Miller too, but hard to know what they were asking for.

That said, when you split it, per wOBA against, Al Al is better against both lefties and righties than Joe Nathan is.
A 10 inning postseason sample size would not scare me away from using one of the Tigers' better (that's not saying much) RP in Alburquerque in a higher leverage situations.
The Tigers are still built pretty well to win next year with some moves

Billy Donovan won back to back titles and then went to the NIT two years in a row. Did he suddenly become a bad coach during that stretch?

This seems like a very weird place to complain about recruiting.
Only 1 of those is on the road (@ Minnesota). Penn State is home and neutral court game.
@Ilinois, and Indiana, Northwestern, and Iowa at home are very winnable games. Could be favored in all of them.
@Ohio State and @Wisconsin can be done. They've lost to teams not nearly as good as Michigan on those courts.

There are some BABIP and strand rate luck arguments you could make for Al Al, but basically, across the board, his nubmers have been better.
