Here’s another comment for you…. I forgot to tell you I ALMOST dressed up in a Michigan hoodie with a pair of binoculars around my neck last night, but I didn’t want to actually talk about the situation, and I knew Amy’s family would have been all over it if I’d opened the door.  So I went as a middle-aged financial advisor who just left the office.

There will be more games in Lincoln:)   Not quite like going to the Big House, but it's pretty damn fine football cathedral.

It all depends on the youth…

It all depends on the youth soccer schedule.  My dad (who is responsible for me being a fan to begin with) will be in town that weekend from Charlotte, so I would LOVE to make it a 3 generation event.  If I end up going, I'll come back to this thread and let you know.  An mgoblog meet-up would be great in Lincoln!

They want Michigan to fail…

They want Michigan to fail at all things, so that's the heart of it.  Believe me, it gets worse during basketball season.

I'm just outside Topeka.  My wife grew up here, so that's why we eventually ended up in this area after living in several other states.  My folks went to UM and I was born in AA, but I grew up in Florida for the most part, so I'm used to being a pretty lonely fan.  There are several mgobloggers just in Topeka though...and I'm pretty sure at least two or three that live in Wichita.  Are you planning on going to the Nebraska game by chance?  I took my son two years ago, and we went to the Iowa game last year.  It's such a rare treat to only drive a couple hours to a game.

You're correct Ruth.  I don't hate Hunter, and I wouldn't hate him if he went to KU.  I hate KU.  I didn't really have much of an opinion about the school until I moved here, but as you know well, it's their fans that are the problem.  I winced every time I saw Jalen Wilson in a KU uniform...as if it wasn't heartbreaking enough to lose Beilein as a our coach, that made it even worse.

Weather Underground just adjusted their forecast to "AM Ice" which made me chuckle.  How about an ice storm?  That would be a new and exciting way to play The Game.

I wish I could be this brand of badass fan, but it doesn't work that way for me.  If OSU struggles with PSU it'll be a positive indicator for me.

I took my 11 year old son to…

I took my 11 year old son to the game, and it was an interesting contrast to the Nebraska game which I also took him to last year.  I had been to Memorial before (the game where they broke Denard, right in front of me) but never Kinnick, and I really didn't know what to expect.

Memorial is huge and intimidating.  It was also BY FAR the loudest experience of my entire life, and that includes going to car stereo competitions in Tampa when I was a teenager.  It might have been the fact that we were under the upper deck, but I just could not believe how loud it got.  It was beyond sound...it was like a weight crushing your skull.  I loved the open area down by the field that you can visit throughout the game, but it does move all of the seats that much farther away.  The fans, even as loud as they were, were extremely cordial, and you could tell they took pride in the "nice fan" thing.

Kinnick, on the other hand, was a very attractive stadium too, but seemed quite a bit smaller and not even remotely in the same ballpark when it came to noise.  Maybe it was the 11:00 kick, or the fact that the fans were already expecting to lose and never really had a chance to get into it as the game went on, but it never came close to the intensity of the Nebraska game.  On the minus side, two idiots behind us were both high AND drunk, and spent the entire first half screaming mindless strings of obscenities at Michigan, at the refs, but mostly at the Ferentz family.  It was seriously annoying because it never stopped.  For over an hour.  Several other Iowa fans kept apologizing on their behalf, and a couple sitting two rows in front of us even asked if we wanted to sit down next to them to get away from the two behind us, and we did for the second half.

The crowd whined about the refs non-stop, but that wasn't much different from Nebraska.  I'll also say that the replays shown in the stadium didn't really help to clear up the confusion.  I was convinced that JJ had passed the line of scrimmage on the TD Pass, along all of the Iowa fans, and it wasn't until we got home that I saw it wasn't really even close.

All in all a good experience, but not nearly as intense or thrilling as the Nebraska game last year.  It was fine.  Just like the state of Iowa.

Ace absolutely knows his basketball, but I have to say that this is so much more enjoyable to listen to without him constantly interrupting everyone else.  If I had a vote, it would be for this to be the standard lineup for the podcast, and let Ace do the recaps and the technical articles.

Yes.  We both live in the Topeka area.  There's a contributor to Mgoblog, The Mathlete, who also lives here in town.  There's another user named WichitanWolverine or something like that, so you might want to check them out.  There's also at least one more user with Kansas in their handle.  My dad's an alum and I'm originally from AA but I haven't lived there in almost 40 years.  Maybe if we ever get back to having real games all of us Wheat Staters can get together.  You'd be welcome to join us and I'm a pretty decent bar tender:)

The plan is to invite Ruth…

The plan is to invite Ruth Mahner over like the good old days, but this year we'll be watching the best historic M game from each week of past seasons.  It'll be kind of a "best of" in a week to week chronological order.  I know some weeks are going to be impossible to navigate (so many Notre Dame games in weeks one and two, plus how to pick the best OSU game for the last week of the season?) but I'm guessing youtube availability will cut down the options significantly.  Drinks will be served.  Strong ones.  If you like this idea, feel free to throw out your best shot at a historic dream season schedule!

Excellent!  A KC roster full of former Wolverines makes me very happy.  Go Chiefs!!

I love this idea, but if…

I love this idea, but if UFRs are too tedious, maybe a recap column for each game with a technical breakdown of a few of the key plays?   Either do a whole season like 97 or list the top 25 or 30 games in a poll and let the community decide which 15 get the full treatment.

You know how I feel about…

You know how I feel about the KU situation Ruth, but that doesn't mean I'm not sorry for the disappointment it has caused my friends and family around here.  Well, some of them deserve it, but that's not relevant to you!  Never forget that you're a known friend and trusted agent....always:)

Unfortunately I was there…

Unfortunately I was there too.  We were visiting my parents for Thanksgiving in Charlotte and I had the brilliant idea of taking my dad and my son (he was 5 at the time...his first in-person Michigan game of any kind) since it was relatively close.  My son was so excited, all decked out in maize and blue from head to foot, and I felt absolutely awful as that game unfolded the way that it did, as he continued to cheer for any tiny positive result for Michigan.  Three huge South Carolina fans behind us kept screaming "go do some shit in there!!" which I guess is how they cheer their team on.  My dad threw in the towel with about 4 minutes left, and by then my son looked almost as miserable as I was.  It felt like we lost by 30 points.

Thanks J!

My very novice question is…

My very novice question is about McKeon's role in the 4th and 2 play against State.  If you focus on him for the whole play he sure looks like he's blocking ONLY for a Mason run, and looks surprised when he notices that Patterson has the ball late in the play, not Mason.  If it is truly Patterson's choice, how is McKeon instructed to block for each possibility?  It seems like if he had gotten more leverage on Willekes, he might have either blocked Willekes into Patterson as he started to pull away, or if Willekes happened to see that Patterson had kept the ball, McKeon's blocking would actually be pushing him towards Patterson, helping him make a tackle.  It seems like the best coaching might be to tell McKeon to block and engage Willekes, but just barely, and try to stay out of the way of both potential ball carriers.  It just seems like a very difficult assignment that could go wrong very easily.  Can someone who knows more about this help me out here?

James Joseph Harbaugh.  We

James Joseph Harbaugh.  We drove over to the satellite camp in Blue Springs, MO last summer.  In a totally crafty move, I had my 6 year old daughter draw him a picture as a gift.   When the practice was over, we caught up with him before he left the stadium.  He chatted with us and asked my kids if they liked football and he was very gracious about getting the picture from my daughter.  All I could say was "thank you" as he shook my hand.

I also met Macho Man Randy Savage in the TGIF in the B Concourse of Hartsfield about 15 years ago.  He was with two blondes.   He was much bigger and much more tan than I expected.  Oh yeeeyah.

My dream is to own either a 1963 or 1964 Lincoln Continental convertible.  I've loved these cars since I was a kid.  My grandfather was an engineer for Ford from the time he moved the family from Denmark in 1952 until his retirement in 1985 so I've always had a soft spot for the blue oval.  Some day....

Indeed.  After living in eight states and having driven through most of the major cities in the US at least once, i can say that Topeka drivers are a very special combination of lazy and passive-aggressive that I haven't seen anywhere else.  Most drivers here would curl up and die if they had to fight rush hour in L.A. or Chicago.  A lack of urgency about life in general, and never having to deal with heavy traffic has made them this way, in my opinion.  The trade off?  I never have to sit in rush hour traffic myself anymore.  Which is great.  I'll take it:)
