I assume FYS is F*** You…

I assume FYS is F*** You Sparty. Correct?

Plus, you can have a beer or…

Plus, you can have a beer or two. And, shop the MDen for NC gear! I’ll be there! Probably, my only game this year! Courtesy of my good friend, koklaw! Go Blue!!

We now know that Hotel…

We now know that Hotel Putingrad was actually Jim (or more likely Jay) Harbaugh.

Hard to believe there are…

Hard to believe there are folks out there who have had "the joy sucked out of" them because of JH's dalliances with the NFL.  Are you kidding me?

I am a proud alumnus of the University of Michigan, class of 1976.  Two out of my three daughters are also proud U-M alums.  The four years I attended Michigan, we were undefeated in the regular season against all schools not named Ohio State and 0-3-1 against the Buckeyes even though we outplayed them in all four games.

So, to be able to beat this Ohio State three years in a row after going 1-18 or whatever prior to that, and winning three outright B1G championships in a row, going to three playoffs and winning the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP this year, it doesn't get any better!!

I am not an alumnus of the University of Harbaugh, or Schembechler, or any other coach who temporarily has the honor of coaching my alma mater.  I am a Wolverine.  Which is great to be!!

If Jim leaves, so be it.  You all can mistakenly blame Warde or anyone else, if you want.  The truth is he will leave because he wants to be an NFL coach, not because of anything the University did or did not do.

If he stays, great, though I don't like all the drama, scrutiny, NCAA investigations that go along with him.  If he leaves, OK.  Either way, we will be fine.  They can never take away the last three years from us.  Nothing will ever "suck out" the joy of this.  Ever!!  GO BLUE!!

Now that he in on planet…

Now that he in on planet Earth, Mullings should ditch his Krypton first name and go by Clark.

I agree 100% with Solecismic…

I agree 100% with Solecismic (what does that mean?). These last three seasons have ended my worries about M football forever.

At age 68, it is highly unlikely I will see another NC. Two in my lifetime is frankly more than I ever expected.

With the 12 team playoffs, we have a good shot at being in the playoffs most years. We will continue to dominate the Spartans and will be competitive with OSU. The losing 18/19 days are over.

Looking forward to sitting back, relaxing and enjoying M football for the rest of my cotton pickin’ Maize and Blue days! The nervous wreck days are over forever!

And what a home schedule next year!! Incredible! I believe these are first visits by Texas and USC to the Big House. Life is beautiful!!

I’ve posted this before, but…

I’ve posted this before, but it obviously needs to be mentioned again, because the silly narratives continue.

It’s not Warde. It’s not about JH not feeling wanted. It’s not about M giving him more love. Or more 💰💰! Or agreeing to the ridiculous requests he currently is making.

This is year 3 of this and there are only two irrefutable narratives here. First, JH wants to leave M & be an NFL coach. He would have left in 2022 & 2023 if an NFL offer was made. Second, NO NFL OFFER HAS EVER BEEN MADE SINCE JH LEFT THE 49ERS!

Stop worrying about this. No NFL team is going to offer JH a head coaching position. Three reasons: 1. No owner or GM is going to cede the control JH will demand. 2. Our boy Jim is an odd duck at best and a pain in the ass at worst to deal with from an owner/GM/AD point of view. 3. NFL trend is for young coaches. In their 30’s & 40’s, not 60.

And one more wrong narrative. JH has the leverage. Wrong. Warde & Michigan have the leverage. They can sit back and wait. In the highly unlikely occurrence of JH going to the NFL, no right minded person is going to blame them. If he stays, he’s already under a contract that doesn’t expire for a couple years. They will make him a reasonable extension offer and he will sign it. He’s not going to retire or go to another university.

Relax and wait a couple weeks. Jim and his chickens and Jolly Good Fellow will return  it will be a four peat over the desperate O’Brien/Day led Buckeyes, another B1G championship and a bye in the 12 team playoff. GO BLUE!!

Not defending their actions,…

Not defending their actions, but this is standard procedure when it comes to FOIA requests. As an attorney who has sent these requests, I cannot recall one single case where the respondent quickly and completely replies. They delay, obfuscate, sometimes don’t comply at all.

Ohio State went ten years…

Ohio State went ten years without scoring a TD against us in Columbus! They beat us 14-11 in Columbus in 1972. They didn’t score another TD in Columbus until the 1982 game!

I have the opposite feeling…

I have the opposite feeling. Now that we have accomplished every possible goal, I am going to enjoy next season and all subsequent football seasons. No matter what happens, we have 2023.

Even if we lose Harbaugh, the program will still be one of the nation’s best. Most years, we will be in the 12 team playoff. We should beat OSU about half the time and MSU 8 times out of 10.

A B1G championship means absolutely nothing to me now. It’s an 18 team conglomerate now. And this comes from an old school 1976 alum who was raised on a Big Ten championship meaning everything.

Plus, I will never forgive the conference for what they did to us this year  Also, I suspect we are just a few years away from the end of conferences for college football.

I’m looking forward to years of relatively stress free, enjoyable football seasons  I will still strongly want us to win every game, but will spend very little time and energy worrying about results. This is the best!! GO BLUE!!

I’m not sure why folks are…

I’m not sure why folks are concerned with JH taking assistants with him to the NFL. These aren’t guys who coached with him for years. The important assistants have been there a short time. They don’t have any loyalty to JH. And he’s gone through a ton of assistants in his time here.

These assistants are going to do what’s best for them and it may very well be staying at Michigan. Other than his son, I predict that very few of the assistants will follow JH to the NFL team that hires him.

Ok, I’ve read all these…

Ok, I’ve read all these posts. And thousands over the last three years of this annual JH to NFL saga. The usual storylines are: Warde to blame for no contract, JH wants to be loved, JH not sure what he wants to do, M needs to show JH more love.

All of this is total BS. There are only two important irrefutable narratives here: 1. JH wants to return to the NFL. 2. The NFL doesn’t want him.

The truth is that with all the talk, rumors, discussion, gnashing of teeth, etc., over the last three years, NOT ONE NFL OFFER HAS BEEN MADE. And I don’t think this year will be any different. Our boy Jimmy is an odd duck at best and a pain in the ass at worst for his bosses, either an AD or a GM/owner. And, the trend in the NFL is towards young coaches. In their 30’s & 40’s, not 60.

He’s a great coach and we love him for what he has done here and, even for his quirkiness. He’s not going to get any NFL offers, he’s going to stay here. End of story.

You can send me the $$ you will save on therapist bills. GO BLUE!!

HP, I assume you meant…

HP, I assume you meant something else here. After M gave up 40 to Missouri in game 3 in 1969, Bo’s first year, Michigan didn’t give up more than 23 points in a game until the Wisconsin game to open the 1976 season!

That was over 6 1/2 seasons. 74 games. Hell, in 1972, my freshman year, we only gave up 57 points total in the entire 11 game season!

And both interceptions on passes intended for #18.

Can’t make this shit up! I…

Can’t make this shit up! I miss the B1G West already!

Thank you, Brian. Excellent…

Thank you, Brian. Excellent work.

Only one disagreement: Donovan Edwards is not leaving to go to the NFL. It is a real question as to whether he will be drafted.

Kiper has him as the #9 RB. I checked a number of draft guys and none of them had the Don as a top 5 RB. In a couple seven round mock drafts I found online, he wasn’t drafted.

At best, he will be drafted in the later rounds. I don’t see him leaving M to be drafted late, or in all likelihood, not at all.

Watched Iowa v Nebraska…

Watched Iowa v Nebraska yesterday. Love the guys in the crowd with sweatshirts that said “PUNT.” Very funny.

Also glad that 5-6 Nebraska, Illinois, Florida, Miss St, BYU, Minnesota & South Carolina all lost so JMU & Jax “Rich Rod U” State get bowl games!

I was worried that he was in…

I was worried that he was in over his head. No previous HC experience. Thrown into the fray with games on the road v top 10 PSU & decent Turtles and #2 angry, motivated powerhouse rival. Too much multitasking juggling HC, play caller, OC, & OL coach

Moore was my biggest concern for us going into the game.

So glad I was wrong! Kudos, Coach Moore. You will be a true Michigan legend forever.

Now, we get our coach back and can make a run at our third consecutive B1G title and the National Championship! IT’S GREAT TO BE A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE!!!

GO BLUE!!

You were correct!! He did…

You were correct!! He did outcoach him. Moore as HC was my biggest worry prior to The Game. I’m glad I was wrong!

What are you talking about?…

What are you talking about? I’ve seen those two runs shown hundreds of times in the last year on all sports networks and most of the time, criticism levied against Knowles and Day. The TV sports talking heads have repeatedly reminded us that Knowles changed his entire defensive philosophy this year solely to prevent this from happening again.

You’re right! All fake! Like…

You’re right! All fake! Like the moon landing! LOL

You are incorrect. No…

You are incorrect. No standing is required or proof that they are a third party that could be affected by the decision. You’re getting confused with a party filing to intervene in a case where they weren’t an original party, but they will be directly affected by the court decision.

Amicus briefs are filed all the time by interest groups. For example, if the Michigan Supreme Court were to consider an issue regarding employment law issues, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce could retain a law firm and have them file an amicus brief. And the MAJ, a plaintiff trial attorney organization, could file a brief arguing for the rights of employees. Another prime example are the amicus briefs filed by right to life and pro-choice groups in Dobbs.

The court has complete discretion as to whether or not to consider this brief.  It could be ignored. It could be read and considered as part of the judge’s decision making, but never cited or mentioned in the oral or written decision. It could be cited and/or quoted in the decision.

If I was still in private practice, I would have signed the brief. I also would have reviewed the brief and reached out to the attorneys if I had any suggestions as to form or content. However, since I am now an attorney in the state Attorney General’s office, I cannot just sign on to an outside brief. But, I will be strongly rooting for us on Friday morning. GO BLUE!!

Albany Blue, it appears you…

Albany Blue, it appears you were right and I was wrong. Not the first time, nor will it be the last. Carry on, my friend.

Agreed that it’s not up to…

Agreed that it’s not up to me to decide. Read my original  post. I made a simple suggestion. I didn’t insult anyone or tell anyone what to do. You started the attack.

I’m not going to apologize for my career accomplishments anymore than I will apologize for my M degree. I am proud of both of them. The only reason to mention them is to provide a basis for the expertise I utilized in formulating my opinion.  I’m not interested in opinions for the sake of opinion. I want to know what your level of expertise, either obtained by education or experience, is that are the basis for your opinion.

I will apologize if I inadvertently insulted you. I go out of my way to not lower the bar on this blog.

What I am not an expert at is navigating all of this. I have never been on any form of social media and this is the only blog I read and post on. As my good friend of 51 years, koklaw, always reminds me, this is how it’s done on the internet and don’t “feed the trolls.” I disagree. I am going to continue to try to be reasonable and not engage in lazy tropes or direct character attacks. Go Blue!

It’s amazing to me how folks…

It’s amazing to me how folks fail at reading comprehension. Maynard, my post clearly does not advocate our university do nothing for the time being. It suggests that this blog should table this discussion until later. That’s all. Just a friendly suggestion. But, from the numerous posts here, it’s clear the circle jerk will continue unabated. (Unabated! Listening, Tuck?)

Michigan will not be taking any steps to leave the B1G in the next few weeks. So, as a group here, we don’t need to continue to state and restate and restate and restate the same tired arguments. I guess it makes everyone feel better. When you are totally helpless and at the mercy of one judge making one decision, I guess you make yourself feel better by saying over and over again we should leave the B1G.

And, spare me the silly argument that we should use this as leverage. Typical laypeople thinking. As a litigation attorney who has tried or resolved thousands of contested cases, I can tell you that there is nothing more indicative of a weak position than threatening something the other side knows you will never follow through on. Michigan and their lawyers are smart enough not to utilize the threat of leaving the B1G since, unless you’re willing to do it now, it’s an empty position.

But, have at it! Keeps everyone happy while we stress out for the next five days!

Always good to hear from you…

Always good to hear from you, NL! Didn’t know you were a Lions fan! Sure seemed like there were a lot of Lions fans there. Even early in the game, you could hear on TV big cheers for positive Lions plays and negative Chargers plays. And, of course, we could clearly hear the now mandatory road game cheers of Let’s Go Lions!

What you missed by not watching on TV: Tony Romo ❤️🦁!! He thinks we are among the top 2-3 NFC teams and a good bet to be in the Super Bowl this year!

One can only dream…..

I upvoted you because I…

I upvoted you because I agree with your basic premise. I also don’t like to neg just because a topic has already been previously discussed.

HOWEVER, Albany Blue, this topic really has been beaten to death. And, I read your analysis a few times to perhaps find new arguments but, alas, there were none. Just a rehashing of the same points that have been reiterated numerous times by our fellow mgobloggers

I would prefer it if we were to completely table this discussion until after the season. There will be so much more that will have occurred on and off the field that will give us additional information to consider. We can then take a fresh look at this topic.

Just a friendly suggestion from a kindred spirit who can’t fall asleep so he is watching a DVR of the YSU hoops game and trying to decipher who half these guys are that play for our basketball team. Have a good night/morning.

Our players and coaches are…

Our players and coaches are to be admired and are saying the right things and wholeheartedly believe in what they say.

However, what has occurred in the last few weeks, especially late Friday and Saturday morning, took its toll. We have all been in spots in our life where we are falsely accused and know our accusers are wrong, but it still hurts and drains you. Ask someone who went through a divorce or custody battle and listened in open court to false allegations against them involving their children.

I went through it. Even when you’re right, it has a powerfully negative effect on you. In my case, the judge and many of the lawyers sitting in the courtroom waiting for their cases to be called on motion day knew me. They heard what was said about me. Even though I trusted that they knew me well enough to not believe what was said, it was humiliating and took its toll.

That was a handful of people. Imagine the Michigan players and coaches. Even if they knew they were in the right and were being unfairly accused, they also knew the whole world was hearing it and that included their family, friends, the players and coaches they played with, for or against in high school and college. it had to be gut wrenching for them. It is truly astonishing they were able to accomplish what they did on Saturday. If this had not happened at all, I’m confident that would have been a three score minimum beat down of Penn State.

This injunction decision is crucial. We need Harbaugh back on the sidelines and closure on this. If we lose in court on Friday, I don’t know if it can be reasonably expected that our players and coaches, without Harbaugh, and with an apparent validation of the B1G action by a judge, can overcome this going forward for the next two games. If they were able to do so, it would be one of the greatest accomplishments in the history of team sports.

For the sake of our players and coaches and for the sake of true justice, I hope and pray this judge makes the correct call. GO BLUE!!

Attorney here. The B1G…

Attorney here. The B1G retaining an attorney, who filed an appearance, would not by itself be a reason for the TRO not being granted.

Also, judges hear cases all the time involving the universities they attended. And many judges are part time instructors at law schools. Neither are a reason for recusal.

Also, why do posters continue to refer to the Judge as a she? The Bacon post that the case had been changed from Tim Connors to a female judge was incorrect. Tim Connors is the judge. You can go onto the Washtenaw Circuit Court website and look at the case record.

I haven’t been able to get ahold of the 200+ page filing yet, but I plan on doing so and reading it. I suspect that most of the pages are attached exhibits. if I think I have a good handle on what will happen based upon my review, I will post it on this blog.

In the meantime, it’s going to be a long and stressful week. We really need Harbaugh back, especially against Ohio State. GO BLUE!!

One of the responses…

One of the responses referred to the judge as “she.” I thought the judge was Tim Connors.

As an attorney who doesn’t…

As an attorney who doesn’t practice in Washtenaw County, I have a question for the attorneys who do: Does the Court have cameras in the courtroom, like other nearby Circuit Courts?

Editors normally write the…

Editors normally write the headlines, not the writer of the article.

I hate to burst you and the…

I hate to burst you and the other poster’s bubbles, but Kennedy didn’t outwit Khrushchev. USSR let it be known, through back channels, that they would withdraw from Cuba if we removed our missiles from Turkey that could reach the Soviet Union as easily as theirs could reach the USA from Cuba.  We agreed, but only on the condition it wouldn’t be announced publicly and we would do it quietly a few months later, which we did.

I took a Pol Sci class at U-M in 1971 where we did an entire role playing of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Taught by a former advisor of the JFK/LBJ administrations. The Michigan Difference.

If Jim wants to go full Bo…

If Jim wants to go full Bo…Cottage Inn or Pizza House to the rescue!!

So, all of the posters (I…

So, all of the posters (I wasn’t one of them, BTW) that everyone insulted, called trolls, downvoted, were right. And all of our so called experts, insiders, etc were wrong.

And, in the end, the scum won. And, anyone who believes that not having Harbaugh on the sidelines for this game is not a huge disadvantage for us is misguided and naive.

College athletics, football in particular, is a disgrace.

F the SEC.

I like being an…

F the SEC.

I like being an independent. The whole conference model is outdated. And, with 12 teams in the playoffs, we can compete for an NC as an independent.

All the traditional regional conferences are gone. Winning a conference championship in these gigantic conferences will be next to impossible and have no meaning. When I was in school in the 70’s, winning the Big 10 meant everything. Now, I don’t even recognize the conference. Playing schools on both coasts? Gimme a break.

And, we can go the Texas route and have our own network. Play a not too tough schedule, win 11-12 games a year and we’re in the playoffs. Love this idea!!

I was a sophomore at…

I was a sophomore at Michigan in 1973. The 10-10 tie was my first M OSU game. Tonight, I am the angriest I’ve been over anything related to M sports since the infamous AD vote in 1973.

They are very different, though. Even though we vociferously disagreed with the vote, it was completely within the rules. The Big 10 had a no repeat rule from 1949-1972 re: The Rose Bowl. So, even if you won the outright Big 10 championship, you couldn’t go to the Rose Bowl if you went the year before.

The Pac 8 had no such rule. They sent their conference champion every year. After the Big 10 dominated the Rose Bowl throughout the 1950’s & early 1960’s, the Pac 8 began to dominate and the Big 10 didn’t like that.

Favored Michigan was upset in the 1970 & 1972 Rose Bowls. Likewise, favored Ohio State was upset in the 1971 Rose Bowl. USC totally destroyed OSU in the 1973 Rose Bowl, but that wasn’t a surprise. The #1 12-0 1972 Trojans are considered by many to be the greatest college football team of all time.

After M & OSU tied in 1973, under the old repeat rule, M would have gone to the Rose Bowl. M also had the overall best record, since, OSU, in an effort to deemphasize football (more about this later), played one less game. They were 9-0-1 & M was 10-0-1.

But there was no tiebreaker formula. Since they tied in the Big 10 standings, it went to a vote of the athletic directors. They voted 6-4 to send Ohio State to the Rose Bowl, including the infamous OSU vote by MSU AD Burt Smith (yes, we still remember that asshole’s name).

The alleged rationale was that our star QB Dennis Franklin had allegedly broke his collarbone in the OSU game and would not be able to play in the Rose Bowl and therefore, OSU gave the Big 10 a better chance of winning, which they did in convincing fashion. Turned out the reasoning was faulty, since Franklin recovered and could have played in the Rose Bowl.

So, there are two big differences in these 1973 & 2023 Big 10 screwings of M. One was clearly within the rules, while this one is not. So, in that sense, what is going on now is worse.

However, the result of 1973 was much worse, because that vote ended Michigan’s season. That group of exemplary players were to finish 30-2-1 from 1972-4 and never go to a bowl game. A grave injustice.

This year, as unjust as the process has been, with the B1G not following their own rules, Michigan can still move forward and play potentially six more games and win the B1G and national championship.

Very disappointed in The…

Very disappointed in The Athletic. A few years ago, they were a welcome oasis in a desert of lazy, incompetent sports “reporting/journalism.” Many of the top sports writers left their newspapers and magazines and joined The Athletic. They published long, well researched and interesting articles. It was a refreshing return to the type of sports journalism that existed years ago in SI, Sport, and many top newspapers. I was happy to subscribe.

Then, the inevitable purchase by an established media giant and it has been all downhill. Even before this latest debacle, the quality and content had taken a downturn. Instead of looking forward to reading it every day, I was scanning it a couple times a week.

Once my current annual deal lapses, $1.99/month, I will be cancelling. It’s too bad. And, I liked Nicole Auerbach. I believe she’s a U-M alum, but I believe Drew Sharp was, also. Go figure. Nicole has been horrible in the last few weeks. She should be ashamed of herself.

Oh, well. As usual, all good things come to an end.  Years ago, I stopped watching or reading any ESPN content other than the games they broadcast. Same with the Freep. I guess I’m down to The Detroit News & mgoblog!!

I posted this last week in…

I posted this last week in response to a post claiming B1G teams didn’t do this back in the olden days.

BTW, MSU beat Ohio State in 1971, 1972 & 1974. In 1972 & 1974, it was the only regular season loss for the Buckeyes. They were ranked #1 in 1974 when they lost to MSU.

Woody was not happy and got his revenge.

Daft, my U-M daughters got…

Daft, my U-M daughters got me those shoes for my birthday in 2018. September 8 is my birthday and we all went to the WMU game that day. Wonderful time inside both the Big House during the game and inside the Wolverine Little House before and after the game.

I only have worn the shoes to U-M games I have attended in different sports and only indoors or in dry outdoor conditions. This includes M football, basketball, hockey, baseball, softball and tennis. Therefore, my pair are in excellent condition.

These new shoes are awesome! I’m not concerned about the durability since I will use the same rules as to wearing them. Question: where can we purchase these?

BTW, this brings back fond memories of the now banned guy who used to update us on new clothing items. Was that WD?

I’m sitting in a Troy bar…

I’m sitting in a Troy bar enjoying Happy Hour when I saw this post. I looked up and I hit big on Keno and on another screen is JH’s favorite jurist, Judge Judy!! Coincidence? I think not!

Idea: Let Judge Judy decide this! This is on par with what she usually decides!

News flash: I just checked…

News flash: I just checked the ESPN app & they have the CMU story and some story about M & Ric Flair. But not this story. What a surprise!!

Penn State wasn’t that close. They tacked on a meaningless TD at the end.

Maybe Barnett was smiling after the postgame handshake because JH told him he’d hire him as an assistant after he gets canned by MSU.

Or, maybe he had gas.

From The Athletic article:

From The Athletic article:

According to a source briefed on those conversations, upon learning of the pending investigation, Michigan State initially warned the Big Ten it might consider not playing Saturday’s game out of concern for health and safety for its players. On Thursday morning, MSU confirmed it will indeed play the game.

Too funny!! Can’t make this shit up.

What is wrong with this…

What is wrong with this board? Why does this post have a negative vote? This is the best summary I’ve read yet on this topic. The local yokels at the Detroit papers are obligated to have a list of ridiculous candidates, to get the Spartan faithful clicks.

This is good content that I, for one, would never have seen otherwise. And I don’t think it’s OT. The head coach of our second most important football rival is important and relevant to Michigan football.

Thanks, Amazinblu. Appreciated. I upvoted!
