First off, it was not a prediction, but a wishin' and a hopin'.

Second, since when does a signed contract in college sports mean a coach won't jump?  Big questions are (i) how much is the buyout penalty for leaving early and (i) are there any teams named in a carve-out from the buyout penalty.

There's no downside to quietly inquiring.

My name to toss into the ring - Greg McDermott of Creighton.  He's 59 and been at Creighton since  2010.  It's time for him to move on from a 5,000 student Jesuit school into the real big time.  Great coach with a great record.

Bachelor's Day, sometimes known as Ladies' Privilege, is an Irish tradition by which women are allowed to propose to men on Leap Day, 29 February, based on a legend of Saint Bridget and Saint Patrick. It once had legal basis in Scotland and England.

What exactly is our NIL policy?

IMHO uncontrolled and unregulated NIL and Transfer Portal are the two biggest issues facing college football.

To my mind the NCAA has two…

To my mind the NCAA has two major issues that they are failing to address: (i) the misuse of NIL as a recruiting tool and (ii) the wide-open, totally unregulated transfer portal.  Yet they continue to screw around with these really minor issues.

Thinking of Nero fiddling while Rome burns down and please don't lecture me on the historical inaccuracy of that statement.

When I was in my 1st year of high school, I had the chance to attend his speech at Grosse Pointe South HIgh School in May of 1968 with my parents who both attended.  I passed.  What can I say, I was young and stupid.

One of the major regrets in my life.

We all have our own memories…

We all have our own memories...

My 1st memory of a great M victory was the 1965 Rose Bowl, played on January 1, 1965, the 51st Rose Bowl Game. The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Oregon State Beavers by a score of 34–7, watching it on a black & white tv. I thought Bob Timberlake was a GREAT QB.  I was 11.

Biggest Memory of a great M victory was the 1969 victory over the unbeaten (for 2 years) Ohio State Buckeyes, also on a black & white tv.  I was 15.

Hold on, I have to yell at some kids running across my lawn...

We clearly got away with one with the no-call on the "running into the punter" in the 1st quarter.

NIL and the Transfer Portal…

NIL and the Transfer Portal are a complete unregulated mess and they are still screwing around with this stuff?

Call me an oldster, but I am not a fan of sporting events on December 25th.  Can't we go 1 day without televised sports?  Not just for the fans but for the players and their families.

1969 I watched The Game in my bedroom on a 14" B&W tv.  I was 15 and a sophomore in high school.  Family was downstairs watching something on our one color tv.  I was going crazy with excitement.  That game made the decision for me to apply to and attend U of M when my senior year came around.  Graduated in Class of 1975.  No idea how many games I have attended in person, but it has been a lot.

Never could get any of my children to attend M for undergrad but I did have one attend med school.

I keep thinking about the rush to judgment in the Duke lacrosse case, where lives and careers were ruined, following which the accuser recanted her claims.  The whole case was tried in the media and the players and the coach were found guilty without due process.

Not a Michigan player but…

Not a Michigan player but when I was in 7th grade, I was trying out for my grade school football team. We were doing the drill where there were two lines, one the runners and one the tacklers.  When it was my turn to tackle, I looked at the other end of the lineup and the runner was Mike Varty who was in 8th grade and later played linebacker for Northwestern and the Washington Redskins.  Even in 8th grade Mike was a BIG guy.  I was tall but carried no weight.  I tackled him just above the knees as taught and I have always been proud that he only dragged my ass for about 10-12 yards. I ached for a week and didn't make the team.

Michigan related - Dennis Franklin was in my 1st year accounting class.

Few people understand that…

Few people understand that the point of a betting line is to get even money on both sides.  The bookie is not predicting results, just trying to establish a number that will even out the bets, so, in reality, the line is established by the betting public, 50%+ of whom are wrong.  Las Vegas casinos were not built on large payouts to gamblers.

When my D was a rising high…

When my D was a rising high school senior she went to two out-of-town summer soccer camps.  Enjoyed both, air travelled on her own, really enjoyed the overall experience.  She wanted to see how she stood against other players.  At the end of both camps in her one-on-one review with the head coach, both told her she would never play D-I soccer but that she could play and start on any D-III team she wanted.  They both offered to write letters of recommendation for her.

She ended up going to an Ivy and played on the women's club rugby team, ending up as captain and club president.  Never looked back.  Now an MD.

In my experience with a wide variety of high school sports, you can spot a D-I player in a minute and there are VERY few of them.  Most parents never figure that out.

On more time...

Could this have been an M internal investigation that was leaked?  That would explain the access to the M computer systems, etc.  Hear me out for a minute.

1. Someone at M had a concern that Stalions had left the reservation (i.e. a wack job) and started wondering what the heck he was doing and how he was doing it.  They dug into it a bit and became concerned in a major way.  They presented their concerns to higher ups.

2. Based on the internal presentation of those concerns, M hired an outside firm to conduct an internal investigation.  That firm was provided access to the M computer system and employees.

3. Someone leaked the results of that investigation.

I just have a feeling that there is a whole other side to this matter that no one but the powers that be at M knows and they are holding onto their info until presented with an actual notice of investigation by either the NCAA of the B1G.  There could be fear of litigation by Stalions related to his employment status.

I keep wondering if the investigation (with access to M computers) that was leaked was an internal investigation into the activities of Conor Stalions.  He seems to have slipped his mooring. Perhaps someone on the inside was concerned about this guy's activities.

After all the best-known person associated with M that wrote a "Manifesto" was Ted Kaczynski.

Do teams not change their code, or at least the key to the code, from game to game?

A couple of comments:

A couple of comments:

1.  Stealing signals is NOT illegal in and of itself.

2.  Teams are not using the Enigma machine to encode and decode their signals.  These by definition are simple codes - plays are called by the OC, transmitted to the sideline code guys and signaled in to the QB who then decodes them and calls the play, all of this in seconds.  You don't need Alan Turing to break these codes.  I would think they could be broken in a matter of minutes if teams had a dedicated analyst to work on them.

There is a reason every sideline coach covers hit mouth when speaking - just where are all the lipreaders hidden.
