Can you share the frames you bought?

Sounds good. I wasn't sure…

Sounds good. I wasn't sure if there was some licensing deal through the third-party website.

Alabama gets the benefit of…

Alabama gets the benefit of the doubt with their track record of success.  Again, I think you’re being disingenuous.

Okay great, we were competitive with OSU 1 out 4 years.

What big win did we have? We beat terrible Wisconsin and MSU teams and an okay PSU team.  Not sure that makes us signature.

Great that you believe that and that Jim will adjust offensive philosophies.  I’ll believe I’m magic and adjustments when I see it.

Alabama’s offense looks vastly different than ours other than liking to run the ball. Their run concepts are night and day different.

Clemson also wasn’t in great shape before Dabo took over for Bowden.  Look up the history.   And prove it that he’s cheating.

Lastly, I don’t want Harbaugh fired.  I just don’t have pie in the sky expectations.  Since the end of the world war 2, we’ve been a very mediocre program who has a couple of good seasons, who can’t win the big game.  1997 was a flash in the pan.  We’re not elite and we’re likely never going to be.  I still think we should at least beat OSU or play in the Big Ten Title game by sheer luck once in a while, but I don’t have real expectations of us making the playoffs or winning it all, and that’s okay with me.  It’s right in line with the last 80 years of history.

I’ve always thought the Dabo…

I’ve always thought the Dabo comparisons weren’t applicable.  Dabo took over as a mediocre team/program whose head coach bailed on them (or fired I can’t remember) and had no previous head coaching experience.  Harbaugh’s resume coming in as Michigan’s coach was much better.  I’m not expecting NCs in year 4, but beating OSU, playing in a conference title game, not having embarrassing meltdowns on national tv, adjusting offensive philosophies? Yea, I don’t think I’m wrong for expecting that.

1) Which is why both of us…

1) Which is why both of us said it’s probably a negligence case and not a med mal case because it didn’t involve medical decision making.  If the hospital drops grandma and she breaks a hip they can still be sued under negligence theories.  And you (the practice) are still responsible for the actions and negligence of your employees.  It would probably still be covered under the practices general liability policy or under the malpractice policy’s rider.

2) Medical bills are in reference to the charges she would incur seeking treatment for the injury she sustained, not for the testing he was originally doing.  Learn to read.

3) Not my decision to make.

4) Every profession has malpractice insurance.  I have malpractice insurance, dentists do too, and so do accountants.  You have malpractice insurance because it’s smart and cheaper to pool the risk.  But hey if you want to pay out multimillion judgments or settlements out of your own pocket, good for you.  I personally think that’s stupid, but you do you.

Bad outcomes are sometimes people’s fault.

It’s called NFL teams are…

It’s called NFL teams are private enterprises and can decide the minimum requirements they want for their employees.

Not to mention the fact that…

Not to mention the fact that you don’t need to “prove” those types of injuries to bring a case unless your mom’s state has some really whacky laws.  It just means the case is worth less.  Obviously the fact that your mother is likely elderly and not working is going to impact the value of any case since there’s no economic damages to speak of (other than out of pocket medical costs).  Some attorneys certainly won’t touch cases that don’t have significant injuries, but others will.

Again, consult an attorney where your mom lives.  It’ll cost an hour or two.

Interesting thought — is a…

Interesting thought — is a playbook a trade secret? I wonder if that’s ever been litigated.  Just because something is open to the public doesn’t mean it’s not protected (at least under Michigan law).  For instance, the final advertised price isn’t protected, but your in-house methodology to get there is.

What are you talking about?…

What are you talking about? Any attorney taking this type of case would be handling it on a contingency basis.  Other than time, there’s no real cost.

Also, the rest of the post is terrible advice.  What’s long-lasting or permanent? A fracture heals and is of course not permanent — does that mean if I get hit by a car on my bike and I break my leg, I shouldn’t sue?

Again, if you’re an attorney on this site and your advice to the OP isn’t consult an attorney in your mom’s jurisdiction, you’re committing malpractice.

Not a med mal lawyer either…

Not a med mal lawyer either but it seems like it would fall in the area of ordinary negligence not a med mal case.  This of course is highly dependent on the state where OP’s mother resides.  Injuries can also manifest themselves later on, so just because there isn’t something now doesn’t mean it can’t develop later.

If all she has is some bruising, a sternly worded letter from a lawyer might get them to pay up for her bills and maybe some nominal amount so you don’t sue later.

Basically, consult an attorney in your jurisdiction.

It doesn’t really matter. …

It doesn’t really matter.  If they want him bad enough, they can just pay the penalties and deal with the lawsuit.  I’d be hard pressed to see a judge issue an injunction or restraining order preventing Washington from going to OSU.  Not to mention, the athletic department would absolutely ruin its ability to recruit coaching talent if they handled the situation like this.

No it isn’t.  You don’t own…

No it isn’t.  You don’t own these kids and they don’t owe you or anyone else anything.  This game is a glorified money grab for the tv networks. Drop the thinly veiled “culture” crap.  Let me know when you criticize our culture after companies announce thousands of layoffs before the holidays.  Or when other people in our society make decisions motivated by their ability to make millions of dollars.  Or does your outrage only apply to the decisions of a select few?

So a lot of this has me

So a lot of this has me thinking.  As someone who was very young when all of this went down, the only knowledge I have of the situation is what I read.  So when I read things like "railroading" and "anti-athletics administration" it gets me thinking.

First of all, as it pertains to the anti-athletics administration, during the time period that Duderstadt was President, Michigan won a basketball, hockey, and football NC, went to 2 additional final fours, and produced 2 Heisman winners.  Maybe the adminstration didn't want athletics to be the face of the University, but I doubt that all the aforementoned occur, in addition to other successes, without institutional support.  The question of the proper place and role of athletics in an elite public research University like Michigan is something I find myself grappling with a lot lately.  Why is it that I'm more familiar with the coaches and players of LSU and Alabama than I am of the Presidents of Harvard and Stanford? When did college sports become something that was supposed to be for the entertainment of the University community and as recreation for student-athletes (i.e. athletes that would be admitted to the University regardless of academic merit [maybe kids on the edge get a bump, but the practice of accepting kids who otherwise would have zero chance of getting into these institutions because they can play sports is troubling]).

So as far as Mo getting "railroaded" this my understanding of the situation.  If I'm wrong, please educate me.  But this is not Gary Pinkell getting a DWI or a routine DWI where Mo blew a .09 and he had to be made to apologize and could have gotten a suspension and all would have been okay.  And I highly doubt he would survive it today with the news cycle, blogs, etc.

So here's the best account of the events that I've read and relied on:

http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19950503&slug=…

So you have Moeller 8 drinks deep, screaming curse words about his wife, getting into a physical altercation with cops, who seem to have given him every chance to go home, assaulting the manager and other patrons trying to diffuse the situation, resisted arrest, and had to be taken to the hospital for fear of alcohol poisoning.

By all accounts, I've heard rumors that he had recently found out that his wife had an affair with Les Miles, and that was what set this whole mess off.  I'm sure the stress of the seasons and pressures got to him, but as I had always understood this situation, it was related to his wife (hence the epiphets he was screaming about her).

So where is this revisionist history of him getting railroaded come from? It's not like he came to the administration and said "Hey guys, I have a problem, I want some time off to get treatment or I'm going to take care of this during the offseason" and they took the opportunity to say "Aha, prefect excuse to can this underachiever".  This was a very embarassing situation for the University -- an academically elite public research University at that, and this guy is presumably the most public figure associated with the University.  More people nationwide could have told you who Moeller was before they could name the President of the Michigan at the time.  So with all that, how do you keep him on?

I'm not trying to make him out to be some monster who should have been banished to the cellar forever or have been tarred and feathered down State Street.  He made a mistake, but that doesn't mean the mistake shouldn't have consequences, especially consideirng his job, a privilege at that, considering the unique position of athletics in American universitites, made it all the more damaging.  Can people really say that after this incident, Moeller should have been kept on considering the public nature of the position and the values the University supposedly embodies?

All this stuff lately really has me rethinking the position athletics holds at universities and the general comments I've been reading surrounding Schlissel being fired if he doesn't place athletics higher or de-emphasizes it, anti-athletics administrations, etc. I don't know.

also if that were to happen

also if that were to happen today, there'd be cell phone footage, high-res security footage, and numerous 24/7 media outlets that would have not let this die down. If anything it would be worse today.

Dude there's a difference

Dude there's a difference between a that and what happened with Mo. It wasn't a routine DWI that was .1 over. He got into a physical altercation with the cops.

If you're going to have

If you're going to have football coaches be the most recognizable face of your University, they need to be held to extremely high standards.  Here are the details of the incident:

http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19950503&slug=…

He put his hands on cops.  I empathize with the guy but I don't get how you can have him as the most visible face of your institution following those details.

What kind of stood out to me also was his $130K salary.  Holy shit, how times have changed 19 years later.

Is this supposed to be a

Is this supposed to be a coherent thought?

Quick Harbaugh

Quick Harbaugh question:

People here keep mentionng how Jack Harbaugh has been saying if offered JH would take the job.  Can someone point me to that thread? I've googled and used the custom site search and I can't find what people seem to be referring to.

It's an hour and a half

It's an hour and a half flight from SF to SD.

Well just like people think

Well just like people think Harbaugh to Michigan is a foregone conclusion because of the connection.  Harbaugh to the Dolphins because of the Ross connection is also a possiblity.  Philbin isn't anything special, not a bad coach but if you have a chance to go get one of the best coaches in the NFL, you thank the current guy and give him a nice gold watch on his way out.

Ramzy forever earned my

Ramzy forever earned my respect with this

we came here to play

we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL

Fuck Tom Crean.

Some of these comments about

Some of these comments about runnng Schlissel out over athletics are...well frightening.  Did anyone here come to play school? If he's doing a great job otherwise and he feels that big time sports have become too large such that they are overshadowing the larger mission of the University and need to be de-emphasized...well I can't say I disagree with him.

Pete Carroll went back to

Pete Carroll went back to college because he got fired from his two previous NFL coaching gigs and couldn't get an NFL job or at least one he wanted. They are totally different.

Ya, I guess my point was that

Ya, I guess my point was that there won't be a shortage of NFL teams lining up to get him.

Or Ross saves his pennies and

Or Ross saves his pennies and gives Harbaugh the money to coach the Dolphins.  If he's not with the 49ers, off the top of my head, the Raiders and the Dolphins would be enticing jobs to him.  Raiders for his wife, mostly wanting to stay in the Bay Area.  I have zero doubt in my mind that Jerry Jones would kick Jason Garret to the curb if he could land Harbaugh.  A lot of NFL teams will be vying for his services.

In regards to that, if the

In regards to that, if the Ray Rice suspsension is overturned, they can still drop him and he'll be someone else's problem or no one else's problem.

Again, they'll both have NFL teams lining up.  I think the circumstance of Jim losing to his brother and not having a SB make it more likely that he won't be the HC hear.

Successful NFL coaches don't leave in the prime of their career's to coach college.

I guess I did.  Wanna point

I guess I did.  Wanna point me in its direction? The only thing that turns up on Google when for "jack harbaugh heartbeat" is hospitalization for an irregular one.

I mean even if he's not back

I mean even if he's not back with the 49ers, he'll have NFL teams lining up around the corner to get him.  I just don't get why people think he or his brother would leave the NFL to come to college?

There is literally not a single example of an NFL coach with as much success as the Harbaugh brothers have individually voluntairly leaving the NFL to coach college.

Bill Walsh was retired for a couple of years and bored with life so he went back to Stanford.  Jim Mora Jr. and Pete Carroll were both fired twice each before going to college.  John Harbaugh has a SB win and is at the peak of his career.  Jim Harbaugh is a firebred competitor who wants a Super Bowl, especially after he lost to his brother.  I really don't think he's going to willingly leave the NFL.

What's the point of this

What's the point of this comment? Are you suggesting making a bowl at 6 wins should be enough to save Hoke's job?

Mattison is overrated and

Mattison is overrated and continues to get a pass around here. He needs to go. I'm not convinced Nuss is bad his recent track record is good but I wouldn't be opposed depending on his replacement.

If OSU isn't on probation

If OSU isn't on probation they make it over ND into the NC game. Who knows what happens then.

Ya I'll take a mediocre QB

Ya I'll take a mediocre QB over a piece of shit like Winston 7 days a week. I'm not someone who thinks Michigan needs alter boys, but I'd rather go 0-12 than win with Winston. Dudes trash.

Bill Walsh went back to

Bill Walsh went back to college coaching out of boredom. Likewise, Pete Carroll and Jim Mora Jr. we're both previously fired twice from NFL gigs and went to college. Someone like the Harbaugh brothers has never left the NFL in their prime with the success they've had to voluntarily go coach college.

WVU while a good program

WVU while a good program historically isn't say a destination job. OU is and Stoops is a god down there. He literally has zero reason to leave.

Maybe someone could coax

Maybe someone could coax Suppier up north? Now that'd be great.

I didn't read the article.

I didn't read the article.  It was more in reference to the general dong punch/Stone Cold Stunner feeling (I didn't wanna search dong punch at work) that accompanied this article and that seems to be the norm lately.

How I Feel

Interesting question: Making

Interesting question: Making a bowl means we won't fire Hoke for at least a month or so if not more after the OSU game.  Would you a) prefer a bowl or b) getting the coach you want in there sooner rather than later?

Are you fucking delusional or

Are you fucking delusional or something? The man literally gets thousands of emails per day and is running one of the largest research universities in the world in addition to teaching and you're surprised that he doesn't have the time to respond to every nitwit that fires off an email?

I don't really get the point

I don't really get the point of that comment.  How did Bullough abandon his team? He got suspended for a being a dumbass but I don't think he was doing it to screw over his teammates and his Spartan legacy.  The Bulloughs are a big MSU family and he had a chance to be part of one of the more special MSU seasons in recent memory.  I just don't get how it makes sense, especially consdering our kicker's "family issue" that got him kicked off the team before the bowl, Stonum's DUI problems that got him kicked out, Cissoko's insanity, etc.

Good start to his ROY

Good start to his ROY campaign.
