Well this timely. I injured my ankle for first time in my life about 4 weeks ago. Like you, I self-diagnosed after researching online. About a week after the incident and some further reading, I scheduled an appointment with an orthopedist. Turns out the ankle-roll pulled a ligament with enough force to fracture my fibula, the non weight bearing bone in lower leg. Been in a boot since and bone showed signs of healing on follow-up x-ray. Have an MRI this week because doctor feels there may be some cartilage damage that needs to get cleaned up.
Thanks for crafting this thoughtful and beautifully written piece. Few get the chance to meet and know Coach, but you have confirmed that he is exactly the guy we have always hoped he is.
Hope we’ll get to read a similar piece about Coach Moore someday.
And Mel was already complaining about how hard it is to field a competitive team in this new age of college football. I can only imagine how awkward it would be for him to tell a recruit’s mother that he’s going to take good care of their son and that Michigan State football has a great culture for molding boys into good men.
Sending good thoughts to you and your family, wishing your son a safe, speedy recovery.
Family always first. And I received my hard copy of Hail to the Victors a couple of days ago, so thanks to you I’ve got plenty of great content to get ready for the season.
For those who didn't listen live, Brian joins late, around the 23:30 mark and is spitting hot fire. I think he says what a lot of college football fans have been feeling for a long, long time.
Money has always been a part of college football, but now they're making no pretense of hiding that. Tradition and creating the best product possible for fans is of little to no consequence unless it aligns with maximizing profits.
FWIW, Steve Wiltfong published an article ($) today on remaining unsigned 2023 recruits. Bottom line: he believes Maryland leads for Harbor with Oregon making a strong, late push. Maryland’s track coach, Andrew Valmon, won a couple gold medals and was head coach of Olympic track team in 2012.
In better news, he thinks we’ve got a real shot at flipping Stanford DL commit Cameron Brandt.
Taking my daughters to Fiesta Bowl and need 3 tickets in lower section (100s), ideally between the 20s on Michigan side, but other sideline or end zones also work.
Reply here if you have 3 for sale or a solid lead. Thanks!
The hilarious, but likely deleted thread about "not safe for <some MGB user's> wife" I can't remember that user's handle, but do remember the GIF of Katy Perry in the Elmo t-shirt
Love Talented Mr Ripley. Phenomenal movie: great cast, gripping storytelling, and so many beautiful locations where they shot the film in Italy, arguably the true star of this film.
I remember the Peppers line (from a story about his recruitment):
"Real recognize real," Peppers said in the story of his visit with Michigan coaches. "That's the shortest and sweetest way you can say it. Real recognize real. They didn't put on a show. Basically who they are — they remind me of my coaches right now. That's how comfortable we felt there."
Thank you BiSB for giving the UM Women's Gymnastics team such well-deserved front-page coverage. This goes down as one of the greatest UM sports stories of all time. Absolutely nuts that all three of these women executed near perfectly in serial with everything on the line. Brava!!
I've owned quite a few different mattresses over the years. Used to buy them from bricks-and-mortar stores, spent a lot of money, and kept them too long. But with the proliferation of new companies selling relatively affordable mattresses online, I cycle through them more often now, for few things matter more than getting a good night's sleep.
As far as recommendations, that's a very personal thing as no one mattress is right for everyone. The hard part is the mattress industry is a racket with most "reviews" paid for by mattress companies. Going to a store to test a mattress is helpful, but as you discovered, what feels comfortable lying on for 10 minutes at a store may feel a lot different after a night or after a few months. I highly recommend finding a mattress with a trial period. That way you can return the mattress, often at no cost, if it doesn't work out.
I used to sleep on spring mattresses back in the day--the best one was a Shifman that was pretty expensive--but then tried a few different latex mattresses, one from Bear was most comfortable. The last couple I have owned have been hybrid which combine the best of latex and innerspring. My current mattress is a Wink bed and I would highly recommend you check them out. They have excellent reviews and are constructed very well. They are a bit more expensive than the average online mattress but often go on sale. https://www.winkbeds.com/
Best of luck in finding the right mattress for you.
Previous posters have already covered most of my all-time favorites, so I’ll add one I haven’t seen listed here yet:
Scrubs: Great writing, fantastic soundtrack. Classified as a comedy but delivers some huge emotional punches along the way. Solid character development and an ensemble of mostly lesser known actors including my fave, John McGinley, who portrays Dr. Cox. His performance in season 3 ep 14 “My Screw Up” featuring guest star, Brendan Fraser, is heartbreaking.
Scrubs streams on Hulu. Check it out. No better time than now.
As John Wooden said, "Winning breeds winning" and those top programs have created a culture where winning is expected. Program under Harbaugh has made strides since RR and Hoke, but we are not there yet.
Note Wooden was also a notoriously dirty recruiter, so that, too.
According to this NFL.com story, he has no desire to coach. Says he doesn't have the patience for it. Perhaps he has changed his mind, but I would not count on seeing him coaching on the sidelines at Michigan or anywhere else.
Bought a 65” LG OLED late 2017. More expensive than most, even other 4K TVs, but easily the best TV I’ve ever owned. The picture quality on 4K content like Planet Earth II and similar is jaw-dropping. Have had no issues with the set and highly recommend.
More and more 4K content available every day, and almost everything recently created. Netflix, Amazon, YouTube are great sources I use. And IIRC even FIOS has some 4K titles On Demand now.
Wow! Feels like a huge departure from previous Corvettes. I love it except for the rear which, at least in these photos, looks busy and lacks the elegance of other design elements.
As Brian says, original content might have been deleted per Rivals policy. Probably a good policy when you have "journalists" making stuff up.
IMO Balas deserves the shade that's being thrown. If anyone asks him where he came up with this story on Peters, please post his response. Inquiring minds and all.
Hearing this and knowing Harbaugh was likely informed that weekend further justifies Jim speaking out in a public way at that Monday presser. Purdue deserves to be blasted for this woefully incompetent medical treatment. And those who felt the need to throw flames at Harbaugh? They can eat another dick.
Pure joy, every time I see those clips of Denard and Tree in the stands rooting for the Michigan basketball team. And this GIF is the digital cure for anyone jaded on college athletes.
Truly a fitting summary for a Wolverine who will live long in the memories of all Michigan fans. And thanks to Derrick for willing himself and his team to reach their potential at such a critical juncture. That B1G Championship banner will always remind me of this run.

My advice: consult with a physician.

So, Preacher Mike, you’re saying…

He gone. For so many reasons, he gone.
Sending good thoughts…

Harlan Huckleby! Now that takes me back.

Sjowgren is a group I stumbled on to recently and have had in steady rotation since.

Just caught her show in DC. She’s got a lot of potential.
Earth, Wind, and Fire’s cover of The Beatles’ “Got to Get You into My Life” elevates a great song into a classic.

Don’t post here often, but logged in to thank you for sharing such a beautiful and personal moment.
Yes, singing later. His rendition of The Victors is quite breathtaking.

Must have liked that earthquake simulator.
Watching now. Recommend for its very practical advice.

Somehow I knew Craig's segment within the segment would inspire this week's title. Bravo!
Was not expecting to wake up to a Wagner-Charlemagne mash-up. Such heady times for Michigan basketball and its fans.
Kudos to the continued Photoshop sorcery at MGB.

Funny you should ask. The video they released as part of their breakup answers that question:

Sorry for your loss, Seth. Thoughts are with you, your wife and her family.
Appreciate the always excellent write up.

American Factory, most recent Oscar winner, was excellent and showed some of issues, impacts of globalization.
Seems like a lot of these are sports clichés, not narratives. But I'll add my $.02..
"Tom Brady is a system QB. You could plug in any other QB under Belichick and they'd do same things."

You’re both wrong. For elite craft breweries, Vermont and California are better.

Would love to have one as my second car.
You’ve got a real gift for turning an expletive-laced misogynistic phrase.
One of my favorite college players to watch as he's impossible to stop when he catches the ball down low.
Other reasons this sucks:

Possibly there is a silver lining. Perhaps Wilson notified Beilein that he intends to return for another year. A man can always dream.
