Karlaftis Might want to edit your post. George is the #12 SDE, not #12 overall.
It’s also a matter of circumstance and luck It’s also a lot about how the draft falls. I live in Atlanta and the talk has been about how the Falcons would take a DT in the first round, either Taven Bryan or Hurst. Then, the best WR in the draft, who wasn’t expected to be there, fell to them. Sometimes it just happens because teams get lucky and other teams reach.
Yes That doesn’t have to be a sexual term, unless you make it.
Shooting vs. Size It’s interesting that even now most analysts look at Michigan and say “they are a team that has to shoot well to win, when the last few games have showed that isn’t true. In some ways Michigan still has a reputation for being a finesse team. Any team that doesn’t have a traditional post and likes to shoot 3s is considered “finesse.” This Michigan team is super tough and can bang with anyone. It always amuses me that teams that realize that 3 is greater than 2 are somehow less tough.
Because He clearly isn’t pure Michigan right now? Because he can celebrate where he is from and still love Michigan? He is from Ohio, so do we really need to list all the athletes for Ohio who went to Michigan?
Tom Crean I’m actually genuinely enjoying listening to him. Guy knows his stuff and breaks everything down really well.
Surprise Starters? UMbig11, will there be any surprise starters tomorrow? Or someone playing way more than expected?

Guest Picker There is a certain Michigan legend whose Oakland team has a bye next week. Would make for an excellent guest picker.
Selling the team

From what I understand, he might not have a choice in selling his team.  It is a Franchise, not his personal business, and the NBA retains the rights to that franchise and can revoke it.  It seems certain that Silver has the votes he needs to simply revoke Sterling's stake in the Clippers.  In that scenario, the NBA would handle the process of selling the team, Sterling would have no say in who buys it.  Is it a slipperly slope?  Possibly, but it is also a reminder that Owners are not exempt from punishment for tarnishing the image of the league.

One and dones

Lost in all this is the very real possibility that this is the last year for one and dones for a while.  The new NBA commisioner has made it his top priority to raise the minimum age to 20.  This will allow top players to go to the shcool they feel will develop them the best, not neccesarily where they will get immediate playing time.  In that scenario, Michigan's recent success in developing players is a huge, huge factor.

Passing

He has a few pretty sweet passes in and out of the post in that video.  He truly seems to be a great fit for this team.  If he can break down guys one on one, he can do a lot of things in this offense.  He is going to be a match up nightmare on defense, especially if he is on the floor with say, Wilson or Donnal and another big man.  He will be able to easily shoot over smaller guards, and big men will have to follow him out to the permimeter.  The fun comes when the other team has to guard 2 or 3 guys who are all 6"8 and can shoot 3's.  I dont know how you guard that with most college teams.

Yes

My avatar approves of this, good sir.

The Draft

The 3 guys who could potentially go 1,2,3 in the draft are not making it to the Sweet Sixteen.  It is always interesting to see that in this age of the one and done, very little beats experience and good coaching.

Inflation Theory

This essentially proves the inflation theory of the universe.  Which states that the universe, at the big bang, expanded all at once at many time the speed of light.  This is why the universe is uniform in terms of temperature and makeup.  This lends creedance to the mutli-universe theory, because our universe had to have expanded in something, so it stands to reason that there are other universes also expanding in whatever this void is.  So that is kind of a big deal.

#1 seed i would rather have the number 1 seed, without a doubt. You get a much easier path and with Michigan in the east, they will have a huge alumni base to support them.
Standards

Foote thinks the University should lower their admission standards for football.  that isnt going to happen.

This kid

This kis looks like a great fit for the system.  Looks a lot like Stauskas, he just needs to keep developing.  He even had a nice "game blouses" dunk in that video

McDowell

It seems like people are bracing themselves for the first with McDowell.  In fact it seems like many people have already written it off, and that might be the case,  I think however, that it is just as likely that this is just a kid who is set on following a more traditional timeline for his recruiting.  He and his family are doing their due diligence and seeing every thing they can.  The excelerated pace of recruiting under Hoke has spoiled us a bit and made us impatient as a fan base.

KLS

KLS is coming on hard for induction into the profile picture hall of fame.

Dillman

I don't understand why a great number of people seem obsessed with Kevin Dillman and think its a travesty that Michigan hasnt offered him.  The kid is very raw.  It is just as likely that he will never develop into a solid QB as it is that he blows up.  It is very ovious the staff wants guys who are more developed and better able to run the offense.  Sills looks quite mobile and has great mechanics.  You can't really ask for much more than that.  If Dillman was a random 3 star who said he loved Michigan, no one would bat an eye.  But because someone decided he is a 5 star, people assume he is OMG amazing and the best qb prospect ever.

I''ll try

Mcgary will play

Good things will happen tonight

GR alley oop

It's ok

Booker would have brought down the average height of our team next year anyway.  We only recruit 6'6 and above combo guards now.

I don't agree

Kearns, if he is indeed the top option, looks pretty mobile on film.  He's not Devin or Denard, but he looks like he can do enough with his legs to keep a defense honest.  He looks absolutely nothing like, say John Navarre.

Development

This basketball program has shown a wondrful ability to develop players.  It goes up and down the line.  A guy like Jordan Morgan can come in, completely reshape his body, and become a pretty damn good player.  Stauskas is gonna be very good this year I think.

Dillman

It certainly seems like his unabashed desire for a Michigan offer will help his case.  The staff seems to want to offer qb's that they know will commit fairly quickly.  If they think he can be a legit passer, Doesnt seem to be any reason why he won't get an offer.

It has been repeated and repeated

Basketball recruiting is very excellerated.  The Final Four appearance happened after most of the elite guys had been recruited for years.  And, you can still see the impact in guys like Blackmon taking visits seemingly out of nowhere.  We will soon have a top 100 kid in the fold, with a few more coming.  That is a damn good class.  We are not going to get a McGary and Robinson every year.  But remember, Grantham is in about the range Burke was whenre he came in.

burrell senior Does Burrell's dad have any eligibility left? That is a big dude
it'll come the first game was a blowout. and against notre dame the staff wisely trusted the seniors. chesson will get his chance soon. I suspect he will get some balls Saturday.
Illinois illinois is still terrible.
God

Even God hates the MSU offense.  Had to pull out the lightning to ge them to stop

Bryant

I think Bryant at guard is honestly the best case scenario.  We tend to forget because it was a few cycles ago but Chris Bryant was very highly regarded and was a big deal when he commited.  You have to think he would have gotten a shot at playing last year if he had not gotten injured.  Kalis and Bryant is a nasty guard combo.  This was Braden is the first off the bench and he can play either guard or tackle, where as Bryant probably cant play tackle as well.   i also like the idea of having two guards that will probably start more than one season.  Next year you dont want to have to replace the tackles and one of the guards.

Michigan

It seems like other than Cole, There doesnt seem like a whole lot of players in the '15 class from Michigan that the staff like.  Campbell probably wont get an offer, and it seems like Alabi isnt really a priority.  As others have said, Cole seems like the big prize, and I feel pretty confident that if our staff wants him, they can probably get him.  It's honestly hard to get worked up about this because, you know, campbell and harris

Hurst

Maurice Hurst down to 270, I gotta figure thats a good thing.  He was probably carrying bad weight at 300.  Also, Butt and Funchess are basically the same size now

Talent

One of the most memorable moments for me from The Michigan-Alabama game is when Krik Herstreit commented that the talent disparity between the two teams was so vast.  I don't think that is going to be the case anymore.  Michigan is going to have the horses to run with anyone.

This is great

This kid has seemed like a Duke leader ever since he has been on Michigan's radar.  the staff really seems to have made up a ton of ground with him.  They have a great chance to impress him on a visit and take the lead.

If things go according to plan, Michigan will very likely have 4 first round draftl picks in 2 years.  That is a big deal  and kids have already started to take notice.  Getting kids like Booker, Looney and Zimmerman are going to keep Michigan at an elite level for a while if we can close on a few of them.  I mean, who wouldn't want to play for Beilein?  His style of offense seems like every players dream.

Superman

Superman is one of the hardest comic book characters to portray.  You have to make a man who in invulnerable vulnerable.  He is not relatable in the way someone like Batman is.  They chose to focus on his  worry in how the world would react to him.  It was a different take, and I admire them doing it.

That being said, Zach Snyder knows nothing of subtlety.  It is a profoundly humourless movie that takes itself incredibly serious.  Also, I think it's amusing that people always complain about believability in a Superman movie.  Suspension of disbelief is kind of par for the course when you are talking about an immortal alien who thinks glasses are a disguise.

Third

Alabam is still third behind Tech and Michigan.  It's not like they are suddenly in the lead.  People are reading way to into this.  But 24/7 got their page clicks.

Recruiting

The topic of the Big Ten's subpar recruiting has been a particular point of interest on this blog lately, and here is a coach, under the strictest sanctions any one has had in a long time, out recruiting everyone not name Hoke or Meyer.  I don't know if it says more about Bill O'Brien as a recruiter, or more about the rest of the big ten.

McDowell

I'm pretty sure McDowell is closer to 300.  He was probably the biggest guy at that event.  There is no way a human that big should be able to move like that.  Normally you see 6"6 300 you're thinking OT, not a DE.  And as the OP noted, it doesn't look like bad weight at all.  If he can learn to stay low consistently, my god.

UFR

To put it in the context of this site, I think Poggi is the kind of player the UFR is going to love.  He maybe wont be the flashiest player on the line, but at the end of the day he is going to do all the right things to make plays.  In that regard, the RVB comparison makes perfect sense.

These

Are amazing.  If you hate these uniforms you hate America.  And wookies.

Stauskas

I'm surprised how many people seem to be writing off Stauskas as losing his spot and losing minutes.  He played like a talented freshman last year.  There is no reason he can't improve over the summer and come back better.  With Hardaway and Burke gone Stauskas is the only guy on the roster who has proven he can get his own shot.  Maybe Walton and Irvin, but they aren't on the team yet.  Defense was definetly his biggest weakness last year, but that is something he can improve.  He will be the starter at the 2 next year.

good news

This also helps our back court depth.  With GRIII playing the 3 that most like lt means stauskas/levert/Irvin at the 2 with Irvin also backing up at the 3.  Morgan/Horford at the 5 is pretty good, plus Bielfeldt and Donnal in there.

Banking

There is absolutely no reason to bank scholarships in basketball.  If you have a guy who you think can contribute, you bring him in.  The kid looks like he could easily get minutes on this team backing up the 4 or 5.  Banking a scholarship is wasting minutes.  It's not like in football where you go 3-4 deep at every position.  Bring this kid in, let him back up for a year, then next (assuming Mcgary and Robinson leave after next year) he can probably get major minutes if he's developed.
