One Saint Patrick's Day when…

One Saint Patrick's Day when I was in law school, the professor announced at the beginning of class that, in honor of the day, he would only call on Irish students. And then he called on, "Mr. O'Goldberg." As the class laughed, he said, "We're all O's today."

So the family of this "O for a day" will celebrate with Irish whiskey and corned beef and cabbage. And to the real O's on this board and your families, have a wonderful day celebrating your heritage.

I’ll never forget how glum…

I’ll never forget how glum the Michigan fans were during halftime of the National Championship game when the momentum seemed to be against us and how discouraged we all were in the third quarter. But the defense never yielded and the offense rose to the occasion, What a glorious moment when the confetti began to fall. And when I think about it, I still get goosebumps. Thanks for the reminder, OP.

I assume there is diversity…

I assume there is diversity of citizenship and FSU will remove to federal court. And most federal courts look askance at attempts to keep filings under seal. The public, which supports the courts, have an interest in knowing what is going on in the courts. There's a heavy burden to keep something under seal, The ACC will have to show how that its injury if the complaint were made public outweighs the public's right to know.

Re "once in a lifetime."…

Re "once in a lifetime." When we were in Houston for the CFP, people would say to us, "This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience." My response was always: "I hope not."

I agree. I thought he was…

I agree. I thought he was Chris Fowler, and vice versa.

I agree that this decision…

I agree that this decision should have been expected after what he said last night. And i don't think anyone should second-guess him. He believes this is the best decision for him. And I'll bet his coaches do, too.

Thanks for posting this. I…

Thanks for posting this. I didn't know about the broadcast before I had to leave to babysit my graddaughters (who are too small to watch). So I'm glad I was able to watch this morning.

Yes, it's unfortunate that the announcers talked over the payer intros (Devin, what were you thinking in taking the spotlight from the team), but the player's speeches were fabulous. And we all learned (or re-learned) a little Shakespeare from the coach.

Hail, hail, ESPN.

Hail, hail, ESPN.

There are people out there…

EDIT: Never mind. Someone beat me to it.

Thanks for the encouragement…

Thanks for the encouragement. I am sincerely sorry for giving you this scare. I realized my mistake the instant I posted and by then it was too late, not that that matters. (My MGoPoodle, looking at this over my shoulder, is saying, "If it doesn't matter, then why did you mention it?")

And I have no excuse for misspelling the name of a Michigan legend and maybe the greatest football color announcer of all time.

Just be grateful I didn't mention Keith Jackson in the title. You might have had a heart attack. I just wonder why he wasn't announcing Monday night. I hope he didn't get fired

By the way, a friend of mine recently pointed out that, as well-known as Dierdorf's relationship with Bo is, he was recruited by Bump Elliot. He was one of Elliot's many legacies whom he left for Bo.

"At the end of the day, no…

"At the end of the day, no one believes at this point that Michigan didn't win the national title fair and square."

That's good. He is saying the participants in 11W and RCMB are "no one."

Yes, I'm still in a hangover…

Yes, I'm still in a hangover, and I deserve all the abuse and the negs. But I still hope Dan and Jim were at the game.

Sorry, I realized the instant I posted that I should have made the title, "Were Dierdorff and Brandstatter there?" Thanks for the partial pass. Which part?

Don't forget revenues the Daily receives from donations. You can earmark your alumni donation to the Daily. I recommend doing so, at least in part.

There were 22 ecstatic…

There were 22 ecstatic Michigan fans going home through Tulsa with a connection scheduled to arrive in STL about 6:30 pm. But we were stuck on the ground so long at Hobby that we were still in the air when the connection left without us. Southwest rerouted all of us back to Dallas (with more than a four-hour layover) and then to STL. We finally landed at nearly 1 am. (I think. I was really too tired by then to remember.) Travel time from Hobby to Lambert: Nearly 13 hours. But as I said to some fellow Michigan travelers, "If before you went to Houston, someone had told you that we would win, but you'd have to miss your flight back and not get to your home till after 2 in the morning, would you do it?" I don't have to tell you their answer.

I walked in the house and said to my MGoPoodle, "We left as ordinary people and return as NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!" She was as excited as we were!

It's excellent as it is and where it is. Thank you for posting. As I am sure you can see, the vast majority of Michigan fans here appreciate what you said and were happy to read it.

Did HE ever say anything…

Did HE ever say anything like that? His post gave me goose bumps it was so classy and well done. I think we should only say thank you to him.

Sec. 338 Row L. Lots of …

Sec. 338 Row L. Lots of “Michigan vs Everybody”  shirts and one young boy whose shirt just said, “Bet.”

We saw the Rose Bowl from…

We saw the Rose Bowl from home and she didn't wear it. She wore a Michigan t-shirt that our niece gave her during her freshman year (only about 20 years ago) and she's going to wear it under the zippered pullover she bought yesterday.

And I'm wearing the sweatshirt I wore for the Rose Bowl.

So all good.

Correct according to this…

Correct according to this page, which I hadn't seen before: https://collegefootballplayoff.com/sports/2022/8/22/playbook-2024.aspx?spMailingID=10440717&spUserID=ODEzOTQ5MzMyMTE2S0&spJobID=1900157565&spReportId=MTkwMDE1NzU2NQS2

Note that this page lists binoculars among the prohibited items. I can't believe that. I've never been unable to bring binoculars to a game. I'm going to bring mine and hope I can get them in. I'll get there eraly enogh I can take them back to my nearby hotel if they really are banned.

However, small umbrellas that can fit under your seat are allowed.

I hadn't thought to look…

I hadn't thought to look there. But my ticket says, "Entry Info Gates 11:00 AM." It says nothing about Stadium entry. The ticket is from Ticketmaster, bought through Stubhub.

Someone posted that the…

Someone posted that the stadium opens at 3:30. Is that right? I haven't been able to confirm that on any web site. But if so, and depending on the rain situation, I think we'll head over then and "tailgate" in our seats. There will be plenty to eat and drink there. See https://houston.eater.com/23959032/houston-nrg-stadium-texans-football-concerts-new-food-where-to-eat-drink.

At Hobby it was mostly Mich…

At Hobby it was mostly Mich with some Wash. Our hotel seems to be all Mich, at least those we've seen. Our Uber driver on the way to dinner said his passengers were 50-50. The manager of the restaurant who stopped by to greet us told us it was about 90-10 Mich. He may have been telling us what we wanted to hear, but we only saw one W shirt and that was in a large table surrounded by M's.

I wonder how many from the Pacific Northwest are unable to get here because of the Boeing shutdown. A classmate who lives in Portland said if he'd bought tickets he'd have been stuck at home because flights on United, the only airline with nonstop flights from there, are grounded.

We're back.The restaurant…

We're back. The restaurant was full of people in Mich clothes. The manager stopped by to say hello and said he thought it was Mich over Wash 9 to 1. Maybe he was just telling us what we wanted to hear, but we saw only one person wearing a W, and he was at a large table with Mich fans.

I ended up with an Old Fashioned bc of the waiter's mistake, but it was good, so I ordered another one. My MGoWife's sidecar variation wasn't as good as a regular sidecar, so she switched to wine. The food was great.

In Houston, about to head to…

In Houston, about to head to Pappardeaux Seafood Kitchen for New Orleans food that isn't easy to find at home. The restaurant seems to have fancy-schmanzy drinks in all sorts of colors, but I think I'll stick to their best bourbon on the rocks. My MGoWife may opt for a Sidecar, her usual go-to drink. According to their on-line menu, they appear to have a fancy variation.

I regret that I have but one…

I regret that I have but one downvote to give to this post.

It's in a tent on the Fiesta…

It's in a tent on the Fiesta parking lot, just down the street from the stadium. But be warned: The selection is poor, with lots of outdated merchandise, such as shirts from the 2021 Orange Bowl and even the Final Four, believe it or not. And the prices for current stuff are very high.

Sorry, this is what I get…

Sorry, this is what I get for posting without reading through the thread. I should neg myself. We're staying at the Holiday Inn by the stadium, so as soon as we arrive, we'll head to Fiestas.

My MGoWife has been wearing…

My MGoWife has been wearing my freshman year sweatshirt for so many decades that it is nearly falling apart. Does anyone know where in Houston she can get a new one? She's proud to wear this antique, but she'd prefer one without holes in it.

Prompted by OP, I just…

Prompted by OP, I just reflected on my history as an in-person fan and realized I haven't seen Michigan lose since the Missouri game in 1969 (my sophomore year).

That's not why I'm attending Monday night. I'm doing that because it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Michigan go for a national football title (at least so far!). Yes, I watched the 1998 Rose Bowl on tv.

Today, we bought our tickets (Section 338, on the Michigan side), got our hotel room (I think the last one close to the stadium) and our flights (and they were scarce).

To everyone who, for reasons of superstition or despite superstition, will be in Houston, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU. GO, BLUE!!!

I don't understand why you…

I don't understand why you have any doubts. Just go. There are still lots of good seats. I know, I just bought mine. And you'll be there with tens of thousands of your closest friends.

+1 for Twilight Tone.

He'll be in another dimension after going through, not only the transfer portal, but a tunnel of the mind.

I respectfully disagree…

I respectfully disagree regarding the peer rating question you mention. My knowledge goes back to when my daughters were applying to college. That question was the basis for the academic reputation category, which accounted for 20-25% of the overall score, which I thought was much more significant than other categories, such as alumni giving. If the question is what your degree is worth, you'd want to know how it's regarded by other academics, wouldn't you?

And, no surprise, Michigan did much better in academic reputation than its overall ranking. (So did other good state schools.) Michigan's peers -- the ones who will be deciding whether to admit you to graduate or professional schools -- recognize the value of a Michigan education.

Brian's write-up bordered on…

Brian's write-up bordered on poetry.

I have two points to add to the insights everyone else has contributed.

First, on the "what-ifs," the missed field goal might have been a blessing in disguise. If Michigan had been leading by one during Alabama's last drive in regulation, Saban wouldn't have punted on 4th and 4 near midfield (about the 44, as I recall) with nearly a minute to go and one time out. And it's entirely possible that they'd have made the first down and driven far enough for their phenomenal kicker to get a game-winner. This doesn't change anything, just an interesting observation.

Of more moment, take another look at Milroe's fourth down run in OT. The reason he appeared to dive into the line is that he tripped over the left leg of his right tackle, who had moved to the center to block for his run up the middle. Don't know why the tackle was slow getting there so that he wasn't really blocking. But that's what happened. I noticed that when I kept watching the play over and over to see why Milroe was inexplicably diving into the line from a yard back. I haven't seen anyone point that out.

On your No. 1: During the radio broadcast, Jon Jansen made the same point about the sun being in Semaj's eyes.

No. 2: My late MGoPoodle used to bark like crazy in response to my reactions to great Michigan plays. He'd have loved this game.

I have just two words for your collective consideration: Ryan Day.

Michigan's running game has been dead this half. Down to an average of 3.3 YPC for the game. Sigh.
