I cancelled my subscription, as well.  All U-M fans should boycott this gossip site.

This piece, from the "Bears perspective" is crap.  the Athletic makes up its unnamed sources, and is the journalistic equivalent of a tourist trap.

Feldman and Auerbach are right down there with Thamel as panderers.   Ashamed Auerbach is one of our own.  shows even a good education cant prevent the lure of media whore-som.

Part 2

When Dylan and The Band played Crisler. Dylan did an acoustic set in the middle.  At a momentary pause, I stood and screamed "Whipping Post!" at the top of my lungs.  Nobody joined in.

When Michigan hoops played…

When Michigan hoops played at UConn in the early Bielien years, they sat us in a block up near the roof.  The UConn fans faced us and did a "tomahawk chop" cheer, chanting "we're UConn, U suck".

I stood and faced them, and started my own chop, chanting "Safe school, safe school, safe school" back at them.  Most of the M fans in the section stood and joined me, giving us a pretty impressive "safe school" chant back.

I remember the really surprised, slightly offended looks on their faces.

Tony Pettiti is a very solid guy, very fair, a great hire.  I knew him well back in his ABC days, played a good bit of golf with him. They say the golf course is a great place to get a window into somebody’s personality. Tony will be a terrific Big Ten commissioner.

the best series I have seen…

the best series I have seen is "Killing Eve" (Hulu).  Jodie Comer is the best psycho ever, and the music, the clothes, her kills.......the best.  Nothing else quite like this one.  It is even great the third time!

If you have not seen "Extraordinary" (Hulu), it is only 4 hours worth (8, 30 minute episodes) but it is as aggressively funny as anything on tv.

Also, "Dark" is a three season, time shift/whodunit that does a perfect job of wrapping up all story lines......very good, and you dont feel dumb afterwards.

"ozark" was pretty good, "Greenleaf" was way overblown

btw, three of us tried watching "Everything, Everyhwere...", one gave up after 15 minutes, one left after half hour, I gave up at the 55 minute mark.  The worst winner since "Slumdog Millionaire"

We were 14th row in the Rutgers section, about 30  yard line (the interceptions were right in front of us!) and the light show/ horn , which we in blue called "the garbage truck", was a joke.  Really loud, blackouts, red lights, fireworks, "Sopranos" parody video, Saturday Night Rutgers, it didnt stop.

In the first half, I told one of them "If you guys you were any good, this get really annoying".  They were jacked at halftme and the start of the third quarter, all horns and fireworks, and the fans were gone before the start of the fourth quarter.

As the locals would say "fuhgedabotit".

I have never before posted a comment without reading/ hearing the referenced piece, but why in the world does anyone on this board care about what Al Borges has to say about football strategy?

Al Borges could not figure out how to use Denard Robinson, for crying out loud.  Did anyone here see Denard's sophomore season?  Al Borges must have missed the film.  Al Borges turned a dynamic explosive weapon into a mediocre drop back QB.  Al Borges had many, many OC jobs because he had experience, but nobody ever wanted him to stay.

I think we should take a lesson from the English football leagues and have the best move up each year, and the worst move down.

So for next year, Jacksonville Jaguars move to SEC, Alabama and Georgia move up to the NFL, and the Lions move to the Big Ten (12,14, whatever).

I have never seen a back run…

I have never seen a back run as angry, and carry as many tacklers, as Biakabatuka vs OSU.  Coaches had been telling him it was a privilege for him to be on the field with the future Heisman Trophy winner, Ed George, and he played the best game I have ever seen from a running back.

Haskins performance was great, and I think he will have a nice pro career, but pre-knee surgery Touchdown Tim might have had the best feet I have ever seen.   Hard to imagine we had Wheatley and TB in the same backfield!

UNC:  15 years of not making athletes attend class, an institutional conspiracy.  How they avoided the death penalty is a tribute to NCAA corruption

UK:  Five separate Level One violations and a history of paying recruits.

Remember when Jalen Wilson committed there, just after the violations were made public, and Wilson's message was "Coach told me not to worry about it" and we thought HE was the naive one.

I saw The Who at SB in Miami…

I saw The Who at SB in Miami between Saints/ Colts.   Great show, they set up a stage with cool lights and just played a few basics, but played the shit out of them.   Also saw Daltrey/ Townshend do an acoustic show in a private tent for the CBS advertisers the night before. Daltrey sang, Townshend sang and played acoustic guitar, they stood on risers 25 feet from me. " We are Roger and Peter, we call ourselves The Who, and we are available for weddings and Bar Mitzvahs", said Daltrey, after they played Pinball Wizard.

But the thing I remember most clearly is how mind-numbingly loud the Saints fans were when the Colts had the ball.  They turned in on big, and turned it off for Saints posession. And when you they thought they had to be tapped, they came back, roaring and shaking shit.  My buddy and I could not hear each other from next to each other.  It was a blessing to go stand outside at halftime.

Is that a letter to the editor written by a mouthbreathing OSU fan, or is that what passes for professional journalism in Columbus?

If "Brian White" is a staff writer for a paid newspaper, I am laughing so hard I pass Buckeye nuts through my nose.  The writing would be considered juvenile in a high school newspaper.

And as for the "What's your deal?" quote, I must assume the writer is too young to remember 2009, because its a good story.  Carroll's USC teams spent years rolling up scores to help their national ranking, and he was stunned when Harbaugh's Stanford team did it to him.  "What's your deal?" he reportedly whined to Harbaugh, who replied, "I dont know.  What's your deal?".

Columbus:  south til you smell it, east til you step in it.

I had Speech Dept classes…

I had Speech Dept classes with him in the old Frieze Buliding on State, 1976 & 77.  Nice funny guy.  He did some acting in AA, but I dont remember the shows.

Having seen them both, Calhoun Tubbs is definitely inspired by Shakey Jake, but Tubbs has more "talent".  I used to work at Dooley's (now Scorekeepers?) and Jake made some money performing......selling a "song" for a dollar.  (most dollar songs lasted well less than one minute)

Loved "Men on Film" especially.  Not that it was DAG's line, but a favorite moment of mine is when they are doing reviews and Blaine (Wayans) gives a "hated it" to Die Hard "because he thought it was going to be a love story",

TWO reasons Harbaugh is the…

TWO reasons Harbaugh is the Coach of the Year:

1.  Taking a team unranked in preseason polls to the College Football Playoffs (First time ever)

2.   Took a pay cut, with performance bonuses, in order to stay at the job he loves......then, when the bonuses kick in, he donated the entire amount back to his Athletic Dept to restore salaries of workers who took pay cuts due to COVID.  (First time ever)

And the media barely noticed Harbaugh's classy move while the drooled all over themselves covering Brian Kelly's cash grab.

PS:  Speaking of "Coach of the Year", Kelly seems to be following "Saban's Rule" that the coach gets smarter as the admissions standards at his school get lower.

You can have your superstitions.   I won the juju battle by going with the TV in my den, not the big screen hooked up to the sound system, which had a bad track record in big Michigan games. Also channeled the old school manball vein by wearing an old, actual maize, t shirt.  No highlighter yellow.  Just sayin'

Let's have a little reality…

Let's have a little reality check.

Harbaugh, by big time football standards, is a class act. Urban Meyer, anyone?

We are 7-1, having lost one of the worst officiated (or re-officiated by replay) games ever.  Hardly a sinking ship.

Harbaugh does not have the option of bringing in JUCOs, and many transfer portal kids also dont pass Admissions Dept muster.   Remember Xavier Worthy?  He was in Ann Arbor, trying to enroll early and make spring ball.  Admissions told him his quickie HS graduation did not fly, but that he could still enroll and play in the fall.  It took him about 2 weeks to land, fully eligible, at Texas, where he already has something like 800 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns.

Luke Fickell, Matt Campbell and the like are not prepared to recruit Michigan level students.

I believe Harbaugh is here until Mike Hart is ready to take over, and I expect that is at least a few years off.

Les (and his mullett) were at Michigan when I was, and I lived in West Quad with many football players.    Even then, Les was a complete dickhead.  Nothing surprising to me about this story, especially the part where Les doesnt even get over.

Last spring, I knew the…

Last spring, I knew the lease on my electric Kia would be up in November,  We have a 240 volt line in the garage and wanted to stay electric.  We liked the electric Mustang, and put down $500 refundable and ordered a Mustang.  They were talking early Fall deliveries.

By September, it became apparent that Ford was having delays, and would not be getting us the new car close to when we turned in the leased car, so we asked for and received a refund of our $500.  However, we continued to get emails as if we still had the car on order.  Not sure if cars have showed up by now, March, but I half expected them to tell me to come in and look.   If they are as hot a commodity as we are reading, the dealer should have no trouble moving the car we ordered.

Are the Mustangs out?

We got a Tesla Model Y and are very happy.  Had minor hardware issues, Tesla has a van that comes to us, took care of everything.   The Tesla is to our 2017 BMW what a smartphone is to a flip phone.  I used "summon" in a parking lot, with my dog in the front seat and stunned some guys eating in their pickups.

wow.    Great work, Ace. …

wow.    Great work, Ace.  that is the best sports analysis piece I have read  since the early days of Bill James.

the NCAA does indeed have…

the NCAA does indeed have minimum standards, and those wont get even a football star into Michigan.  Rich Rodriguez wrote a column supporting Harbaugh, saying specifically that Michigan was the only place he ever coached where the Admissions department said "NO" to the football coach.

It is important to separate…

It is important to separate the two major groups on this site:   Michigan grads, and Michigan "fans".

The Fans root for Michigan the way they root for pro teams, and expect the same results.  They are the bulk of the Harbaugh haters (grammar and syntax are often a tip off) and they have a right to their opinion.

The Grads still expect Michigan players to be Michigan Men, attending class, doing community service, going on to benefit society in ways other than being pro sports entertainers.  Would we prefer to be National Champs, like LSU, with a thriving rape culture (9 incidents, no punishments)?

A sentiment I have seen on this blog is "not willing to become Ohio State in order to beat them in football".  Let's recognize that OSU might have a few starting players who could get into Michigan, but not many.  Even before COVID, Justin Fields had no shame in telling he world he had two hours per month of classes (starting in October) and that homework was all due 30 minutes after online class ended, so as not to cut into football prep time.  Until COVID, Michigan was the only public university in Div 1 that did not allow athletes to take online classes.

Last year, a friend of mine who graduated Northwestern asked me about Michigan getting rid of Harbaugh.   I pointed out that Fitzgerald was coming off a 3-8 season, and asked him if they were thinking of booting him.  "Hell no, he is our guy" was the response.

I graduated in 1977, and in my yearbook is the text of a speech Bo Schembechler gave, talking about how Michigan's high academic standards mean competing for a national championship is a long shot at best, but that the quest is the key, not the results.

I think it says a great deal about our SCHOOL that both football and basketball are coached by Michigan grads who had very successful pro careers, and came back to coach and mold men......a concept that transcends wins and losses on the field.

Michigan grads (as opposed…

Michigan grads (as opposed to the larger "Michigan fans") understand that this is still "college" football at Michigan.  We could not have taken most of the OSU starters even if they wanted to come here.

Although I hate the rivalry losses of the last decade, no Michigan grad wants to become OSU in order to beat them at football.

We have nationally ranked teams in so many sports that I simply say I follow Michigan, and point out that we are often nationally ranked in football, basketball, womens basketball, hockey, baseball and softball.......I may even learn to watch lacrosse when our team gets good.

I have a friend who graduated Northwestern.  I asked him last year, during their 3-8 season, if he thought it was time for Fitzgerald to go.  "Hell no, he's our guy.  Who represents football at our school better?".   I fee the same way about Harbaugh.

I am 12 years old, and I…

I am 12 years old, and I watched The Game with my father.  Michigan was not very good that year, and got blown out, as expected.  But at the end of the game, having just scored a pointless touchdown, Ohio State went for the 2 point conversion, and got it, to make the score 50-14.

We went out rake leaves, and my father explained to me that "Ohio State" stood for "steaming pile of shit".  I have lived by that credo ever since.

How about a John Beilein/ Tom Hanks ticket?

You are all missing a key…

You are all missing a key point.   tOSU has Justin Fields enrolled in 2 hours per month of online classes, which started in October.....even though Fields had been on campus since January ("enrolled") and played in the Spring game, without ever having been to a class.

Although he has almost no academic interference with his football, once the season is long over, he will no doubt take a heavier "class" load through winter and summer.  OSU is willing to create online classes, so football players' practice and workout schedule is not interrupted during the season.

It is not cheating, just a sign that your "school" exists to put sports teams on the floor.   The basketball coach brought in 4 top 100 players this year.  Wonder who needs to go class?

I hate the Suckeyes because…

I hate the Suckeyes because their "student athletes" dont even start classes until Oct 2, and if you are Justin Fields, when "classes" finally start for you (after being on "campus" since January).....you only have 2 hours per month of online classes.

They dont even "play School" .

Sounds like Fields wont walk across campus and sit in a class with other OSU "students" for at least his first year on campus.  Piece of crap school exists so their ballplayers can play "college" football.

Pretty sure our players actually attend classes with non football players

I was on the Golf Team in 1973-4, and spent the winter practicing in the basement, hitting into nets.  It was a pretty cheesey setup, and we were not a very good team.

There was an apartment in the golf course basement, and an assistant football coach and his family lived there.  I remember feeling sorry for these nice kids who lived in a basement with their football gypsy family.

When he was hired to coach football at U-M, Jim Harbaugh talked about what a cool place his family had.....snack bar upstairs, golf course in back and football stadium across the street.  He and his brother John were the family in the basement in 1973.

DUDENESS: you could not be more of an asshole

how many times do you have to be told you have your facts wrong, and because of that, your opinions are a joke?  My guess is that you are the kind  of loser who only gets attention by being an asshole.........as you are doing now..

Look in the mirror and say to yourself "I need to stop being an asshole, I need to stop being an asshole" and keep repeating that until you are acutally able to stop spewing garbage at people.
