On the flip side of that…

On the flip side of that argument, it sounds like players didn’t return because of the education and the tradition of playing specifically for Michigan as Warde waxed poetic about couple months back.

Chances are it’s probably a little of both of NIL and their love for the school/team.

Glad to see that Edwards…

Glad to see that Edwards appears to be maturing and maybe even humbled by last year’s lack of production outside of the CFP championship game.

Not sure what “wasn’t feeling it” means exactly. Is that in reference to his mindset or physically on the field? Whatever the sentiment is, I hope that doesn’t creep back in this year because he will be counted on.

I get your sentiment but you…

I get your sentiment but you have to consider a few things:

1. Is May’s current assistant staff better than who we have now? I don’t know enough about FAU to make a judgement call.

2. Although Martelli was part of the recent shitshow, he was not the director or producer of it. If May’s future roster and leadership is a better fit for what Martelli did contribute to, it’s at least worth exploring bring him back.

3. He’s highly regarded around college basketball circles and coached the team when they still had an once of effort and normalcy.

I wasn’t trying to be a jerk…

I wasn’t trying to be a jerk btw.

I’d be down for May to keep…

I’d be down for May to keep an assistant or two, mainly Martelli, if just for continuity sake. Maybe May’s roster and system will actually integrate defensive concepts to help the team?

I think the receiver thing is worrisome and I fear the lack of a vertical passing game outside of the TE group is finally catching up with the team. I don’t think there’s a QB on the roster who is close to JJ’s passing abilities and even though the offensive schemes will likely stay the same, the running game will likely shoulder the load to further the lack of passing.

I think everyone would also…

I think everyone would also agree this is the type of low brow crap that should stay elsewhere, even if you’re condemning it. This is the embarrassing/smarmy TLC-program version of board comments and leaving it on whatever board it came from is totally ok. The comment you’re referring to isn’t even schadenfreude, just idiotic and classless. Maybe provide some context?

Also when the phrasing comes across as “a” non-white, I cringe to the highest degree. I can’t even get into all the other stuff but at the very least use a PC race/cultural identifier.

We all know Beilein doesn’t…

We all know Beilein doesn’t eat Chinese. He prefers subs and they must be crazy!

And I’m fine with May chatting up Beilein if he wants to but it shouldn’t have to be a pre-requisite. The

I think fans are…

I think fans are disenchanted there’s no type of Harbaugh-like situation with a returning player/coach with an experienced coaching record and still in their prime that’s a match made in heaven type deal.

Now although Howard did check off the former player/UM alum connection, he had zero HC experience and to cut his teeth in such a high profile position was a disaster as the years went on.

Can’t please everybody but I think making the hire now, allowing May to build a staff and recruit all levels of players could help the program set a solid foundation to at least be competitive next season. Start there and continue to grow.

Well we could really use a…

Well we could really use a Jimmy Chitwood right about now.

Yeah I wasn’t really trying…

Yeah I wasn’t really trying to make a comparison. My reply was in response to the line of “guy everyone else wanted”. As in, the universal top choice among teams looking for who they believe is the best coach.

When Patricia took the Lions HC job, he was universally deemed the best coach out on the market and in highest demand. And we all know how that worked out…

Either way, best of luck to May and the team. Gotta start somewhere.

About what?

Are they…

About what?

Are they friends? Is JB his mentor? Has Beilein taken on an unofficial Michigan basketball advisor role we’re all unaware of? I’m sure he’d be great as an assistant of some kind but give the new HC a minute to get his bearings under him, yeesh…

Much like when Harbaugh left the football program and Moore took over, it’s nobody’s team except for the HC, his staff and his players. We all love Beilein but if May’s first directive is “Contact the coach from 5 years ago for help”, what does that say about the level of confidence of the guy you just hired?

Umm where’s Greene county?

Umm where’s Greene county?

Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia…

Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia agree.

Yeah but those were some…

Yeah but those were some important 5 minutes…

If there's one thing Warde…

If there's one thing Warde has always been good at it's taking a proactive approach with the leadership of our teams.

And get all the calls. I…

And get all the calls. I truly believe Bill Self would’ve evaporated had they lost that game. Would’ve been a better ending as well.

If the KU player going for…

If the KU player going for the dunk didn’t hit the deck as hard as he did and got up going towards the loose ball, I think the refs hold their whistle and keep play resuming.

Damn shame.

I mean this in the nicest…

I mean this in the nicest way possible but they’re a novelty act that caught the sleeping giant during his nap. I can’t imagine that style of play is very sustainable but it sure is fun. KU was up 22 pts I think and it was a 1 pt game under a minute left. Hell of a fight.

But they take a few extra…

But they take a few extra minutes on the out of bound play but not the block?

All. Ball.

All. Ball.

I’m convinced the Samford HC…

I’m convinced the Samford HC has never drawn up a play in his life. He just says, “Everyone put on a jersey and these sneakers and go fucking crazy”.

4 pt game, 22 seconds left.

If you combined rugby, laser…

If you combined rugby, laser-tag, and capture the flag but kept points using a basketball and a hoop, you’d get Samford basketball.

Everyone looks like they’re being chased by bees.

Samford’s PG is absolutely…

Samford’s PG is absolutely wild. His dribble radius is spastically far and he’s running around the half court set as if he’s playing a neighborhood game of tag.

Oh, and he also has a sturdy wad of tissue in his right nostril from a nosebleed. I love the tournament.

Am I the only one googling …

Am I the only one googling “Where is Samford University” right now? 2 pt game with 4:15 left.

Come on, man. We’re all…

Come on, man. We’re all happy for the Golden Grizzlies and glad UK received a well-deserved quick exit but if 1 March Madness upset is enough to go straight to HC short list, Michigan has a lot of coaches to call.

Also if a majority of folks assume your university is in a different state based off the name alone, I’d say pump the brakes before scheduling the interview.

I was going to say have a…

I was going to say have a physical altercation with his own son in front of the entire team and lead the way for having a beloved S&C coach leave the program but what you said is technically more accurate.

I have no dog in this fight…

I have no dog in this fight and I’ll defer to your judgement, good sir. Also, is Ashley Judd nice in person? She seems really nice.

The baggage thing is a…

The baggage thing is a subjective misnomer. I don’t like the guy and I think he’s gives off shady creep vibes but besides the whole Derrick Rose SAT thing at Memphis in like 2008, the baggage thing is fodder perspective.

He might not be the squeaky clean church mouse that Beilein was but he hasn’t slapped an opposing coach yet and that guy just recently got the boot so I think we can leave that baggage behind, ya get me?

lol Is it lonely up there on…

lol Is it lonely up there on your pedestal? That is to say that the recently fired HC, who by all means is considered a legend at Michigan and considered himself a “Michigan Man”, intentionally tried to recruit the players you’re saying we don’t want. While it looks like we dodged a bullet with Shannon Jr., fans and alumni would’ve been doing backflips if any of the recent academically-ineligible players actually made it through admissions and suited up in a Michigan jersey.

You make it seem as if the most talented players are only money-hungry idiots who can’t possibly be bothered with academics. Are some only in it for $$ given the current landscape? Of course but if you expect every recruit that is NBA lottery pick-ready after their freshman or sophomore years to stay on as a Graduate-level student athlete, boy have I got a time share in scenic Muncie, Indiana I’d love to cut you in on.

Hold up. Prior to UK’s…

Hold up. Prior to UK’s glorious failure tonight, nobody would’ve considered Calipari even an option so your comparison with Medved is a relatively new train of thought that is less than an hour old and one I don’t see a lot of people directly comparing.

I’d also say the guy has zero redeemable personality traits the common fan, outside of UK diehards, enjoy. Would you consider him? Idk, sure? But he has an embarrassment of riches every year and his teams should be Final Four or bust at the very least. You gotta admit that lately, he’s kinda bust. He’s obviously a great recruiter but he puts an NBA G league team in terms of talent on the floor every time they play. Hell, his bench could compete with most mid-major programs but if the proof is in the pudding, his missing the sugar.

Calipari is a great…

Calipari is a great recruiter and I’ll stop there.

But but but they make…

But but but they make billions in the NBA and get extra contracts. lol

The smarminess of John Cal is gross and if you ever needed a coach that clearly only cares about $$ for himself and players, here you go!

Anyone see Calipari’s pre…

Anyone see Calipari’s pre-tournament press conference? It was oozing with privilege and had the charm of a used-car salesman desperate pitch.

Thanks Oakland U for that one!

So you’re saying Medved…

So you’re saying Medved would turn down the opportunity to recruit tall/big players because of his system? I’m pretty sure most coaches make do with the resources they have. If there’s a 7ft C out there who handles the ball like like a PG and shoots like a SF, I’d bet he’d kick the tires…

Also Beilein absolutely had some sizable players during his time as well. Go look through his rosters over his tenure and tell me he didn’t have skilled athletes with size. Do you need 275 lb polar bears to be considered good sized? Point is I’d gladly order up a Beilein 2.0 over what has recently been served.

Sorry but just in the Elite…

Sorry but just in the Elite 8 is closer to hyperbole than reality. I’m not trying to get into a whole thing here and the job is still sought after but the shine is off. That was 3 years ago and we live in a “what have you done for me lately” society.

I also never said the job is Northwestern-level but it might not be a top destination at the moment.

Possibly but there’s not a…

Possibly but there’s not a clear candidate imo and that’s the issue. I’m not even sure UM has the top vacant HC position right now so they may have to resort to best coach available.

Medved isn’t the only creative college basketball coach in the country but his players play hard, create quality offensive possessions typically (outside of tonight and few times this season) and play defense.

Again, there’s other good coaches who do this too, but the track record is there and a back to basics approach should be welcomed with open arms.

And another thing; I’m not…

And another thing; I’m not convinced if Love or Shannon Jr. we’re on the Michigan roster, the team would be in a better position.

Also for those saying they…

Also for those saying they wouldn’t take Medved because he builds his team mostly through diamond-in-the-rough transfers or portal players, what do you think the next UM coach is going to have to do?

For those saying they wouldn’t take him because he couldn’t bring anybody worth a shit with him, I’m willing to take a flyer or two on players who are well coached and show grit than what Juwan served up this past year.

If you give Medved the resources at Michigan, I’d have faith he could eventually build a good team that’s cohesive and dynamic.

Note: I know I criticized him a bit earlier in the thread but that doesn’t mean he’s a horrible candidate or deserves an instant pass.

Ok. Now I’d be officially…

Ok. Now I’d be officially concerned about Medved. If you’re 6/25 from 3-point range, you have to direct your PG to push or rotate the ball around more than they did in this game.

Their top player, and maybe the best PG in CSU history, Stevens had a dreadful game against UVA and followed it up with an equally shit game tonight. UT played pretty tough defense but he looks closer to a freshman than graduate senior in the biggest games. Couldn’t have it.

Nothing against UT but a baseline CSU team that doesn’t turn the ball over 18 fucking times probably makes this a game.

If CSU even went 10/27 in…

If CSU even went 10/27 in the first half (which is still crap shooting %) instead of 5/27, this game is even.

Glad they called that elbow…

Glad they called that elbow to the head a flagrant 1 on UT. That was the second time in the game I heard “unintended elbow to the head”.

I don’t think he tried to land an elbow but if your elbow is perpendicular to your shoulder and you’re 6’3-6’4, chances are you’re going to hit somebody close to their head.

I wish.

Try 5/27 and 3…

I wish.

Try 5/27 and 3 total points in the remaining 14:45 of the 1st half. lol @ using the word remaining as if they had little time to score.

At this point, they just need to chip away but turnovers are just slaughtering these lambs. Err, I mean Rams.

Uhh 11?! first half points?…

Uhh 11?! first half points? 25-3 run for UT?

Can’t put that on Medved as the Rams are not getting bad looks but it’s safe to say their balls just haven’t dropped… at least not until they mature a little bit.

I’m sorry, I don’t…

I’m sorry, I don’t understand…

I guess but then what’s the…

I guess but then what’s the point of having anti-virus software?

So they basically punted…

So they basically punted every time they took the ball down the court?

Reminds me of a similar sports strategy I’ve seen before…

Considering Michigan BB had…

Considering Michigan BB had their worst season since the Johnson administration and had to fire a legendary player as HC in the process, I’d probably sit this play out and try again next year (but probably not).
