Hurley is trash…

Hurley is trash. Demonstratively clapping after Edey missed a FT, yelling at him after he set a good pick. Total garbage behavior.

I thought Keady had a pretty good sense of humor off the court, and was fairly likeable. Definitely grumpy on the sideline.

Agree. I was surprised…

Agree. I was surprised people thought he seemed likeable.

I believe you can get them…

I believe you can get them weekend mornings at the Roadhouse too, and a lot of their desserts are built around their donuts. With that said, I think serve 1 kind of donut there (traditional, maybe with sugar coating.. Can't remember).

I'm partial to Dimo's, but…

I'm partial to Dimo's, but DJ's is good too. IIRC, think DJ's is basically the same recipe as Dexter Bakery as DJ's is owned by the former Dexter Bakery owners.

We've had a lot of S&C…

We've had a lot of S&C coaches at Michigan that we were convinced are amazing - RR's guy, Sanderson, Herbert. I don't think it's an easy job, but maybe not nearly as hard to find a good one than the head coaching position.

Probably sees the Bayern job…

Probably sees the Bayern job opening up in a couple months and wants a break before diving in there.

When Martha took over the…

When Martha took over the team, it started the process of cleaning up the WCF boys club and they actually started trying to function like a grown up organization. Obviously, Quinn & Patricia were not the answer, but Sheila's made great hiring decisions and it sounds like the cultures much better, which she should get credit for.

BS horsecollar call, plus not starting the clock after that penalty which would've ended the half after the play. Typical Dallas ref show.

The less, the better.

I never visited, but worked with a bunch of people in Huntsville. By all accounts, it's a fairly cool town that's stuck in Alabama.

If Texas loses, I'd think they're drop all week long.

He's a very good passer.

It's also a no-win career move, aside from protection against retaliation, so it likely was very serious.

In fairness, watching the…

In fairness, watching the iron bowl right now and they are also refusing to call very obvious holding calls. Kinda a rivalry game thing, I guess

What I thought was especially weak was their refusal to call illegal motion on the big Xavier Johnson 1st down. The TE in motion moved a good yard or 2 towards the line before the ball was snapped & should've been very obvious to the line judge. Just cowardly officiating.

Ryan Day is giving us gifts…

Ryan Day is giving us gifts with his 4th down decision making.

Pretty evenly matched so far. Need to throw a bit more on 1st & 2nd down, but protecting the QB continues to be an issue.

Dug looks like a real Big 10…

Dug looks like a real Big 10 POY candidate. Probably need Edey to struggle, but he's that good. On the flip side, the dropoff without him is very severe. It will only improve somewhat when Llewynen comes back.

Still, if Dug stays healthy, this team could be a shockingly high seed.

Reed is looking much…

Reed is looking much improved and obviously a big upgrade on D. Not sure we're really missing Hunter at all.

Hard to put the blame on the OC when their QB is so bad. Also, Franklin is an offensive guy, so...

Michigan draws a massive…

Michigan draws a massive national audience. Only OSU can really compare. The Big Ten will lose a massive amount of revenue if Michigan leaves - they care.

(this was supposed to be in reply to another reply, not to the OP)

I think this is supposed to…

I think this is supposed to be a "fun" post, but it kinda bums me out. I am very much in the "Big Ten was better when it was just 10 or 11" teams bandwagon. If we moved to a conference where we no  longer played our natural rivals, it would be a huge bummer. So all options outside of the Big Ten suck.

With that said, it would surprise me if the Big Ten does anything more than fining UM. And then it's just a question of whether the NCAA cares to do anything. In the end, it might help us with all the PR we're getting, plus our rivals look like a bunch of whiny snitches.

If Michigan gets hammered…

If Michigan gets hammered for this, are we going to see an arms race of boosters funding private eyes to dig up dirt on rival institutions? It's f-ing assinine.

Wisconsin has probably been…

Wisconsin has probably been more consistently strong than any Pac-12 team over the past 30 years, except maybe USC (obvs, their highs have been higher), so your reasons for putting Oregon ahead of them are kind of contradictory. Obviously USC's historical success.

I always thought of Washington as being the more "prestigious" program out of the 2 pacific northwest schools. But honestly, I think all the west coast programs are trending downward, and joining the Big 10 might not help that.

You've very accurately…

You've very accurately described the issues with travel soccer - burnout & over training are 2 big issues. Traveling across state for games when kids are in 1st grade is honestly ridiculous. We should be investing in local programs that ensure kids receive training from qualified coaches in town. Training should be fine and not overly competitive at the early age groups, but with a focus on developing technical skills. Things like futsal are great for this.

I'm mostly spitballing ideas. Looking at what small countries like the Netherlands, Belgium and Iceland do for their youth programs would instructive in how we should be structuring our youth programs.

Was going to suggest Lübeck…

Was going to suggest Lübeck as well for the same reasons.

That's rec soccer here, and…

That's rec soccer here, and honestly that's how parents should view all rec sports. Travel parents are competitive enough, but the travel soccer system has been poor at developing players, as they are mostly about winning games, and young players often quickly burn out.

This. For u6 & u8 it's all…

This. For u6 & u8 it's all working on their technical skills through fun games, and giving them as many touches on the ball in practice as possible. You can talk through very basic tactics a bit, but don't jam it down their throats. Kids at a young age don't really see what's going on in the field beyond where the ball is, and some of them don't even see that, so don't expect too many successful give and goes - though passing and receiving is certainly a good skill to teach at the u8 level.

I like the games blueinsconsin suggested. For u8, I also liked doing 2v1 drills with 1 defender and 2 forwards trying to score on a small goal. Make the defender try to win the ball and pass it to you. This will incorporate ball winning skills and encourage aggressiveness for the defender, and dribbling & shooting skills. You can also start talking through positioning off the ball and passing to the open teammate, although don't expect those ideas to click for them quickly.

Keep in mind, that kind of drill can be really intense for young kids, especially if you have some kids that struggle with their emotions. Usually liked to do 1 or 2 competitive drill like that, but the rest more "fun" and less intense, and also scrimmage.

I think he's just trying to…

I think he's just trying to talk Kansas up a bit to a Kansas reporter, and the comparisons he makes with Michigan doesn't even put Michigan in a bad light, unless you have extremely thin skin.

Otoh, under Greg, we only…

Otoh, under Greg, we only advanced to the WC on tiebreakers where the US often looked toothless. Not sure why we're bringing him back, tbh. Maybe the federation can't afford a decent coach.

I would take Federer at his…

I would take Federer at his peak over Djokovic, but in terms of greatest career, they are the definitely the top 2.

I also think the 70s-early 90s was a more competitive era with a much deeper pool of talented players, and each of the grand slams required more specialized skills - especially the French & Wimbledon. Federer, Nedal & Djokovic would undoubtedly have been top players in that era, and they did mostly need to compete against each other, but I suspect they would've only made it to 12-18 GS titles, instead of over 20.

He's a good Xs & Os coach,…

He's a good Xs & Os coach, but allegedly hates recruiting and it was starting to show with their roster. Him taking an analyst position is curious. Perhaps he really wants nothing to do with recruiting.

Yup, the Celtics were very…

Yup, the Celtics were very aggressively denying him looks from the 3 point line, and he made them pay with drives to the rim and backdoor cuts. I don't think I've seen that part of his game at the NBA level...but I also hadn't seen a team play him as aggressively as the Celtics. Probably an overreaction on their part to Dunc having a nice game in game 2.

He left England's last U21…

He left England's last U21 camp with an "injury" and flew to the US to hang out with the USMNT during the last international window, and removed references to the England NT from his social media. It would probably be a surprise if he didn't accept a US call up at this point.

Honestly, England's young striker pool is not that great, so this would be a nice steal from England. I do think Pepi will give him some stiff competition though, and we have some young up and comer in Liverpool's youth system that is scoring like a goal a game.

Good call on China gate. Loved that place and was sad it shut down.

That's they're original location - they've been there for at least 30 years. The second one under u-towers was relatively short lived.

Yup, all about $$$$. May as…

Yup, all about $$$$. May as well just throw Michigan, OSU, USC, UCLA, PSU and Notre Dame in one division and call it "Big Ten, Professional Division" and the others will be Big Ten Double & Triple A. All games in the pro division can be on Fox and ABC (or whoever will be televising our games). If a player does well in the lower divisions, they can be called up by their pro affiliate. MSU, of course, will be one of Michigan's affiliates.

This is just how the US…

This is just how the US Soccer Federation handles everything: extremely poorly.

So many reasons that is a…

So many reasons that is a dumb statement.

1. Obviously, the classness of it.

2. You could make a similar statement about 80%+ coaches, or heck, any ordinary worker. Most people would leave there current job for a better one or one they've always desired.

3. Maybe the coach isn't as important as the school & program to a lot of kids?

4. NIL money is also likely becoming as important as the coach.

5. A player can now easily transfer if a coach leaves.

Hopefully this clears things up for Coach Marrow.

I might be remembering this…

I might be remembering this wrong, but didn't Harbaugh insist on reporting directly to the president when he was hired? I'm not sure if there's really anything unusual about this, other than the actual reporting structure, which predates Ono & Warde.

Ahh, the ole 7.5-3-2. The…

Ahh, the ole 7.5-3-2. The most covered NFL achievement, one that every schoolboy dreams of accomplishing. Undoubtedly, this will be discussed for millennia to come.

Did UM not clear him to play…

Did UM not clear him to play, or only refused to cover the surgery? I haven't heard a clear answer, only speculation.

I thought McCarthy missed a…

I thought McCarthy missed a couple zone reads - 1 where he could've kept it for about a 20 yard TD, and another where he could've handed it off for a big gain. Didn't matter, going to the zone read changed our offense in the 2nd half, imo, and led to the blowout in the 4th.

This is what my diehard…

This is what my diehard Wisconsin fan dad told me when Chryst was fired. They were not happy with the way Chryst was running things & recruiting, and were afraid Leonhard would bolt at the end of the season, so they gave him a trial run with the intention of hiring him if he didn't fall on his face. Note, none of this is insider knowledge (as far as I'm aware), just what my dad told me who follows the Badgers as closely as anyone on this board follows UM.

Umm, I agree? Harbaugh…

Umm, I agree? Harbaugh should answer the same way if asked, tbh. Need to massage the messaging our way a bit to battle against the folks that think it should be a 4 team SEC playoff.

McDaniel looks like Frankie…

McDaniel looks like Frankie Collins 2.0. He's going to need a few months to adjust to the college game, but even then he's probably going to be solely a distributor. He needs a ton of work on his finishing - out of control and doesn't know how to use his body.

I didn't realize Broussard…

I didn't realize Broussard was once the Pac POTY. I was about to say that him getting the start to open the season was maybe Tucker playing favorites with an ex-Buff, but him being an ex-POTY makes it somewhat more acceptable. With that said, he clearly isn't a Big Ten caliber back anymore. Berger is better, but not great. Collins is the only back that runs hard (by my eyes), but is more of a FB. Their weakest group of running backs in a long time.

Don't know about dirtbag,…

Don't know about dirtbag, but I wish he wouldn't do OSU games.

Not great for Herbstreit…

Not great for Herbstreit talking about the benefits of an extra year in the weight room for Henderson after a head-to-head collision that clearly severely injured the defender. This was after Herbsteit's overselling of blaming Stroud's awful pick 6 on the receiver.

Interesting. I feel like my…

Interesting. I feel like my USMNT fandom provides me a rooting interest in the games overseas. I haven't been able to latch on to an individual club - when a US player moves on, my interest in the club drops. I usually enjoy watching the club games more than the US team - just a much, much higher level of soccer than CONCACAF and almost all their friendlies. It's likely a strange way to follow the sport, but it makes it fun too with all the US players overseas now.

With that said, I generally root for the success of the player, and don't really think about how it will help their position on the US team.
