OT: A Tradition Unlike Any Other...Sunday, at The Masters (Open Thread)
Hello Friends...
TV: CBS
Stream: The Official App of The Masters and http://www.masters.com/en_US/watch/index.html
Let's enjoy one of the more relaxing days in sports.
Go spieth and bubba. Bad days for dj, jt and Fowler
Rooting for Rickie today
Went with a friend on Sunday last year. Really great experience. Picture perfect even without the azaleas in bloom.
It should be on everyone's bucket list even if you aren't a golf fan. Get there early enough to set up your chairs on the 18th hole. Spend the rest of the day walking around taking it all in. Drink a lot of beer and water so you can keep the souvenir cups. They've held up real well to frequent use and washing.
Entered the course directly on to the 13th green / 14th tee box. First site in the distance was Amen Corner. Unbelievable feeling to see it live. Beers surprisingly cheap ($4).
Glad the elitists at Augusta National gave us common folk a brief moment to view their course.
Least favorite major by far but still watching.
Not sure why. You are getting to see the vast majority or all of the rounds of the top guys in contention.
Restricting TV coverage in 2018 is ridiculous. Behind the times as Augusta National has always been.
Restricting how?
Exactly.
How is one of the only sporting events with this limited of an amount of commercial breaks restricting?
How in the world do you enjoy The Masters so much less than the PGA?
Since the conversation has been started, here is my list:
1. The Open Championship (British Open)
2. The Masters
3. The Players (Yes, I’ll count it as a major)
(Slight gap here)
4. The U.S. Open
5. The PGA Championship
It's the most pretentious sporting event in both history and present day.
You sound like a fun person
Boo this man.
You need to get yourself to a horse race. You'd have a ball.
and be the match play tournament it once was. It would re-establish its prestige and would make the Grand Slam even more prestigeous. It has become the forgotten major, and by far the least prestigeous
If they can have a match play tournament, they can have a match play major!
Anybody but Patrick Reed please.
I know I can't believe everything on the internet about someone, but there's a fair amount of evidence that suggests he's a sack of shit.
Like what? He was a pitbull in the Ryder Cup.
Cheated during match play in college, stole from teammates, cocky with nothing to back it up.
His sister posted on Twitter how his parents spent a bunch of money on his golf lessons (obviously, they're expensive) and gave up a lot of their time to support him and he's basically disowned them now. It's the family's word against his but it doesn't look good.
He's also a notre dame fan.
Hard to completely dislike someone who is universally hated by uga fans.
UGA for being a low life POS. Teammates unanimously hated him. Went to Augusta State where his new teammates unanimously hated him. He refuses to talk to his family and hasn't for years. Got them escorted out of a professional event once when he learned they were there. The list goes on and on. Just an all-around shithead.
I read the SI article about him and his wife and his family too. Regardless of what he did when he was 20 years old, he’s been killer for the US team. I loved watching him at the Ryder Cup in ‘16 at Hazeltine. Lifelong Mickelson fan, but now I’m all good with Reed, Fowler, Speith winning. Anyone but Justin Rose (complete cock at the Ryder Cup).
Best napping day of the year!
Precisely!
Rough start for the leaders. Chaos, please!
Chaos is a ladder.
hard to focus on golf
normal weather most of the year in Moscow?
The Masters doesn’t start until the back nine on Sunday.
He's been on fire the entire round.
Isn’t any tradition unlike any else?
And the beauty of the course makes this the very best of the four majors, imho.
does anyone else get the feeling Jordan might win this?
He's on a tear today.
Jordan Spieth is starting to make this exciting.
another birdie for Spieth. A great round will become a legendary round if he catches Reed and wins The Masters.
Watch out for Ricky Fowler, though---he's now only 2 back with enough holes left to make up the difference.
Spieth catches Reed at 14 under.
Absurd. Spieth can par out for a 63 and might win. Realistically he probably has to birdie 17 or 18 to have a chance. Reid still has birdie-able holes left.
Wow Spieth is having a great round!
Looks defeated out there. This feels like the Tiger Woods’ effect from the late 90s and early 2000s. Spieth is that special.
That changes the narrative a bit.
I don't get why they keep seeing that. The masters is a relatively new tradition. My grandpa is older than the masters.
That doesn’t mean it isn’t like any other.
Will look back at the two rounds he gave away on Friday and Saturday.
b ut h'll also realize all golfers don't have their best stuff for four days at every tournament and he gets 800,000 for two solid rounds. Not a bad pay day at all.
He’s at the point where I’m sure he doesn’t care that much about tournament winnings- especially when so close to winning
