Cade overachieved during this season and hats off to him!  I hope JJ can take the reins next season.  Could be pretty special with him, Corum and Edwards.  GO BLUE!!

Both players are capable of bringing UM back to the playoffs. They may be 1a and 1b going into fall, with JJ winning the battle and Cade getting some time. Cade is smart enough to realize if he doesn’t win the starting job, he is going to able to grad transfer after next year’s National Championship. If we are going to play scenarios out, might as well include the ceiling scenario.

I have been a Cade fan all the way. I don’t think the game was on him. The offensive line wasn’t blocking well, and Gattis called a bad first half—pressing the trickery and not leaning on Haskins. I expect Gattis learns from the calling like he did other times.

I think JJ should be able to overcome Cade as the starter by Fall camp, but he has to get better at reading defenses in order to do so. Edwards and Anthony will start with Bell and CJ and Schoonmaker. Getting an All American center to come in with this offensive line getting better next year—the team has just started.

Cade is part of that—he is a fighter, and I don’t think he just quits if JJ wins the job (it won’t be that Cade loses it, or that JJ is handed it).

If JJ's floor isn't higher than Cade's floor next season, we should probably blame the coaching.  I share the opinion with many others that Cade didn't have to do anything wrong to lose the job. JJ is the more talented player and if he elevates his floor in the off season to anywhere close to Cade's - doesn't even have to be higher - then it's worth starting him because his ceiling is considerably higher than Cade's.

I guess we will see who is the best in spring ball and in August. If it is close, Harbaugh needs to start JJ. RPO will be great with JJ. Cade will still be needed since running QBs tend to get injured.

The QB choice will be less about “who is better” than “who fits better.” The offense needed stability and efficiency this year as the defense settled into a new system. That was Cade.

Next year, that is likely JJ. The O could be very explosive with the right trigger man. RB should be fantastic with Corum and Edwards. The OL should be even more reliable in the 2nd yr with Moore, return of 3 starters, the addition of Olu by spring ball, and quality depth. WR corps will be a step above this year’s group if Bell is healthy, Anthony in 2nd yr, CJ & Wilson hitting their stride, and talented frosh for depth.

I believe this off season will be big for JJ. If he's able to make some more strides, I could absolutely see him coming out on top. He's a more complete QB than Cade. Not trying to knock Cade he was what we.needed this year, JJ is a game changer

It’s pretty simple. The things JJ needs to improve on can be coached and learned with experience, the things Cade needs to improve on mostly can’t be improved on because they involve athletic ability that you either have or you don’t. Unless he gets lazy and doesn’t put in the work, JJ should be the starter next season.

I hope McCarthy takes a stranglehold on the QB position and keeps it. Cade’s primary selling point seems to be that he is a good leader and doesn’t often turn the ball over. In my view, that is not exactly a ringing endorsement. Those are the things you say to explain why an average QB has the job. I want a QB who has won the job primarily because his excellence on the field demands it over any other QB on the roster.
