I'm with you. I don't know if it'll be back next year or not but i liked it. I ESPECIALLY liked it when it was cranked up and played loudly over the screaming fans waving maize pom-poms immediately following the end of "UTL-11".
Anybody who was there and says they didnt get chills is either a liar, deaf or was passed out That song was MADE for that exact moment.
Definitely didn't get chills from hearing that song at the end of the game because I'm pretty sure I was yelling something along the lines, " NOOOOOOOOO DEAR GOD WHY". We already have a song made for that moment called "The Victors".
In terms of OP, good for Mike Martin, but it doesn't change my opinion on the song or band.
I'm sure you were yelling "NOOOOOOOO DEAR GOD WHY" after we just won one of the most exciting games ever...
While I won't ever buy a Pop Evil CD, I loved the song cranked up with the video on the big screens. It got me even more pumped for the game than I already was.
I can say with absolute certainty that the reason I say things like "stop being old and stupid" is because I hate old people. Hate 'em. Absolutely.
Or, I exaggerate most things I say because it's funny to people with an e-sarcasm detector.
Yep, I missed the sarcasm there. If you say its there, I believe you and my bad.
is the main reason for keeping it. Better than AC/DC? NO!! Better than having AC/DC played at Michigan Stadium like it is practically everywhere else? No doubt!
And, no, I'm not suggesting any No Doubt songs get piped in during Michigan Football Saturdays...

Having supposed good taste in music is totally subjective. I'm glad you think you have good taste in music, but who doesn't think they have good taste in music?
Aside from that, he's a young dude. People's musical taste change as they get older. I'm sure he will wise up since he's a bright young hulk.

I'm not a fan of the group as it isn't my type of music. Yet, what is the alternative? Remember the point of this experiment was to fire the crowd up and for good reason. For too many years Michigan fans have made little noise and the Big House has been far from intimidating. This group was a move to break that tradition of silence and fire people up. So what alternatives do you all suggest? A return to tradition in this case is not the answer. In this area Michigan needs to progress, not regress.

They played next to Hineygate, in 2009, for Ohio vs USC. They're not real Michigan fans... they go where the $$ points them.

I'm old (season tickets since '77 and same seats since '80), I like old music as long as it's good music, and from the little I've heard and the much I've read about Pop Evil, they probably do suck.
But that song? I love it! I hope it's played at The Big House for many more years, I know I get pumped up, and it looks like an overwhelming majority of the 112000+ fans each game get pumped up, too. Don't get me wrong, I would love it if they cut in half the amount of so-called 'sports anthems' that are blasted out each game, but keep this one! And Sweet Caroline? I like Neil Diamond, but when they play that at Michigan Stadium, it does absolutely nothing for me!
Besides, how much chance is there that I ever convince DB to play Frank Zappa's Catholic Girls when NOtre Dame runs out on the field? it might pump me up, but 50% of the crowd would have a cow, 40% of the crowd would be clueless, and 10% of us would love it---and what musician/group has 1/10th the talent of Zappa these days?
At least they only play it once. A person can smile and ignore something for two minutes, but Michigan Football has literally ruined the seven nation army games for me.
Pop Evil who sings The Monster You Made Me I love that song.
All I need to get me going in the stadium is some MMB and football being played on the field. Again, that's just me.
I just like the fact that they aren't conformists beholden to their record label and corporate masters, they just blaze their own trail and make really great music.
Oh wait, they're just Nickelback sponsored by Hot Topic.
I probably wouldn't like it as much if we had had a crappy season, but we went undefeated at home, and I feel like this season was overall superior in stadium atmosphere to any others.
It's not so much about the lyrics as it is the music. It's rock, it gets you pumped up. And after the reaction it got last year, I'm pretty sure more people liked it than didn't like it. Watch this and tell me you didn't get pumped.
I didn't know I had to conform to Mike Martin's taste in things.
I wonder what he thinks I should wear tomorrow?
"Why can't I like Pop Evil?" I can. I can also drink hemlock. I don't plan on doing either anytime soon. I hope this helps.

Don't understand why so many people have to express their hatred of music. The music I listen to is not represented in the music awards but that's fine with me. As long as it's popular enough for the bands I like to make a career of it and continue to make new music I'm happy. A few posters had a big smile on their face when they saw this thread just to post some negative, not needed, poor comment.

The difference between vigorously disliking a song you randomly come across and vigorously disliking a song commissioned and featured by the athletic department is pretty big. Only in the latter case is personal embarrasment at stake. It's not just that focus-group rock songs like "In the Big House" are really unpleasant for me to listen to, it's that I have a real sense of shame (however insignificant) when they're part of some cultural thing that I voluntarily associate with.
Think of "We are ND". The reason most people here are aware of the song isn't just that it's preposterously bad by most standards; the reason is that it's preposterously bad and important people working for Notre Dame thought that it would be a really good thing to associate themselves with. And from there we can reason about what incredible twats Domers are and great mirth can be had.
In the end, I realize this issue is of pretty miniscule importance, and I don't really give much of a shit. But if I have to live in a world where Pop Evil exists, I'd prefer that my cultural links to them were minimal.
