It’s worth noting that the seniors at mention in this article weren’t Mel’s recruits. We’ve seen culture changes after a coaching change play out in pretty ugly ways in other sports - heck, it just came out recently about Auburn football - and I cannot not wonder at least a bit about how this plays into things with regard to that particular aspect.

What are the allegations and what are the facts? If we are firing people over allegations, that is wrong. If we are firing them over facts, that is correct. We've become a society that tries to ruin people without one fact, just hearsay and allegations. I haven't read the report, so I can't say what is a fact and what isn't in this and it may come out that the facts are he has committed wrongdoing worthy of firing. But man, I hope all of you that haven't actually seen a fact yet don't have your lives ruined because someone didn't like you and levied some allegations towards you.

This is such a thoughtful and spot on post. The fact is that this report cleared Mel of the single thing it was tasked with investigating and in so doing unearthed and/or passed along to the University some allegations that necessitate further investigation (but did not establish conclusions on). So, yes: the things people are running with as “facts” are not facts and you are absolutely right.

I encourage everyone to read the report. Mr. Shields seems to have been a very bad egg that spread a lot of misinformation. Very disgruntled individual.
