OT: 49ers look foolish, hire Jim Tomsula
Per Adam Schefter.
http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/9323/jim-tomsula
He's been with the organization since 2007, and he "won't meddle with personnel decisions," but he has no head coaching experience (unless you include 1 year with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe and one game as an interim in SF). Smart, San Francisco. Real smart.
But hey, your stupidity is our gain.

why not hire ME as head coach? I'll just fill out my staff with good people and I'll be fine, right?

I'm not sure we had championship-level coaching in the secondary. Front seven, yes.

This implies that SF's incompetent front office will suddenly stop fucking everything up. Doubt that will happen.
Pittsburgh's strength is found in the Rooneys' continuity. The 49ers are led by a jackass who was born on third but thinks he hit a triple.

What a Marinelli-esque hire. Did the 9ers consult Matt Millen on this one?

I feel like he would be a mediocre hire for somewhere like Purdue. But an NFL team??
January 14th, 2015 at 7:28 PM ^
I feel like he'd be a bad hire even for somewhere like Purdue. Even Purdue should be able to get someone who has at least been a coordinator somewhere IMO.

I just can't wrape my head around this one.

Jed York is a no-nuts silver-spoon-in-mouth-born jackass who couldn't stand the fact that all of the 49ers success was being attributed to Harbaugh. So how do you deal with that? Hire a no-name defensive-line coach as your new head-coach. Now he's going to PROVE that ANYONE can be successful coaching his amazing franchise.
Hell, the team practically coaches itself, due to the amazing front office!

Why they ever gave Harbaugh up, how they never could've put aside their differences and made that relationship work so they could win some damn football games, I will never understand.
The 49ers front office will regret ever letting him go.

Hoke is more qualified to coach the Niners than Tomsula is.
January 14th, 2015 at 8:36 PM ^
Michigan = 2 Harbaugh's
San Fran = 0 Harbaugh's
We win!!!
January 14th, 2015 at 8:38 PM ^
Hahahaha Harbaugh!

The battle of the Bay Area just got entertaining for those not invested in the Raiders or 49ers. It is interesting how the second generation ownership sometimes tank what their parents have built.
January 14th, 2015 at 8:50 PM ^
To be fair to the "second generation" with the Raiders, Al was doing just fine tearing everything down on his own before the kids took over. Not to say they aren't keeping that part of the legacy going.

All I can say is: Thank you Niners, for being a bunch of arrogant suits who sent Jim Harbaugh home to Michigan.
Really, Jed & company. Thank you.

We all knew the SF management was highly incompetent. But holy mother of god this is a hilarious level of bad.

Do you think Brian would be interested in opening a Torch and Pitchfork store in S.F. ? We could make a killing.
January 14th, 2015 at 11:01 PM ^
If this comment is by the Brian we know and love, he may be already laying the ground work for that store:
"WHO'S GOT IT JEDDER THAN US??!!?"
January 14th, 2015 at 10:35 PM ^
better not just win...but win with class
whatever that means
January 15th, 2015 at 12:02 AM ^
winning while giving all the credit to the front office.
January 15th, 2015 at 12:21 AM ^
Even a dumb hire like Hoke had the guy with some relevant head coaching experience and ties to Michigan. But the 49ers front office literally chased off their best HC in decades and one of the best in the game so they could promote a 'yes man'.
I will laugh maniacally as the 49ers decent into chaos. Prediction: 49ers go 8-8 this year before the wheels fall off in 2016 and they go 4-12
January 15th, 2015 at 12:36 AM ^
they hired Tomsula because he had no ties to Harbaugh at all. He was there before Harbaugh. So Roman and Fangio will now leave as well. They want to purge all Harbaugh coaches from the team entirely.
This is the ultimate in cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Unless there is a third team I've forgotten.
SF only has to beat the raiders to be the best team in Cali. Given they're working hard to try to regress past the raiders it seems.
January 15th, 2015 at 11:45 AM ^
There is also the San Diego Chargers.

and he's gettin roasted on sports talk radio here already...one of the local ones cut it at 42m it was so bland and nonsubstantial

@JohnMiddlekauff: Damn Greg Papa said he heard from NFL sources that the #49ers had a verbal agreement to make Adam Gase the HC & backed out last minute

York is a fool. Our gain.
