Never gave me an answer but I took that to mean if he had full support he would be a lifer here. Now I understand Jim actually went to HS out in cali, and had gauged NFL interest every year. The on field coaching was Ryan Osborn overstepping his role, and the former coach who is no longer cooperating is a big middle finger from JH and the NCAA got their feelings hurt. JH gets ran out of town and fatass gets his spot on the CFB playoff chair. I think I'm going to be sick.

Adjusting my personal expectations for what "recruiting" is in today's CFB landscape. Our AD has made his stance on NIL very clear, and personally I think that alone gets Michigan off of some of the top prospects lists every year. It is my opinion that SM will try to recruit similar style to JH. Find under scouted players they feel like fit the system and will work hard. I'm fine with that as long as we still pull in a JJ, or Donovan Edwards type per class. If UM continues to use the portal as well as they have I think "recruiting ranking" means less. For example the '23 class was ranked like 18th or something but brought in Tuttle, Barner, Henderson, Nugent, Hinton, Hausman, Wallace, Stewart and James Turner. All of which played a key role in winning the National Championship. I would be suprised if any team brought in more talent in one year with recruiting/portal than UM did that year.
I think part of the point is JH was flirting with the NFL every year and now that it happend, instead of being ready with a coach in mind or potential staff hires its pretty obvious warde was caught with his pants down. Didn't interview 1 candidate for the most important position in our AD, just took the consensus that Moore is ready and ran with it. It goes beyond paying "x" amount of $ for assistants. Any high level coach is hyper competitive and not going to sign up to put themselves at a disadvatage such as no meaningful NIL program in place when our arch rival can say in a press conference it will take 10-20mil annually to keep a roster together and people go "yeah, makes sense.". JH was, IMO the 1 coach who could overcome UM's self inflicted restraints with his coaching connections and ability to demonstrate to HS kids he can put them in the NFL. Moore has none of those things and without a staff AT LEAST as good as JH's he is a total sitting duck. Absolute malpractice by Warde Manuel.

OP confirms what I thought about Warde being a part of the old guard "Leader's and Best", "This is Michigan" types. This is the type of institutional arrogance that has infected UM and especially athletics IMO. There are still plenty or areas the University can claim to be a leader or best in their respective field but athletics (yeah I know we just won a NC) is not one of them. I don't need to go through the list, OP did a great job of that, but what is Warde currently doing for our athletic department to be leaders or best in their field? He may not have been forced out but what message does it send when your boss lowered your salary, then in the midst of the best 3 year run in modern MI football history is no where to be found. Cool story bro alert: I have a friend who works in athletics, and was at UM during the Beilein years...long story short.. he is no longer around UM but still has good friends in the athletic dept. It's been pretty common knowledge that there is some breakdown in the Warde and JH relationship, to the point the new president had to take over contract talks. Warde didn't even show up to the football banquet to support the team. It's also common knowledge that Warde is no where to be found in support of any of Michigan's non revenue sports. To my surprise he claims Warde is also MIA with Juwan and the basketball program. Seeing as this was his hire, this one surprised me. So if he's not supporting our teams or negotiating contracts what IS he doing outside of having lunch with the jim stapleton's of the world. Warde should be fired. For one reason or another he has failed to keep Bakich, the Mel debacle, unable to keep Beilein here through retirement and now failing to keep JH here until he retires. You can argue counter points in all of those situations of course, but a better leader finds a way to make sure those guys have everything they want and need to run their programs in a way that benefits all.
In the height of BPONE I thought Ewers and Raiola were going to be the OSU QBs to keep the train rolling over MI and competing for NCs. Neither panned out. They can spend all the $ they want...it's not lack of talent...it's culture. You can't just try to build a "super roster" out of guys looking for the highest offer. Urban Meyer teams had more talent than these Day teams, but he also built his own culture of toughness there. 15-20 mil a year for recruits is not sustainable. Especially if Day loses to MI again....then that booster money turns to buyouts and new coaching searches.
