Some athletes are bigger…

Some athletes are bigger than the university they attended. Jesse Owens is one of those guys, Michael Phelps is another. They achieved their greatest accomplishments while representing their country, not the college attended. It doesn’t mean their football program doesn’t suck, because it does and always will.
Chris Spielman wanted to be a Wolverine, his dad wouldn’t let him. He gets a pass.

Yikes that was a bad beat…

Yikes that was a bad beat. Sorry, but I do like hearing these stories. I don’t know why. I don’t really like hearing about the winners, but I can listen to losing stories for hours. Maybe I should attend gambler’s anonymous just to listen to these stories.
You were basically betting that the Bruins wouldn’t score so you probably got odds at or above even money. Not a bad pick, just an unfortunate result. I wouldn’t let this discourage you. Wait until this happens on the final leg of a six team parlay that has a huge payout and you decline the substantial cash out the casino offers.

He graded out as one of the…

He graded out as one of the worst offensive tackles in the country last year. If he was a freshman we might be interested to see if he can be developed into a quality starter in a year or two, but as a one year grad transfer, there’s no way we will be interested. I doubt he could start on our scout team. If OSU pursues him, then they are desperate for a tackle.

I honestly thought Wimsatt…

I honestly thought Wimsatt had a lot of potential. The constant rotation was absolutely terrible for his development. I know you want to win games and you do what’s best for the team, but if they would’ve backed him and let him develop through his struggles, he may have been a difference maker for them.

Would he really come here to…

Would he really come here to be a depth piece? I’m guessing he’s at least being told he’s coming in with an opportunity for regular playing time.

I don’t like it, but I’m…

I don’t like it, but I’m still going to watch. If you want to brag that the students at my school are better at football than the students at your school, then you’ll need to start watching club football. Do we even have a team?

Google tells me that Central Georgia Technical College defeated Ohio state in the national championship game last year. I looked it up to see if it’s already been corrupted and I don’t think there’s a more confusing result to answer my question. Central Georgia Tech winning it all says no, but OSU being the runner up screams yes.

Kentucky likes to say, go to…

Kentucky likes to say, go to Michigan for nothing and where they have four guys just like you, or come here, get paid and be in the rotation from Day One and play in the SEC. For some guys, that second option isn’t so bad.

I think you’ve been watching…

I think you’ve been watching Buckeye Scoop on YouTube. We’re not going 7-5 next year. 10-2 on the low end. The stability is the culture and the players who continue it.
We didn’t lose 40 seniors. Michigan fans know this, but that’s what Buckeye Scoop claims….odd.

Also, national experts, not just UM media, tabbed this kid to Michigan. Using your theory, he what, got a call from Kentucky last night and they explained to him the sign-gate scandal and he was like, wow coach, I didn’t know Michigan was being investigated. Now that I know, I want to play for Kentucky. Maybe, but it’s probably a little more likely that he already knew about the investigation and probably discussed it with our coaches and was still ready to commit until the Kentucky coach called and mentioned a large wire transfer that will be sent when he signs…probably a little bag for at least giving a verbal, but something tells me we are just going to disagree about this.

This is old fashioned SEC…

This is old fashioned SEC style processing. Whether he left on his own or received encouragement from the staff to do so is irrelevant. The end result is best for both.

Actually they had a big …

Actually they had a big “update” the other day that said the death penalty is not on the table, but everything else; vacating games, loss of scholarships, show cause, etc. are in play. They also added that our side reached out regarding a negotiated settlement, but the NCAA isn’t interested in settling.
I don’t care what was alleged, the ncaa would never give Michigan the death penalty. We are too big and too successful for that punishment. We could be poisoning opponents and killing people, and we still wouldn’t get the death penalty. So any “update” referencing it is clearly fabricated.

At first it seems like this…

At first it seems like this kid can’t make up his mind, but then if you look at the roller coaster of events, it makes sense.  A little patience would’ve made the ride less bumpy. Instead of reacting and making a decision every single time something changes, maybe just wait until everything settles and then make one decision.

I love the draft and have…

I love the draft and have been watching it ever since we got cable tv and ESPN, but I find it comical that there are 32 organizations who are patting themselves on the back tonight because they all believe in the guys they picked. I’m not talking about the Lions or any team specifically, but just in general.
The fans might disagree but in their minds we are all a bunch of idiots that don’t understand football. Most of the guys picked these last few days will be out of the league in four years, but everyone thinks their organization got better today.

Agreed. We didn’t quite get…

Agreed. We didn’t quite get the record for number drafted, but does anyone know what the record is for the number of rookies making a roster from a single school? That’s not as flashy as the numbered drafted, but probably more impressive and more important. We might have a shot at that.

I’m not sure what’s going on…

I’m not sure what’s going on with Trieu deleting the Tweet, but if they are pursuing him, I would say it’s simply to add some depth. We are playing at least 14 games next year and if we want to play 15+ we will need quality bodies. Maybe he’s a guy that would be willing to walk-on if NIL covers tuition? No idea. I’m just throwing stuff out there.

The problem is their…

The problem is their recruiting directly conflicts with our culture. It’s one or the other. So far our method has been successful vs theirs, but we’ll see how it goes without Harbaugh and most of his staff.

Both were mentioned, but I…

Both were mentioned, but I remember reading Georgia was the leader and then OSU offered him like $2 million dollars. There’s an SI story from 1-17-24 declaring Georgia as the clear front runner.

These types of transfers don…

These types of transfers don’t really hurt. In the SEC these guys are processed out by staff so they can bring in a group of new guys to filter through. If they’re not going to see the field here, it’s best for both sides if they just go ahead and move on.

Chargers are handcuffed with…

Chargers are handcuffed with the rookie wage scale. Someone offered a big bag.

OSU put him on the back…

OSU put him on the back burner so they could chase Jordan Davison. It would be hilarious if he decides to stay home and play for USC or goes to the SEC. Then they’ll be left with their third choice.
I think Ryan Day really struggles with player evaluation and development. Example, he went prioritized McCord over McCarthy, Henderson over Edwards, some TE that may not even be on their team over Luke Lachey (who was not only a legacy, but his dad does the color commentary for their radio coverage - how don’t you offer that guy?) and probably many more that I don’t know about. I’m not saying they would’ve landed any of those guys, but he picked the wrong guy to prioritize every time. It’s a good sign that he selected Davison over Davis. It’s practically a guarantee that Davis will be great.

Hey OP, don’t let these…

Hey OP, don’t let these people ripping on you for creating a new thread to share your comment bother you. I’m glad to read your post, in particular about the kicker. Seems like a simple fix and was probably just a little anxious performing in the Big House in front of some fans. Better to catch it and fix it now than wait until 9/7 to discover it.

Texas will have to get up…

Texas will have to get up early for their ass kicking. I love winning a big game at noon, then have the rest of the day to gloat and watch other games.

His profile says he’s grown…

His profile says he’s grown 2 inches in the last 8 months, so in 16 months he could be 100%.

He was a 6th man but played…

He was a 6th man but played nearly 30 minutes a game. Shoots 41.6% from three. Versatile defender…can we get two of him? Seems like a great pickup and the kind of guy that was missing from the locker room this past season.

He wasn’t going to play here…

He wasn’t going to play here, so this is probably the best thing for everyone. He can go start at a MAC school and he’s not wasting a scholarship here. Good luck to him.

Baker’s “fair and square”…

Baker’s “fair and square” comment was in defense of notifying schools of an ongoing investigation, not in defense of our championship. Yes he said we won fair and square, but at the same time, he also said the evidence of cheating was very compelling.
I don’t think the ncaa will vacate any wins, but after issuing show cause penalties and probation over the cheeseburgers, who knows what they’ll do over sign-gate.

I was thinking the same…

I was thinking the same thing. We win a championship right when recruiting becomes all about NIL. Of course, it may have been that way for a while now, but it’s only recently become legal.

If his job wasn’t working…

If his job wasn’t working with young men and being a role model for them, I would say that the court’s punishment is sufficient, but there’s no way this can go unpunished. I hate to say it, but I think he needs to be let go.

To be fair, in the same…

To be fair, in the same interview he said they (ncaa) received evidence there was an elaborate sign stealing scheme and the evidence was very compelling. It’s not like he said the investigation is over, we won fair and square. There will be a punishment for it, but I think they will just affirm the suspension that was already served. I don’t see some massive loss of scholarships or anything like that, but we haven’t heard the last of sign-gate.

I’m guessing he’s leaving…

I’m guessing he’s leaving for immediate playing time. Between Edwards, Mullings, and our QB, there’s not a lot of carries available. If he wants to sit and learn from a couple of the best and then takeover in ‘25, then yeah, I would welcome him with open arms. Maybe he’ll fill the void Judkins left at Ole Miss.

I heard/read that Davis’ dad…

I heard/read that Davis’ dad or someone called out EJ Holland for a prediction or something. I think he was just trying to let his son have his moment whenever he announced his commitment. Holland took it personally and has ripped on Davis ever since. Davis put up the same numbers his junior and senior years, yet Holland switched from praise to criticism. I might have some of that wrong, but I’m guessing it’s the same guy. Davis dropped a lot in the rankings, but most of it was during the off season. I’ll take a QB that gets it done on the field, versus the guy who gets all of his accolades in shorts and struggles in real games.

Allegedly Devin Brown is…

Allegedly Devin Brown is currently QB1 at OSU and I’m sure Will Howard doesn’t want to spend his final year as OSU’s second string Quarterback. I get the argument that if he can’t start at OSU, why would we want him, but he’s a much better fit here than at OSU. He’s a very good runner and OSU doesn’t really use rpo’s anymore. He’s just an average thrower but if you add in his threat to run, he’s a weapon at QB.
OSU will probably string him along, and keep him around knowing Brown is injury prone, but Howard should jump in the portal again and he’s an instant upgrade over any QB in our room for our style of run-first offense.

I’m all for playing a weak…

I’m all for playing a weak OOC schedule. It might be chicken shit, but we already play an additional conference game compared to the sec and it allows us to get significant playing time to the younger guys which was key in developing our depth the last couple of years.

As a Commanders fan, this is…

As a Commanders fan, this is exciting and I’m hoping they don’t screw it up. Last year they basically didn’t have a first round pick because the guy they took in the first, may have been available in the second. The guy they took in the second would’ve probably been available in the third, and so on.

We want to eliminate the…

We want to eliminate the kickoff, but not the thirty eight commercials that bookend a kickoff, so this sort of works.

“His junior year, the ACL injury really hampered him,” Clemson receivers coach Tyler Grisham said recently. “He had a brace on all year. Whether he knew it or not, he just wasn’t 100 percent, and you could tell by his play. He was favoring it at times. If you’re playing in the slot, you have to have elite change of direction, explosion, suddenness in and out of your breaks, and he wasn’t able to perform at the level that he could because of that injury. He came back so fast and he was legitimately healthy enough to return to play. He had an 80-something-yard reception [against Syracuse] that he took the house and stiff-armed a dude and outran the rest of the defense. But, you look at the totality of his play and it wasn’t to his standard”

I’m not trying to be negative, just realistic. Even if he is that rare case that comes back quickly, the odds of him playing at an elite level this season aren’t very good. I hope he proves me (and everyone else who assumes he’s done for the year) wrong.

You really have to feel bad…

You really have to feel bad for the guy. He could’ve went pro, but decides to come back to be a leader with a whole new defensive staff and doesn’t even make it through spring practice. I guess if you’re a silver lining kind of person, right now is probably the best time to tear a ligament, if there is such a thing. He’ll miss the season, but should be back to 100% for a pro day or maybe spring ball if he decides to return again.

We should have a few open…

We should have a few open scholarships now and can go after a few players in the portal. I think it reopens April 15th and closes April 30th. So we should have a couple of weeks with some action here soon.

Per twitter he has announced that he will be entering the portal.

I’m with you. I don’t think…

I’m with you. I don’t think he can enter the portal yet. I believe he has to wait until the next window opens. I guess he could announce he’s going to enter the portal, but he would’ve had to made that decision a few weeks ago for him to actually be listed in the transfer portal.

Maybe. I wonder if the type…

Maybe. I wonder if the type of person who could actually give up watching college football follows it enough to even know about players transferring over and over again? We know about it because we follow college football 24/7/365 and although we could threaten to quit watching, but could any of us actually stop watching altogether? I don’t think I could, no matter how much I disagree with the changes they are making.

I feel better knowing Orji…

I feel better knowing Orji is locked in as the starter and knowing that RGIII is going to say something during a broadcast that will be followed by an insincere apology and suspension/firing.

I would understand if they…

I would understand if they had a program changing commit or an elite class that will instantly elevate them, but I don’t think that’s the case. If they lost their entire roster, but landed a top notch coach, it would be worth the risk, but they would probably be better off starting over. Hopefully we take the opposite approach (get an elite coach and let the roster turnover take place) and we’ll see which one worked better in a few years. My guess, (assuming we hire an established, sought after coach) in three years we will be a top five seed in the tournament and they will be looking for a new coach again.

Agreed. I was pulling for…

Agreed. I was pulling for Dusty May but when I learned about Medved’s system, I was more impressed with him. First from Brian’s breakdown and then from the Athletic article he referenced. I might be a bandwagon fan of the candidates during this search so I reserve the right to change my mind again.

It’s 10:10 p.m. est and…

It’s 10:10 p.m. est and Juwan Howard hasn’t been fired yet. What is taking so long?

…we held Nebraska to 70%…

…we held Nebraska to 70% shooting in the first half

I reserve the use of “we” for only the positives. When it’s bad, it’s “they”. Football = We are the National Champions. Basketball = They stink. I think it helps with my confidence.

This would be great news. I…

This would be great news. I don’t see why he would need a waiver.

2019 - RS

2020 - Covid

2021 - RS Freshman

2022 - RS Sophomore

2023 - RS Junior

2024 - RS Senior

Anyone know the current scholarship count? I understand there’s ways around the 85 cap, but I would guess we are under by a few and will be somewhat aggressive in the post-spring portal window.

Not to mention losing an…

Not to mention losing an ELITE head coach and replacing him with a first time head coach. Plus the majority of last year’s staff is gone. I don’t think next year is a complete rebuild, but we don’t have to go undefeated and win it all to have a successful year. Especially with the schedule our team has to play.

The other side of that is at…

The other side of that is at what position will we better next year? QB, WR, RB, and OL - No and most likely a big step down. We lost all of our depth on defense and need another corner and a nickel. Not to mention losing an elite Head Coach and most of his staff. Oh and our schedule is one of the toughest in the country. If we still had Harbaugh and staff, I would say 10-2 next year. Under Moore and his staff? We’ll see.

I wouldn’t complain if we…

I wouldn’t complain if we could make that happen. I would also offer Dusty May double whatever IU is going to offer him (assuming they move on from Woodson to get May) and at least make him say no.

True. I would take this…

True. I would take this football/basketball results combination every single year.

Should’ve fired him after…

Should’ve fired him after the Sanderson incident.
