Tough category, but for the kids on here:

Maybe not the greatest cast ever, but certainly the likes of which we will never see again. Particularly from the comedic talent subject.

If you've never seen it, it's worth your time.

All the best, and Go Blue!

Brandon and Karen are now…

Brandon and Karen are now the two least favorite names for babies in America

I'll take Cinncy and the -4…

I'll take Cinncy and the -4.

I'm working until right before kickoff.

I'll probably go out to eat after that at our favorite Chinese place. One small TV in the bar, so no SB crowd.

Then I'll probably go home and watch the DVR of the end of the Phoenix Open.

If I'm still up after that, I may fast forward through the Super Bowl halftime commercials, which is usually the best part of the broadcast. But more likely I'll wait until Monday and google "Best Super Bowl Commercials."

I've been giving my tickets…

I've been giving my tickets away.

For me it's the ridiculous mask mandate. I'm a Physician. I've cared for over 1,000 Covid patients. I was infected in late February 2020. I've read all of the scientific studies published on masks (Not that there are al a lot).  Some quite shocking results in some of them.  For example, a UK study looked at mask effectiveness in the OR .One group had surgery where the surgeons wore no masks. The other group masked. There were significantly more infections in the masked group, than unmasked. Only one study and never repeated, but interesting just the same.

Nothing irritates me more than seeing people wearing masks incorrectly, constantly touching them, and their face, and not realizing they are wearing a dirty air filter on their face. That's the real science. How many people have been infected, and taken it into their home, because the mask is a vector? No one wants to talk about that, just like no one wants to talk about the literal elephant in the room: Obesity as a risk factor for morbidity and mortality.

Even if someone could show some science that mask mandates do anything beneficial, (Dr Fauci was 100% correct when he said that they are theater, and probably do more harm than good) I'd still watch from home. If there was a significant public health threat from such gatherings, they shouldn't be allowed. They are allowed, because no such threat exists.

In my leisure time, the last thing I want to do is wear a mask. I'm done wearing masks with the exception of air travel, and I've almost eliminated that as well for the same reason.

My question is why, with a #3 ranking, Purdue fans didn't snap up the seats. It's not like it's long road trip.

I was just thinking about…

I was just thinking about the Olympics.

What day do they start?

His level of hubris is…

His level of hubris is astounding. He actually believes he deserved to be first in line for the Michigan HC position.

He'll fit right in at Miami. They may even let him start recruiting again.

At this point, I hope he…

At this point, I hope he leaves.

The way this has drawn out impacts recruiting now, and for as long as he stays.

I was a big fan of the hire. I even though he should have been hired over RR, fresh from San Diego, and certainly over BH>

Ever since the amazon special, I've though different. He's a not so bright jock with a lot of passion. But he's certainly no organizational genius.

We can do better. and we will. Time to move on.

This post really ties the…

This post really ties the whole thread together.

This is an easy one for me.

This is an easy one for me.

Natural Born Killers.

Oliver Stone. Woody Harrelson. Robert Downey Jr.

Worst movie ever unless your goal is to be disturbed by an insane level of violence, even by modern movie standards.

Funny how a guy who some…

Funny how a guy who some think does not have an agent/agency representing him also think he's asking for complete financial control of an NFL team. Those two don't go together.

He was fired for making a…

He was fired for making a dismissive comment, with a "Sweetheart" at the end.

I have a relative who is retired. He's a former PGA Tour Pro. When he visits and we go out, I cringe every time he uses the terms Honey, Dear, Sweetheart, etc. with servers in restaurants and at our club. I've warned him a million times. He was brought up in a small town, and he's a country boy at heart. He'll never change.

My beef if with the double standard. An NFL player or starter in the NCAA can send their partner to the hospital with a beating and it's usually just a suspension. And now? Anyone is free as a bird to make derogatory comments about a white man. Double standards serve no one. They only make things worse by dividing people and preventing dialogue. I think that's really the intent, as Charles Barkley said last year.

He was a great announcer. He made a mistake. He should have been allowed to learn from it, and given a chance to change his behavior. If we are going to have zero tolerance, then fine. But it should apply to all. No double standards.

The links at the end of my post are to facts concerning this development:

Getting Schlissel out of the…

Getting Schlissel out of the way was one of the conditions for a contract extension. Michigan's athletic program needs a President that not only understands it's importance, but understands and embraces everything that needs to be done to not only maintain it as one of the top in the country, but make it better. Michigan fans don't want to be Harvard. They want athletics like Stanford, with football results like Alabama.

The deal will be signed shortly, after his agency is done doing their job of establishing demand for his services and setting terms.

I did not mean to imply any…

I did not mean to imply any rarity.

My point is that society in general, and athletics particular to this thread, have seemed to change/evolve/choose your word/ to a point where the male/female designation/limited designation is not only no longer appropriate but offensive to many.

So let's just move on and agree the designation is obsolete, and no longer use the terms. Let's use genomic terms instead. Everyone is either XX, XY, or other. We could, as I'm sure would be demanded, extend sports/any categories for specific Trisomies, or any other non XX/XY variants.

Why does one need to check into a Delta flight as male or female, as just one recent example?

Civilization should evolve to a genomic system, if any identification is necessary at all, which it really is not. The current structure was developed because people once thought people should be differentiated based on male/female designation which is now not acceptable.

Why not let everyone compete, and accept the results???

Why have any categories?

Do the categories not perpetuate the false concept of male superiority?

I chose U of M for undergrad…

I chose U of M for undergrad and Med because they were the best schools for the money.

Out of State and private school costs made no sense whatsoever.

It's mind boggling to me how much debt some kids take on these days, especially for majors and degrees that don't translate into well paying jobs.

Theoretically so would Tony…

Theoretically so would Tony. But he's dead, and she's over 60 and not a competitive athlete, is she?

Best case scenario is that…

Best case scenario is that he is into the third quarter of the game of life.

He's up by well into 8 figures. He can live anywhere, and however he wants. His family will never be in need of anything money can buy. If he wanted a nicer home, or a fleet of cars, he would buy them. He can fly private, anytime, and to anywhere.

Like many that approach that point in life, the realization is that the only thing that's not negotiable is time left on Earth. The clock ticks, and there are no time outs. You can take the best care of yourself possible, maintain ideal body weight, and avoid excesses, but that may or may not change the time left.

So it's all about what he wants to do with his time.

No money dump will decide his future. It's a soul search about personal fulfillment. The big stage and it's unique headaches and rewards, vs the smaller stage and it's unique headaches and rewards.

The answers I'd love to hear from him is to these questions: Do you really think the best of the Big Ten can ever beat the best of the SEC to win it all? How often?

If the answers are yes, and maybe once in 20 years, I would expect him to move on to the next level. That's probably why Kelly left ND. Maybe not this year, but soon.

My suggestion would be for…

My suggestion would be for athletic competitive categories to be based on genome. XX, XY, and Other.

One is free to identify as anything they wish. The genome is what it is.

I posted about C19 being a…

I posted about C19 being a wild card with teams, sports scheduling, and bowl games in general and idiots like M(oron) forLife jumped down my throat for even mentioning it. That was followed by an idiot copying9 and pasting year old data on the alpha and delta variants as if he/she/they were some kind of authority.

So I don't see this thread ending well.

Sorry that you are both too…

Sorry that you are both too stupid and hypersensitive on the subject to not comprehend that I meant it in terns of preventing the disruption of competitive sports schedules, which is clearly the case.

I think they match up well.

I think they match up well.

The wild card player is Covid, as it's now clear the vaccines are doing nothing to stop it.

And that probability favors Georgia.

For what it would cost me…

For what it would cost me for good seats for my party, airfare, and hotel I can pay an AV company to tear out my built in wall unit, reconfigure for and buy an 83 in LG OLED to replace my 65.

If the game was not in a place like Indy, I might think about it. As is? No thanks. I'd rather throw a nice party at my house and then sleep in my own bed.

I was born before the lottery was legal. It was called "The Numbers Racket" and run by the mob. They pitched legalization to form the lottery by saying "All the money is going to go to the schools."

Now ticket scalping and betting are legal too. Goes good with the legal hooch. But I'm not sure it contributes to the fans experience.

BK left because he knows…

BK left because he knows they won't make the playoff.

Fickell won't take the ND job until after the playoff. And ND, like a lot of people, will respect that about him. If they really want him, and they do, they can and will wait for him to finish his business.

A win will cause me to…

A win will cause me to wonder if unrealistic morons will expect a National Championship against, most likely, a superior (As Always) SEC opponent.

A loss will cause me to be concerned about the same morons who don't realize the second tier status of the program that's been clear for decades. And even some, the particularly moronic, who will voice "Coaching Change" for a 2 loss top ten program.

(Subject to unusual and unpredictable performance which makes the sport most appealing).

Sports parallel life.

Eschew expectations. Carpe Diem. And Go Blue.

And if we lose? Enjoy the firm embrace, smothering kisses, and inner reaches of your embodied other.

Like every fucking other Saturday Night.

I'm an ancient guy. Write it down. Get it right, kids.

Go Blue!

It will go to at least 10.

It will go to at least 10.

And I'll be doing my part!

I think osu -7 is a great bet and I'm taking a big position.

That way, if Michigan gets blown out, I'm not totally devastated, just mostly..........

With my luck, osu will win by 7.......

I'll add:

A lot of people…

I'll add:

A lot of people forget who was offered the AL job before Saban took it.

I'm fine with where we are, and the potential to break through to the next level.

I'm not sure how or why you…

I'm not sure how or why you took what I wrote the way you did.

The bottom line:

People who think they can and should avoid viral illness at all costs are morons.

The immune system can be thought of as a muscle. Without challenge, it withers to nothing. If it it then needed....

Just spend 30 minutes googling the experience of Native Pacific Islanders upon exposure to European "explorers".

Anyone that tries to live in a bubble must commit to confinement to it.

Humans require immune system challenges to remain healthy. The extent to which that is true is only minutely understood, but irrefutably correct.

"Wishing away" the flu season is idiocy. We cannot now prevent it, and it is quite possible that we NEED IT (SEE SYMBIOSIS IN MY LAST POST).

One thing for certain: Hubris and ignorance are worse that artillery and bullets.

MGoDoc here. Old. Decades of…

MGoDoc here. Old. Decades of experience.

News flash: if you could sterilize your body of bacteria it would kill you. You need them to survive.

It's called "a symbiotic relationship."

The same is probably true with viruses of all kinds, including the ever present coronas. C19 is not "novel". It's over 95% genetically identical to SARS virus.

Immunological fact: The pediatric population with the most robust immune system are children raised on farms. Animals. Dirt. Foods nor processed and filtered.

"Hopefully NO ONE gets this bug/flu" is based in absolute ignorance.

When you are young, and otherwise healthy, the SCIENCE is that you are best served by being exposed to everything and anything you can handle, including C19, where the odds of fatality from from drowning if you are under 18 are 6 times higher than dying form C19.

Facts.

C19 is now here to stay. Crossover to the animal populations ensured it. You are either already resistant to it, or you will get it. From the onset greater than 20% were never susceptible to it. Fact. Look up the Diamond Princess date. That's the reality. Anyone telling you otherwise is a media shrill, a moron, or both.

"For all Hatbaugh's antics,…

"For all Hatbaugh's antics, at least he never injured any innocent bystanders."

Speak for yourself.

I've been injured and deserve to recover damages. I'm seeking to become whole.

I

Interesting question.

Here…

Interesting question.

Here's another:

When is the last time a team played 3 teams in the top 20 in its first 4 games?

When is the last time a 1-2 team played a top 20 team in its 4th game, after losing to two teams in the top ten after 3 games?

I wish Moms could delete 90%…

I wish Moms could delete 90% of the people that post here.

Someone that doesn't check day old posts before posting, not included.

Who give a F if it's been posted. Ignore it. It says more about you than the person that posted it.

I don't watch games live…

I don't watch games live anymore. I don't watch anything real time. It's all DVR now.

They ruined it. And it's backfired on them since I now have not seen a commercial in years.

Once in a while, it backfires on us when we get an excited text. But we've learned to ignore our phones if we're really into a game, match, etc.

Say what you want about him,…

Say what you want about him, but he loved his school, and he loved his players. They, in turn, played their hearts out for him.

I was lucky/unfortunate enough to be in the Coaches Press Box with the Michigan staff the year they came into town.

We all thought we really had something special with that Michigan team that year.

They not only steam rolled us, they did it mercilessly. The staff had telescopic mikes in those days. The taunting was torture, as it was followed by execution. They would tell our O line where they were going, and that they they were too slow and fat to stop them. Then they did what they said they would do.

Changed the way I looked at the game for the rest of my life. It was clear that the speed was on another level, and we would be hard pressed to ever field a team deep enough to dominate.

Why is that surprising to…

Why is that surprising to anyone?

He showed great ability and talent in practice and won the job at Michigan, too..............

It was the next step that he couldn't take.

I hope he can do it this time, and he makes it to a big pay day in the NFL.

Why would anyone not wish that for him?

I'm a lot older than most of…

I'm a lot older than most of you guys. This story is from the 70's.

My GrandPa was a Teamster. High up on the ladder.

The Summer after I graduated High School, he arranged a no show job with a concrete company. I never even saw the work site. I was a basically a servant to a group of Union guys. Running errands. Washing cars.

One day, one of them told me he had a job for me. He gave me an address and told me to go clean the place. All the supplies I needed were already there. He told me to never tell anyone about it, and that no one would interrupt me while I was there. He had guys outside to make sure of that.

It was a small house on the East Side. When I entered, I caught a waft of a familiar smell. It's the smell when you open a large pack of steaks just when you realize you need to be opening them in the sink because of all the blood.

I cleaned the place up the best I could. Later in the week a saw an article in the Free Press. I recognized the address. House fire on the East side. Same day I was there.

I never told anyone.

Vaccines and therapeutics do…

Vaccines and therapeutics do not prevent anyone from testing positive.

In a percentage of patients (Not 100%) they can contribute to the prevention of the pathogen from causing disease, not positive test results.

If a "vaccinated" individual is exposed to the pathogen, they may not even know it, have mild or no symptoms depending on their level of exposure, level of immune response, both natural and administered. They may test positive after such an exposure. The duration of their positivity is variable and not currently predictable.

We knew over 1 year ago that greater than 30% of people were not susceptible to disease from Covid 19. (Estimates are actually much greater than that, but that's the low end of the range).

That's why we saw many instances on the cruise ships like Diamond Princess where one spouse was sick, and the other never got sick despite quarantine in a 10 X 10 ft or smaller cabin.

 "National Enquirer-level…

 "National Enquirer-level sensationalism"

Please don't insult them. They broke the stories on Gary Hart, John Edwards and Tiger.

I guess they couldn't rehash Tiger's issues since he's not playing.

If it was me, I'd do what Phil plans on doing, but would have said nothing.

But I don't tell other people how to live and act. He obviously cares, he's sensitive about it, and he's human. His reaction was a mistake. He may or may not see or believe that some day.

In any event, I personally find it refreshing that someone at least says what they feel and think, rather than the usual IMG et al press corp statement.

And, why would someone like him keep coming to Detroit?

In our family, we tend to…

In our family, we tend to take the game too seriously.

CPG keeps us grounded in the fundamentals of the game. Fun and laughs.

Sorry, I could have worded…

Sorry, I could have worded that better with regard to "run away." I meant that for him. A mid handicapper. Obviously not true for a beginner or new/ novice Junior golfer .

I agree completely with the fitting/lessons comment you made.

This is coming to you from a…

This is coming to you from a guy with a family very into, if not consumed, by the game. We all play. One played on the PGA Tour. One played on the mini tours, and has played in US Mid-Ams. 3 more played Div I college golf. 6 in the family are better than scratch. Our idea of fun after dinner is to watch golf instruction videos on the golf channel and YouTube......

For almost anyone who wants to take the game seriously, fittings are well worth it. You didn't mention getting fitted for the most important club in your bag. That's worth it, too.

The exception is the beginner, who is also not an anomolus physical specimen (Very tall or very short). They are better off spending on lessons.

With regard to instruction, if they are not using video, run away.

With regard to practice, always do it with a purpose, and always use video, especially for full swing work.

I'm also a big fan of lessons given by PGA Professionals, but you can do a lot of work on your own.

Most golfers will find that they really don't need lessons to address the most common swing faults that one can see for themselves on video, if they want to put in the time and effort. Between thinking about where your ball is going, and looking at video, the why is usually very obvious. If you have a problem addressing a fault, look up some drills on youtube and try them out.

And always be aware of the two of the things that keep you from taking your swing from the range to the course: Grip pressure and tempo. People grip tighter and speed up when they hit the course.

And, of course, always defer to The Club Pro Guy...https://clubproguy.com/pages/learning-center

Cheers!

I live in Arizona, and…

I live in Arizona, and nothing gets more laughs than a strategically placed rubber rattle snake.

Just may sure you have an AED in your bag. At my age, in my group, we all do..........

My favorite line when someone's taking forever to make up their mind on what kind of shot to hit:

Are you going to hit it or hatch it?

A wiki look shows that since…

A wiki look shows that since 1971, only two teams West of the Mississippi (Denver and Loyola) have one the National Championship.

A big part of that, I think, is sports culture. I grew up in the Detroit area a long time ago. If you wanted to play Hockey, you did it on the frozen ponds and lakes. The only sporting goods store anywhere near my house was Dunhams. They had a live bait tank in the back of the store. They had what looked like a weird, overinflated football on a high shelf behind the counter. I later learned that was a rugby ball.

What they didn't have was lacrosse equipment. Back then, it was all about football, basketball, baseball, and track. I didn't meet anyone that played lacrosse until I attended Michigan, and those guys were all from out East. While kids today get a lot more exposure, it's still not part of the culture in the Midwest. And that's a big obstacle in developing a programm.

We can't even develop a football program that matched ups against the best.

They played like it mattered…

They played like it mattered. They just couldn't get anything going, and Loyola kept it rolling. "Came out flat" was a poor choice of words implying lack of effort or not taking the opponent seriously. I didn't see lack of effort. I just didn't see anyone stepping up. Not an unusual phenomenon. We see it every tournament.

My wife is an IL fan. So are…

My wife is an IL fan. So are her brothers. They're saying they came out flat and never hit their groove. They're saying they got their @$$es handed to them by a team that was playing at their their peak performance level. They're saying "That's sports." No whining. No excuses.

And now they're all rooting for the rest of the Big Ten and Michigan.

Although one of them had to chime in that Oral Roberts has more wins against OSU than Jim Harbaugh......

The reality is that Michigan…

The reality is that Michigan could have, and should have had Lloyd pass the keys to the program to Urban at mid field after he beat him in his last game.

The reality is that Michigan chose not to do so, despite Urban wanting and lobbying for the job. His  program character issues combined with the fact that Urban was caught banging a grad asst contributed to a constellation of opinions that Schiano was a better choice.

After he said no, the candidate who turned down Alabama the previous year was the number one. And he was signed. He then chose to not work with existing talent, but rather attempt a Phoenician change.

Those are facts. And we are where we are.

More like identical paths…

More like identical paths. Trying to get it right.

Like USC, Florida, FSU, Miami, PSU, Nebraska, just to name the programs that immediately come to mind, not to mention the plethora of SEC teams whose fans don't understand why they can't be Alabama.

The reality of the situation is that it's a hard mountain to climb, especially when you're program has basically been to rock bottom.

Our painful reminder is OSU, but they went through 2 coaching changes while still near the top of the game, not because of program game performance failures.

It is what it is. Michigan could have, and should have, hired Urban. The rest is history.

And if you want to see what is probably the best you can hope for, look no further than Notre Dame.

I love Michigan. I just don't see them ever being elite again. I'd bet on a return to elite status from a FL school, USC or Texas first.

Friends, Michigan, Winning

Friends, Michigan, Winning

Personally, I have not been…

Personally, I have not been conditioned to think the worst thing possible from the athletic department.

Sure, performance/results since the Carr era on football hiring have been horrific. And, obviously, the department centers on football. But the department has had successes.

Let's go back in the time machine: RR turns down AL, and MI lands him a year later. MI fans were not exactly calling for the AD's head. (I had assumed all along that Lloyd would pass the keys to Urban at midfield after Lloyd's final bowl game. Boy was I wrong....)

Hoke was a stretch, to say the least. Granted.

JH? Who, if anyone (Other than our enemies and NFL owners), was disappointed?

Outside of Hoke and his boss, who would have expected better? Easy to see now who the better choices were. But then?

I chalk it up to shit happens, life in unpredictable, and sometimes, even smart people doing their best results in things being FUBR.

As far as the epitome of college FB, does anyone really believe a Big Ten team can get there? OSU is still considered a mid level SEC program. ND? This will probably be their best year we will see.

I miss the Lloyd Carr days. At least we had some fun.

The only job he might be…

The only job he might be lured to take would be Notre Dame. And after this season, it's Kelly's best chance to cash in, and move to The Show. He'll never reach any higher market value.

Michigan win sign Jim to a three year for stability of the recruiting class, and part ways after next year without a significant turn around.

Allow me to share an anecdote. A long time ago I was required to work in Cleveland for an extended period including a Fall. Every night, of the sports news, they interviewed the Brown's coach. They mauled him a pack of hyenas. Hit him over and over again like a piñata. One question was even "What makes you think you should even be a Head Coach?"

His name was Belichick.

Sometimes people just need time, and the right match of circumstances, personnel, opportunities, etc.

Here's to hoping Jim becomes Michigan's Belichick.

And as for Brian Kelly, he was almost fired 2 years ago. Not that we should strive to be like them. We want better. And we will have better.

Go Blue.

It's not dying, but I wouldn…

It's not dying, but I wouldn't be surprised if numbers of participants adjusted for changes in family size are down compared to the 70's-90's.

My family may, or may not be part of that trend, if it exists. The boys in my extended family are all athletic and play at least two sports. None of them play football. Soccer, Golf, basketball, track, baseball and cross country.

I played at their age, and I've asked them all why they don't. The answers ranged from "Too much practice and training for too little game time" to "The coaches take it way too seriously and only want you to play football" to "I just didn't like it." None of them mentioned concerns about injuries. But their parents were all quietly relieved when they stopped playing JFL.

With regard to the article, I'm sure studying the long term survival of OL and DL players at the elite level would lead to similar shocking data on long term morbidity and mortality.

Let's face it, the game we love on the level they play it in the NCAA and NFL is a meat grinder. And it's still being largely ignored because of the money involved.
