The medical center had been…

The medical center had been insanely protective of the block M until recently when they decided to allow every possible feeder hospital north of Ann Arbor to use it even though they have nothing to do with UM (other than agreeing to send us their complex cases). If there is enough money at stake the block M can be purchased. Sadly the quality of the health care available at these hospitals is no different than it ever was despite the new block M on the building.

Fantastic post!  Bravo!

I had my vasectomy at OSU and the urologist was my neighbor. The worst part is I knew the scrub nurse. That OR was freezing. Talk about shrinkage!

A few years ago I went to a lecture by the guy in charge of drug testing for the Olympic games. He said if you have a good trainer you won't get caught because newer and better PEDs keep coming out that laboratory testing has not yet been developed to detect. Might as well have the "all drug olympics"

Harbaugh has a point about chicken:

Chicken Sickens Most Number Of People, CDC Data Show.

CBS News (8/1, Kristof) reports a new analysis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that although fish and dairy caused more outbreaks, “chicken sickened the most people,” while pork and seeded vegetables “ranked second and third most common sources of foodborne illness.” Overall, listeria, salmonella, and E. coli “were responsible for 82 percent of all hospitalizations and deaths reported.”

I totally agree. I have the LG OLED 4k 55 inch and the picture quality is stunning when you actually have some 4k programming to look at (Netflix).

Ethics

The ethical dilemma is not about leisurely primary care. This concierge system allows those that pay more to get in line way ahead of all other patients that go to UM if they need a specialist and if they need to be seen in the ER. The fact is that many specialists at UM have a wait list of greater than 3 months to get an appointment (try getting in to see an endocrinologist or a neurologist ). Its not about who we treat as much as it is when we treat. A patient should not be allowed to jump the line at a state supported university medical center because they are willing to pay more.

M faculty not happy about this

As a UM doc I can tell you that every UM doc I know thinks this is a terrible idea. Over 300 have a signed a letter to the dean urging him not to do this. It is completely at odds with the ethics we teach our own students.

Saw plenty of that in Ann Arbor in the late 70s

Friend of mine on the Football team had his car towed for having over $1000 worth of parking tickets. He showed up to get his car out of impound wearing his letter jacket and rose bowl ring and suddenly the fines disappeared. I realize its not the same thing as dismisiing sexual assualt charges but local police have cut M athletes deals in Ann Arbor for a long time.

Elmer T Lee

Used to get it at Meijer for $35 and then it got discovered. Now I know one store in Ann Arbor that has it, but you have to know someone to get them to sell you a bottle for $60.

Buffalo Trace

Buffalo Trace distillery makes a lot of great bourbons everything from Buffalo Trace ( their cheapest) to Pappy Van Winkle ( the holy grail of bourbons). Eagle rare 10 year is a great bourbon of theirs at a decent price. Elmer T Lee and Blantons are a bit more $ but also great bourbons

Heavy rain with hail now

Intense storm right now

Intimidated by the crowd

I guess the few dozen fans in stands have us intimidated. We are playing like scared little boys

Comcast 607

NBC universo which is 607 on my comcast

Georgia fans paid big $

The average price was over $1100, so domers sold their tickets.

Rehab for this is brutal

Having torn my patellar tendon I can tell you the rehab for that surgery is brutal. Took longer than a year to walk without thinking about every single step. He's a lot younger than me, but his tendon will be held together with 3 screws and some suture, which is easily re-torn.

Rush lake pike

Small world. I caught a 26 inch pike on Rush lake this morning. Nailed a Mepps spinner

Allen Collins and Gary Rossington

Together these two guys from Lynryd Skynryd wrote and played some amazing guitar parts.

14 would be fair

14 considering we beat Louisville as well

At the shoe 90 and 92

I was a faculty member at OSU from 90-93 ( we all have to eat) and had season football tickets. As a Michigan grad I would literally root for whoever OSU was playing each week. My section ( the very end of the open end that was actually behind the end zone bleachers) was all assistant professors who had no real strong ties to OSU so it was actually fairly reasonable. The only time I got any shit was when we kicked the winning field goal at my end in 1990 and I celebrated rather loudly.

You couldn't pay me to go to a game there now.

OK I'm a ludite and can't get this to work

TV screen hangs from ceiling

The 40 inch TV hangs from the ceiling and is not close

one extra camera angle

According to our tour guide, the replay booth gets one extra camera angle that is not supplied by the network. While the TV's in the suites aren't great, they are way better than what the replay booth has.

Tour guide

I think that was who gave us the tour - he was great. He mentioned the big ten is thinking about having a central review for replays in the future. The both has the big ten logo all over it, so I suspect the equipment is standardized.

5 minute penalty

I say if you don't get up within 20 seconds you have to go off the field for 5 minutes without a sub ( your team plays a man down)

At the Ark last summer

I saw him at a "guitar greats" show at the ark last summer and he blew the other 3 "nationally recognized guitar wizards" off the stage. Laith can truly shred and I'm glad he is finally getting some recogniztion. Hard to believe somebody that talented has been stuck playing at Weber's every Thursday night, but that is the music biz.

Beer?

Did you find kosher for passover beer for the brisket?  I know an Israeli company was working on such a thing, but I didn't know it was on the market yet.

Tired and sloppy

Wings look tired and sloppy

No heart at all

The only guy out there that looked like he cared was Dakich. The rest of the team looked apathetic and or scared shitless.

Levert looked Gimpy

Levert still looks like he limps quite a bit in warm ups

I worked at OSU

As a lifelong Michigan fan and a proud owner of two U of M degrees, my first real job out of fellowship was at OSU medical school. I lasted 3 long years and worked with some great people. I even had season football tickets and rooted loudly for whoever OSU was playing ( thank god it was during the Cooper era and we owned them). Most of the OSU grads I met and worked with were very respectful. Thankfully I returned to the mothership where I have been for the past 23 years, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Bravo

Great piece of writing. For a minute I felt like I was back in West Quad 39 years ago.

Only the lions

You just knew he would effing miss that extra point

Not a random guy

I'm not naming names, but my friend is not a "random guy" attending practice. He is well connected with folks in the bball program. He also says that Moritz Wagner is the most competitive guy on the team. He hates to lose at anything.

Beilein

A friend of mine got to attend M basketball practice a week or so ago and he was talking to Beilein about the national championship game and the terrible call on Trey's block. Beilein quipped "I guess we didn't have enough prostitutes"

Cut and paste job

The interview with Harbaugh was totally cut and pasted from the post game press conference. Brandy just overdubbed his voice asking other people's questions.

Moeller

I rode the elevator up to my seats yesterday with coach Moeller, he looked really fragile and kind of out of it. His one bad night seems trivial compared to what today's coaches get away with.

Sounded great in 24

I heard it loud and clear in row 87, but the band was facing our side.

Not so fast

Goal USA! 1-1

I'd give it an 85

Its not dad rawk but its got a good beat and you can dance to it

Stream it

I was in Bangkok last year and was able to stream the Michigan v Rutgers game on my iPad ( in hind sight I wish I hadn't). Wifi in big hotels has plenty of bandwidth to get a good connection.

Tony Franklin

I remember Tony Franklin kicking 60 yard field goals in warm ups and thinking we were going to get beat. What a laugher that game turned into. . . at least what I remember of it - there was a lot of peppermint schnopps flowing in my section of the end zone

Schlissel grining ear to ear

I walked past President Schlissel at half time of the BYU game and he was grining from ear to ear. Nothing like seeing all of those tough decisions paying off big time.

Been there and done that

As a fellow 56 year old I would say all of those songs have been overplayed at sporting events to the point that I completely tune them out. I used to love welcome to the jungle but now it's just another annoying tune I have to shout over if I actually want to talk about the most recent play with the person next to me.

It was played

Definitely played it each of the last 2 weeks, both near the start of the game.Even though most of the music they have played the last two weeks is stuff I like to listen to (Classic blue hair rock and roll), I would rather just hear the band. Since when did Foghat's slow ride pump up a crowd?

Madonna went to U of M

Madonna was in my freshman class at U of M, but quit to make it in " music"
