I see what you did there,…

I see what you did there, and well done!

In regards to the OP,  Tim…

In regards to the OP,  Tim was a fine player and I enjoy his commentary and he may well be in the top 10 of all-time Michigan centers, but he was no Bill Buntin.

There should be no debate…

There should be no debate about 2 starters on an all-time Michigan team:

Cazzie and Rice.

Many options to choose from at the other spots.   I would go with:

PG:  Rickey Green

Center:  Tarpley

If we need one more guard:  Rose (would mesh better with Green than Burke would)

Rickey Green was fast, outstanding on the fast break,  could take it to the rack and could shoot.

Certainly in the running for best pg in Michigan history.

Was just recently at a talk…

Was just recently at a talk given by the president of Hope College.  Hope is in the initial stages of a bold plan to charge no tuition to current students with the expectation (? hope) that when alumni those former students will contribute enough to fund the program.

He gave some startling statistics:  at the Ivy's something like 70% of admitted students come from wealthy enough families that afford to pay.  Another 20% come from  "poor" families who qualify for enough need based aid to cover the cost.   He pointed out that that leaves only about 10% of those student bodies from traditional middle class families.

Why do posters think…

Why do posters think Michigan should be immune to players entering the portal?

A few years ago there was an article in the WSJ about the Jeep pickup.   It started out something like this "On the northern outskirts of Toledo Chrysler (or FCA, or whatever they were then) has a plant that prints money ... "

They were referring to the plant that assembled the Jeep pickup.

First:  in terms of Jace …

First:  in terms of Jace "taking up a scholarship" - the team didn't even use all of it's scholarships last year, so not really an issue, at least last year.

Second:  the Sanderson incident.   This is clearly on Juwan.   Juwan was the head coach.   He could have squashed this incident the moment he walked in on it.  Simply:  "Jace - to the shower and leave for the day".   "John - meet me in my office in 5 minutes".   "Trainer - sorry this happened, I will take care of it, back to work"

If I were Dusty, I would put in a call to John Sanderson and see if there is any chance to rebuild some bridges including what if Jace were still on the team.   I would talk to Juwan and see what he desires for Jace and of course talk to Jace as well.   Probably some of this has already happened.   If both Juwan and Jace wish for Jace to stay on the team then that is probably the thing to do.

English Premier League fans…

English Premier League fans beg to differ.

I could follow it when there…

I could follow it when there was the American League and the National League.   Each played only in their own league except for an All-Star game between the two leagues - was worth watching then.   At the end of the season the best team in the AL played the best team in the NL in The World Series.

Now that's how to do it!

That ensures at least 3…

That ensures at least 3 teams from each division are in the playoffs and not having something stupid where most of an entire division is left out, which would happen if they just picked the best 8 teams

______________________________________________________________________

Having the 8 best teams from each conference in the playoffs - we wouldn't want that to happen!

I think we have 5 scholarships accounted for:  Burnett, TWill, Chedder, Jace, PhatPhat.   Perhaps further defections from that group?

In one of the games up at Breslin that M wound up winning, Sparty was making some spectacular dunks much to the delight of the crowd.   Beilein told the team at half, don't worry about the dunks, we'll keep making our 3s.

The original Dunkers Church…

The original Dunkers Church was lost to a fire in the early 1900s (IIRC) but the replacement is identical to the original.

Agree with visiting Antietam.  Gettysburg can be a bit touristy at times but Antietam is like traveling back in time.

Just about everyone I know ... correction ... everyone I know wants more band and less piped in.   Yet we get the opposite.   Where is the evidence that the paying customers actually want blasting loud rock/rap "music" at every dead spot in the game?

Disagree completely.  My Sparty friends are all annoyed by my National Championship gear.  You will KNOW they are annoyed when they yell "cheater" at you.

Your point is well made, but to clarify,  the exam your are referring to is a prostate exam.

Here I am on Mgoblog so…

Here I am on Mgoblog so obviously I love Michigan sports.   Between basketball and football season tickets the Athletic Department gets plenty of my money.

I used to donate to the university as a whole but when I am in Ann Arbor I see a prosperous and often self-important community full of construction cranes.   The university has a large endowment which by itself could support much of the financial needs of the school.

I more often drive through Detroit.   What I see there is just the opposite, many people in need, a city economy just surviving.

So when I consider my charitable giving, I am more inclined to give to those in need rather than those that are not in need but are always demanding more.

If true (and no reason to…

If true (and no reason to think it isn't), Juwan should have been fired given the zero tolerance policy he supposedly is working under.

Not only do we lose a great S&C coach, Sanderson's son is also a 5^ basketball player.   Doubtful we will see him suited up as a Wolverine.

It wasn't Bo's fault or…

It wasn't Bo's fault or Canham's fault.  It was Anderson's fault.

Agree that Cazzie Russell is…

Agree that Cazzie Russell is the GOAT in Michigan basketball and what a class move it would be to name the court after him.

Back in his day the NBA had an East and West division.  A coin flip between the worst teams in each division decided who would get the #1 pick which would be Cazzie.   The flip was between the Knicks and Pistons.   The Knicks won and took Cazzie, with the 2nd pick the Pistons took Dave Bing.

It was fairly common up…

It was fairly common up until the early 1960s for Michigan football players to compete in other sports, especially basketball.

Best example of this is from the 70s when football star Don Dufek starred on the hockey team.

So many empty seaters on…

So many empty seaters on your side even when the M teams were rollin'.   Somehow the seating needs to allow the people that actually show up during good and bad times to have the good seats and the fair weather fans somewhere else.

Just to clarify:  Mrs Team…

Just to clarify:  Mrs Team 101 - brunch and band.   Team 101 - dance team.

I'm assuming that calling…

I'm assuming that calling Denegal a Wilton Speight is meant to be an insult?  Other than they both are tall how do we know that they are comparable?   It seems to me that Orgi played more just to be a runner a couple of times of day, but was he really ahead of Denegal on the depth chart?   Did Orgi complete a pass all year?

Kinda sums up one of…

Kinda sums up one of Michigan Basketball problems.   A general lack of interest in the team even during good times.

I was in the camp that…

I was in the camp that losing HD was addition by subtraction.   I was clearly wrong about that.   I have watched enough Kansas games to see that HD is thriving on a team where he isn't the complete focus of the offense.   At Michigan the game plan seemed to be just to throw it into the post and let HD play one on one or get doubled or tripled.   At Kansas he seems to be playing more in the flow of the game and their offense seems much more balanced.   I also don't see the dick grabbing and other crap so many of us were annoyed by.

Every team is going to lose a marginal player seeking more playing time elsewhere.  Unusual for a major college team to lose an all conference player to another major team.   Hopefully there has been some internal reflection on that by Michigan athletics so that it doesn't happen again.   But probably not.

Got a hat and at my local Costco (Telegraph Rd in Bloomfield Hills) the other day.   Good quality baseball hat was $19 as compared to $40 at MDen.

The situation is best explained by this post.

We don't know if you mean JH or UM.  LOL.

That's what we hear, but…

That's what we hear, but then, what is it about?

If it isn't about the money,…

If it isn't about the money, then what does it mean to say "the rest is up to Michigan"?   What does Jim want from Michigan if he is happy with the money?

My prediction is nowhere…

My prediction is nowhere online to verify but I though Michigan would have to score at least 35-40 points as I was certain W would put 30 something up.

So 35-30 would have been my thought.  FWIW.  Not much, I know.

Not looking ahead yet, will be looking behind for at least another month!

IMO, they got it wrong and also got it wrong in the Rose Bowl.

Rose Bowl offensive MVP should have been Blake, certainly not JJ

Championship game offensive MVP again agree with Blake but especially after rewatching the game defensive MVP should have been Mikey or one of the D-lineman.

James Bond can wear a dive…

Blake called it a natty after the game, so I think it's kosher now?

James Bond can wear a dive watch with a tux, you can't.

There's hours of reading…

There's hours of reading gold in there to look forward to!

I wrote out a new thread…

I wrote out a new thread before the Rose Bowl that was titled something like "I am not looking forward to the game".  I decided not to post it - too negative.  These games have become literally painful for me to watch.   I'm old enough to have watched the Fab Five lose two national championship games.   And the great Beilein loses two national championship games.  And then the College World Series.  And how many hockey disappointments?

So I find myself once again not looking forward to the game.  Oh, I will be watching.  I have confidence in the boys.   Isaiah Thomas said the the pain of losing a championship was greater to him than the joy of winning one.

Let's win one so we don't have to test that theory.

Certainly the team and staff…

Certainly the team and staff have heard the Dug rumor.  If it weren't true they would be best served to squash the rumor ASAP.

I've got UM in this one too.

I've got UM in this one too.
