We're national champions…

We're national champions. This season was a beautiful ending to a beautiful story. Jim leaving was sad, but expected, and I'm happy he gets to pursue his other dreams. In some odd way, I'm glad it ended this way.

Heartbreaking Lions loss after their best season in my lifetime, Ben Herbert leaving, etc - these things are unfortunate but they don't even register for me in comparison.

We're national champions, and I'll be happy for the next 15 years. And I'm excited about the next chapter with Sherrone.

That's if you overlook the…

That's if you overlook the degree to which injury affected each player's season. Johnson missed the entire non-conf and was frankly nowhere near his usual self until November. DeJean was incredible all year until the last two games.

Honestly, I don't think it…

Honestly, I don't think it is. Will is obviously an incredible player but he's missed time and spent some time being rusty after initially coming back from injury. Too many good players for him to get picked given that. Nobody else I'd rather have than him though.

I mean I hate the OSU…

I mean I hate the OSU fanbase as much as the next guy but that's still one of the best jobs in the sport. Even before you get into OSU being able to more than double DeBoer's salary, etc.

Way to highlight a sound…

Way to highlight a sound bite without the full context.

If you listen to the full quote Bradbury said he did hold the receiver, but that he's not sure it deserved a penalty.

Everyone knows that in practice holding doesn't automatically warrant a holding penalty.

I've tried buying individual…

I've tried buying individual tickets for a really cheap price on gameday. But do you think it's crazy to do that for a group of 6 people?

This doesn't deserve its own…

This doesn't deserve its own thread, but a related question:

I'm traveling to AA for the PSU game next weekend. Ticket prices are super high. I know these things might be hard to predict, but do you guys think prices will go up or down from here?

When it comes to all-time…

When it comes to all-time debates in sports I've found that recency bias is real, but <<insert word that's opposite of recency>> bias is just as real.

If I were a Texans fan I…

If I were a Texans fan I would be extremely underwhelmed.

True. If he's as good as…

Edit: double post

True. If he's as good as…

True. If he's as good as most of us think he is, it's unlucky that we only got one year out of him. The Ravens are a couple heartbreaking plays away this season from having 2 or 3 more wins. That's before we even consider Lamar's injuries. The Ravens would've made the playoffs and most likely retained Wink and MacDonald probably stays in Ann Arbor. Alas.

There's no such thing as…

There's no such thing as coordinator continuity if you're a successful program (guys like Brent Venables staying at Clemson for a decade are rare exceptions).

As someone who is generally…

As someone who is generally very progressive on trans rights, I'm actually in favor of certain restrictions on trans participation in certain sports at certain very elite levels.

There's a lot of nuance to be discussed about timing of transition (especially going through puberty as a male before transitioning to female) or transitioning's effects on power vs aerobic capacity and how you would legislate for all these things in different sports, etc.

But honestly, we as MGoBoard are not equipped to handle this conversation in a productive manner so I think this should be locked.

Have a wonderful holiday…

Have a wonderful holiday Seth and co. Truly grateful for all that you write.

He could've gone to Bama and…

He could've gone to Bama and/or gotten the bag this year.

Mel Tucker's dumb contract…

Mel Tucker's dumb contract predicated on wildly overpaying so he doesn't leave for LSU? I get why a coach's agent would bring that up, but it's really weird coming from a fan.

In 2021, ACL reconstruction…

In 2021, ACL reconstruction doesn't really sap speed/agility for someone his age.

What often happens is that the added focus in rehab on stengthening the area around the ligament means they come back even stronger than before.

The QB "controversy" only…

The QB "controversy" only exists in the minds of fans and talk show radio hosts. Much of the UGA fanbase is still mad that they played Jake Fromm over Justin Fields. And many of them see some resemblance to that situation here--the steady situational passer who accentuates their run game/defense-oriented mentality vs the talented playmaker.

But it would go against everything in Kirby Smart's nature to bench Stetson Bennett at this juncture in the season. The chances of JT Daniels starting are literally 0%.

Sparty should be mad at Mel…

Sparty should be mad at Mel Tucker for running him like 5 times against OSU. That is the #1 reason that Walker is not going to NY. Rookie mistake abandoning the run so early given their identity. Obviously they would have lost anyway but it sure wouldn't have been 49-0 at the half.

Finebaum dumping on Harbaugh…

Finebaum dumping on Harbaugh got ESPN a whole lot of clicks and eyeballs. "Data-driven" companies like ESPN know this. Producers better come up with some better outrage-bait for Pete or these shows aren't going to need him on anymore.

We'd also be the #1 seed…

We'd also be the #1 seed playing #4 ND.

Had Oklahoma St not fallen…

Had Oklahoma St not fallen an inch short, Georgia should have been left out of the playoff. Doubtful the committee would have seen it that way, but when your schedule is that bad you don't get the benefit of the doubt for a loss and not winning your conference.

Defensively they remind me…

Defensively they remind me of 2018 Michigan except with more 5 star talent. Great when they can athletically out-match lesser opponents. Exposed when they come up against Bama level receivers.

Btw Keon Sabb posted a…

Btw Keon Sabb posted a picture of himself yesterday in a Clemson uniform with a sign saying "ALL IN" so looks like he's probably out of the picture.

High hopes for Zeke. His highlight reel looks fantastic.

I think it's a risk for sure…

I think it's more of a risk after next season. But only JJ knows the answer to that question.

However, beating Ohio St or winning the BIG or even a NC doesn't guarantee Cade the starting position next season. As utterly ruthless as that may sound. And as great as Cade has been this season, it's not like he's a 4000 yard passer who carries the offense.

We can always get better. At every single position. And if JJ's year of experience and superior physical traits is enough to beat out Cade's proven track record of winning this season than so be it. Personally, I think there is a 50/50 chance that is the case next season.

Seth you animal. Much…

Seth you animal. Much respect.

There's a lot of support in…

Freeman and Fickell are the two most likely names for the ND job. It's interesting to think that the two of them could be competing for the ND job this season and for the OSU job (Freeman's alma mater) in like 5 years.

Even their win against…

Even their win against Nebraska was comically fluky. Yes they're great on special teams and force turnovers. Yes 2021 Nebraska is the GOAT team of choking. But wow, that 4th quarter choke-job was impressive even for Nebraska's standards. A punt block against a terrible protection where the ball perfectly loops into the air into the hands of a Hawkeye to waltz into the endzone, an intentional grounding safety, a fumble and a pick. It wasn't so much what Iowa did right. It was much more about what Nebraska did wrong. A truly impressive display of incompetence by the Huskers. And luck.

His stock has dipped a…

His stock has dipped a little bit but I think he still is a big name in coaching circles. This season has been a disappointment for sure but ISU is a couple of heartbreaking losses away from having a totally different season narrative. They also have a win over a likely playoff team in Oklahoma St.

Personally, I think he is still doing an A+ job given how limited ISU is as a program.

Treveyon Henderson is a…

Treveyon Henderson is a legit talent. Home run speed with great feet and a lot of power. But there's no question he was feasting on undermanned run defenses.

I don't think I've ever seen a tougher collection of yards than Hassan's this season. The man didn't pad his YPC or yardage with long runs. Haskins had to absolute grind out every single yard this season.

Haskins over Henderson easily. We'll take the W though.

Jalen Mayfield not Bredeson…

Jalen Mayfield not Bredeson. Mayfield immediately became a first round pick on mock drafts after that performance against Young.

Well said Homie J.

Well said Homie J.

Control the game on the…

Control the game on the ground AND in the pass game. Can't be one dimensional. First downs are more important in controlling time of possession than a running clock.

Hope we can do what Nebraska/PSU/Tulsa/Oregon have done against their offense and we have a chance.

The end of the Don Brown year has given us PTSD in thinking that they'll score 60 in this game every time. This can be a "normal" OSU-UM game again.

We can do this. I believe.

11-2 MSU (loss in BIG title…

11-2 MSU (loss in BIG title game) vs 11-1 Michigan

I think Michigan gets in, especially if MSU loses in Indy against a common opponent in Wisconsin.

People who make draft picks…

People who make draft picks are also prisoners of the moment.

Different situation. Aidan probably would not have been a first rounder after last season. If Ojabo is a first rounder, which at this point he is trending towards, he should probably go. As much as I would love to see him stay another year.

0.0 rating on a sample size…

0.0 rating on a sample size of two finger pointing throws? three?

Manziel did the finger pointing thing. Mahomes does it. I've seen plenty of other great QB's do it. I agree with you that in a lot of scenarios it's silly but I've also seen plays where it makes sense ("stop coming back to the QB the DB's have cleared out behind you so go upfield!" kind of pointing)

I'm not defending it. I'm not sure if stylistically I even want JJ to be that kind of QB. But I wouldn't knock it either. Yet.

Well said mGrowOld.

Because…

Well said mGrowOld.

Because the college game has gone the soulless, business route of maximizing profits over all else, nothing will change until there is some kind of tipping point that is reached that changes the financial equation for schools and TV networks. That could be declining ticket sales (not close to declining anywhere near enough to matter) or enough people DVR-ing over commercials (not even close) or declining viewership (not close to happening).

So unfortunately, expect nothing to change.

This is a very funny tweet…

This is a very funny tweet on the matter:

They might be the best 3-9/4…

I kind of get it. The results are not there. But they might be the best 3-9 or 4-8 team I've ever seen.

Like others have said, Aidan…

Like others have said, Aidan has zero chance of winning the Heisman. But he's easily one of the 10 best players in college football. Probably top 5.

So I would absolutely love to see him get an invite to New York. He's not in line to receive an invite right now because his sack/TFL/forced fumble numbers are great but not flashy enough to win an offensive award. And it's unlikely. Pretty unlikely. But being a finalist is within the realm of possibility. A bunch of sacks against PSU/OSU. A lucky touchdown. A huge forced fumble. Michigan winning the B10. A few of these things could really throw him into the conversation.

Ah, makes sense

Ah, makes sense

I understand DL/RB coaches…

I understand DL/RB coaches needing Jim's approval for plays/packages in terms of higher level scheming. But are they really going to be discussing individual personnel substitutions for those plays/packages?

Seems like that's a lot of headspace required for a HC. For RB because there's usually only 1 player I can see Jim saying "get Haskins in on short yardage or it's a blowout get Donovan in there" but I can't picture Jim saying "I want these 3 to 6 players in on the DL for this specific play".

I recall a couple snaps that…

I recall a couple snaps that hinted at this substitution issue in the Nebraska game. But yeah this is the first time it's really been exposed. Coaches deserve criticism on this issue but no need to think Mac or Nua are incompetent after one game. It's not easy to be flexible with packages/personnel with college kids mid-game. If they can't fix it going forward then it's time to really get on the coaches.

It's actually crazy how much…

It's actually crazy how much the national media talks about Harbaugh. It's a major part of Klatt and Cowherd's segment literally every week. Same with the Finebaums and others of the world.

I think some of us have gotten used to this. It's not normal. Other coaches that make the playoffs don't even receive this much attention.

Is he actually Hutch 1B? I…

Is he actually Hutch 1B? I would imagine he'd be getting a lot more snaps if he were.

I have. And I feel really…

I have. And I feel really bad about it. But if I had killed someone as a result of it, I wouldn't deserve any sympathy either.

Vastardis has had some…

Vastardis has had some excellent outings. He had a poor game and I'm not saying he doesn't have limitations but to say he has been an issue all season is totally false.

If reports are true, I don't…

If reports are true, I don't feel bad for Ruggs. Sure we're all prone to dumb decisions and so we can empathize on some level with Ruggs (certainly feel bad for his family). But when you get drunk and get behind the wheel, you've actively chosen to endanger others on the road. At the end of the day, a bunch of innocent people were involuntarily murdered and the man who caused it is alive. And you don't deserve sympathy for that.
