What's good in Bloomington

Submitted by TennesseeBlue on

It's pretty hard being a Michigan fan living in Tennessee (I'm not an alumni, but both my dad and great uncle played football for the Wolverines ... I grew up in the South, but went to school in the UK). But, since moving back to the South, I've tried to make it to see Michigan in every venue where they play. Seeing that it will be a while before they play again in Bloomington, I got tickets for the game. Does anyone know what there is to do in Bloomington other than watch Michigan zone read the hell out of the Hoosiers?

There are many bars and restaurants, nice campus.  Brown County area is scenic.  French Lick Casino's about an hour south are worth checking out with an old and nicely updated Donald Ross Course.   See you there, I will have the Bo model hat on.

OP:

Being from TN, you won't notice a difference in the southern drawwlllls of these "northernish" women - but coming from MI, I've always considered Indiana to be "up north" growing up. I was surprised (pleasantly so) to have spent some fun times with a few IU undergrads who had the most delicious southern drawallllls you've ever heard.

my youth, where have you gone???

TN Blue, you must still be confused….. a recent post of yours indicated that you “graduated from Michigan in 1999”-  yet now you “went to school in the UK”?   So, which one is it, friend?   Looks like Wolverine318 had you pegged…..

Maybe he meant HS in the UK and then college at UM, I don't know, but that might be a possibility?

Edit: Don't know about the OP, but this was exactly the case for my Mom, born in OK, raised in VA, and graduated HS in the UK before going to college at Michigan Tech.

Well there is actually some really good bars in bloomington. (Nick's, Jake's, Kilroy's, Sports) If you are looking for some good pizza I would suggest Mother Bears it is located on 3rd street has some of the best pizza I would suggest that inferno one of my favorite. Uplands is also a good place to eat it is a local brewery that has a bar and a patio so that you can eat outside if the weather permits. There is also a football game I think. I think its like Indiana vs. Michigan or someone like that. I heard Michigan has a pretty good player at quarterback, but what do I know. Sorry if a lot of my suggestions involve alcohol I am a college student at IU can you blame me. Go Blue (I have waited for this game since I became an IU student)

Bloomington is actually a ridiculously fun town to go barhopping in.  And at the end of the night, there's a franchise of NYPD if you're jonesing for a bit of Ann Arbor (it's called something different, but I don't remember what, it was 4AM and...  well...  I'm just happy I remember being there).  I was standing at the counter with another UM alum, we're looking around, looking at the menu, and it's just like NYPD.  I said something about it, and the guy behind the counter said "that's because we're the same thing!"  Turns around, and the back of his shirt listed NYPD's Ann Arbor locations and this place.

Basically, go to Nick's.  And if you're up for it, Upstairs Pub for an Adios, Motherf'er.  Had one hell of a night up there.
