Watching multiple games within same timeblock

Submitted by rockediny on

With the football approaching, I've been trying to plan out how I will be watching certain games (I don't usually do this, I'm just really excited this year). I've already noticed 3 games I want to watch on the 3rd and they're all around the same time. My cable provider allows me to record one channel while watching another, but that doesn't help with 3 or more games. Could you all please share your strategies for watching multiple games scheduled at the same time? Is it even possible to do this without expensive contracts with a new provider? How does TiVo work and is it worth the price just for college football? Are there any cheaper alternatives?

to my friends and give them bar like viewing options. Sure three TVs isn't as many as you'll get going out, but typically there are not more than three games you want to watch at once.

Plus cooking out together is fun and the beer is cheaper.

I have wireless receivers for each TV I use during March Madness and college football.

With Sunday Ticket I use two receivers and then my PS4 with the Sunday Ticket (typically on Red Zone) app on the 3rd TV.

Not sure why this isn't everyone's first thought. We have so many devices and screens at our disposal these days with many online streams that are free, it is real easy to have 3 different games up at one time. I find 4+ becomes difficult ue to space and increasing the heat in the room :)

record one, move another TV if possible, stream from computer, etc. If you get watch ESPN and one of your games is on there, forego that one because it will be up for repaly on there

Although my cable / Internet service screams bloody murder when I do this sometimes, I will usually go with a setup similar to what is mentioned above  - the game I want to intently watch is on the big TV, then I'll have one streaming on my iPad and one on the laptop. It typically works out, especially later in the season when multiple meaningful games are going at once.

Over-the-air antenna (TV1), cable/dish (TV2), and a laptop/PC (TV3) streaming from FirstRow, VipBox, Wiziwig, or some other streaming site. That's my setup.

I get the game I want to watch on TV then stream others on my computer.  Not flashy, but it works fairly well.

4 40" screens mounted 2x2 on one basement wall. I have Directv and I get all of March Madness, all NFL, and most college games. I am a junkie

I know I'm talking to myself here, but next Thursday, I'll be watching the Utah game and Project Runway with picture-in-picture. I'm a woman of many hats.

On the 3rd? Well UNC vs. South Carolina and Minnesota vs. TCU are back to back on ESPN, so assuming you're planning on watching the entirity of our game at 8:30 you should still be able to fully record the other two. There aren't really any other super compelling games on that day.

I will be watching at some random bar. It will almost certainly be a Pac-12 crowd, though I am not sure if people have fully internalized the fact that Utah and Colorado are now in the conference.

I'm putting 3 TVs in the basement.  One will be running as a smart TV, one will have Chromecast and one off DirecTV.  Mainly.  I'm pretty sure a lot of the games are on the WatchESPN app which you can use with ChromeCast (I think).  That's my plan.  Will have 2 40"ers mounted side by side up against the ceiling with a 65"er below them.  Should be nice.

Find a bar that's showing multiple games. Go to it. I only have one TV, and a season's worth of games at bars is definitely cheaper than even buying a second one, let alone a third.

Except I suspended mine from my basement ceiling.

I use CableCARDs from Comcast and fanless HTPCs to drive them running OpenELEC. The tuners are SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIMEs (downside of DirecTV is they aren't mandated to provide this type of solution). The back:

The best part about it is my awesome wife supported me in this endeavor a couple years ago. I designed the supporting structure to be hung in stiorage outside of football season so the room gets opened back up. I enjoy sitting on my ass and watching football Saturdays in the Fall.

I considered creating a diary on how I did this with a cost breakdown, etc. but I figured interest would be minimal since it's such a specialized setup.

I run two TVs side by side. They're 40 inch each and I love it. I usually have one with the game I want and then flip through other games on the second TV.

Can't get my pic in here but I know an MGoEmployee would vouch for me as my witness.  I have 5 tvs and also use my laptop and iPad to stream games.  So I have 7 screens total.  That usually covers it.
