OT: Do something good today

Submitted by Wendyk5 on

My father passed away on Wednesday morning after succumbing to pneumonia and old age. Sadly, he battled mental illness his entire life -- depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. We've asked his friends and loved ones to donate to the U of M Depression Center in lieu of flowers. I've been giving to them for a few years now, and I think they do great work. If you're looking for a good place to drop a few bucks today, my vote goes to the Depression Center. The site is DepressionCenter.org; you can find giving information there.

(P.S. Even though he didn't go to Michigan, we're burying him in his ever-present Michigan baseball cap. He was never without it)

Sincere condolences to you and those who loved your dad.  Sounds like he fought valiantly, in the face of some insidious illnesses.  He can now truly rest and have the peace he so deserves.

Hearing about your father's loss inspires me to remember how short and precious life is.  I saw a 99 year-old woman today for a huge chunk of wax in her right ear.  Her 100th birthday is coming up this weekend. I removed the wax so that her hearing aids will work better this weekend for her 100th birthday party. I tried to treat her like the unbelievably special woman that she is.

I hope that you have some nice memories of your father that can be of some comfort to you during this difficult time.

If my recollection is correct, you are Jewish. My mother passed away a little over a year ago. I found going to afternoon minyan and saying Kaddish to be a comforting experience.

Thank you for your kind words. I am Jewish but not observant. In fact, we were just talking about how my father went to my brother's daughter's bat mitzvah (my bro is observant) in Israel, and how he insisted on staying in the Arab Quarter, because that's how he rolled. I don't know how it's spelled, but his grandparents called him michi capare (sp?) meaning "contrarian" in Yiddish. That's what he was. Jewish but not that Jewish.

The people on this forum are just as bad as Larry Nassar. Celebrating sexual assault because it will hurt a conference rival.

2-15 over the last 17 years against Ohio State.

2-8 over the last 10 years against Michigan State.

Absolutely pathetic.

I am thinking of you today. Having lost both of my parents, I know that the world won't be the same for you. But hopefully you have some good memories of your dad that will come to mind frequently. I'll do something good today in your dad's memory. Take care.
