There was a time when lawns were meant to be walked on, as opposed to just looking like the owners wanted to enter them into a beauty contest.  No one dreamed of walking a half mile out of the way to avoid setting foot on grass.  Especially not when walking distances was part of the day.  Us little kids in the 60s walked to and from elementary school, there were far fewer buses as most had a school nearby.... and we all walked through everyone's lawn to get there.  As the suburbs grew, 70s, yeah we started to get yelled at for walking on someone's lawn, but these neighbors were the exception.  These neighbors would sometimes find their flower beds trampled.

It isn't easy, looking at these pictures of Peter Tork young, and realizing how we were all young once and can't stay young.

My favorite line... "we're just trying to be friendly"

Madonna used to frequent the old Rubiyat.  Not sure if she worked there, or just liked the dance-bar vibe.  My creative-writing prof, early 80s, was friends with Madonna's dance instructor.

Remember that too.  My mom (and everyone's mom) was, as you said, freaked out with fear.

This is majorly creepy information to take in.  Bundy was here and didn't stay because of the weather...dear God...

Also.  In the 70s and early 80s, Dooley's had a reputation for not asking for ID and thus being a popular hangout for underage drinkers.  The local nickname was "High Schooley's"

PSU notched up another loss, so that was cool.  No love for Purdue, mind you.

I'm not getting over this.  Beilein is owed an abject apology from the league.

"You have not had three strikes, you've had twenty.  Three should be more than enough however. If you can't do your job, send in someone who can"?

You know, like what happens at most other jobs??

I have not seen EGJ here so.... F Penn State and their JoePa loving fans!!

That was one guy?  The voice was so grating it sounded like multiple voices from people having root canals without anesthetic.

Even they are just bad.... as opposed to being biased and bad... is that OK for the job?

Also the bias argument gains a lot of traction with the treatment of Coach Beilein.

02/12/2019 - 11:21pm Yes, the "double dribble"…

Yes, the "double dribble" penalty concept was taught to my high school girls PE class, during the week or two when we played basketball.  In the late 1970s.

Lewis Garrison has some 'splainin to do.  He flat out sucks

It's easy to criticize performance, but I won't, because I can't imagine what it must feel like to be in that situation, college kids playing a game that is supposed to be fair and knowing in the back of your mind that it doesn't matter what you do.

There's nothing we can do.  Home field advantage and corrupt officiating

Like anyone who has some petty power and abuses it... they don't want to be called out on it.

And you're not a terribly clever liar, BIGfootball2111.  You are not tired of anything, you are from another fan base and created your account NOW to troll.

the mic placement has captured a portion of the PSU crowd who sound like they're undergoing dental surgery with no anesthesia

The refs are good at missing fouls on Pedo State... our player gets hit in the head, no call...

02/12/2019 - 9:49pm This jerk is his basketball…

This jerk is his basketball equivalent.

He's not just incompetent, though, he clearly hates Michigan and seems to take things way too personally to be a ref.  Thanks Delaney.

02/12/2019 - 9:44pm They're showing the replay. …

They're showing the replay.  These refs really suck.. they were going to screw us over no matter what so I HEART Beilein for standing up to them.

02/12/2019 - 9:41pm Weak sauce, refs.  Weak

Weak sauce, refs.  Weak

Can't people be nice...

02/08/2019 - 10:38pm it is such, absolute,…

it is such, absolute, flipping BS.

The facts are nowhere near similar to Shea's situation, and since that is being compared, look how much more difficult it was for Michigan to get a halfway decent QB via transfer.

It isn't just Bama that has ruined college football.  It's all that home cooking in the South and West.  This is why people better accept that Harbaugh is doing the best anyone can with what we have.

And OSU lags JUST behind Bama in fielding talent.  After this fall and seeing how the OSU Board of Trustees handled things... it was so clear they took a page out of the Tuscaloosa playbook.

Thanks for the post.  Heard on the radio this morning he was in hospice.

let's see now, what's his name?  Emmert?  He needs to pull his head out of his ass and quit pretending he is Goodell.

02/06/2019 - 11:09pm it might be incomprehensible…

it might be incomprehensible to you but people can, and do, walk away from money.

You won't find that very often, of course, just be open to the idea that it does happen.

02/06/2019 - 10:57pm Found your post very…

Found your post very interesting (well you've never had a post that wasn't).

What I get from it?  Mattison puts care and thought into everything he does.

OSU, even after what they did to us in their hellhole of a stadium with their hyped-up football squad, has insecurities that Day was working to address.  Said insecurities led him to someone he knew and trusted from previous jobs... Mattison.

What does this say about Mattison, Harbaugh, Day... Mattison is respected because he's the guy that if you hire him, he has your back.  That's worth more than money to head coaches.  It means you can trust him.  He will be 100% loyal to whoever is signing his paycheck.

Day needed him more than Harbaugh does at this point in time.  I'd like to think Mattison will be conducting espionage and sabotage behind enemy lines, it's far more likely he will be helping Day accomplish whatever he needs to.  I just hope it won't matter to us.

02/05/2019 - 10:41pm Seconded.  Things can happen…

Seconded.  Things can happen in a young person's life.  I hope he can regroup, and overcome whatever obstacles are in his path, so that he can at least earn his degree, and hopefully rejoin his team.  Seems like it means something to him.

02/04/2019 - 10:53pm I'm going to be honest about…

I'm going to be honest about something I never talk about.

Not a vegetarian.  I eat beef and chicken but don't want to know how it originated before winding up in the market or on my plate.

02/04/2019 - 10:41pm Not every element of law…

Not every element of law school education applies here.  I get where you're coming from though.  I would just offer that bargaining power is a complex concept in this scenario.

Doesn't Goodell get booed every time he approaches a podium?

I don't feel sorry for him, he can handle it.  The NCAA commissioner should get double the boos.

Let's not even talk about what high school teachers must be contending with.

Your perspective is good.  We can't fix officials, and there is stuff that can be worked on, Go Blue!

02/01/2019 - 5:50pm I don't know what happened,…

I don't know what happened, did not even click on the story to find out.  If it's true we'll find out soon enough.  As far as your statement "this doesn't bode well for the head coach" actually it does bode well.  Whether it's for rules violations or voluntary seeking of playing time elsewhere, a certain amount of shuffling every year is expected and does "bode well" for a competitive program that does things the right way.  This isn't PSU, MSU or OSU.

Sending healing vibes.  Hope the little cutie is OK

01/30/2019 - 11:26pm AAPS closed, I think they…

AAPS closed, I think they are going to regret some earlier decisions as there can't be any snow days left after this.  UM also closed, (except essential services) which used to be almost unheard of.  Staying in with my highschooler and soon to be UM grad (who will be a UM grad student in the fall). My workplace stayed open, but I've been working from home and don't plan to return until Friday.  We are good for food and grateful for heat and hot water.  After the emergency alerts, I will dial down the overnight heat from 70 to 68.

01/30/2019 - 11:11pm Indeed.  I talked with…

Indeed.  I talked with someone recently who has been there for our games in Columbus.  Their advice, when I asked about attending, was to attend any other away game venue. Even including East Lansing.  That's quite a statement.

01/30/2019 - 10:40pm "Lack of institutional…

"Lack of institutional control" is a serious finding that can certainly result in NCAA sanctions.. maybe only if the NCAA's own findings agree with the conclusions of.... everyone else.

01/29/2019 - 11:42pm well WOOOOOO !!!!!

well WOOOOOO !!!!!

01/28/2019 - 11:51pm You might be different, than…

You might be different, than a lot of people, if you enforce accountability at your organization, MGrowOld.  Which is to your credit.

People on the outside looking in, don't necessarily know what someone is good at or not, and people on the inside might take a while to reach that knowledge.  Sometimes it takes trial, error and tinkering.  The best leaders will capitalize on the strengths of each person.

As far as Michigan's staff and Hamilton, there are too many unknowns.  There is a lot of human factor and specialized knowledge that doesn't translate to a language that everyone is fluent in, although there's no shortage of people who think they know better.

Unfortunately, people in all kinds of orgs from profit to nonprofit, once they reach a certain level, might know far less than people in many job levels below theirs, and suffer no consequence.  That's the Peter Principle, a longstanding and affable term for someone who either enables dysfunction through incompetence or provides a safety net for people not performing even as they feather their own nest.... usually both.

College football, at least to my eyes, doesn't seem conducive to harboring examples of Peter Principle.  It's just too competitive of a world.  There are only two outcomes, W and L and often the difference, especially nowadays, comes down to a razor thin factor.

01/28/2019 - 11:23pm Ah yes, Dean Cain.

Ah yes, Dean Cain.

He's one of the Hallmark stable of actors, which I am actually not saying disparagingly as I will watch these movies whenever I want to see something simple, uncomplicated and happy.
