This Duke squad is one of the most physically gifted in the top 6 spots or so in a long time.  When they decide to space the floor and move the ball, they are almost unstoppable. Jones is very talented, but put X with this group and it would be a juggernaut.

Boo this man.  Celebrate the good things in life and UM fandom.

If you cannot re-energize during the off-season - especially with a strong recruiting class and exciting additions to the coaching staff - then you are suffering serious NEBPONE and need help.

[i was in section 28 when the CU fluke occurred. Quietest stadium I ever experienced after the fact.]

Not the best start for a poster - certainly smells like a troll.

02/01/2019 - 9:29pm Meh. Not uncommon for…

Meh. Not uncommon for Beilein teams to struggle at this point, the shooting was awful at 32% or whatever, Iowa was unconscious, this team lacks a legitimate backup 5 and the officiating was crapola. Hope UM gets them in the B1G tourney - they will smoke them on a neutral court.

01/20/2019 - 11:02pm Well, Mahomes is the 23 yr… Well, Mahomes is the 23 yr old rising star of the NFL and about to sign a $200m contract after arguably one of the top 3 seasons in NFL QB history. But he will have to wait another season or two while Brady still rules the playoff roost.
01/19/2019 - 11:28pm “Dirtier” basically…

“Dirtier” basically eliminates the top 30 or so recruits. There should be ample talent from 30-75.

I agree with the conclusion - why is a stretch/reach prospect even on the board for the #2 team a year after playing for the NC and run by one of the best talent developers?

He needs the short escape hatch from OSU to USC for 2020 ...

01/12/2019 - 7:04pm Disappointing:  Nebraska at…

Disappointing:  Nebraska at 2-3

Overachieving: MSU - the offensive production has been surprising and Cassius has really raised his game (need X to put on the clamps)

Plummet: MD - just not as good at 5-1 indicates

Run: Northwestern - just a guess and schedule is hard over the next few games, but I think NU will make a run after UM beats them in AA

Depth of talent. High quality OL. Eilite RBs.

01/07/2019 - 8:09pm Quite a mercenary move.  The…

Quite a mercenary move.  The OSU AD is not highly regarded like the UM AD in many ways - and that says nothing about his supposed love of what UM stands for and the AA lifestyle.

The guy is definitely not a dude anymore. Just a guy who passed thru AA. Onward.

Congrats to David.  I expect him to produce fantastic testing numbers and go day 2.

Agree 100%.  Meyer recruited extremely well at OSU - imagine his classes at USC.

01/01/2019 - 9:26pm How about JUCO admissions at…

How about JUCO admissions at OSU to pull in the occasional key recruit?  How about Dwan Mathis who was never an academic take? There is a difference at the fringe with UM more restrictive in admissions.

Regardless, admissions is not major factors that separate the level of winning by the two programs. There are other fundamental programs and institutional reasons.

01/01/2019 - 8:51pm Agreed. A handful have…

Agreed. A handful have ruined the board the last few weeks. Unfortunately, some of them probably believe they are tru Michigan fans who simply drag down the whole discourse. A portion of the fan base who should just spend more time reading and far less typing.

01/01/2019 - 8:32pm OSU is a very good school…

OSU is a very good school with an elite football program.

UM is an elite school with a very good football program.

Fixed your factual mistake.

01/01/2019 - 8:29pm Football factory with…

Football factory with minimal institutional oversight that recruits like a very good SEC team with an elite coach.

Athletic program with heavy institutional oversight that recruits like a very good B1G team with a very good coach.

Those two equations produce very different outcomes,

01/01/2019 - 5:30pm OSU is loaded with talent…

OSU is loaded with talent. Their athletes and depth are vastly different than the rest of the B1G - Meter’s recruiting over the last 5 years built an impressive roster.

01/01/2019 - 4:04pm Ah, confirmation bias at its…

Ah, confirmation bias at its finest ... truth doesn’t matter if I like the implication or the messenger.

01/01/2019 - 12:29pm There was some talent in the…

There was some talent in the cupboard - but the even bigger and harder issue to fix was the culture.  The 105 players were fully conditioned in complacency and entitlement. He took that talent to 10-3 by overhauling the culture.

OSU remains the real issue. At this point, there is still a meaningful talent gap with OSU (and there was a gap with UF with our best 4 out). Culture alone won’t beat them. Harbaugh will need to recruit better and prepare the team better to beat OSU. Expect more changes this offseason just like the numerous bug changes last year.

01/01/2019 - 11:39am To elevate the O (what you…

To elevate the O (what you call modern football), will require a lot of persistence to evaluate and change coaching staff, analysts, practice structure, etc.

JH surely knows that he must take the next step or two to make it better - more explosiveness, better 2-minute capability, and reliable run game in big games. He did it last year with the O issues and there is no reason to expect him to stand pat.

01/01/2019 - 10:40am Well, Swinney went 10-3 in…

Well, Swinney went 10-3 in his sixth season so he apparently did “look back” by regressing to the apparently unacceptable record of this 2018 UM season.

Swinney also went 40-21 thru the first 4.6 seasons (since you’ve excluded 2007 in your calculation of “4th”) after taking over a team that went 9-4 in 2006. He suffered humiliating losses by double digits and the 70-33 annilihilation in the Orange Bowl.

The UM pitchfork crowd would’ve gone crazy with 40-21 (Harbaugh is 38-14) and would’ve run Swinney out of town after 6-7 in 2010. We never would have experienced the long stretch of excellence.

01/01/2019 - 10:24am And no one predicted our 3…

And no one predicted our 3-game destruction of PSU, MSU and UW.

The 2018 squad ended the year 10-3 and 8-1 in the B1G.  Yep, that 1 loss to OSU stings and it would sting regardless of the score. But 10-3 is a good season even by Michigan standards.

01/01/2019 - 10:15am Pretty much sums it up…

Pretty much sums it up. There are numerous areas to debate about how situations or schemes are handled, but the lunacy fringes on both sides just wear out the meaningful dialog.

Harbaugh has turned around the program. The culture of entitlement and complacency is gone. Harbaugh is winning at a clip (75%) consistent with UM’s long history. He has surpassed MSU (38-14 v 32-20) and handled PSU (3-1) & UW (2-1). He has differentiated UM with the spring trips, clean program, upstanding guys and fantastic APR.

Now the program needs to get past OSU. Harbaugh himself said that UM has reached the hump but has to find a way to get over the hump. He didn’t prepare the team well enough for OSU - he can read a scoreboard. He is far too ambitious and competitive to settle for just reaching the hump or letting OSU beat his alma mater.

The guy bleeds Blue and works tirelessly to make UM an elite program. His persistence and resilience have already made a huge difference. He is our best path forward.

You could not have misused “begs the question” any worse than this post.  An utterly perfect misuse.

This is perhaps the worst comment on Mgoblog today. Absolutely zero fact or thought basis.

Congratulations.

12/31/2018 - 8:41pm Big word: schadenfreude.

Big word: schadenfreude.

Try it, it’s just the emotion to deal with our UM blues.

Two other bowl games and Netflix to pass the time. Sparty isn’t worth the time.

BPONE is even starting to creep into the viewing of basketball. 4-9 Binghamton cannot possibly keep this close ...

12/30/2018 - 12:14pm The guy is a Clemson alum…

The guy is a Clemson alum with a great gig and his next job is likely a HC job. No way he moves up north to OC at UM.

We will have to find a less decorated but equally skilled version of Tony.  Probably need to consider Div II coaches from Ferris St or NW Missouri to give them a national platform to prove themselves to get a DI job.

12/30/2018 - 11:39am Northwestern (8-4) on the…

Northwestern (8-4) on the road was a win of consequence - especially since NU won the West.

Elite team? No.

12/30/2018 - 11:20am The NCAA and the majority if…

The NCAA and the majority if the football factories do not truly want to stop PEDs or suspend any users because it could taint the money machine. Just like the NCAA has stopped enforcing recruiting violations.

The small sample testing is simply to support a public position of “we ensure fair competition and want to protect the student-athletes.” All BS.

12/29/2018 - 7:51pm Agree. These trips are…

Agree. These trips are really a clear statement that the college experience should be more than just football.  The only animosity toward the trip must be fueled by envy or pettiness, because a week-long trip with education mixed with tourism is a perfect fit for a global university like Michigan.

12/29/2018 - 5:19pm Unless you are a big donor…

Unless you are a big donor alum or a former all-America, then “our saying enough” is irrelevant.

Schlissel and Warde are perfectly ok with 10-3, a major bowl game, clean program and good guys on the roster.

12/29/2018 - 4:56pm So a 10-3 team has 10.5…

So a 10-3 team has 10.5 starters back on O with some high-quality recruits and 7 starters on D with home games against ND, OSU and MSU.

I doubt too many fand will sit out that season.  Maybe 2020.

12/29/2018 - 4:45pm Nah, he knows that he is…

Nah, he knows that he is starting on the first day that he walks on campus.

Shambles. Unprepared. Sloppy. Poor tackling. No energy.

I actually think JH lost his team in the 2nd half vs OSU and never won them back. They still looked tired & uninspired today.

12/29/2018 - 4:36pm Bingo. OL should be better,…

Bingo. OL should be better, WRs better, QB better.  We need to find some DT depth and a MLB.

Biggest hole - an OC who can get this group into synch and stretch the field. Watching the Cotton Bowl and very impressed by Dabo’s ability to get his O flowing in the big games.

12/29/2018 - 4:25pm No one. The job at UM is…

No one. The job at UM is incredibly hard for a few reasons: 1) zero tolerance for violations - the admin was seriously miffed with just the taint if stretchgate, 2) academic standards - not like Stanford level but the unwillingness to take JCs and even a guy like Van Jefferson who hurt us today, 3) no thugs - no way would 2 UM guys would be involved in a questionable shooting and playing a few days later like LSU or have a player caught on campus with a loaded handgun with no missed time like Williams at Bama, 4) our football alums have an incredible voice in the AD and they want old school football.

Don Brown can wake up every morning for the next year and think about ND, OSU and UF - his unit was abused in all 3 games.

Hudson’s tirade on the sideline also signals a group that has lost interest. Give Khaleke a ton of credit for playing all the way with heart.

Harbaugh has lost this team.  I didn’t think it would happen again after losing the team for the season after Peters went down at UW last year, but it happened again.

12/29/2018 - 2:46pm There is certainly a pattern…

There is certainly a pattern developing with the team playing poorly at the end of the season. The last 3 years all finished with low energy and poor offense.

Harbaugh needs to get it fixed if we are going to have any chance of winning championships.

12/29/2018 - 2:36pm Which is more discouraging:…

Which is more discouraging: This 10-win season or the 10-win season in 2016?

12/29/2018 - 2:32pm Nice tackling.

Nice tackling.

12/29/2018 - 2:23pm If it ends this way, BPONE…

If it ends this way, BPONE will linger with me the entire offseason. Just not much to get excited about if this staff continues to run the offense.

Mullen is just outscheming Harbaugh to death.

12/29/2018 - 2:19pm Well, 3 years ago a Michigan…

Well, 3 years ago a Michigan team executed a nearly flawless offensive show to pummel the Gators.  Rudock, Butt and Chesson were excellent. Game calling was creative and timely. McElwain looked lost.

Mullen is returning the favor today.
