I (coincidentally) had a Raiders hat in high school right before NWA popularized them.   If both Gary and Hurst are on the Raiders, I may have to get another one.

I'd like to take credit for it, but I wasn't ten yet and was never into jumping individuals with my bros.  Though I could see Ted Bundy deserving it.

You can get the Michigan Insider on Spotify.  I’m guessing the MgoPodcast too.

BTW I don’t know which is worse Ayn Rand’s writing or her philosophy.

02/14/2019 - 12:54pm It's sort of a self…

It's sort of a self-fulfilling prophesy type of thing though isn't it?  If Alabama wants a guy he is at minimum a 3-star recruit.   If Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and OSU want a kid he is at a minimum a 4-star recruit.  Kids that go to camps get more offers and exposure and are rated higher.  (Shane Morris went to a ton of camps and was a 5-star for a period of time.  )

If we're taking 2-stars who've been to all of the camps and have no offers, shame on us.   If we're taking unrated guys like Ronnie Bell who never went to a football camp it is a different story.

Stars also favor the guys who mature early.    A lot of guys don't get their full size until their senior year.  John Beilein has made out like a bandit getting guys who are young for their class and/or late bloomers.

So you're saying Meyer would have just claimed prima nocta without calling?

I'm upset Meyer left because I wanted Harbaugh to beat him.   Confident Harbaugh will beat Day and looking forward to Meyer taking over ND in a couple years so we can get our revenge.  Meyer is a great coach, but he walked into a sweetheart situation at OSU (and made it better.)  Hate that guy.

What does that hat mean?   Did I miss it in the key?   I'm assuming it means he's a douchebag.

Still don't get why Drew Singleton left.  Seems like he had a chance to get in there.

I think we should get three.  One for each AA campus.   Should throw in a Woodson and Greise one too.

02/07/2019 - 1:27pm I get that Dabo played at…

I get that Dabo played at Alabama, but him leaving Clemson would be bad for college football.  You can go to new places, but once you've built something you've got to keep it going.  I like that Jeff Brohm stayed at Purdue to try to keep building something.  Saban has been almost unstoppable at Alabama, but going from MSU to LSU and then to Bama after the NFL makes him a douche*.  Urban Meyer going to OSU after Florida is douchey.  Meyer going to his next college gig will be even more douchey.

*forgive my lack of good words to describe this phenomenon.

Seriously though,  no one actually knows how much Pep is responsible for because of all of the committee stuff.  Good luck to you Pep.

02/01/2019 - 9:23am I was at OSU the in 1992…

I was at OSU the in 1992 when we tied 13-13 at the height of the roid era.   It was the only school I've ever been at where the students were bigger than the football players.  I avoided getting in a fight, but there was a lot of threatening yells and really drunk people.  I've hate great experiences at PSU, Purdue, Wisconsin, and even Northwestern and I want to go back to all of them.  I don't have a lot of desire to go back to Columbus.   (MSU is very meh.)

01/31/2019 - 5:10pm Thank you.   I wanted to…

Thank you.   I wanted to bask in all of the stars and badges.   It's like our team works at Shennanigans and have their 13 pieces of flair.

01/31/2019 - 4:15pm I like seeing Michigan…

I like seeing Michigan players do well in the NBA, but I haven't watched a full NBA game since the last Piston's championship runs with Ben Wallace and that long armed dude Tayshawn Prince.  ...and it was when the original bad boys made their run before that.

I did watch 5 minutes of a Pistons game after they got Blake Griffin.

I love the line up card.   Is there one for Michigan's team? (Didn't find it googling.)

My memory is fuzzy on the timing, but the combo of Tom Brady and Ty Law let me justify being a Patriots fan.

01/31/2019 - 12:56pm I've never seen PSU's hockey…

I've never seen PSU's hockey helmets before.  Michigan's helmets are obviously the coolest, but it is sweet that PSU copied us and had their hockey helmets look like their football helmets.   I'm not normally a sports fashionista, but that's pretty cool.

If no one ever gets punished for high profile crimes, people will end up exacting their own punishment.

I was going to joke that wheelchair bound FDR didn't enjoy golf, but evidently he was very passionate about it.

01/30/2019 - 10:25am "give Harbaugh time."

"give Harbaugh time."

This implies that we might fire him at some point.  Harbaugh has righted the ship.  Am I happy with 3 loss seasons?   No.    Every season we don't win the Big Ten is a disappointment.  Not beating OSU this year hurt.   Literally not showing up against Florida hurt.  ...but Harbaugh has us in a position where winning the Big Ten comes down to the Michigan-OSU game which is what it should be.  We'll be winning that game on a regular basis with Harbaugh.

01/29/2019 - 5:17pm On January 19th, 1994 it was…

On January 19th, 1994 it was -61 degrees and the DIDN'T CANCEL CLASSES!  In fact there were negative temperatures for what seemed like the entire winter.   I lived in, wait for it, West Quad, and the dorm couldn't pump out enough heat so it only got up to ~61 degrees inside.  Yeah, it was 100 degrees warmer, but you still didn't ever get fully warm.

We were tougher back then.   People played in bowl games.  We walked up hill* to class both ways.  No one transferred and we were all champions.

*Hill street.   I actually just cut through the union, but it was possible to walk up Hill Street both ways.

01/29/2019 - 2:17pm Yes an no.   The athletes…

Yes an no.   The athletes aren't getting perfect ACTs/SATs like most of the students at Stanford, but their standard is significantly above the NCAA minimum.  All of the kids we lost to them were really smart kids.   Hence Harbaugh's 2007 comments.

Michigan is above the NCAA minimum in most cases too, which is why we're competing with Stanford for recruits, but we're not going to tell a kid like D'Shawn Hand that he can handle Michigan Engineering and Michigan Football.

Stanford and Northwestern are the only schools who I've ever thought were earnest about not lowering their standards and I have my doubts about Northwestern.

Last article says Stanford students need a 26 ACT whereas I believe the NCAA minimum used to be 16 (25 years ago).

Just looked up that Tacko Falls guy.  Pictures of him playing [Ndyiae] from UC Irvine who is also 7’6”.  I guess neither had a good game, but it is interesting to see guys that big if and when they develop some skill.

01/29/2019 - 8:42am You must not pay any…

You must not pay any attention to recruiting.  We lose at least one guy a year to Stanford after he gets accepted.  Stanford doesn’t let people in unless they meet Stanford’s (athletic?) academic standards.

01/28/2019 - 4:51pm Mark Messner.   Great…

Mark Messner.   Great article.  I remember when Messner was drafted by the LA Rams.  They were going to turn him into a linebacker because he was too small to play on the line at 6'3" 225.

It's insane that we had a star D lineman who was 225-235 just 30 odd years ago.   I guess he was an end, but still.

JUB said something about being a freshman in 1983.    He's not too much older than I am.  From listening to him on the radio I would have sworn he was in his late 70's.

I think that is a safe prediction as there are transfers every year. Predicting dismissals from the team would be true prognostication.

it's like Spartan fans counting the B1G Championship game in Indianapolis as the only B1G Championship to have ever existed.

01/24/2019 - 10:10am Are there any tea leaves in…

Are there any tea leaves in the transfer portal?  What does it mean that 11 PSU players are transferring?     Illinois has 3 offensive linemen transferring out, but one transferring in from Alabama.

01/24/2019 - 9:39am I thought Lloyd putting…

I thought Lloyd putting Henson in was a crime (back then, and in retrospect) because Henson hadn't earned it yet.   At various points Brady credited that battle as a contributing factor as to what made him the GOAT.  I get transferring if you're never going to get to play where you are at, but you need to compete to be a competitor.   Weird that Jackson is transferring.

01/23/2019 - 3:41pm Go Mike Hart.   I hate ND …

Go Mike Hart.   I hate ND (and Saint Mary's) with a passion, but ND is a good institution and a great opportunity for Hart.  It's not like he's going directly from coaching at Michigan to ND or some other school. *cough* F Mattison  *cough*

01/23/2019 - 2:14pm All the star gazers bitch…

All the star gazers bitch about not being able to win the national championship without all 5* recruits.  Yet our recruiting rankings have been comparable to or better than Clemson the last 5-6 years (except 2015).

The jury is out on the new coaches (I'm optimistic), but I think we'll have a helluva team next year.

01/23/2019 - 8:01am Played football at 185,…

Played football at 185, wrestled at 155.   Senior year after the state tournament I went up to 190 in two weeks.   I was drinking 12 Mountain Dews a day.
