My daughter is a sophomore and is doing the camps right now. You are correct in that they can't contact her until she's a junior, but she can reach out to them with emails and get instruction from the coaches at the camps.

It's Saturday morning so:

1) Diet Coke

2) The last play in the game where Devin Gardner played with a broken foot against Ohio State. A Michigan receiver should've caught that ball to win the game.

3) Some Jackson Five hits.

I long ago released my husband from having to get me something on Valentine's Day. The best thing he does for me is pick up a diet coke at 7-11 after he drops off our daughter at school. I really don't want anything else except for him to be thoughtful every now and again.

Unless it's coming from Timmy Lupus and a bottle of beer is tossed at the opposing team.

02/05/2019 - 3:25pm In regards to passions and…

In regards to passions and professions, I had just quit my well-paying advertising job to take a minimum wage pastry assistant job at a pastry shop because it was my passion. The night before I started, I was watching a money show on CNN and the featured guy was talking about this exact thing. His bottom line: don't make your passion your profession. His reasoning: jobs can turn tasks into drudgery, and you don't want your passion to become drudgery. And two, more than likely, a passion isn't a big money maker. It can be, but chances are, it's not. Go make money, and enjoy your passion away from the job. I somewhat agree, although I think it's a waste of time to keep a job you hate or one that makes you unhappy. But it doesn't sound like you're aware of his passions. Maybe he's not either. Before going back to school, he should at least have a clear idea of the direction he wants to take.

02/03/2019 - 9:58pm I was an advertising…

I was an advertising copywriter in the 90's. I worked on Bud Light when they had the best SB ads, year after year. I was in a group of about 8 really talented teams, and we all competed to get our SB spots produced. There was no guarantee it would air, even if you produced a spot. August Busch was the decider. It was HIGH pressure stuff. The agency's reputation depended on the USA Today poll, and the client expected top tens every year. I got one in around 1996, and it was fantastic seeing it on the SB. But if I had to endure all that pressure today, no way I could do it. I wasn't married yet; my whole life was my career. Finding the elusive sweet spot -- that balance between entertainment and selling -- was so challenging, I thought about it 24 hours a day. And I burned out.

We have an old house and it's drafty in the winter so my husband cut pieces of rug pad and stapled them to the bottom of the doors to prevent air from seeping in. Works great.

01/23/2019 - 3:13pm My stepfather had a red GTO…

My stepfather had a red GTO with a rag top when he first met my mother. He was great with kids, had two of his own, and used to make us laugh all the time. One of the things he did was take us through the automatic car wash in that car. There was a tear in the roof and the water would come streaming in, not enough to water log the thing, but enough to get all us kids squealing with delight. That was a bitchin' car.

01/23/2019 - 3:08pm The craziest was my 1988…

The craziest was my 1988 Alfa Romeo Spider. RWD, lightweight, no snow tires. I did a 360 while driving down a side street in Chicago at about 15 or 20 mph. I'm so lucky I didn't hit any parked cars. I wasn't even braking. Just driving along, and then in a tail spin. Best car is the one I have now, an Audi. We had a big storm a while back and I took my son to the airport. The visibility was close to zero, the snow was blowing around and accumulating fast. I never felt out of control.

01/22/2019 - 2:15pm There used to be a place…

There used to be a place called OSS (Old School Sausages) that had great cheese curds and even better t-shirts with their logo and OSS on the front and Ohio State Sucks on the back. I just looked it up and it's unfortunately closed. Regardless, cheese curds are a must.

01/17/2019 - 6:04pm No concerns. It's fine…

No concerns. It's fine getting on the highway, but it's not going to light anyone up. Our year is a four speed automatic, which tells the story. My husband drives it now because our daughter isn't getting her license until March. He's not really a car guy and it serves him fine. As for space, it isn't the Forester but for us, it's fine. I transport furniture in it (large upholstered chairs) and it's fine.

01/17/2019 - 12:24pm We bought a Crosstrek for…

We bought a Crosstrek for our second/kids car. It's worked out very well. First my son drove it, now my daughter. We've had one very minor fender bender (not my son's fault; someone hit the car while it was parked) and it's not so nice that I care. We'll just drive it until it's done or isn't worth anything. It's been problem free for three years.

01/17/2019 - 12:20pm We have a newer model Subaru…

We have a newer model Subaru Crosstrek that our kids drive. It's been 100% reliable. The only issue I had was draining the battery when I listened to the radio sans engine for 45 minutes. I don't know if that's considered normal, but with a jump, I was back in business. We drive in the snow and it's very competent in that capacity. Also, it doesn't tempt you (them) to put pedal to the medal. It's not a performance car. I would recommend it.

01/16/2019 - 10:07am I just roasted two bone-in…

I just roasted two bone-in skin-on chicken breasts last night for chicken pot pie but I could have made gravy by using the pan drippings. After the chicken is cooked, the fat that's left behind -- and it was only about 2 tablespoons -- is the base. You add a couple of tbs. of flour and stir over medium heat for two minutes. It may seem pasty, but you then add stock or broth (canned or boxed is fine) that's been heated, a little at a time, while whisking, just enough to create a medium thick gravy. It will thicken a little as it cools. If you want super smooth gravy, you can strain it, but I like the little bits of deeply cooked chicken skin that were left in the pan from roasting the chicken. You can also add a bit of cream if you want a creamier gravy, but to me, that's gilding the lily. Taste it, and if you need to, add salt and pepper. Very easy.

Gotta say Mattison now. Going to Ohio State was dead wrong.

Our son needed a car for college so we "gave" him our GTI. I love it but we're going to be doing a lot of road trips in the next couple of years so I needed something with more room and that could really handle the snow. As you may remember, I'm a car enthusiast who loves to drive so there were only a couple of cars that would tick all the boxes. I ended up with an Audi SQ5. It is fantastic. It handles like a sports car. I drove it in heavy snow on the highway and I've never felt as safe driving in the snow. It cost an arm and a leg and a kidney, but what a great f-ing car/crossover.

When has he ever answered a question like that in a press conference?

12/29/2018 - 7:21pm I'm not blaming them. Look,…

I'm not blaming them. Look, if you're playing Ohio State and maybe expect them to be lame and instead, they come out on fire and you realize you're not going to win -- and you're leaving for the NFL -- do you unconsciously pull back a little? Either way, it does come down to coaching. Next man up, so the coaches better have an equally good next man. I don't disagree with you on that.

12/29/2018 - 6:45pm I'm not suggesting they did…

I'm not suggesting they did it intentionally. But building on all the specifics you gave, is it possible this team wasn't together -- some guys are self-promoting, others are worrying about getting injured, etc..and whatever else is going on, and it all added up.

12/29/2018 - 5:03pm This game was destined to be…

This game was destined to be a loss, what with JBB, Devin Bush, Higdon, and all the other NFL-er's sitting this one out. Is it fair to blame the coaches when they literally don't have the best players on the team? Also makes me wonder about the Ohio State game, and whether all those same players were just playing it safe, to avoid injuries, knowing they were leaving. Not saying they were; just wondering if that factors in mentally. Honestly, I'm not even sure why we play in a bowl under these circumstances.

We're eating Chinese on Christmas Day this year, along with a showing of "Young Frankenstein." My kids have grown up with the worst movies; it's time to introduce them to some greats. Also, we watched "Elf" a few days ago, which is our favorite Christmas movie.

I'm a Michigan alum, along with my brother and two of his kids. I just sent my son to Denison in Ohio. He loves it. It's a great fit for him. A ways back, I dreamed of my kids going to Michigan. Not anymore. We don't live in state so maybe that's part of it (hugely expensive OOS) but also, let's be honest. You can still be a successful, happy person if you don't go to Michigan.

12/10/2018 - 11:19pm The last time I smoked was…

The last time I smoked was 1987, Michigan graduation weekend. My roommate's brother brought us a cigarette pack filled with 20 joints and my housemates and I were really high all weekend. Parents had no idea. I drove home on that Monday and I was still high from smoking Friday and Saturday non-stop.

And women. I was just wondering if kids today roll joints anymore. Do roach clips still exist?

Also, I once went to the emergency room with pain in my left shoulder that radiated down my arm. I was really freaked out. My blood pressure was through the roof, which was not normal for me. They kept me overnight and found nothing cardiac. It was determined that I have an issue with my neck and it causes radiating pain on my left side. Don't be afraid to go. It might not be worst case scenario, and it will give you peace of mind.

12/09/2018 - 2:49pm I just saw a cardiologist…

I just saw a cardiologist for a routine exam. I'm having a calcium heart scan done in a few weeks, and I've been on a statin for 22 years. I'm 53, and have low blood pressure and great cholesterol numbers but every male on my father's side died from a heart attack in their 50's and early 60's. I'm a woman, so I don't know if the genes carry to me, but I don't really want to find out. Be proactive! Glad you were and everything turned out ok.
