Down here in Florida on vacation where It'll be 77 and sunny today.  Today will be beachtime, bourbon, and relaxation!

I hate Duke.  I REALLY hope VA wins this game.

02/08/2019 - 4:19pm Phil Hubbard was a mainstay…

Phil Hubbard was a mainstay of the Michigan basketball team when I first started following them when I was in high school.  Those two seasons 75/76 and 76/77 were amazing for a small, scrappy team.  Hubbard was the "giant" at 6-7 and only a freshman in 75/76.  But he played much bigger than his size and age those seasons.  In the spring of 1977, which was my senior year of high school, they were ranked #1 in the country much of the time.  However, they met an early exit in the NCAA tournament from UNC Charlotte.  After that year, the program seemed to fall into a down period until the 80's when Frieder was able to bring in some better players.

02/08/2019 - 1:07pm All the attrition of late at…

All the attrition of late at RB is an even bigger problem after Michigan missed on Gray in the last recruiting class. That only gives us one true scholarship RB in the 2019 class.

02/07/2019 - 6:20pm As a kid, I remember going…

As a kid, I remember going to a baseball game at Tiger Stadium in the late 60's when the Orioles were in town.  It was the old "Field Day" where you were allowed onto the field for a period of time to take pictures.  Frank Robinson was one of their players, and this was during the Orioles glory days.  He was one of the great players of all time and it's sad to see him gone.

02/07/2019 - 6:10pm If Iggy and and Poole both…

If Iggy and and Poole both come back, I'd be ecstatic.  I'm assuming Matthews is gone.  But, with those guys back, plus Teske and Simpson, plus the rest of the vaunted freshman class as sophomores, plus the two new guys, watch out next year for Michigan.  We'll be better than this year and almost a lock for the Final Four.

02/06/2019 - 2:24pm This.  I can't understand…

This.  I can't understand either all the derision and making fun of Hoke on this blog by people.  As you say he's a really good person who had the very best of intentions for the school and his players.  Yes, he was in over his head.  But his failures here don't justify the angry or mean jibes at him IMO.

02/06/2019 - 8:13am Rutgers was living off the…

Rutgers was living off the low post short shots for most of the first half and part of the 2nd.  Michigan will see more of that the rest of the season.  Although Teske can contest it to some degree, when he's on the bench we get exploited even more.  I think Teske is being careful too not to get whistled on some of the plays.  This makes it all the more critical for Michigan to hit its outside shots consistently.

02/05/2019 - 9:36pm The book is out apparently…

The book is out apparently on how to play us.  Other teams are pounding the ball down low to try and score or get us into foul trouble.  Then force us to beat them from the outside.  It's up to Michigan to respond to that.

02/05/2019 - 8:53pm Michigan's last shot…

Michigan's last shot attempts before half drive me crazy.  Even when they have 25-30 seconds, they'll waste most of it before going into their offense.  Then, with 10 seconds or less, they don't have enough time to work the ball around for a high % shot and often squander the chance.  I wish Beilein would fix that.

02/04/2019 - 9:32am Him getting booed is the…

Him getting booed is the only reason I watch the NFL draft.  It's hilarious.  It never matters which city the draft is being held, everyone hates him.  For good reason too.  He's paid by the greedy owners to be their fall-guy, who takes all the heat for whatever bad decision is made by the League.  They're all billionaires, so they don't mind all chipping in for his absurdly ridiculous salary.

That may be the worst game of the last 20 years.  Jeebus.

02/02/2019 - 6:34am Agree, but you forgot…

Agree, but you forgot Simpson's bad outside shooting too.  He and Matthews heaving up missed three after three are really hurting the team.  Especially against a zone heavy defense.  Michigan can't easily score inside to make up for it with Teske on the bench.  I saw this loss coming.  I was just hoping it wouldn't be by 16.

02/01/2019 - 8:10pm Michigan MUST get a run at…

Michigan MUST get a run at the beginning of this half to have a chance to win.  Otherwise the fat lady sings. Better

02/01/2019 - 7:44pm Michigan is completely out…

Michigan is completely out of sync on offense.  A win is unlikely.

02/01/2019 - 7:23pm Need Teske and Poole back in.

Need Teske and Poole back in.

01/30/2019 - 8:42am Damn right.  I've seen the U…

Damn right.  I've seen the U-M coaches from Orr and on, and Beilein is definitely the best.  And to me, it's not that close either.  I was literally waiting for decades to see a Michigan team that actually stressed and played with fundamental basketball skills/strategies.  For years, we out-talented many teams, but still lost to teams we had no business losing to.  It still happens, but a lot less than under the Frieder/Fisher regimes, when Michigan often had very talented teams.

01/30/2019 - 8:40am To at least be fair to Orr,…

To at least be fair to Orr, he was certainly underpaid back then.  Don Canham, as great of an overall AD as he was, was also a cheapskate.  He underpaid Bo as well.  And as loyal as Bo was, we almost lost him too.  The story with Orr leaving though was apparently Iowa State came sniffing around at Bill Frieder.  And when they asked Orr for permission to speak with him, Orr said he was interested.  Almost certainly, money had a lot to do with the move to IS.

01/28/2019 - 5:36pm Maybe in terms of the number…

Maybe in terms of the number of guys making a significant impact on the court this year.  But you have to see what all of them do in another year or two to really make a judgement.  Your example of Bingham, plus the other 4 Michigan freshman all have a lot of upside, but can't see the court due to the logjam in front of them.

01/26/2019 - 7:46pm Shots on goal 22-8 in favor…

Shots on goal 22-8 in favor of Michigan and we're behind 3-0.  WTF.  Great offense, but no luck. Defense needs some smelling salts.  Geez.

01/26/2019 - 7:30am Yes, I've endured watching…

Yes, I've endured watching Michigan lose there since the Orr days.  The officiating was openly biased for years, largely due to Bobby Knight intimidating them.  It was great to see IU didn't have that advantage last night.  In fact, I thought their coach was going to go after one of them at halftime.  😀

01/25/2019 - 7:43pm Yeah, like when they were…

Yeah, like when they were booing their own team?

01/24/2019 - 1:47pm It's amazing how many people…

It's amazing how many people there are who constantly hate on Tom Brady for being an arrogant, jerk - yet have zero personal knowledge of him or no specifics to back it up.  They look at random pictures of him taken by some paparazzi wearing some fashionable clothes or in some awkward moment and make asinine conclusions about him.  Most of these people I'm sure are just confusing their own petty jealousies and shortcomings with actual judgement.  Or they're just sick of the Patriots winning and direct all of the blame for that at TB.  As has been said many times here - haters gonna hate.

01/23/2019 - 1:28pm Matthews is kind of the…

Matthews is kind of the enigma now.  There's no real explanation why he's playing so poorly compared to his experience and ability - especially since he played so well in the tournament last year.  He's not doing himself any favors in regard to getting drafted highly to the NBA.

01/23/2019 - 6:50am 😅🤣😂

01/23/2019 - 6:45am Unfortunately, shooting…

Unfortunately, shooting slumps can be contagious among a team.  When it happens, even easy shots don't go in.  Teske seems to be the only one unaffected so far.  Maybe he took the antidote.  Hopefully the team gets over it quickly.

01/22/2019 - 7:51pm Michigan is in a classic…

Michigan is in a classic team shooting slump.  That's it.  It's not the defense.  We just stopped being able to hit outside shots.  They have to work their way out of it.   Or struggle games like this will continue.

01/21/2019 - 6:44am Going iso against Wisconsin…

Going iso against Wisconsin didn't cost us the game IMO.  We just couldn't hit our outside shots.  Other than Poole, we don't have a guy who hits them consistently enough.  That's our biggest weakness, more so than FT shooting.

01/19/2019 - 4:23pm It's hard to win a Big Ten…

It's hard to win a Big Ten game against a solid opponent, especially on the road when two key scorers like Matthews and Brazdeikis combine for 5 points.  I can forgive Iggy as a freshman for having a bad game.  But Matthews as a senior needs to help pull the team up in games like this.  He looked too inactive much of the time on offense, just standing around on the perimeter.  His quickness and athletic ability driving the ball was greatly missed today.  I don't think Wisconsin is that great.  But they seem to have it in for Michigan in that Trohl Center.

Whatever happend to MGoUser Yoda?  Some of the Yoda-speak was funny - until it wasn't.

01/17/2019 - 9:42am I thought Plocki said the…

I thought Plocki said the right things in her interview this morning and came across well despite the circumstances surrounding the decision.  She regretted the decision and apologized for it.  I think that's what a leader does in situations like this.  All of us sometimes make poor decisions in our jobs or everyday lives.  The important thing is owning up to them, fixing them as best as possible, and not letting them take on a life of their own by moving on.  Yes, Manuel did not handle this well.  He should have stuck with his first decision.  And then not made things worse by trying to keep it low key.  Overall, though, I'm glad the University eventually fixed it and it will likely be a good lesson for those involved.

01/16/2019 - 11:59am Yes, that's certainly true. …

Yes, that's certainly true.  But, the MSU BOT, like many of their past behaviors, was ignoring a huge problem hoping it would just go away rather than deal with it.  That's one of the reasons they got into the huge Nassar problem to begin with.  Sparties will be Sparties.

Certainly, LZ was one of the great bands, but best ever?  No, not really.  Most overplayed on the radio?  I'd vote yes on that one.  I can't listen to most of their songs just because I'm so tired of listening to them.  Stairway to Heaven however, is an exception.  I never seem to get tired of it.  I think it's easily one of the iconic songs of rock and roll history.

01/12/2019 - 5:33pm Really, there was about a 5…

Really, there was about a 5 or 6 year span right around 1969 that was the absolute golden age of Rock and Roll.  An unbelievable amount of innovative, classic songs and groups had their origin around then.

01/09/2019 - 4:50pm I think anywhere in the blue…

I think anywhere in the blue seats are best, if you can swing the cost.  The experience is so much better than sitting in maize seats above.  Of course now that it's the Big Ten season, prices are not going to be cheap for any of the games.

01/08/2019 - 6:02pm I'd rather see Hill…

I'd rather see Hill returning kicks.  Thomas was not so good in that area.

01/08/2019 - 5:59pm Agree.   Mr. Rogers needs to…

Agree.   Mr. Rogers needs to adjust his expectations if he's interested in attending a top tier program like Michigan and the other ones on his list.  Being confident is one thing.  But he's better off coming into one of those programs knowing there are damned good players ahead of him who are older, more experienced, and have more time in a college S&C program than he does.  On the OL especially, it's very hard to break into the starting lineup as a freshman unless the team you're on is really depleted.

01/08/2019 - 1:29pm I'd want a rugged inside…

I'd want a rugged inside rebounder and defender, who can also score.  Loy Vaught comes to mind, or of course Webber or Tarpley.  Michigan has been torched in many games this year by athletic, inside players who are too quick and jump too high for Teske/Davis.

You might want to run that last sentence through a grammar checker.

01/07/2019 - 8:54pm Ha ha ha.  I was really…

Ha ha ha.  I was really hoping for f-ing O'Neill too.  A meteor or huge sinkhole swalliwing up both sidelines would both work.

01/07/2019 - 6:19pm Can you just enjoy the…

Can you just enjoy the golden era of Michigan basketball while we're still in it, and just live in the moment?  Stop this pointless wondering about something in the future none of us can control.

01/07/2019 - 3:14pm I agree this is the most…

I agree this is the most likely rationale for what just happened.  Brown wanted to make a change (maybe as one condition for him staying here) and Mattison was not renewed.  I think Michigan will end up better off after this change, overall.  Getting a younger, experienced guy in the job who can recruit well is a gain.   But yeah, I don't get it either, especially from Ohio State's perspective.  The only thing that makes sense at all is their ongoing petty, small-minded desire to get us any way they can.  Spending that much money on a 70 year old coach when they have other better options seems like a stupid way to get us though.

01/07/2019 - 1:55pm Agree.  This will give…

Agree.  This will give Michigan a chance to find a new, smart, younger guy to replace him, who might be able to get our d-line to a higher level.  This year in big games when it counted, the d-line (outside of Winovich and maybe Paye) didn't get the job done.  Not nearly enough push or penetration.  (No rated X comments below please)
