Naturally since the rules don't really exist for schools like that one.

01/08/2019 - 10:58am While they feel a smidge…

While they feel a smidge high for us, the Army WTE unofficial ranking - great for them.  Always heartening to see a service academy doing well.

Blah blah blah, I'll feed the troll... have leftover cooking from holiday baking.  Guess reading comprehension is hard Pha or you'd have a better comment than some self-righteous statement with inaccuracies.

Also in a semi less serious signoff (since some in the peanut gallery crave that rather than honesty) I'd expand the word 'fan' as it is more apropos - fanatic.  'Fan' implies a more casual association.

12/30/2018 - 11:41pm Why?

It all stems back to…

Why?

It all stems back to my attending UM.  If I didn't I wouldn't care about the school or any of its programs.  I started the indoctrination as a freshman and it continues to pump in my blood to this day.  I've had glorious memories both as a student and alumna and it taints every view I have, as much as I try to maintain some semblance of objectivity in criticism.

In the end it is my alma mater and I care how it is perceived in the greater world view both in academics and athletics, as a research institution and an agent of change in society, as a cultural icon and the kaleidoscopic addition to the tapestry of life across the globe.

Maize and Blue now, Maize and Blue forever.

12/30/2018 - 3:33pm If I'm completely honest…

If I'm completely honest with myself I share this entirely.  I can almost forgive bowl losses and a lack of titles with more consistent victory against OSU.  We can shake off the bowls so long as we look back on the season and know we knocked off OSU, Sparty, and the Irish.

Preach on CW!  We luv ya!

Like others, I'm thrilled with his comment about players demanding more from themselves AND the coaches.

Can they keep him there please?  Need to get the offense out of the 19th century.

12/30/2018 - 3:21pm That'll work and is a good…

That'll work and is a good choice by both guys - they each need a little more baking in the college game to get to where they'll do better at the pro level.

12/29/2018 - 8:02pm I've got to agree with the…

I've got to agree with the Florida player - Michigan did not look prepared at all for this game - enough so that it made it hard to watch.  Every time it looked like they were getting a pulse, something shut it down.  Florida themselves only accounted for so much - Michigan did the rest.  Maybe they didn't spend enough time watching film.  Maybe Dr. Blitz didn't come up with enough schemes to overcome a very glaring issue - the lack of a good amount of defensive depth.

If anything this game showed that those sitting out for the NFL for any reason beyond a non-playable injury does have an impact.  #10 was the fastest back UM has and it showed.  Higdon was the bell cow for a power running game and the lack of him showed.  With Gary and Paye out (sitting/injury) and then more during the game - it was inevitable they'd give up a bunch of points.

Honestly doesn't surprise me.  That school has been shady for years and this just adds to the dung pile down there.

12/21/2018 - 6:43pm Hm.  Okay.  Mr "Weather"…

Hm.  Okay.  Mr "Weather" chooses TN.

Seems he really wants to be on the line (where he'd play at TN) instead of, like, everywhere (at MI).

12/19/2018 - 12:51pm Pretty much as expected. …

Pretty much as expected.  Needed to beat that team in Nov to land him.

12/19/2018 - 10:43am Definitely going to miss…

Definitely going to miss that guy - he's a hell of a sideline-to-sideline player that has a ton of talent.

Thanks for everything you've done to make the D as good as it was!

12/18/2018 - 10:28am This is pretty much my…

This is pretty much my sentiment too after reading everything to this point.

Transferring because they fall in the depth chart because of some injury is a snowflake's reaction.  They're not supporting their teammates who apparently improved enough to take their slot which is the antithesis of "The Team, The Team, The Team".  Buy into that philosophy or get off the team and make room for someone who will and is willing to put in the effort.  The quality players will fight for their slot and establish a clear enough separation that when they come back from injury they pick up where they left off, i.e. what Harbaugh preaches about - a meritocracy.

Quoth Bruce:

Do bees be?  Do bears bear?

12/13/2018 - 12:14pm Oh we'll complain about the…

Oh we'll complain about the increased cost and mourn the loss of being able to deduct the PSD (now C) but we'll still shove the benjamins across the table and attend the games.

At some point though the thrill of the experience (even after all this time going) will get outweighed by continued price increases that are in excess of wage increases and two tickets in a blue area will be open for the first time in nearly a generation.

I guess in the end it'll come down to whether the angst about not being there subsides.

12/06/2018 - 3:59pm No...  but it's close.  :)

No...  but it's close.  :)

The football NC - I'd be at the game.  The basketball NC - I'd be watching from afar.  As such the feels are a bit stronger.

At least with basketball I'm not bemoaning insufferable repeated losses and I can rise and fall with the team.  FB, objectivity flies out the window regularly.

12/04/2018 - 10:37am This was my first reaction…

This was my first reaction to hearing the news too.  Good for him if he's doing this to really take care of his health.  Sucks for us to not mangle that UM-OSU record for him.

Happy Thanksgiving!  Hope it is everything you're hoping for!

11/20/2018 - 10:32pm This is what I'd plan to do…

This is what I'd plan to do if/when I go to a game there.  Fly under the radar - the best approach if you're concerned about it.

11/20/2018 - 11:13am Totally in favor of this…

Totally in favor of this approach.  Take the hot hand for the ones that you should be converting to points and then for those that sometimes can be more tossups go with the foot that has proven he can do it.  It also helps to try and keep Jake a little more rested as he needs to boom kickoffs out of the end zone.  We don't want them getting return yardage.

Hopefully Quinn will have taken the time to work out the kinks in his head while fighting whatever illness he had.

11/19/2018 - 4:31pm In digging into the MSU…

In digging into the MSU comparisons...  sprinkle in that all of that bonus field position that OSU enjoyed they won't with Michigan as Will Hart is a monster this year punting the ball.  M has a very good shot at the 40s while OSU, they'll be excelling if they get the 24 the model suggests.

11/19/2018 - 2:14pm OGL.  Karan just fed the…

OGL.  Karan just fed the troll.  He'd better walk the walk on Sat and he just put a ton of pressure on the O-line.

11/18/2018 - 9:09pm Totally against eliminating…

Totally against eliminating the kickoff return.  What happened to Edwards was a pure dirty play by an overly-aggressive player.  Disincentivise that kind of play with a stronger targeting penalty for obviously egregious incidents - none of this "oh you lose a game", no - make it three on an obvious one with an increasing scale of punishment.  That should help push the coaches to truly enforce to their players that they need to keep their wits about them.

There is already a rule in place that can make returns irrelevant.  It is up to teams and players to employ it and some do, some don't.  By eliminating the return you also eliminate the quick start, the rapid response score, the ability for a team to get itself into position to potentially win a game with a tight game clock.  That will change the course of some games completely.
So what to do?  Maybe adjust the equipment that players wear on the kickoff return.  Maybe go with what the pros do where the kicking team can't get a running start.  There is an answer beyond just "no more kickoff returns".

Oh and for onside kicks, those rarely have significant injury - leave those be, but use the same adjustments.

11/17/2018 - 10:55pm Right with you on this.  He…

Right with you on this.  He'll hype OSU's re-emergent offense and MI's D having issues to support his pick.

I'd also expect Corso to wax nostalgic about putting on the nut head and do it again.

11/17/2018 - 8:50pm Great to hear.  Love that MI…

Great to hear.  Love that MI Stadium also has the equipment and setup to be able to make early diagnoses rather than having to scramble to find someplace that does.

11/17/2018 - 8:46pm Puzzling.

Brown:  First…

Puzzling.

Brown:  First time I've seen him outguessed on the regular.  Putting in zone?  Hopefully there was a driver for it because it was a baaaad decision every time.

Harbaugh:  Big ups for him putting in Jake for FG duty.

Pep:  All of the ultra conservative calls.  Ugh.  That 'body blow' poodoo spewed by the announcers only works when you're actually making them pursue you after awhile.  Big guys running tire faster than big guys not running.

Tom Allen:  Should have a brick thrown at him.  Fosters extremely dirty play.  Should kick that player who leveled Edwards off the team, but he won't.  Announcers kept whitewashing it saying it was the result of the kickoff coverage.  Way way way way wrong.  What that player did was so NOT part of kickoff coverage and was all dirty intentional play.

Mike Hart:  Coached his guys up well.

11/17/2018 - 8:36pm Bright spot for the O - Jake…

Bright spot for the O - Jake x 6.  That's about all that can be mustered up - way too many times settling for 3s.  Thankfully later in the game Shea was like 'F this' and tried to push the ball on his own.

11/17/2018 - 8:33pm Uninspired game by the D…

Uninspired game by the D that between the refs blowing major calls and the repulsively dirty play by IU nearly cost the game.

Not much to be happy about tonight beyond the W for the D.  They played stronger in the second half but yuck.

11/17/2018 - 8:29pm Pretty ugly loss for Nova -…

Pretty ugly loss for Nova - can't do any sort of spin on this and it makes you wonder just how depleted/young they are.  We may need to wait until the NoCar game to get the real measure of Coach B's guys.

11/17/2018 - 5:40pm The vaunted defense…

The vaunted defense certainly looks uninspired today.  They're being dismantled on by IU of all teams.  Sure they have a tendency to cause UM fits but a lot of that is not taking them seriously.  Definitely agree with Mack Brown that both UM and OSU were caught looking ahead.

11/16/2018 - 3:10pm After reading the source it…

After reading the source it did bring up something I hadn't thought about - with Tua and Fromm both likely going to the draft next year, any QBs wanting the limelight are going to have to absolutely shine. So if Haskins does want a shot at the pros - this is the year even with their season being bumpier than expected.

This may be, unfortunately, Shea's best window.  On the upside, DMc is the real deal so provided his collarbone heals up properly and not like Wilton's where it impacted his mechanics, we'll be fine.

If it were up to GeorgiaBoy he'd have his alma mater and Bama playing for the CFP title tomorrow.

Expected this with the SEC love and Georgia beating a better team than Rutger.

11/11/2018 - 12:14pm Boooooooooo.

Was really…

Boooooooooo.

Was really hoping it'd be a noon game.  Now have to repack the grill and prepare for an extra 7 or 8 hours of 'being' in temps ranging from the 20s to the mid 30s and feeling like it is 15 all day long.

I love MI football and tailgating but that is testing our limits of endurance.  Going to be a 4-panel day with a portable heater and plenty of propane, that's for sure.  Question is what will the parking be like considering we still have snow on everywhere that isn't paved.

That was pretty neat - loved getting that perspective.  LOLed at him asking the zebra if they could 'do that'.  Thanks for posting!

Completely.  Enough that I'd actually looked at ticket prices.

11/05/2018 - 12:27pm From a purely selfish…

From a purely selfish perspective I'm hoping this lands at noon.  Pulled the grill out of the tailgate kit as we usually do for the last home game and I'd rather not have to rearrange the prepack.

It was very cool to see his reaction to the cheering from the masses.  You could tell he was moved by it.

Something that surprises me in that video is just how short Harbaugh is next to CWebb.  Figure there would be some difference but wow.

11/04/2018 - 4:28pm Was thrilled to see Rashan…

Was thrilled to see Rashan out there doing his thing and causing chaos in PSU's backfield.  He's a force out there.

Mad props to his Mom who told it like it is, even with people still doubting after.

11/02/2018 - 2:46pm This is what I'd suggest. …

This is what I'd suggest.  Have an ear bud in one ear for the stream and you can watch the cousin's game in-person.

11/02/2018 - 2:43pm The people who are still…

The people who are still irked with CWebb need to just grow up.  He made a bad decision while young and was seduced by the evil that was Ed Martin.  His time out call against NC is more egregious but without him they wouldn't have been in that game.

I was, and still am, very proud of what that crew did while at UM, including the NC game where they came so close to winning it.  Will definitely be one of (hopefully) thousands cheering when he's introduced.

This +++.  I've seen the golf courses close but this is the first time I can remember where all three were like this.  Tomorrow's going to be an experience, that's for sure.

Saw this earlier today - totally dug the editorial and agree with a large chunk of it.

10/30/2018 - 11:14pm What I'd personally like to…

What I'd personally like to see:
 - LSU absolutely mangle Bama because they have an off-night and Tua throws like four picks including a pick-6.  Basically the wheels coming off their train as opposed to LSU influencing it.
 - NW taking out ND.  THWND.
 - Kentucky squeaking by Georgia in like four OTs with a controversial call deciding it.
 - Then the cherry on top...  Texas Tech remembers who they used to be and takes down Oklahoma.

Yeah, very tall order.  One can dream.  :)
(OSU/Neb...  the Huskers are doomed - the Buckeyes had two weeks to stew over that loss, never a good sign for the next opponent)

10/30/2018 - 11:07pm I think his six helmets are…

I think his six helmets are arranged by the top six in the AP poll.  They've changed from time to time and seem to align with that.  What surprised me is that he even has a Michigan helmet.

Wonder if he'll change which poll he goes by for the next remote feed.

10/30/2018 - 7:35pm Noticed that too - don't…

Noticed that too - don't really get it.  They're not that great.

10/30/2018 - 7:34pm Pretty much according to…

Pretty much according to script.  Real question is what happens in Baton Rouge on Sat.  Mich does lots of tcb on Sat, then things get really interesting.

Bama rolls the Tigers, M moves to 4.  LSU wins, chaos ensues.

10/30/2018 - 11:55am I think there's an…

I think there's an intangible that the model really can't compensate for - there isn't a way to include it.  Don Brown has been mindful of this game for a very long time.  Give him a year to think of ways to beat you and then give him current tape and he'll find a way to scheme and defeat your team.

Yes, the D may not have Gary (honestly I'd rest him until the Indiana game and get him in a series or two there and then sit him for the rest so he's nice and fresh for OSU) but others have come on very strong from their 2017 counterparts.  Another item that can't really be included is that the playbook is opening up as we progress through the season.  I'd expect a few new goodies to show up against PSU that weren't used all year.

The practicality of that approach is debatable.  I can see both good and bad in it.  In the end so long as it translates to wins, by all means keep on keeping on.

It was noted in the discussion about how modeling in a home-field advantage would take more elaborate algorithms so that said can't really see much fault with the pure math view.  Things such as emotion and extra motivation are difficult to quantify without adding in some arbitrary figure.  That said, M wins and the tour continues right through to OSU.
