Is this your self-imposed penance for saying it was time to talk about KBA’s hot seat when we were behind?

Is it now time to stop talking about KBA’s hot seat?

I gave up soda. My substitutional beverage is beer. I’ve lost 18 pounds in 2 months.

We did have 5 consecutive days of rain and we needed it. But it was that bad type of rain that’s combined with strong winds that blow your umbrella all over the place. Lots of standing water leading to wet socks. There’s nothing worse in the world than wet socks.

I’m playing badminton today in 75 degree weather. I’d really rather be sitting in front of a nice fire, snuggling with my wife, and enjoying a hot chocolate. Instead, I’m sweating like a southern Californian in winter.

01/19/2019 - 5:14pm It’s a really sad state of…

It’s a really sad state of affairs when a team such as Wisconsin has to flop their way to victory. If I was refereeing their games, I would be doling out unsportsmanlike conduct penalties left and right. Their flopping definitely constitutes “intent to deceive,” but more than that, it signals to the audience that they don’t feel they can win playing straight up, Mano-y-mano. They are cowards and cheaters and chicken-shits. When there is contact to your mid-section and I can see you throw your head and shoulders back, that’s not contact that Michigan initiated. It’s flopping around like a fish out of water. The Wisconsin basketball program should be ashamed and embarrassed by that piss-poor display today. Whatever happened to “sportsmanship” and playing with dignity and class?

For a father hoping his non-athletic son can get a scholarship, this is wonderful news.

I think the alternate title for this post should be, “Friday Recruiting is Romphf.” Could be the greatest John Madden name ever.

01/17/2019 - 9:11pm I don’t watch regular season…

I don’t watch regular season NBA games. I don’t think that the games are meaningful enough. There’ll be a game where it’s hard to understand why one team is playing so poorly until you find out they are on the second night of a back-to-back or are finishing a 7 game road trip. I find playoff basketball much more interesting, but then I live on the West coast and get to watch good teams play.

If you think that’s why USAG fired her I have a bridge to sell you.

Bo wore the skinny block M. That’s good enough for me.

Lloyd’s second biggest mistake (after not going with Brady full-time in ‘99) was wearing a fat M hat.

I would like to see meta topics properly labeled as meta topics.

Brian made a comment about Z's hook shot not being a shot at the rim. My initial reaction to that was, yes it very much is a shot at the rim. It's just a layup from a different angle. But I watched the NU game and paid attention to where his feet are when he leaves the ground. On one hook shot, his feet were outside the free throw lane and he was fading away from the basket. That definitely was not a shot at the rim, so I think you've got to take it on a shot-by-shot basis.

Great, so now the coaches can drop Duke all the way down to #3 and keep us at #4 next week. Seriously, fuck Duke, that weasel Coach K, and the coaches’ poll.

01/14/2019 - 12:17am I just got finished reading…

I just got finished reading her congressional testimony that Brian linked to on Twitter. It seems to me she has a strong case for unlawful termination against USAG. In my line of work, we are reminded about the Whistle-blower act that states you can’t be retaliated against by your employer for reporting fraud or abuse. It appears to me that she did the right thing, only not quickly enough for the mob who doesn’t care about the facts.

She should be thanked for being part of the effort that exposed Nassar and eventually got him convicted. Instead, the hypocrites here are blasting her hire because of the “bad optics” for the University. I am sorry but considering how this affects the university’s reputation is exactly the kind of thinking that led MSU to do the wrong thing over and over again.

What are the facts? Judge her case on the facts, not on the opinions of the uninformed.

I like that idea better than meeting a yard behind the QB

01/12/2019 - 5:09pm Did she cover up for the guy…

Did she cover up for the guy, pressure the victims not to come forward, try to influence the police to bury the story (a la Urban and ZS?) I’m not as familiar with that story, but I take it the guy was fired.

For your sake, I hope you don’t have to bear the sins of all the employees you hire.

01/12/2019 - 4:40pm So maybe hiring someone who…

So maybe hiring someone who showed moral courage by REPORTING THE ASSHOLE TO THE FBI is exactly what the program needs.

Bev made this hire. Warde is backing her when the easy thing to do would have been to not approve the hiring and avoid the public outcry from UofM fans that are worried the Spartans in their lives are going to give them shit about this. Reporting something 5 days late is not the same AT ALL as allowing Nassar free reign for decades.

01/12/2019 - 4:30pm Maybe she likes the fact…

Maybe she likes the fact that UofM hired a person who reported the allegation to her superior and then followed through by reporting Nassar to the FBI. Her “crime” is reporting the allegation one week after hearing about it instead of 24-48 hours. Considering how long Simon and MSU tried to cover this shit up, I am willing to forgive this lady for 5 extra days.

01/12/2019 - 4:25pm I hope all you folks…

I hope all you folks commenting from your high horses realize you are besmirching the reputation of Bev Plocki, the coach who hired this person. In her 29 years as head coach, I’ve never heard a negative comment about her. But I guess I’ll take Joe Internet’s opinion over Bev’s.

01/12/2019 - 11:06am The locked thread says she…

The locked thread says she failed to inform. That is factually inaccurate and should be reason enough for that thread to be deleted. Or that thread should have been edited to state that she failed to inform the FBI within a week of being told about Nassar.

Read the article.

01/12/2019 - 11:01am Am I wrong about you, though…

Am I wrong about you, though? Your inability to forgive Yost and your rush to judgment in this case suggest a pattern. Were you involved in the hiring decision? Do you have all the facts? I’m guessing no, but it makes you feel morally superior to condemn this woman nevertheless.

01/12/2019 - 10:52am Please everyone read the…

Please everyone read the article before commenting.

The Daily posted the article at 1:39AM on a Saturday. That alone raises questions (about the Athletic Department, not the Daily. I assume they ran with the story when they got it.) The University knows the optics are bad and tried to bury the story.

However, the article states she told her boss and within a week they told the FBI. She was only with USGA for a couple years. She was not turning a blind eye to Nassar for a couple decades like others involved in this.

I know the first impulse is to be holier than thow, like Bando, but how about we make room for the fact that life is complicated, people sometimes make the right decision but it takes them a little time to get there.

It’s not like she covered for Zach Smith for a decade or Nassar for 2 or Sandusky for 3, or Catholic priests for a Millennium or 2. They went to the FBI within a week.

He actually had her as a 67% favorite. Do me a favor. Roll a 6 sided die and tell me how many times a 1 or 2 appears. It’s shocking.

Football has evolved since Woody Hayes made that statement. Now, 5 things can happen and 4 of them are bad (sack, inc, int, holding penalty.)

I’m rooting for an AFC championship game featuring the Colts at the Chargers. I want the national audience to be exposed to the farce that is the Chargers playing in a ~35k seat soccer stadium. Also, my son’s rock band played a few songs during a Charger pre-game earlier this year. He got to meet some of their cheerleaders and pose with them for some photos. I know if that happened to me when I was 14, I never would have recovered from that.

Dude, the team WAS high for the horror. That’s the only way that game makes sense. It also explains most of the early exits in the NCAA tournament during the Frieder era.

HBO should be finishing up a Sopranos marathon with season 7 today. If only that show had dragons, it would be the greatest TV show ever.

My brother attends Michigan football and women’s basketball games. The difference in attendance may have something to do with why 28 teams feel the need for outreach to the fan base.

01/09/2019 - 11:56am Prior to the championship…

Prior to the championship game, Shea had a better passer efficiency rating than Lawrence.

If Turner stays in bounds, Shea hits Eubanks up the seam, and Black holds onto the ball in the endzone, we're all not as pissy today. (And if our defense hadn't come apart at the seams...)

Title IX remains the source of all that’s wrong with society, per Section 1.8. What an odd boogeyman to obsess over.

01/08/2019 - 2:15pm Oh, but he is wrong. If we…

Oh, but he is wrong. If we go tempo against ND, Runyan gives up 9 hurries instead of 6, or whatever the number was. If we go tempo against OSU, they beat us by 34 instead of 23. We passed more against Florida than we ran. Going tempo doesn’t magically make Turner’s foot stay in bounds or improve Shea’s accuracy.

01/08/2019 - 1:49pm The fumbled kickoff to start…

The fumbled kickoff to start the second half against Iowa was equally as bad. That gave them hope that they could win the game and they played their best for the whole 2nd half.

DPJ had 8 receptions in the Peach Bowl. Nico had 80 yards receiving. Projected over a full season, that would make him a 1000-yard receiver.

These hawt takes are so divorced from reality.

Simpson is really good defensively, but Grant was on another level. Z gives up about 5 inches to Grant. In the WMU game, they had a bigger, taller PG who could shoot over Z. That wouldn’t have happened against the General.

He wasn’t out there for defense, either. I still don’t know why he was out there.

Jarrod Bunch is high on my list. He was a first round NFL draft pick as a fullback.

Tom Brady is the only player that I have Michigan home and away and NFL jerseys for. With his NFL  career, he confirmed to me that I know more about football than Lloyd Carr. So I appreciate him for that.
