The change was already noted so you're all set.

Kashama played for the Bears too. Also he was just 6'4", from the Congo via a Toronto suburb, and was only a few days older than me.

Ironic you used him as the comp because Kashama got stuck behind 6'8" Pat Massey and we all remember how that went.

Huh? I gave credit for that run to Fritz, at fullback, not Billy. Billy Taylor just ran the ball but Seyferth edged a cornerback and made the perfect block. That's Seyferth's play, and his drive too. It was he who made the critical 4th and 1 conversion.

07/11/2018 - 3:13pm Watch Omameh on that play.

Watch Omameh on that play. He picks up Manti Te'o in and space and deposits him in the lap of a safety. And stop nitpicking at my clever ruse to include more Denard or else you'll get less Denard.

07/03/2018 - 3:01pm Was it their generation or…

Was it their generation or conservative fiscal policy that created runaway debt under the guise of low interest rates on homes and school? Was it the Baby Boomers who got together and said let's do this as baby boomers or was it the financial industry getting together to dominate politics for the good of the financial industry? I'm not arguing about the current state of things. I'm saying we can be a lot more precise on how to place blame, and more importantly, solve the problems.

07/03/2018 - 8:27am This stupid conversation…

This stupid conversation could have been painted on the side of a cave because every generation thinks the one before them created all the world's problems and all the kids these days are entitled and whiny with no concept of the hardships will never have to live through. Young adults rightfully resent the unfair burdens their parents left them and the elderly rightfully resent being resented for cultural issues and systems that they personally did little to contribute to and might have even fought against.

Thankfully while my dad was alive I didn't waste any of that time hating him for being born 30 years before me. I will do my best as long as I am still smelling the flowers and blowing out candles not to hate my children for being born 30 years after me. He lost a good 15 years of a relationship with his father over whether dodging the draft and listening to Simon and Garfunkel was righteous or unpatriotic.

You can hate on every advantaged class who voted for Trump out of fear of losing what they have (and rather feel they have earned). Or you can look at why this is: cowardice is baked into our genes, and takes an enormous amount of education and willpower to overcome, especially for those who don't have a personal stake in it.

I was in the room wrote the questions and wrote the order of the questions and the topic that I am most interested in got one sentence at the end. Brian cares a lot about prop a and the housing crisis, and Ace for obvious reasons cares a lot about Healthcare, and Abdul was the Detroit City Health Commissioner and a former medical professor, and a doctor and the Flint Water Crisis is I'm sure we agree a major issue for the state. We had very limited time went over by 15 minutes and could have spoken for hours without getting to all the issues in Michigan.

1. Shortcuts are a thing coming in the future. Was in a beta version of the site but had so many bugs we took it out and then feature lock happened. If we can revisit it you'll be able to quickly collapse a section (features, diaries, board) to get to what you want to.

2. It'll look better when we (go to 6.)

3. Active message boarders say this all the time. Most readers don't mind and we want to encourage readers to contribute more to the diaries, not shuffle that away. Longform content is the lifeblood of this site.

4. I agree. We're using what works right now.

5. I'll try to keep those updated.

6. Background is high on the list of things. It's going to be a light gray with a titch of blue off the UM color palette.

06/27/2018 - 9:32pm As I learned with this…

As I learned with this process, being "involved" with development is both necessary and a full-time job. There's a LOT that goes into it, and we were lucky enough to have professionals who use the blog regularly and knew what we wanted. I've developed apps before and when you're dealing with the kind of traffic (and the attacks it generates) and all the extra security a site like ours has to have it's not a small project

06/27/2018 - 9:29pm Traffic has gone up a titch…

Traffic has gone up a titch since we launched the new site, and way up this week with the Hello's. The apps weren't making money so their value to us is in that our readers like them and we like our readers. I ask you be patient as work the problems that appeared after launch and then get to the other things we want to build.

I REALLLLY want to get the digi editions out to the backers by the 4th.

06/27/2018 - 8:58am It's more about time. We…

It's more about time. We need to be part of that and we are focused on getting this site to work first.

I'm going to look into an option though to put the board on a very simple API. Basically just link you to a version of the site for mobile that goes right to the board.

FYI I don't miss the apps. They made us no money and because they were designed to be good apps instead of to work with the site they were a massive hog on our site's resources. Everyone got a slower MGoBlog because the apps were constantly pinging the site for updates, and we had to spend time and money putting protections in place like Cloudflare so that wouldn't swarm us when a lot of people wanted to get on.

2. It's about Michigan's first football coach.

06/25/2018 - 2:54pm I wouldn't say "out of…

I wouldn't say "out of necessity" but yeah, I think he's a 4-star cornerback and the sites dropped him because he was moved to free safety where he doesn't get to show his cornerback skills, while other cornerbacks have been doing so.

Gwinnett moved him to free safety because he's the best player in the secondary and that's the most important position in the secondary when playing spread teams.

06/20/2018 - 3:48pm Dude, straw man.
Crowell…

Dude, straw man.

Crowell does seem to have an itchy trigger when it comes to getting mad at Michigan. That high school coaches have preferences between state schools is hardly conspiracy. It's equally silly to imagine where your coach wants you to play is the only factor in where you play. Jermain Crowell could dislike Michigan. Crowell could try to sway players toward Michigan State. Crowell could still see plenty of his players go to Michigan, especially since it's so close to Ann Arbor. These things aren't mutually exclusive.

He used to work for Thomas Wilcher, and they maintain a strong relationship, but there's little doubt Wilcher likes to see his players go to Michigan, and many do, and some don't. You can want what is best for your players and be biased toward thinking what's best for them is to go to your school. It's okay. It happens. It's totally normal. Stop making a thing out of it.

06/20/2018 - 12:22pm I was going to do an all-Bo…

I was going to do an all-Bo team and was thinking about an all-Lloyd team, but that would screw us out of Moeller guys. And all-Moeller team is doable, but it's also basically saying "The 1991 team." Brian actually wrote an "of the decade" team at the end of the 2000s.

So what I've got outlined--and these are subject to change--for the rest of the offseason are:

  • All-Bo
  • All-'90s
  • All-Hype (busts and guys who get a ton of spring hype that amounts to nothing)
  • All-Name
  • All-Walk-On
  • All-Highlight (still deciding if it should be guy with the best highlight video or guy with the single greatest play we can find)
  • All-Tiny (best players from bottom 25% of ht/wt for their positions)
  • All-Huge (best players in top 25% of ht/wt for their positions)
06/20/2018 - 12:11pm I remember those…

I remember those recruitments well too but I'm going off of data from the extant recruiting rankers of the time. Rankings were nowhere near as precise as they are today, especially national ones, and the further back I go the more wobble there is in them. Also you'll note a lot of these guys came from the 3-/4-star borderline, because I already set the bar so low that MIKE HART was not eligible as a "3 star" under my criteria.

Rankings aren't a perfect method, but raw numbers are useful here when I've got a lot of guys to consider and "Was this guy highly sought after" is a moving target. There are lots of reasons for players to end up 3-stars: They're scouted late, play for smaller schools, have a hard ceiling, would have to completely reshape their bodies, etc. etc.

Tom Brady is a good example. He was no hidden gem, correct. He played at a huge school and was known nationally. But you are incorrect about the second bit: Michigan didn't "beat USC and UCLA for him." He would have gone to USC but USC got a commitment from their 5-star target, Quincy Woods, and for their second QB they were deciding between Brady and local 4-star John Fox, and while their OC (Mike Riley!) preferred Brady, and despite the fact that John Robinson was, like Tom Brady, a Serra alum, Robinson overruled Riley and took Fox. As for UCLA they took a commitment early (for those days) from Cade McKnown (and already had Ryan Fien and Rob Walker on campus) while Brady was waiting on USC, so UCLA was mostly out of the running by the time Brady was open to it, and Stanford already had commitments from two guys ranked right around Brady, and Michigan had already gotten Tom on campus for a visit. You can call that a 4-star or a 3-star. It was about where Malzone was.

I mentioned Winovich specifically was a stretch though so I could leave Frank Clark off.

06/19/2018 - 11:42pm I have to stick up for Gary…

I have to stick up for Gary because he was RAMPANT last year but the guys he chased just tended to end up in someone else's arms. And that's not a knock on Steele. I gave the 5-stars that point because they can rotate Gary AND Brandon Graham, two of the best to ever play the position here.
