While I appreciate your position, you're conflating weather with climate.  The two are related but not the same thing.  When you cite extreme weather events as proof that climate change is real you're making the same type of fallacious argument as Donald Trump does when he denies climate change is a problem because it still snows in New York City.

Funny thing about Urkel was that he was a peripheral character in the first season, but as time went on they built the whole show around him.

02/06/2019 - 11:55am I don't begrudge Hoke taking…

I don't begrudge Hoke taking the Michigan job.  Any head coach with a modicum of ambition would've taken the Michigan job had it been offered to him.  I also don't begrudge Hoke for failing at his job.  Many coaches have come to Michigan and failed.  I do begrudge Hoke for letting Michigan football turn into the clownshow that it did on his watch; a stench that we're still working to rinse off.  Many on here, myself included, have laid the majority of that blame at the feet of Brandon, and rightfully so, but Hoke let it happen.

He didn't have to go along with Brandon sitting in on film sessions or trotting out the bullshit press releases on concussions, but he did.  Whether he believed that was the price for getting to be Michigan Head Coach, or because he didn't have the strength of character to push back, or just didn't see anything wrong with it, that's all on him.  That's the reason I don't find him a sympathetic character in this.

02/06/2019 - 9:38am There's absolutely zero…

There's absolutely zero reason to feel bad for Hoke.  It's one thing to find yourself over your head in a job; it's another to allow yourself to be a sidekick to an egostical asshole of an Athletic Director.  Any bruises to Brady Hoke's pride are of his own doing.

Despite the fact that Izzo has been exposed in recent years as a morally bankrupt weasel, Sparty could take solace in the fact that he won games.

Now they don't even have the winning.  What a grim, sad place East Lansing must be these days.

02/05/2019 - 12:33pm Looking at the teams still…

Looking at the teams still in the hunt for the conference title, Michigan's path is the toughest, although Maryland's is a close 2nd in difficulty.  Meanwhile, we debate which team between us and MSU is going to come out on top and Purdue is just sitting there tied with both of us and with only one ranked opponent left on their schedule.

Tied for first:

Michigan - 4 of 9 games at home.  Ranked opponents - Maryland (2), MSU (2), and Wisconsin

MSU - 5 of 9 games at home.  Ranked opponents - Michigan (2), Wisconsin

Purdue - 4 of 9 games at home.  Ranked opponents - Maryland

One game back:

Wisconsin - 4 of 9 games at home.  Ranked opponents - Michigan, MSU, Iowa

Two games back:

Maryland - 4 of 9 games at home.  Ranked opponents - Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan (2), Iowa

Regardless, we run the gauntlet of these last 5 weeks with only another loss or even two and we may earn our one seed back.

01/30/2019 - 11:46am One of the best stories…

One of the best stories about Presidents throwing out the first pitch was W talking with Derrick Jeter before throwing out the first pitch in Game 3 of the 2001 World Series.  Jeter asks George if he thinks he'll throw from the rubber or the front of the mound.  Bush says he thinks he'll throw from the front of mound.  Jeter tells Bush that he's thinks that's a mistake and he's liable to get booed, so Bush reconsiders and agrees to throw from the rubber.  Jeter turns to walk out to the field, takes a few steps, turns back around and tells Bush, "Don't bounce it, they'll boo ya", then turns and walks out to the field.

Even better was the endless whining on the Eleven Warriors Open Thread about the multitude of non-calls by the refs...because the refs are completely in the bag for Michigan, don't you know?

01/30/2019 - 11:16am I don't have a problem with…

I don't have a problem with setting the bar at winning a conference title as long as the bar isn't some absolute standard that must be met or it's "Fire Harbaugh".  If that's the standard absent any sort of context, then I will take issue with it.  I also think that if that's the position that people want to take, win in Year 5 or Jim should be gone, then those people need to come with the bigger, better plan as part of that take.

If, in 2019, we finish 10-2 again and miss the B1G Championship because of another loss to OSU are we really all going to advocate getting rid of Harbaugh, despite the fact that he's rebuilt us back into the clear 2nd best program in the conference?  Just seems short-sighted in my opinion.

01/30/2019 - 7:31am Now that Meyer has retired,…

Now that Meyer has retired, I don't see any reason why Michigan fans should not expect a B1G title in Harbaugh's 5th year.

There are plenty of reasons why Michigan could not win a B1G title in Harbaugh's 5th year, unfortunately.  We have depth issues on both the O-Line and D-Line and offensive line performance, while improved in 2018 is still not performing at an elite level.  Who's going to take over for Devin Bush?  Who's going to take over for Karan Higdon?  Will we get better secondary play?  Is Gattis going to give the offense a Don Brownesque jolt?  Is Ryan Day going to turn into John Cooper 2.0 or is he actually an upgrade from Urban Meyer?  Can Patterson stay healthy?  There are a myriad of questions and oh yeah, Michigan's schedule is, once again, brutal.

Michigan is certainly a contender going into 2019, but I wince at comments that seem to couch the season in an all-or-nothing framework, because while Michigan will be good, I'm not convinced this team will be better than what we had in 2018.

I think it's the same "fans" who seem committed to pushing the idea that Jim Harbaugh hasn't made Michigan better as a program in the 4 years since he took over.

01/28/2019 - 11:16am First, I never referred to…

First, I never referred to Hart as a "loser", so I'll thank you not to put words in my mouth.  Second, four of the five players you mentioned that have more yards than Hart in college won the Heisman trophy and three of them played in an era where the only reason they probably played through their senior year is because the NFL didn't draft underclassmen (Walker circumvented this by signing with the USFL after his Junior year); so I really don't know what point you think you're making.

01/28/2019 - 7:56am Coaching and playing are two…

Coaching and playing are two different things.

I'll go further by saying that if people's perception to Hart's credibility as a coach is his playing career at Michigan, then that is the definition of specious reasoning.  Being the career rushing leader at Michigan is a laudable achievement but it belies his limitations as a player.  Elite level college players never stay in college long enough to set career records.

01/22/2019 - 1:39pm I guess I don't think it's…

I guess I don't think it's funny, it's a meaningless statistic.  Tomorrow it will be 723 days and the day after it will be 724 and what can the Spartans do about it?  Nothing because we don't play for another couple of weeks.  Creating meaningless taunts belie an insecurity toward the person or group you're taunting.  I'm used to that kind of shit coming from Spartan fans because they are insecure and small and petty.  I just think we have no reason to doubt our place next to them and that lowering ourselves to their level is beneath us; and yes, I realize that this is pretentious and arrogant and embodies all the things that Spartan fans hate about Michigan fans.  I don't care.  If that attitude grates on the average Spartan fan...good.  Fuck them.

01/22/2019 - 11:24am Michigan is superior to…

Michigan is superior to Michigan State in every meaningful way.  I don't need a winning streak fabricated from arbitrarily selected sports to validate that fact.  It was stupid when Sparty did it years ago and it's stupid to suggest we celebrate a similar milestone now.
