12/24/2018 - 2:41pm My vote would be Michigan…

My vote would be Michigan also, but when our daughter was accepted we told her she should go where she wanted.  (I'll be honest: I did a terrible job of being "unbiased" in that process).  It's kind of a deal I made with God when these kids came into the world: You do all you can to get them through the best school they can get into, and that they like.

I can't speak to Princeton, however our daughter really liked Northwestern but once she was accepted at Michigan she went blue and never looked back.  Northwestern's a great school, of course, but for a hard sciences major the research going on at Michigan is a compelling argument. I think she also just fell in love with the University and with Ann Arbor.

She liked Northwestern's excellence-in-a-smaller-package approach but ultimately she found ways to make Michigan smaller and I think overall it was a better educational experience for her.  If you ask her, she'll tell you there wasn't a single day there that she regretted the decision.

Yes. And my daughter (recent grad) and wife do too. It's second to football in our family.

11/24/2018 - 12:04am XM, your best ever.

XM, your best ever.

Go blue.  Victory tomorrow.

11/23/2018 - 11:47pm Will do, Harmon. I'll see…

Will do, Harmon. I'll see him in a month or so and will pass this along.  Thanks for the kind words.

My dad is 95 and flew 30 combat missions in 1944 and 1945.  He will be cheering for a Michigan victory tomorrow.

He's a little old for the blog thing, but if if he read this one, I know he'd more than approve of this clever take on Ike's iconic words.

Go blue.

11/23/2018 - 12:59am I was there; it was my…

I was there; it was my MgoDaughter's graduation.

Yes, chills.  Guy is the greatest I've seen play for us.  And I think he's prescient.

10/25/2018 - 10:17pm Xtra, great thread. And been…

Xtra, great thread. And been a while.

The bride (or "broad," if you're a despondent tOSU fan who considers mini golf as a great evening out) has a strict "one sport per day" policy, so we'll watch hockey.

Nice thing about your kid joining the Michigan alumni family is that she finds ways to make the place her own. So she'll be tuning in the game for us. She's way more of a hockey fan than my wife and I were, and it's been fun

Might be a brisket or ribs on though during the Purdue/Staee game, which I may watch downstairs. I did my masters at Purdue, so last Sat was pretty great.

10/14/2018 - 2:33pm I was there.

I've been to…

I was there.

I've been to upward of a hundred Michigan games, going back to Michigan/Wiscy in 1977. The atmosphere was electric.

That my daughter graduated from Michigan and my son is now in grad school at Wisconsin (may have to change my avatar--at least from time to time) elevated the experience, for sure.

But it was spectacular and so memorable.

09/28/2018 - 8:24pm I'd say 17-7 or something…

I'd say 17-7 or something like that, but I've had so many non-M fans say how dominant we were last week that I'm pretty bullish. 31-10.

I was at the game but I think I've become so jaded that even when I see it I'm reluctant to believe it.

One drink with an ex-coworker

If they win she gets champagne.  If we do, I get Glenlivet. We've bet this every time we've played since 2007 or so.

I do owe her a drink from the NCAA hockey championships so tomorrow might work out as double or nothing.

Two kids.  One is now a proud M grad. The other just got married a week ago and is a Badger for grad school.

I had to take a trip overseas so the weekend is featuring a lot of Fuller's London Pride and Meantime London Pale Ale. Always nice to get over here but I envy you guys back home. There's something great and uncomplicated about a little Father's Day hammock time with a brisket or pork shoulder on the smoker.

Colorado dry cider and the awesome recollection of the MGoDaughter's graduation and the son's wedding last weekend in Boulder.

He will be a Badger this fall but suspect deep down he will remain a Michigan Man, except when they play us.

Michigan-Wisconsin games will take on an entirely new importance, and I can't wait.

06/05/2018 - 8:05pm Colorado dry cider and…

Colorado dry cider and cheers to the new site!

05/23/2018 - 11:05pm Ollie Fretter

Ollie was my least favorite

Favorite was anything invoving Sunny Elliot.

05/19/2018 - 6:22pm Thanks Bluenin

I'll pass it along.

He doesn't get to buy many of his own beers any more. I think he's kind of mystified by it. Not that he doesn't appreciate it, but to him, he was just doing what needed to be done.

05/19/2018 - 4:57pm +1

Funniest thing I've seen this week.

05/18/2018 - 10:46pm Skylane

Cessna 182. Not quite the "Cadillac of the skies" that your dad flew. What an experience that must have been.

There's a P-51D at my home airport that is up flying often on Saturday mornings. I was fortunate enough to be in the pattern together a few weeks ago--and what an experience that was.

After I landed the Mustang did a series of low level passes while I was lugging the hose at our self-serve gas pumps. It was a drudgery of love seeing that plane overhead likely well exceed the 250-knot speed "limit."

Hoping something like that will happen for my dad this weekend.

Enjoy AK with the eldest, BTW. Suspect you've been there, but if not, it is awesome.

05/18/2018 - 9:45pm Xtra

Colorado dry cider (sourced from the now venerable1946 Frigidaire Kegerator), smoked AK sockeye (little left from last year's haul) and a nice weekend with my 94-yo dad here in CO.

He flew 30 combat missions in WWII. If wx permits, he and I will be doing a little flying. : )

05/14/2018 - 10:22pm Regensburg

Regensburg is a gem.  It was not heavily bombed during the war and retains much of its prewar architectural charm.  The cathedral is particularly worth seeing.

I think it's about an hour and a half from Munich by car.  I always drove it but I think there's also a train.

04/28/2018 - 2:22pm Woodson

This was the MGoDaughter's commencement and I thought Woodson did a nice job speaking today. He has a quiet confidence and got some good jabs in at OSU and Ohio generally ("no politics or anything, but we're going to build a big beautiful wall along our southern border with Ohio to keep those people out...oh wait, that would keep people like Desmond and me from getting out of there and coming never mind.").

My wife and I went to the Harbaugh "guarantee" game in Columbus in 1986 and just exchanged knowing looks when Woodson said we'd win. Little different when your starting QB guarantees a win than when a former player does, but he seemed to be pretty sure of it. Coming on the news of Patterson's eligibility, it was definitely a confidence builder.

03/30/2018 - 10:12pm Patton's response:

"Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results."

All due respect, Sam (not meant sarcastically), I'll take Patton.

03/25/2018 - 8:49pm Think

It’s “up to us” after this weekend. Hoped that someone would take out Loyola and we now have to be the ones to do that. Same with ND in hockey.

Like our prospects with both.

02/16/2018 - 10:00pm Go Blue!

Great win!

02/16/2018 - 9:54pm Wow

I have such PTSD (no offense to anyone who has had it, including my dad) about calls, but that was really surprising.

12/29/2017 - 8:26pm I’ll be watching

But some combination of OSU point lead + Buick/Flo/Larry the Dr Pepper guy commercials will probably cause me to tune it out. Think that sum is around 30.

12/21/2017 - 11:51pm Congrats!

Congrats.  You're all in for a great adventure.

12/10/2017 - 7:22pm “Mt Morris”

Is a nickname that has to be earned. I remember reading a press account that Lance Parrish told him to knock off the attitude because “no one likes being around you when you’re this way.” Think it was a great accomplishment by Sparky to keep that clubhouse as even keeled as it was.

Great for both of them though.

12/02/2017 - 9:15pm Larry

the Dr. Pepper guy should be shot into the sun.

11/22/2017 - 8:59pm I was there

No players or coaches were there that i could tell. Bob Ufer's son Tom spoke about his father and what it means to be a Wolverine. The group was subdued and respectful but still enthusiastically pounded dozens of buckeyes into dust on or near the three headstones.

Amazon Prime filmed much of it and said they intend to have the film produced into something they can air in January. We all signed releases so they can use our likenesses.

11/21/2017 - 5:09pm I’ll be around

With the MGoSenior and would be up for it if it’s still available.

11/11/2017 - 9:07pm Think you’ll get that

Although ND is playing like their fake girlfriend died today.

11/02/2017 - 12:01am Really happy for

Verlander and the city of Houston.  Great to see this happen.

11/01/2017 - 9:56pm Agree wholeheartedly

He's a case study in why nepotism is never a good idea

10/27/2017 - 10:03pm Xtra

That's awesome.  McGuyver meets Orville Wright.

No flying lately.  Pretty big (and great) change in job over the summer that's been a huge distraction.  Life keeps getting in the way of flying...ugh.

10/27/2017 - 9:50pm OP

Watched us lose to Ped State, so disappointment is in my glass.

That was followed by a nice cab though, so that's a win.

Tomorrow is another day.  As my daughter would say, Go Blue Forever.  These kids today have such crazy expressions.

10/19/2017 - 1:33pm Good Choice

I've had a WSM since 2003 and it's a reliable performer.  Ribs, brisket, sockeye, pork shoulder--it's really well made and has never let me down.  My wife says it's the best thing she's ever bought me.

You're probably aware of if you're already researching, but for those who haven't discovered it, it's full of great recipes, mods, and the like.

10/03/2017 - 12:06am If basketball...

will the Feds next get involved in football?  Given that the NCAA is apparently getting pushed aside for failure to govern, seems logical that football is next.

09/13/2017 - 9:45pm Wisconsin

Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.

I hate expansion. Dump the eastern schools

Ok to keep Nebraska though. They're a great addition.

08/16/2017 - 6:51pm Slingbox

is the expat sports fan's best friend.  Never missed a game in the RichRod/Hoke era.  Sigh.

08/03/2017 - 5:12pm Catch-22

That's some catch, that Catch-22.

07/30/2017 - 5:34pm Have a beer

on the patio of the Old Faithful Inn and watch the guyser erupt.  Then go inside and have another one (beer, not a guyser).

The lobby is arranged around a giant stone fireplace and the atrium goes up at least four stories.  In the evening there is a live pianist (the dead ones don't play so well) and families and couples go to the atrium to play games, catch up on the day's activities, and plan their next day. Last time I was there there was limited or no cell service, which really is a big plus.

It is a great experience and for quite a few years we had at least one family vacation up there per year.  We went back a couple years ago and again had a great time.  I'm thinking it's time to go back again.

07/06/2017 - 8:04pm Iowa 85

Was pretty brutal, too.

06/28/2017 - 10:50pm Fascinating finds

Thank you for posting.

05/28/2017 - 10:40pm Glenlivet

And now some excellent CO ice water.

Will rewatch another episode of "The Civil War" in a bit. Rewatched Gettysburg last PM.

05/26/2017 - 7:05pm Dave Brubeck

Vince Guaraldi, Miles Davis

05/21/2017 - 12:55pm Caro

Path to Power is a great read. If you haven't read any of that series, you're in for a treat. I found them all superbly written and researched.

I think no matter what one's opinion of Johnson is, reading those books will still surprise.

05/20/2017 - 9:58pm The Essential Deming

He's as relevant as ever.

Also, Catch-22--auf deutsch. Since I've read the English version so many times, I figure the German version ought to be a walk in the park.

05/19/2017 - 10:04pm Had a couple

Glenlivets. Now it's water in an Oktoberfest mug.

05/18/2017 - 8:43pm How it's done

05/15/2017 - 11:03pm Thanks Sam

Speaking for her, I'd say she wouldn't be offended at all by the characterization, though she would likely add that she just did the right thing, which is entirely in keeping with her sense of decency.

So would "go to hell," though I guess we'll have to await the time machine to know for sure.
