01/10/2019 - 10:49am I go back and forth on this…

I go back and forth on this. Bosa was a weakside end so Chase is a better comparison to him. While Gary didn't wow me the way I'd hoped he would I think we are gonna realize next season how well he held the edge. Teams either didn't run to his side or were unsuccessful when they tried. Florida was able to get the edge in his absence and think teams will be able to next year unless one of the DEs blows up. Limiting a team to only running to one side of the field is huge and Gary allowed that. That didn't show up on the stat sheet or make for big highlights though.

He’s an OT not a DT....

01/07/2019 - 6:38pm I'm sure I'll get negged for…

I'm sure I'll get negged for this but does osu really give a coach a good shot at competing for a national championship? They've missed the playoffs the last 2 years and the year before that they made it and got spanked. And they no longer have the coach that took them there and instead have a rookie head coach. I know everyone is anti Harbaugh right now but looking I'm not sure osu is in a much better spot than UM going into next season.

12/29/2018 - 3:39pm The offensive philosophy is…

The offensive philosophy is the problem. We’ve seen them run creative plays they just aren’t run with any consistency or sense of cohesion. They happen sporadically and often when the team is already in a big hole. The question is can Harbaugh find someone to help him run the plays he wants with better strategy.

12/29/2018 - 3:30pm He doesn’t get a pass for…

He doesn’t get a pass for osu but he does for this game. 14 of the points the D gave up were on bust by backups along with plenty of other big plays that lead to points like the deep pass on the long 3rd down in the 4th. That’ll happen when you lose 2 first round picks.

12/04/2018 - 3:52pm I honestly wonder if he’s…

I honestly wonder if he’s looking pissed today because he thought the win over UM and B1G championship would make everything better but the board wasn’t having it.

12/04/2018 - 8:28am This. UM never beat him but…

This. UM never beat him but he definitely underachievered. I think as ppl in Columbus get more distance from his tenure they’ll start to say the same. Especially if his replacement isn’t good. Then they’ll start to realize the opportunities they missed the past few years.

11/29/2018 - 3:54pm I concur. I think the O is…

I concur. I think the O is good enough to win games and even games against osu. But if I was a top WR or QB recruit I would be concerned Um's O doesn't feature me enough. If Harbaugh isn't going to feature WRs and a passing game with the WR class he got 2 years ago I'd be skeptical he ever would and that would make me lean towards other schools.

I hope they find someone who can help with in game play calling because that seems to be where the problem is. It seems like the plays are in the O playbook. We saw slants, we saw Evans line up outside, we saw creative short passes, we saw RPOs. Problem is they would happen infrequently during games.

11/26/2018 - 4:43pm So much this. Going in to…

So much this. Going in to the season the talk was Haskins was going to be better than Barrett and after the first few games osu looked like a top 2-3 team especially on offense. And then they started looking disorganized and Purdue happened. But the team that was preseason top 3 was still there. They just didn’t turn it on until the last weekend. What will be interesting is if despite thrashing UM osu missea out on the playoff because of the L to Purdue and how they looked for most of the season.

I think Haskins is one of the best pocket passers there has been in cfb for a while. When you have a qb like that in an offense like osu they’re hard to stop. This is true in the NFL too. Osu offense this year was probably as good as their NC winning one with Elliott. Martell doesn’t seem to be the same type of player though so I wouldn’t expect their offense to look this good after Haskins is gone.

11/26/2018 - 11:26am The personnel usage on both…

The personnel usage on both sides of the ball was one of the most inexplicable parts of the game. The other was the lack of adjustments or creativity. If they want to run the O they’ve been running at least do it with your best players.

11/24/2018 - 4:13pm Agree with the play calling…

Agree with the play calling. Was not what it had been the past 3 years which was shocking. But not as schooling as how much the D got owned. Injuries in the second half contributed but the D can’t give up 62 points. If the D gets more than 1 stop the O may have done enough.

11/24/2018 - 3:39pm Playing hasn’t been what’s…

Play calling hasn’t been what’s it was the past few years but a big part of the problem today has been execution. Gentry has been bad and injuries have forced backups in and their execution has been poor.

11/24/2018 - 2:00pm They’ve been a second half…

They’ve been a second half team so we’ll see what adjustments they make. I’m surprised by the O though. The play calls haven’t been bad but they haven’t been as creative as they’ve been in previous games v osu.

11/04/2018 - 7:06am As much as I’d like osu to…

As much as I’d like osu to lose next week msu’s defense does not match up well against osu’s offense. Hope for more Dantonyee weather wizardary. If not msu’s pass D is gonna get torched.

11/03/2018 - 7:09pm Defense allowed as many…

Defense allowed as many points as they scored. Not a bad day.

11/03/2018 - 6:43pm Does UM have more…

Does UM have more interception yards than psu has receiving yards??

11/03/2018 - 6:28pm When most teams embarrass…

When most teams embarrass their opponents they run the score up. Michigan shuts you down defensively and it’s glorious. Can we call it a “Don Brown” when the D forces more punts than first downs they allow?

11/03/2018 - 4:06pm That's the second time he's…

That's the second time he's run an option with the fullback. Who else does that??? Incredible.

10/30/2018 - 1:14pm And he’s done that 2/4 years…

And he’s done that 2/4 years. It’s not a fluke. Ppl just don’t want to acknowledge 2016. Didn’t they go into the bowl season ranked higher than PSU that year too? Or was that the week before the Big10 championship?

As long as he closes out the season with no more than 1 conference loss he will have had 3 10 win seasons and the one season he didn’t he was on his 2 or 3 QB most of the season and had one of the youngest teams in the country.

10/30/2018 - 1:09pm The year osu won they were…

The year osu won they were more like what UM runs this year than Meyer’s typical spread. Cardale wasn’t a runner and Elliot was a back that would fit nicely into Harbaugh’s system. And that team would’ve been in the playoff a second year if it wasn’t for Dantonyee’s weather voodoo

10/25/2018 - 11:17am This.

PSU has not been…

This.

PSU has not been impressive all season. They’re S&P numbers were propped up by App State and ppl put a lot of stock in their loss to osu. Since losing to osu psu lost to msu and osu hasn’t looked all that good. And Harbaugh has only lost to psu and Franklin once. I was far more worried about last weekend than I am psu. Their offense is one dimensional which is a recipe for disaster against Brown and this D and they have 2 weeks to prepare. My feeling was that if UM made it to the bye with one loss than the rest of the season would be about beating osu and not beating themselves.

10/25/2018 - 8:23am Harbaugh is 2-1 vs Franklin…

Harbaugh is 2-1 vs Franklin and PSU....I do not get the take that PSU is some crazy hurdle for him. Msu sure cus he was 1-2 and obviously osu but PSU??? Parker isn’t the only one with this take either.

PSU at 8 is ridiculous.

ND should be in the top 3. They have more quality wins than osu or Clemson

Wisconsin was already behind UM...no way they jump them after both teams won and they struggled against a team UM blew out.

10/02/2018 - 2:57pm This.

I didn’t want either…

This.

I didn’t want either team to win Saturday but after 3.75 quarters of osu looking beatable I was fine with psu losing. Osu isn’t going anywhere. But if UM beats Franklin this year I believe more ppl will acknowledge Franklin’s record against top teams and UM may win some recruiting battles with them.

At least when UM lost to MSU last year they were on 2nd/3rd QB....

10/02/2018 - 2:12pm Well we have 3 season since…

Well we have 3 season since Harbaugh got to UM

2015 they were undefeated and looked like a good team.

2016 they didn’t look like a good team and weren’t.

2017 they didn’t look like a good team and weren’t. UM was simply worse.

In none of those years did MSU look really bad before playing us then look good while playing us.

10/02/2018 - 11:45am Really should ask again in 2…

Really should ask again in 2 weeks. If they beat Wisconsin at home then the rest of the games will be 5 or higher. Osu 5 MSU 8 and psu 7. If we lose to Wisconsin then osu 5 msu 6 and psu 6. I think UMs linebackers are better than psu or osu this year so we should be able to defend McSorley better than osu and Haskins screen game better than psu. Questions for psu and osu will be on offense

Ppl who are picking MSU any lower than 6 are stuck in the BPONE. While that team always gets up for the game they haven’t looked good this year. UM beat them handily is 16 and last year they were both bad teams. They didn’t up their game to play is last season UM was not a good team and the game was in terrible conditions. I’m not worried about a good Harbaugh team against a mediocre MSU.

It was in the preview article so ppl may have missed it but the brief FFF section on ND shows them having top 250 recruits at every o-line position and 2 of them were also dangermen. Doubt NE or any team other than osu and Wisconsin have lines that good.

Guy right above you has you covered.

09/02/2018 - 6:16pm Offense had 3 possessions in…

Offense had 3 possessions in the first half.

The offense is slow by design. It’s meant to grind out long drives. Those are great when the offense scores consistently and your defense gets stops. Even better when your defense gets quick stops cus the offense can tire out the other team and wear them down faster.

Last year the defense prevented long drives but the offense scored rarely. Last night the defense gave up a quick drive followed a 3 minute drive then a 7 minute drive all ending in a TD. The offense got the ball for the second time down 14 and drove from their own 12 to NDs 25. Good drive. Sacks pushes us out of field goal range. Offense then drives into the red zone but has to settle for 3. They don’t get the ball again till the 3rd where they drive into field goal range but the holder botched the snap.* The offense did what it was designed to do in the first half. It showed some issues but outside of OT those issues looked like game 1 issues possibly amplified by being on the road.

Asking the offense in game 1 to completely break design and be faster than it’s meant to wouldn’t have made sense when they were breaking in some new starters on the road. Makes sense to do your stuff so you can develop for later. Seems like what coach did.

The defense let the team down early. The DB/LBs had some bad breaks but should be fine. The D line though was underwhelming especially in the middle. If the DTs are going to be behind schedule the team could be in trouble. The D is susceptible to big plays if they can’t get pressure. Hurst got a lot of pressure on his own and cleaned up when Chase/Gary collapsed the pocket. The DTs did not do that at all and even Mo struggled to do that against running QBs. They have to be better. Big holes like the one last night will always be a problem because the offense is slow by design.

All expectations for this year were based on little to no drop off from the D. Even if the offense makes a big leap forward it isn’t meant to score quickly and get in a track race with other offense unless it’s running near perfectly. A defense that takes a big step back at DT is gonna make them get in track races against good enough offenses. But after last night not sure which teams on our schedule have good enough offenses outside of osu and uw.

Even though Shea looks good I don’t think he’ll be ready for the NFL at the end of the year. That’s probably a good thing for next year.

*The drive was started on a deep ball connection that could’ve been better (open for a TD if Nico doesn’t have to dive) and likely will get better as the 2 work on timing. Offense should end up pretty good. I think they play a young guy at LT and get them eased in over the next few weeks.

09/01/2018 - 8:49pm If this offense was paired…

If this offense was paired with last years defense we’d be ok. This years defense doesn’t look like last years though

08/19/2018 - 1:21pm Defense was fine both those…

Defense was fine both those games. People forget osu had 5 yards at the end of the 1st quarter and that wasn’t because we had long offensive possessions. Question this year is how good the offense will be.

08/07/2018 - 2:07pm Last year's record is…

Last year's record is definitely a part of these rankings. At the beginning of last year with basically the same team we were 12th. We've added a high touted QB and all of the first year players/starters we had now have another year of experience. Given Harbaugh's track record last year is an anomaly so people should be expecting a season that looks more like 2016 than 2017. Its fascinating how much people are running with the negative view of Harbaugh and I wonder where the team would be ranked had they beaten SC.

I personally think were going to beat ND handily and then people will vault us into the top 10.

06/22/2018 - 11:48am Came to see if a certain…

Came to see if a certain someone had come to complain. Not sure if I'm happy or disappointed they haven't...

05/29/2018 - 2:04pm We played the bascially the

We played the bascially the same schedule in conference in 2016 and only lost to osu. MSU and UW will probably be as good as they were that year while PSU should be better. Osu likely won't be better than they were that year and could be slightly worse since their QB is mostly an unknown.

05/24/2018 - 9:31pm Shae doesn’t need to be

Shae doesn’t need to be great. The team around the QB will be as good the 2016 team so if Shae is as good as 2016 Speight the floor should be 9 not counting the bowl game. Shae being great would mean this team should finish no lower than 5 like the Athlon poll. The 2016 team played the same home/away schedule against the other top teams in the conference. The only difference is ND.
